With the shift of governmental organization in Keeliai, and the designation of the Guilds, the Foreigners have been tasked with setting up an internal structure for their guild.

They have been informed that they have complete freedom to organize this Guild as they see fit, whether that means they have a group leadership (several people in charge), a hierarchy based leadership (one or two people in charge, then their subordinates, then the next level of subordinates, etc) or to entirely do away with a formal leadership setup at all and have all guild members carry the same authority level. Or any combination or alternative of those options!

The Council's decree has assured the Foreigners complete autonomy in governing themselves within the framework of their Guild, with these core stipulations... )

The first Courtyard meeting will take place in May, in order to establish the list of High Crimes (things like murder, etc) which require sentencing by agreement of all the Guilds; the other guilds will expect the Foreigners Guild's leadership and representative structure to be in place by that time, which can then be made official.

Player Discussion

This post is for the OOC plotting of the Foreigners Guild getting set up. This is an entirely player-controlled process -- the mods are NOT involved in the end result of how this plays out. So it's important that everyone has a chance to participate in the process, as the decisions of the Guild's setup will be used to develop plots and events in the future!

Here are some some things for your consideration, although this is not an exhaustive list, simply suggestions:

- Is there going to be a defined leadership within the Foreigners Guild, and if so, who are they?
- What are their levels of authority, within the Guild's structure and in relation to the rest of the city and other guilds?
- Are these the same individuals for the spokespeople for Courtyard participation?
- How will the Guild handle treatment of Foreigners that are part of their guild?
- How will the Guild handle the treatment of those who perpetrate crimes against Foreigners?

And other input that may arise through this discussion post!

NOTE: This post is for the OOC/players side of this process! You don't need to justify your character's thoughts for your suggestions, as an IC log will be made once this discussion has been established, where characters themselves can also go through their version. LANDFALL - IOA ELANAG

The first thing that people will notice during the second week of the month is the sensation of slowing, as if Tu Vishan's movements have become beleaguered. It's strange to think that one can feel the movements of continent-sized turtle, but it's more the absence of motion that is detectable.

And then, for the next several nights, during their dreams (or whatever their respective restful periods entail) Foreigners will see the image of a young man in his late teens. It's the same person as the young boy that has appeared to many of them before, albeit a little more grown now. His appearance is slightly different for everyone, but he'll appear fairly handsome based on whatever the observer's individual standards are. This is Tu Vishan, the way he appears to the Foreigners in a comprehensible form, and he'll introduce himself as Asti if this is the first vision from him a Foreigner is receiving.

"I'm sorry if I've worried you," he'll say, appearing genuinely contrite. "I'm not feeling back to my normal self yet. I'm going to stop for a rest soon. It's nothing to be concerned about."

Beyond this explanation, he doesn't offer much in the way of conversation regardless of what he is asked, beyond a repeated reassurance that nothing is wrong, he's simply tired and stopping for a rest.

The slowing sensation will continue, until there's less swimming and more drifting happening -- controlled, at least, not the motionless way it was when Tu Vishan was absent of himself. Around the middle of the month, a landmass is sighted ahead, and on the morning of October 20th, the turtle's great bulk comes to a gentle rest against the shoreline on a wide, flat and stony beach.

OOC Notes: So here's the official kickoff post for the Ioa Elanag landfall! This is a continent that has never been explored in-game, so it'll be a brand new adventure for everyone.

As you can see, the past few months have been very busy for our characters, but now the masterminds behind the current chaos need some advice. From my understanding, we are considering doing an overall announcement admitting that Milyn is alive. Now, this could have some crazy consequences ICly, so we would like to know your thoughts on the matter.

As a side note, could everyone checking in to the Police force post below confirming? I am going to create a page for it and I want to get everyone on it who is volunteering.

So by mod request I've been asked to put up a plot discussion post regarding the latest developments regarding the events surrounding Milyn, Meisheng, and so on.

So basically there's a lot of people doing their own thing ICly with pretty much the same intention in mind. But none of them are really telling anybody anything either. Sooo since the mods don't want plot things given out on a first come first serve basis we've been asked to coordinate?

LANDFALL - TAVIMBI

Greetings, chelonauts! This month we're going to have the first unexplored continental landfall for the new plot. This event takes place on the continent of Tavimbi, home to several different races - all with technological bents, to various degrees.

The turtle move will go smoothly for the first five days, bolstered by a brisk set of winds and a favourable tide, and everyone's combined efforts will allow Tu Vishan to be moved approximately north-north east by several hundred leagues, no small feat given his continental size. Everything seems to be going smoothly!

OOC NOTE:

The turtle move is being divided into two parts, the first taking place in late November with the above mentioned effects to be ongoing throughout the month of December, and the remaining move distance to be completely in early January, which will lead into the landfall event proper.

The reasoning for the break between the two pieces is otherwise, we would have a full scale landfall event during the winter holidays, when people have RL commitments and school and a hundred other offline things, and nobody wants that. The above noted plot things can be loosely played out at people's leisure over December, without there being a thing that needs a lot of IC commitment to keep up with.

This post is a good place for plotting what your characters will be getting up to during the event!

Hello, chelonauts! This post is a collection of info/ooc sign up for Operation: Move the Turtle.

The mods have set the ultimate landing location for the turtle at Tavimbi, which they have deemed as a mountainous land yet unexplored by kedan. (No kedan, in other words, remembers ever having landed there; they just know that it is mountainous.) ICly, the choice to go in this direction will be made by convenience -- the fact that it would be easier to work with the ocean currents already flowing in this direction rather than against them, and the promise of possible undersea mountain ranges that would be good for parking a very large turtle bus.

There's still time to tag in to the ic log, but under the cut is what I've collected so far that characters plan to do. Please feel free to use this list to coordinate with others for ic shenanigans! I'll be putting up an ic catch-all log for that soon.

If your character wasn't able to make the meeting, these jobs/needs would have been publicized in one way, shape, or form, so please let me know what your character would volunteer to do. All roles can (and ideally should) have multiple people, so also feel free to sign up for more than one as long as it wouldn't mean your character would be needed in two places at the same time.

Dear chelonauts: I come to you to brainstorm.

I have had a plot approved by the mods to keep the turtle from sinking. The idea came up here in conversation between Klaus and Lapis: The turtle will be moved to shallow water to prevent him from sinking further and to buy time to figure out how to wake him up.

What does this mean?

I want this to be a game-wide project. Lapis is insanely strong; in her own canon she could pull all the water in the oceans into a pillar extending out of the atmosphere and still have enough energy to fight off seven people at once . . . while her gem was cracked. Asti, though, is his own continent, and she has limits. Moving him in a process that would likely take at least several days will take the concerted effort of as many people as possible. I want everybody in here. I want people using magic; I want people using technology. I want characters figuring out how to make this work.

I want all the people. All the things.

Yes. That means I want you. I want you to think how your character could possibly contribute to this effort. I want you to think out of the box. We need characters who can read the stars, who can plot maps, who are familiar with ocean currents, who have wind and water and earth abilities and super strength. Characters willing to help steer and chart and plan and make this massive effort a success. Characters willing to talk the kedan (and the npcs!) into helping. Characters able to find underwater mountain ranges and ways to moor a turtle-continent to keep him from moving. Ten to one your character can contribute somehow. Even if it's "small," it means something to the larger whole.

I have some challenges that I'm needing help with in making this work effectively. I will be organizing this oocly. Icly, however, though Lapis is pushing for this, she is not likely one to lead. She is fairly traumatized by her own canon and still deciding if people on the turtle are "good." She has enlisted Klaus' help, and he will be an intermediary of sorts, helping to run an initial meeting about this and gather characters' thoughts/pledges to assist. That doesn't help icly to run day-to-day operations. She and Klaus can oversee things and pass down ideas or suggestions, but I don't see that as being too interesting for you guys to play out. I'm thinking something more like once we find some commonality between ideas, we divide people into teams that end up working together on one part of the project, with someone leading, motivating, and reporting back to Lapis and Klaus. I am, however, very open to other suggestions!

So to sum up, I need help in this ooc post with two things:

1. What could your character do to help move the turtle?
2. How could the process of executing the plan to move be most effectively organized icly?

Because Zatanna had so much help her magical Tu Vishan-seeking venture at the turtle's head, they were able to break through the barrier surrounding Asti's essence!

Zatanna received a vision, and other participating characters also received different visions. (These were PM'd to the participating character's accounts already.)

As a result of this, it is irrefutably confirmed that Tu Vishan is alive, although his essence is not whole, but fragmented.

As a bonus side effect of breaking through the sealing barrier, everyone's ability levels (magic, meta, physical or Foreigner tech) all over Keeliai will gain a permanent power boost of around 10% extra.

 Our awesome mods have recently given me permission to run a small player plot thingie that will result in a bit more metaplot info, and I wanted to extend the opportunity to any and all magic user character out there.

This evening, Zatanna will be making an IC post looking for help with a spell.  A big, big spell.  The idea is to combine different powers together in a magic circle to attempt to reach out and figure if Asti is being kept under some sort of magic coma or otherwise affected in such a way that he is unable to escape.  Now, the main focus WILL just be identification, not necessarily immediate rescue, and I've been told that once the spell is activated, metaplot info will be revealed.

Once the IC establishment of who wants in has been made, later in the week, I'll be posting the log.  I'm thinking three separate parts: First, an open mingle pre-spell where characters can discuss their respective abilities.  Second, the actual casting.  And Third, an aftermath section where they can discuss what they just felt/heard/saw/etc.

The final log in the Malicant era has been posted! Malicant has been defeated, but characters are trapped in the Dreaming in the immediate aftermath. However, Evastelei is honouring the wishes of the Foreigners, and sending those home who wish to depart Tu Vishan, now that their duty as charged by Eshai has been completed.

This log will run for one week, when an awakening log will be going up to kick off the new metaplot (probably Saturday, but Sunday at the latest). It will be accompanied by a lengthy State of the Shell post, which will give you the SparkNotes version of all the important things that you'll need to know ICly and OOCly.

During this time, the mods will be changing over the core posts to reflect the background for this new game phase. Due to the scale of the changes being put into play (no spoilers!), this is going to be a fairly intensive process for which, along with general RL time crunches (omg school exams ;~;) we appreciate your patience during it.

Please be aware that from now until the awakening log is posted, there is no posting access to the Network comm, nor can any new logs be started for other locations.

Thanks to the diligent investigation by multiple characters, some key points about the boss battle are now known! Here's a quick breakdown of them:

  1. Malicant will need to be faced below the shell, entered via Dreaming.
    Going below the shell on the Life Plane will result in them getting brainfried! But the Dreaming doesn't have the same parameters, so characters won't have the same reactions (you know, like bleeding from orifices). Characters will have to find a suitable spot to get a large amount of people below the surface and enter through a Dreaming portal. Key points will be the psychic shielding to get the portals set up, the diorama to find an optimal place to do so, and the experiences of those who've already been below the shell who will know what to expect.

  2. The Dreaming will need to be manipulated to put them on even terms with Malicant.
    Since the Dreaming is a plane of manipulated willpower, characters will not be limited to their physical capabilities in a head to head battle with the Big Bad. Malicant's power is subversive, and so characters will need to employ the same tactics. Increased sensitivity to the Dreaming will be achieved through an injection of refined Gha'nal venom, supplied by Milyn and practical tips by those who have used this method before. Every character will have the chance to craft themselves the best scenario in which to meet Malicant.

  3. The boons provided by "Asti" may be more hindrance than help.
    Confronted on his home turf, Malicant will be pulling out all the stops to control the Foreigners. Those who are most closely linked to him, by use of the boons and possibly other "gifts" he's dispensed in his time posing as Tu Vishan, will be coming into play... and not for the better. Eva will be able to provide more information on this topic, though she still lacks access to her magic. Key points of this will be contact with Eva and those who have been making use of the gifts.

    ETA2: The exact level of control these things (boon, taint, etc) on each character is left to player discretion. It will be entirely possible to start out controlled and then break that influence during the fight, making them able to switch sides and help with others who are still Mali-puppeted. Only those with no external influence will start out unhindered by Malicant's effects.

  4. There is a Vilii stone that will be the key.
    Hidden below the shell, this stone was created from Malicant's inception eons ago. In the visions experienced by some characters, and with that vision shared to everyone because of the hatchling's telepathic link, it seems that this stone had the ability to "shatter" Malicant. Characters will need to find it and determine the best way of making sure everyone can have access. Key points will be those who investigated the Vilii on previous missions or who spoke to any of the Realm Watcher NPCs in Valishaera.

There will be a collective event log for all these things going up in the next day or so (once everyone's had a chance to organize) that will feature these sections in sub headers, and then a final log will go up at a later date which will be the actual face off against Malicant. Plotting can be done on this post.

As we have a hard plot end deadline of Nov 30th, so I'd like to have the Malicant log posted AROUND the ~15th of the month at the latest, two give people a full two weeks max to thread out the end battle.

Malicant has made his move and it's as devastating as people have feared. The Emperor has been killed by an unknown person or persons, and five of the turtle hatchlings have been brutally murdered. By Malicant's own words, it's likely that the Foreigners are partially responsible for both.

In this post is a status update on the key figures and state of the city.

NPCs
EVANDAU: The latest Emperor has, unfortunately, met his untimely demise. As far as anyone knows, there is no direct descendant or appointed successor to the position. There will be a memorial held for the Alderwood Emperor in the near future.
MILYN: The Cherrywood Healer has taken the Emperor's body into her care and will begin funerary preparations at her clinic in the Water Sector, which has posted guards to prevent any from entering without permission.
CELAUNN: Those most attentive to the whereabouts of key figures in Keeliai may have noticed Celaunn’s decreased presence in the last week, disappearing entirely three days prior. Hints as to her whereabouts may be found in-character.
EVASTELEI: Eva has been missing since the strange nullification that removed everyone's abilities. The two kedan she has spent most of her time working with in recent months have also mysteriously become absent. Rumor is that she may have fled in a fugue state. Hints as to their whereabouts may be found in-character.

Powers
Powers have been fully and completely restored to all characters, and those who had gained them temporarily will lose them again. Everything has gone back to normal, save for the rest of the chaos.

Malicant & The Palace
Malicant’s presence continues to cast shadows of doubt and chaos in Keeliai. One thing is clear: Evandau was not the villain that recent accusations made him out to be. The Palace is now fully accessible to all residents, kedan and foreigner alike, though evidence of Malicant’s presence still lingers in blood, darkness, and other gruesome remains.

A log will be posted within the week detailing The Palace’s new conditions and allowing characters to explore.

Turtle Hatchlings
Five of the fifteen original Turtle Hatchlings were brutally murdered by Malicant on the steps of The Palace. All five had only a single parent remaining, making them the most vulnerable of the group. (PMs were sent to those parents detailing their Hatchling’s last moments.) The remaining ten turtles are struggling to come to terms with the death of their brethren and now, more than ever, need parents to watch out for and take care of them; a total of 8 parents are needed at present.

The Kedan
Upon discovering that they have lost a second Emperor within a year, the kedan reaction is markedly different. Where Eshai's death was met with surprised sorrow and uncertainty, Evandau's demise sparks violence and panic in the streets and homes. There will be rioting and paranoia, particularly against the Foreigners -- after all, Malicant is blaming them directly and who else could be deemed responsible for suddenly isolating the Emperor and allowing his death?

1. a situation that occurs in chess and other games of strategy where a player is forced play instead of pass the turn
2. to make a choice between two moves, both of which which will knowingly damage your position

This is the first part of a two-part event, starting on September 21st and going through until September 27th. The second part of this event will be revealed on September 28th.

As some Foreigners continue to be affected by the cultists' poison, the symptoms of which might even be steadily growing worse, other characters are going to be experiencing something very different, and it has nothing to do with the electrical blackouts which accompanied the heat wave.

Abilities Go Haywire For Everyone - September 21-25

Starting on Sept 21st and continuing through the 25th, the Foreigners' magical abilities will be unstable and unpredictable to the point of being dangerous. Earlier in the week, this instability will be less severe, more of a nuisance than actively detrimental. As the week goes on, however, the instability will grow. Fluctuations in power level might allow some characters to feel normal one minute, overly powerful the next, and barely functioning only a minute later, ultimately leaving them feeling mentally or physically exhausted and weak; other characters might try to use their powers and achieve results very different from what they expect. The fluctuation cycles could repeat themselves anywhere from once to dozens of times during the week, or only cycle once at all, whereas unintended side effects of spells or magic can last the entirety of the five days.

The effects will vary as widely as the characters' abilities do, but one thing is clear – any Foreigner who possesses magical ability will suddenly have a very, very hard time controlling or harnessing that ability. Even those Foreigners without magical ability are getting a taste of this, as minor forms of unpredictable abilities are transferring temporarily over to them. Are they jealous of a friend's magic? Congratulations, they now have a little of it!... with frankly disastrous effects. We want every player to enjoy this event, so be creative with how your character is affected, from fully life ruining to only minorly worrisome!

Please note that Asti's boons, given to the hatchlings' foster parents during the midsummer festival in exchange for looking after the baby turtles, will not be affected during the duration of this event; they will function as normal.

Abilities Are Nullified - September 26-27

Characters may or may not discover ways to live with the fluctuations and may even have grown accustomed to them. However, from September 25-27, all the Foreigners' magical abilities will be completely dead. Characters will be utterly unable to use them; they will feel cut off from their source, not have the energy or mental focus for them, etc. Any Foreigner ability fueled by or involving magic will be affected by this – only powers which characters absolutely need in order to survive will still work. Think of it as being caught in Evandau's nullification field except expanded to include the entire turtle. After the events of the last five days, some characters might even consider this a blessing.

As mentioned above, Asti's Boons will not be affected during the duration of this event.

Aloha turtle goers! Shane here with offerings of plot and hopefully other good things.

So Hawke has had just about enough of the speculations and all the hush hush circulating around the city. Now it's time for action, and more importantly, answers! In his infinite wisdom, he thinks the best way to go about this is to just get in the man's face and confront him to see just whose side he's on. Subtlety is not his forte folks. He never put that many point into that specialization.

But he's not doing this alone! At least, he does't want to do it alone. Backup is always good to have when you're doing something crazy. The log will take place this weekend, August 16-17. On Friday I will put up a forward dated post with Hawke that will get everything started. That way there will be time for so IC discussion before things kick off.

Anyone and everyone is free to get involved! The more the merrier I say!

So after some planning, Evandau will be lured to Anton's Midnight Hotel to act as sort of a neutral ground. Once there the characters will attempt to have a "talk" with the Emperor. Should things devolve into violence or Evandau just leave without discussion, things will be taken to the streets where Septimus will publicly demand he step down from his position. Should he refuse, well, force is always an option.

In the natural rhythms of arrivals and departures from Tu Vishan, some of the baby turtles recovered from Sinbrilee are now missing some of their stand-in mamas and papas. Having grown used to the reassurance of their caretakers, the hatchlings will once again seek out a psychic connection among the Foreigners.

From the original event post:
The eggs will 'resonate' when they are near their caretaker and the caretaker will feel compelled to seek it out. When they are near, the shell will become luminous and a peaceful feeling will come over those characters specifically chosen by their turtle [...] The turtles will learn very quickly, and soon their vocabularies will be more complex, enough to hold a complete conversation with, albeit telepathically. The babies will be very curious and full of questions, the most common one being 'why?' or 'what?' as they learn. They will be able to grasp theories of complex mathematics and physics without difficulty, and will seem to have an innate understanding of most things upon the simplest explanation.

Evandau is coming clean about a big reveal regarding character's souls and the way they are currently being anchored to the Life plane and to Keeliai, which is going to majorly affect them going forward. This is based on the quad housing option that won in the Suite Change Poll where further information on the new housing is given.

Here are the key points:
The glowing lanterns are actually soul vessels??
Turns out that Eshai was using character's souls in a weird art-deco design motif around the Palace! Eva has removed the souls from the lanterns using her magic and reinstalled them in new lanterns, which look something like this and will be hanging them in the character's new housings where they can't be removed from, at least not for the time being.

Speaking of that new housing...
Evandau was planning on upgrading everyone's housing to group penthouses before, but Malicant's palace party crash sped up his timetable. These new digs have magic protections included in their making to keep Mally from creeping on people while they're sleeping and such. She's using something like magical feng shui to help assign people to these new addresses, which accounts for a lot of the randomized placements. Eva will be sending each character a private message with a time and address to meet her; each of their housemates will have been given the same times, so they should all meet around the same time. These new housings are approximately 15-20% larger overall than their previous living spaces, while the level of relative wealth between all the Sectors remains unchanged and equal. (In other words, no one got crappy accommodations while others got swanky ones!)

For characters who are frequent houseguests:
The soul lanterns are constantly "charged" by the presence of the physical vessel near them. Since they can't be removed from the new housing (yet), people will have to spend time there to keep the bond strong. People will be able to spend two days away from their lanterns before feeling any negative effects. On the third day they will feel lethargic and disoriented, on the fourth day they will experience flashes of the Death plane whenever they close their eyes. If they have not returned to a close proximity to their soul lantern by the end of the fifth day, their soul will detach from their bodies and be fair game for Malicant. Reversing the effects takes approximately the same amount of time (3-5 days, depending on the severity). All of this will be covered in Eva's explanation to the characters (though the actual time frames have to be discovered ICly) while she's at their buildings in the log.
