Sometimes their presence is felt in the growing urge to give into one's darker instincts, especially in such a foreign place...

With a twenty-foot wingspan, these aren't exactly harmless local wildlife, and they have a nasty habit of swooping down on targets both Foreigner and kedan! How are you going to fend them off, or help someone who might have been injured by the latest dive bombing??

I have never seen a robot like that before. It's not even useful. What does it do?

[ Yeah, he's standing and staring and head tilting like a normal person would. Even if he looks like that guy who, you know, did all those terrible things to the galaxy. At least he doesn't have the scar? ]

Or is it just some kind of... pet?

[It's a good thing that she doesn't have her weapon on her, because her first instinct is to lash out and try and hit him away before he can do anything to either her or BB-8.]

[Her eyes narrow when she realizes he's not being menacing or evil, he's just standing there and talking. This could be a case of forgotten identity or identical appearances. It's probably a good idea to relax and not draw attention. She looks down to BB-8 and shrugs when the droid beeps in offense.]

BB-8 is a droid, not a pet. And says that usefulness is only recognized by useful people.

[BB-8 is a sassy droid and Rey makes no apologies for it. She doesn't laugh at it at least. That would be rude.]

[ Junior sees that flash, takes an instinctive step back. He's highly nonconfrontational and that reaction is just not what he's expecting. When she backs off, he lets himself relax. ]

A droid? Like an android? Because that's not an android.

[ That remark just gets a scowl. He can't tell if the thing said that or if she's messing with him, but still. ]

That is a self-propelled ball. Does it make drinks?

[Can BB-8 make drinks? Rey glances down at her little friend with a questioning look. BB-8 spins his dome and makes noises of annoyance.]

He might, once he retires from the resistance.

[Rey answers with laughter but covers her mouth with a hand so BB-8 may not be able to see from the low angle he's sitting at. The droid does see and extends a part that's meant to zap and shock but Rey holds out a hand and gives a warning look. There's more clicks and a whistle before BB-8 turns and rolls off.]

I think you've offended him.

He... has feelings? That's crazy.

[ Not explicitly a denial, but it sounds like an acutely odd idea to Junior. Where he's from, technology just doesn't go in that direction nor is it advanced enough to try. ]

Oh, uh, Junior. [ He sticks a hand out. Now is the time to introduce oneself, right? Totally. ]

[She raises an eyebrow at his introduction. If he had the scar on his face, this would be an entirely different situation. But he doesn't have it so she slowly reaches out to take hold of his hand.]

Rey.

[She gives his hand a quick and firm shake.]

Anyway, BB-8 perceives and interprets things freely. I'm not sure I'd call it feelings.

[Speaking of the droid, she turns and motions for it to move in close once again. She wants to keep a close eye on her little friend.]

[ Warm hands, a good firm handshake, all not things one might associate with his doppelganger. How strange. ]

Rey. Nice to meet you. And... BB-8? I guess? Do you introduce yourself to robots?

I'm sure he appreciates it when people do.

[She's still trying to figure him out, trying to determine if this is Kylo Ren at an earlier point or if it truly is someone else entirely. The facial similarities are throwing her off enough that she's guarded even while smiling and making conversation.]

Have you been here long, Junior?

Eh... a couple weeks, maybe a month.

[ He doesn't quite get the reticence, hasn't had the pleasure of being compared to one (1) Kylo Ren yet. It's only a matter of time, really. ]

Enough to know my way around, not enough to really say I know anybody yet. It's... definitely different than where I come from.

[Give her time, she'll get around to asking him about the face thing. For now she's content to walk and talk.]

[ He cants his head to the side in acknowledgement. ]

[Both of her hands are briefly held up, like she's telling him to leave her out of assuming she's been here longer than he has.]

And it's a good thing I have. It sounds like I have a lot to teach you about surviving on primitive planets.

[ It's funny, though, because Junior is exactly the opposite. He loves his creature comforts, okay. ]

[She gives him an unimpressed look.]

You learn how to make the most out of everything when you live in the desert.

[ And he pauses, looks at her back, then catches up with himself. ]

Oh. Yeah, that makes sense. You think that's even the kind of thing you can teach?

[She seems to think it over before shrugging.]

I learned quickly as a child. I'm sure you'll stand a good chance too.

I'm definitely a quick learner. Might have some trouble with my city-boy tendencies, though.

I'm sure I could hit them out of you eventually.

[He doesn't seem like he's the sort who could hold up in a fight for too long.]

[ Ha... hahaha... depends on how you define it, really. ]

Uh, I wouldn't advise the hitting. I work better with the carrot over the stick.

The carrot is for coddling. You won't get anywhere that way.

[The way she answers makes it unclear if she's teasing or being serious. Despite the face issue he's incredibly enjoyable to talk with and tease.

She stops walking to look behind her, realizing she hasn't heard or seen BB-8 since introductions. When she doesn't see the droid following along after them she frowns and looks around.]

Have you tried it? I rather like the carrot. It goes well in cakes.

[ Junior, what does that even mean?

He stops when she does, follows her line of sight, frowns thoughtfully. ]

Should we have... put a leash on him or something?

I've never once had a carrot. Or a cake.

[Desert rations are the worst. At his question about her droid she shakes her head and crosses her arms over her chest.]

BB-8 isn't afraid of coming and going as he needs to. He'll turn up soon.

Whoa. Okay, new goal: fixing that immediately. It won't be hard, but it is necessary. Come with me.

[ They're going to the bakery where he works so he can remedy this awful situation. Never had a cake? What is it with people here and not having cake? ]

Do you at least know what bread is?

[She follows along beside him but stops walking and rolls her eyes when he asks her about bread.]

I've had bread before!

[She hurries to catch up to him, wondering where it is he's leading her. There's so many new places to see here that she wants to stop and take time to see it all.]

Where are you taking me?

[ She can see them later. This is important! ]

Well, I'm glad for that, because it's apparently a question I need to ask. Some other girl here hadn't. Didn't even know what it was. Do you know how hard it is to describe bread?

[ He shakes his head. ]

Bakery. I'm making you a cake.
