EVENT | LANDFALL | EVIDET | January 28th - February 11th
LANDFALL - EVIDET
Greetings, chelonauts! This month we’re going to have the first landfall for the new plot, as well as the first repeated landfall. This event takes place on the continent of Evidet, home to the republic of Bresilyk. An overview of the continent can be found in the Continent section of the Locations page, as well as a link to the previous landfall.
A combination of tides and luck have guided Tu Vishan towards the first landmass since Malicant's defeat, and those who were present a little over a year ago may recognize the icy coastline as that of Evidet, the polar continent of Konryu. Although they're quite far from the original landfall area where Aihsohlow, Markutte and Phorezton are located, the bulk of the turtle drifts gently into the shallow waters just on the eastern edge of the A'imil Strait, about three miles outside of Khatronma.
- Shipbuilders City of Khatronma
- Khatronma is the bustling, industrial port city of the Bresilyk Republic, located on the deep A'imil Strait on the eastern part of the continent. The city is the central location for their shipbuilding, renowned across Konryu, and the natural inland harbor provides shelter to their naval fleet, second only to that of Chihuelo. Like all the cities of Bresilyk, it is covered by a crystal dome that extends all the way to the shore, although the harbour itself is open to the frigid elements. The city itself seems overbuilt at first glance, with reinforced building foundations and walls, and double-layered walkways as if to withstand harsh wear. Asking around will determine that these are remnants of the time before Khatronma's dome was rebuilt, which had been partially dismantled during an attack by a demolitions force originating from Kerro Raris many generations ago.
Massive construction warehouses line the waterfront, each capable of housing the ships as they're built. Since the majority of Evidet's economy is based around mining the crystals used to construct the domes, many unique types of ore are extracted along with those efforts. It's said that in the past, Evidet also traded with Siaxhi for giant trees used to construct wooden ships, but only a handful of craftmasters retain this knowledge, and iron ships (though the alloy is actually a carefully guarded recipe of metal mixtures) have been the norm for Khatronma to produce for decades. Capable of constructing everything from small, elegant pleasurecraft to imposing battleships, the shipbuilders work in 12-hour shifts around the clock, even though there appears to be no urgency at present.
Khatronma itself is a hardworking, but gregarious city. The native Bresilykians are initially surprised at the arrival of Tu Vishan and the Foreigners, for while Khatronma is busy, it is not actually a trade center for the republic and thus they have less contact with outsiders than other port cities like Aihsohlow or Markutte. The shipbuilders genuinely enjoy their work and take great pride in it, and will happily tell the Foreigners about previous generations of their families whose accomplishments they strive to live up to.
The city itself is built around the sense of community that the Khatronmians have cultivated. It's not unusual for multiple generations of a family to live together, and there are no individual housing units in the city. Instead, huge building complexes form entire neighbourhoods, and it's typical to have anywhere from 100-1000 all living in the same block. These are designed much like self contained cities in themselves, with stores and services all in central column around which multiple floors are built. In fact, it appears as though these neighbourhood blocks may have been the inspiration for the quad housing that the Foreigners were assigned to for a time.
Unlike the smaller towns of the previous landfall, Khatronma has a customs system which involves passports rather than simply stamping papers. This will cause an initial delay, as everyone from Keeliai will be issued with new passports marking them as being from another nation altogether; however, these will theoretically allow residents of Keeliai to move around the Republic without needing their credentials checked at every turn. ‘Theoretical’, of course, being due to the Great Turtle’s place of rest; although Bresilyk experts can judge with a good degree of accuracy how long it will take for the continent’s tides to lift Tu Vishan back out to sea, leaving Khatronma is not recommended for anyone who intends to go with, in case they miss the tide.
Although the celebration of their harvest and the oncoming winter is long over, Bresilyk still has a tradition of gift-giving for nearly any occasion. Where many nations would see such gifts as bribes, here they are seen as a means by which to smooth a journey … to a point. Gifts given to induce an official into breaking policy is seen as a crime, but gifts given to endear or to compliment are perfectly legal -- even expected. Gifts from international travellers, particularly, is seen as only polite when coming into any Bresilyk city; a small, inexpensive gift at each entry is preferred to one large, expensive one at the outset. - Launch Day! - Feb 1st
- At the beginning of February, both the Foreigners and the kedan will have the opportunity to see one of the newly-completed ships being launched into the harbour. A complicated system of pulleys and hydraulics will move the huge ship from its berth and lower it gently to the water's surface amid excited cheering and celebration. The closest analogy is a paddle steamer, though its scale dwarfs any of that constructed on Earth, with four paddles each several stories tall. Its name translates roughly to Bronzeglider in the Bresilyk language.
The entire shipbuilding workforce is given the day off -- this is typical for the city -- and many take the opportunity to work on their personal watercraft projects between jovially getting together with colleagues. Street vendors selling food and mildly alcoholic drinks line the waterfront, and unlike some of the kedan, they have no issue with the Foreigners, and welcome them to partake of the day's event. - Supply Runs
- The kedan are stocking up with all kinds of supplies, particularly perishables. Given Evidet’s landscape, the Bresilyk people are particularly good with preserving foodstuffs, and the kedan will be looking to trade for some of that as well, especially salted or smoked meat. They will also be taking advantage of the opportunity for some dedicated fishing of their own, particularly with species they can use to stock their own artificial lakes.
The Woodsmen and the Metalworkers will both be seeking to trade for some measure of technology. The Woodsmen have plans to exchange some of the Chiheulan re-seeding tech in exchange for some understanding of Bresilyk greenhouse blueprints, in the hope of expanding the range of their produce and having a more refined means of protecting their crops now that the seasons are somewhat more unpredictable.
The Metalworkers, in keeping with their recent focus, are looking at Bresilyk communications technology. Though the Bresilyk people are reticent about sharing their technology, an exchange of researchers has been arranged in the hope of enriching both sides with different perspectives, particularly with regard to the Bresilyk Republic’s recent research into tracking brainwaves.
The kedan will also be making a big trade for ore and other smelted metals. In the course of their mining for the crystal of the domes, the Bresilyk people have a number of resource-rich mines and are quite happy to trade for the raw materials, particularly for the fresh produce the Woodsmen grow. The Metalworkers and the Woodsmen have managed to broker a trade agreement between them enough to take advantage of the situation, with the Metalworkers exchanging some communication infrastructure among the Woodsmen’s farms for some of the ore the Woodsmen receive from the Republic. - Emissaries of Lichoyras - Feb 6th
- A week and a half after the Foreigners land near Khatronma, five Bresilykians arrive in the city and begin inquiring amongst the kedan and Foreigners who is in charge. They will introduce themselves as representatives of Bresilyk's capital Lichoyras, the massive inland city-state which houses nearly half the Bresilykian population. They will also advise those they speak to that they have been sent on the capital's behalf and are empowered to negotiate a more stable and, most importantly, a more prosperous formal alliance between Bresilyk and Keeliai. It seems that the visitation of Tu Vishan nearly two years ago left a positive impression on the Republic's leadership, and they are particularly interested in the Foreigners.
The five emissaries have been carefully chosen by the Republic's leaders to represent various aspects of what Bresilyk wants from Keeliai.Azehaiss - MILITARY. A shrewd man of indeterminately late-middle age and a decorated naval commander, he seems glad to be out of the capital city. He was "promoted" unwillingly to an administrative job, which he finds boring. He understands the need for the position, but he'd much rather be at sea, an opinion he does little to hide from the kedan and Foreigners. He finds the current lack of formalized law enforcement on Tu Vishan disturbing. He will be seeking out Foreigners with battle experience, particularly on a large scale, and keeping a careful eye on the Snakes, as they are the current martial law of Keeliai.
Eiryam - TECHNOLOGY. A young man who has mastered the art of talking a lot without saying much at all. Since technology is Bresilyk's most carefully guarded element, he's exceptionally good at deflecting questions when they get too probing. He's a tinkerer himself -- and in fact will be inclined to make small mechanical gadgets for the Foreigners if they're interested -- but his background is actually in patent law, something highly respected in Bresilyk. He'll be especially interested in speaking with the Metalworkers and any of the technologically-inclined Foreigners.
Ingsthya - COMMERCE & TRADE. A young woman who has recently been appointed to her post, Ingsthya is eager to prove her prowess in arranging formal trade between the two nations. She treats each negotiation as a game to be won, but the other emissaries will confirm that she is holding these negotiations with the backing of the Republic. She's less interested in the Foreigners than the others, but only because they don't seem to have much presence in Keeliai at this time. If any want to prove that incorrect, they would certainly earn her considerable interest.
Khayleof - CULTURE. An elderly woman, Khayleof has only recently moved to Lichoyras. Prior to that she lived in Phorezton, and was present when the fires took out part of the settlement a few months before the Foreigners arrived in December 2013. She is kind, but takes her responsibility as an ambassador of Bresilykian culture very seriously. She wishes to speak with Foreigners who have landfalled at other continents, and is the one most interested in Tu Vishan's current unknown status.
Nandzinra - AGRICULTURE. A motherly, middle-aged woman, she is a horticulture scientist in one of Lichoyras' leading hydroponic associations. Due to Evidet's polar climate and the fact that its year-long growing seasons are sometimes decades apart, artificial growing fields are rigidly maintained and subject to extremely strict oversight by the Republic -- they are literally feeding the continent. As such, Nandzinra is always very aware of the image she projects, and rarely says anything without careful consideration, traits that make her an excellent, if somewhat hard to read, diplomat. She is very interested in agricultural practices used in the Foreigner's worlds, and will probe for that information to make very detailed notes for her own records.
After a discussion amongst the NPC Family heads, the emissaries will be cautiously welcomed to Keeliai -- the general consensus being that their potential offers of alliance outweigh the risks. - Item Discoveries
- The following items have been approved for the characters listed below. A separate thread header in the Landfall log will have descriptions of where each person's items can be found, and players are welcome to organize any threading of its discovery.• Valdis (

Also lord I need CR with Eiryam.Re: QUESTIONS
Re: QUESTIONS
All of this boils down to "I WANT CALLAGHAN TO GET ENOUGH STUFF TO SET UP A RUDIMENTARY LAB-WORKSHOP. CAN THIS BE A THING." like he's not going to do anything super crazy with it, no matter what kind of materials he's able to obtain, but with the past few weeks considered this is the equivalent of a shopping spree for him and he'd be more than willing to trade things with various people for it.
Re: QUESTIONS
Re: QUESTIONS
Also, given that the people native to the land are very tall, would it be difficult for Akito to find clothes to fit him? Or would child-size stuff fit him alright?
Re: QUESTIONS
Most of them contain a small crystalline power core (about the size of a quarter), and this material is a less pure version of the crystal that the domes are constructed of. The natives will explain that in order to be used in dome construction, the crystal must meet a certain purity. They call its pure form "glaz", and "al'glaz" in the variant that is used for power cells.
These power cells are good for about a month of use (or two if used sparingly), at which point they're usually swapped out for a new one. There isn't any (known) way for them to be recharged, although the Bresilykians will admit that because the al'glaz is so abundant in Evidet, they never really looked that hard into developing that angle.
2. Buying children's sized clothes would definitely be the way to go, and any of the local tailors in Khatronma will be happy to adjust the fit for him.

That sounds good!

Would he share anything he learns with all the turtle parents unprompted?
no subject
He's certainly going to share the information, but how and when depends heavily on how significant the information would be. (Ranging from "RADIO EVERYONE ASAP" to "I'll have to remember to put this on the console network.)
