Sometimes their presence is felt in the growing urge to give into one's darker instincts, especially in such a foreign place... Illicit substances, anyone? Every city has its vices, and Keeliai is no different. Perhaps you actively sought it out, or perhaps an opportunistic dealer saw you as a potential customer needing a free sample, but you're now in possession of a packet of Lucid, an emotion-enhancing drug. Tu Vishan's latest landfall stop has brought an unwelcome problem to its residents: enormous, toothy creatures who look more like pterosaurs than most people are comfortable with! With a twenty-foot wingspan, these aren't exactly harmless local wildlife, and they have a nasty habit of swooping down on targets both Foreigner and kedan! How are you going to fend them off, or help someone who might have been injured by the latest dive bombing?? WILDCARD! Go nuts. Suddenly your character is fighting dragons! Good God, they've found the Millennium Falcon drifting in the ocean! Do you really feel the need to polish every paving stone in the Earth Sector? Anything goes!

[She was used to haggling. It was how she had come of age, bartering and attempting to gain a fair price for the things she scavenged. The marketplace here was no different than the one on Jakku in the end. Everyone had a price and Rey was currently attempting to figure out the cost of new goggles.]

You will accept my gratitude in exchange for the goggles.

[Convincing the guard had been easy enough. She expected it would work here as well.

When it didn't, Rey was left staring in surprise.]

I thought you would show yourself eventually.

[Rey smiled as she came across BB-8. The droid was one of her friends and she had just been wishing to see him again. She crouched down to examine the little droid and after seeing that he was just fine she rose up to walk. BB-8 followed, beeping and clicking in response and Rey laughed.]

Wherever we are, BB-8, you'll need to keep up. Stay close.

[Rey and BB-8 can be found and stopped for as long as he's able to roll around behind her before vanishing.]

[It was dusk and out of the darkness Rey came running. One of the large creatures she had never seen before was close on her heels. She ran until she spotted a shopkeeper's broom sitting out in the marketplace and she grabbed hold of it. The end with the bristles was easy to break off but it caused the shopkeeper to yell louder at her. She cast the shopkeeper a look that demanded silence before running off with the broken broom toward the creature.

She wasn't someone who waited for others to defend her. She knew she had to defend herself and the people here. So she didn't hesitate to leap into action, attempting to frighten the bothersome creature away with several smacks and prods with the broom stick.

It was unfortunate that someone happened to get in the way in the scuffle and she hit them with the stick. She spun around to face them with her eyes blazing.]

You need to go. Now!

I have never seen a robot like that before. It's not even useful. What does it do?

[ Yeah, he's standing and staring and head tilting like a normal person would. Even if he looks like that guy who, you know, did all those terrible things to the galaxy. At least he doesn't have the scar? ]

Or is it just some kind of... pet?

[It's a good thing that she doesn't have her weapon on her, because her first instinct is to lash out and try and hit him away before he can do anything to either her or BB-8.]

[Her eyes narrow when she realizes he's not being menacing or evil, he's just standing there and talking. This could be a case of forgotten identity or identical appearances. It's probably a good idea to relax and not draw attention. She looks down to BB-8 and shrugs when the droid beeps in offense.]

BB-8 is a droid, not a pet. And says that usefulness is only recognized by useful people.

[BB-8 is a sassy droid and Rey makes no apologies for it. She doesn't laugh at it at least. That would be rude.]

[ Junior sees that flash, takes an instinctive step back. He's highly nonconfrontational and that reaction is just not what he's expecting. When she backs off, he lets himself relax. ]

A droid? Like an android? Because that's not an android.

[ That remark just gets a scowl. He can't tell if the thing said that or if she's messing with him, but still. ]

That is a self-propelled ball. Does it make drinks?

[Can BB-8 make drinks? Rey glances down at her little friend with a questioning look. BB-8 spins his dome and makes noises of annoyance.]

He might, once he retires from the resistance.

[Rey answers with laughter but covers her mouth with a hand so BB-8 may not be able to see from the low angle he's sitting at. The droid does see and extends a part that's meant to zap and shock but Rey holds out a hand and gives a warning look. There's more clicks and a whistle before BB-8 turns and rolls off.]

I think you've offended him.

He... has feelings? That's crazy.

[ Not explicitly a denial, but it sounds like an acutely odd idea to Junior. Where he's from, technology just doesn't go in that direction nor is it advanced enough to try. ]

Oh, uh, Junior. [ He sticks a hand out. Now is the time to introduce oneself, right? Totally. ]

"You'll find that not everyone is susceptible to such influence," came a voice from somewhere behind Rey.

The owner of the voice was a robed man with a beard, watching her with blue eyes and an amused smile on his face. He had been watching her. Obi-Wan could sense that the Force was strong with this girl, and had subtly followed her through the market. Thus what she had tried to do certainly didn't escape his notice.

"I was only making a suggestion." Rey's response was curt as she tried to not look like she was doing anything out of the ordinary. Her eyes cast downward briefly though, showing her guilt.

She recognized the sort of robes he was wearing but told herself it could have been traditional clothes for the area as well. She didn't want to look foolish so soon after arriving, especially if this man held any position of power here.

"That's how bartering usually is done." She smiled as she spoke because bartering on Jakku typically was her being told what rations her spare parts and finds were worth and her accepting it in order to survive.

"Well, around here, bartering is done with these." Obi-Wan opens his hand to show a few coins, juulan.

"Dishonesty while using the Force, is still dishonesty." And he then turned to the vendor that Rey had been trying to 'barter' with. "Forgive my friend, she's only recently arrived. How much for the... goggles?"

Apparently the vendor knew him, for the Kedan quoted a price that was even lower than what he'd offered Rey. Obi-Wan did make a point of getting to know the locals after all.

Rey's eyes turn downward to look at the coins and she remembers the ones she was given upon arrival. She makes note to use them the next time she needs anything but doesn't acknowledge the issue any further. There's something much more important to focus on.

The fact that she now owes this man something for his assistance, as well as the fact he thinks she's dishonest.

"I'm very many things," she looks up to hear and see the price the Kedan is quoting, hand reaching for the pouch worn at her side to gather her coins. "But never dishonest."

To prove her point, she holds out her coins and offers them to the vendor in exchange for the goggles. She takes her time pulling off her cracked ones and putting on these new ones, pulling them up into place on top of her head. It's only when she's satisfied with the feel of them that she looks over at the man who's helping her.

"You've already offered me assistance, and for that I'm grateful, but I need to ask for one more thing. Tell me what you know about the Force?"

Looking on in silent approval, Obi-Wan watches as she pays for the goggles herself. He certainly has no reason to doubt her integrity any more. He's impressed, and now very curious as well.

"Oh, I know many things about the Force."

And with that he brushes the edge of his cloak aside so that he can return the coins to a pouch on his belt. If she looks quickly enough, Rey might catch sight of a very familiar lightsaber.

"Which leads to the real question here. What is it do you want to know?"

Your companion seems a little shy.

[Anakin missed Artoo and hearing the familiar beeps caused him to stumble upon the two. Though feeling slightly disappointed that this is not the droid he's looking for, a small grin still appears.

He can appreciate someone who doesn't treat a droid like some random garbage or tool. So he steps closer to get a better look.

At the droid. Rey is only a side thought.]

I've never seen one like this. An astromech of some sort, must be a new model.

[BB-8 loudly beeps and chirps in surprise, rolling back just enough that it can't be touched. Protective of her little friend, Rey holds a hand out and gives a stern but friendly look.]

It's a BB unit astromech droid. BB-8. He is little skittish around strangers.

[As if caught doing something he's not supposed to, the electrical limb that BB-8 uses to zap things pauses in its extension then slowly retracts back inside its body.]

Well, BB-8, it's nice to meet you. I have an astromech back home, an R2 unit. He's one of my best friends and has saved me more times than I can remember.

[But he'll keep his space as much as he'd like to get a closer look. Instead he turns to Rey finally giving her his full attention.]

You must be new around here.

I just arrived.

[She looks a little embarrassed by the fact that it's obvious she's just arrived but doesn't give it much thought because he's mentioned something that interests her.]

I know an R2 unit back home too. R2-D2. He was traveling with me before I woke up here.

[She's all smiles as she says it. Excited about getting to talk about her friends that aren't here with her.]

[Kylo is also in the markets, though he's looking for crystals instead of goggles. Not having his lightsaber at his side was starting to bother him and he needed to find a crystal so that he could build a new one to replace the one that was lost and destroyed. He feels a familiar presence in the Force and whips himself around to find the source of it. She was here, that scavenger that ruined everything.

He finds her and stops far enough away to see what she's doing and has to stop himself from laughing. She was using a mind trick on someone. And failing. How Jedi of her. Finally, he walks up, thoroughly amused by her failed attempt to mind trick the shopkeeper into giving her the goggles.]

You'll find that that trick only works on the weak-minded. Stormtroopers are notorious for that, but shopkeepers tend to run the opposite of that.

[His voice makes a chill go down her spine and she freezes. Her look of surprise becomes filled with dread as she slowly turns to face him. She doesn't understand the Force, doesn't know how to use it properly. She's untrained and figuring things out on her own. But she doesn't need to use the Force to know that as much as she fears Kylo Ren being this close to her, she's able to fight him if she needs to.

His tone tells her that he's not looking for a fight but that doesn't stop her from standing up taller and holding her head high. She's not weak, no matter how unskilled she is at getting those goggles.]

Has it ever worked against you?

[Her tone implies that she thinks it has.]

[Starkiller watched with amusement as the young woman tried to Mind Trick her way through the business transaction. Sensing her shock at her lack of success, Starkiller stepped forward, slipping a few coins into the shopkeeper's hand, before waving his hand in front of the man's face.]

You'll forget that you saw us and go about your business.

[Satisfied when the shopkeeper parrots the line robotically, Starkiller turns to the young woman.]

Tricks like that don't work so well when a person first gets here. There's...something about this place that interferes with them, for the first day or two.

[Her surprised look grows more and more shocked with this man's presence.]

Is this a Jedi planet?

[She whispers the words because she's unsure of being in a place like this, where mind tricks are able to be performed by everyone and her inexperience with the Force makes her more vulnerable than ever.]

[He shakes his head. He can sense how strong the girl was in the Force, but nothing about her felt familiar, even with all the time he spent poring over the dossiers of Jedi and suspected Jedi.]

Not exactly, but there's a handful of people here who can use the Force. Whether they're Jedi or not, I couldn't tell you.

[He gestures for the young woman to follow him, as he walks away from the market stall.]

It looked to me like that's not the first time you've tried to do that, but that's the first time it didn't work, yeah? You must not've had much training yet.

[She's really encountering way too many people who can use the Force. It's alarming how it's drawn in to her like she's a magnet for Force trouble.]

I -

[She watches him walk away and follows, needing to get information and have the last word. She doesn't want a Force user to think she's foolish.]

That was my second time trying it. The first worked.

[This time obviously didn't, for the exact reason he's already said. She doesn't feel the need to admit her weakness out loud. Her lack of training is apparent and she knows it.]

[Being hit with a stick was not on Shay Cormac's list of things to do today. The Irishman is sent stumbling back a few steps, before looking up at his attacker, tensing up.

It's when she says he needs to go when his attention snaps in the direction Rey was running. The beast isn't visible, yet, and the sounds are faint, but the man is staring directly at where the creature is coming from.]

Uh.. Are you sure you know what you're doing?

[forcefilled]

[She winces as she realizes she's just hit an innocent bystander but has too much pride to do admit she doesn't have any idea what to do in this situation.]

I wouldn't be trying if I didn't!

[It's as logical of a protest as she can manage at the moment. Adrenaline is making thinking of something better difficult. The sounds of the creature are getting louder and she's against holding hands. Firmly set against it in normal circumstances. This isn't exactly a normal circumstance so she grabs hold of his wrist and takes off running as a way to encourage him to do the same.]

[Rey may notice that there's some sort of device under the thick leather of Shay's coat, and Mr. Cormac, himself, is surprised enough to be pulled along. This kid's pretty strong. Shay's pretty bulky after all.]

[Her tone is impatient but it's only because catching her breath while trying to think and feeling guilty for hitting a bystander is incredibly difficult to do all at once. She drops her hold on his wrist and looks around. The creature is close enough that running isn't going to do them any good.

She has a broom stick. She's going to fight. She turns to face the direction they've run from, taking on a defensive pose. It's good timing, as the creature swoops down into sight.]
