[admin post] Admin Post: State of the Shell | RE: Endgame | JULY 2014

Hello Chelonauts, we've got some very big news to announce! We'd like to thank everyone who participated in our endgame discussion post. The mods have taken the feedback there and put together something which we hope will work for as many of our players as possible and take the game into new territory.

Before I get into the announcement, I wanted to say that we really appreciate the patience of those who've stuck with us as we've been finding our footing with running TuShanshu -- it means a lot for us! ♥

So without further ado...

Endgame Decision
The game's previously set end date of March 2015 has being rescinded, meaning that TuShanshu has no preset closure. We will, however, be heading toward a major event and wrap of the main Malicant arc in October 2014. The game's continuation after will include changes to facilitate getting the most out of characters' strengths and give players lots of new options for different types of play. I've written up a brief outline of the plot arcs and changes with an approximate timeline for them below, as well as some IC direction on what will come from them.

1. July-October 2014
First and foremost, the Malicant arc is now set to culminate in October 2014. All of the event developments going forward (including the July Landfall in Valishaera) will feature key plot points that will lead into this including a big plot reveal that's coming in August that's really going to shake character's idea of what they thought they knew about this world. However whether Malicant is destroyed or merely driven out of Keeliai and back to the Death Plane is still entirely dependent on characters' actions! TuShanshu has always let the actions of the players play a major role in determining the course of the plot and that's not going to change. While Malicant may be the big bad of this universe, you've told us that it has becoming a little smothering! So his influence will be lifted from the immediacy of the day-to-day play and at this time, there are no plans to reintroduce it in the same capacity.

Some things to look forward to through this segment (no spoilers!):
      • A major power vacuum in Keeliai
      • Kedan uprising??
      • Discovery of the three Planes' origins
      • Secrets about existing NPCs revealed

2. November-December 2014
During these months, the city is going to be in full rebuilding mode. This was something that people had expressed a clear interest in on the discussion post and definitely something that's going to need to happen. This will be a rebuilding on much more than just a physical level! Keeliai, indeed all of Tu Vishan, is getting an overhaul. This is going to be everything from how the city is organized and run, to re-establishing settlements outside of the city's walls and across the turtle's shell which have been abandoned for centuries. Characters will have the opportunity to become actual leaders of the community if they wish, in a far greater capacity than just running a business or providing a service. This is also when some of the internal strife among the kedan will be resurfacing with the renewal of gang conflicts and different factions disagreeing about a lot of things, including Foreigner involvement in their lives.

During this time, there will also be the opportunity for characters to voluntarily depart Tu Vishan for players who give their characters closure on this era of the game. While there will be still be plenty to do and they will be asked to stay if they can (and assured time is still frozen in their worlds), the original contract as promised by Eshai will be honoured if invoked.

(This will also give players a bit of a break from the pace of the Malicant plot! Which just conveniently happens to fall into the super busy holiday season so no burnout. #justasplanned)

Some things to look forward to through this segment:
      • Government?? someone run for mayor
      • Help restructure daily life for the kedan
      • Rediscovering Tu Vishan's resources
      • Play pilgrim! Go settle a town.

3. January 2015 →
Beginning in the new year, things are going to ramp up again as Tu Vishan begins exploring again with the intent of reconnecting with the other civilizations in Konryu and adapting the best parts of those cultures to strengthen Keeliai. There are plans for a thriving black market of outlawed items that feature both in magical and technological circles, taken from the different places that are visited. In fact it will be in complete control of the players whether Keeliai steers more towards a magical side of advancement or a technological side. Overall however, both magic and tech levels are going to increase in sophistication.

However such has the converse effect of letting the rest of Konryu know that Shit Has Gone Down on the turtle and Keeliai is still in a state of flux, potentially making it vulnerable. As the last living Great Turtle, there are plenty of less fortunate people on the continents who would love to exploit that resource. Some of them will be peaceful and some won't! It's going to take a solid mix of diplomacy, cunning and outright brute force to keep Keeliai from becoming someone's new invasion target. But there will be lots of cities to explore on all the continents, like mini landfalls, and the increase in magic and tech will mean that these can happen more frequently.

This will not be the same unrelenting warlike atmosphere that the game presently has during the Malicant arc... no permanent sieges or the like. However we're planning to keep characters on their toes through a variety of IC challenges so that the game doesn't stagnate into SOL all the time.

This game shift will instead be working with things such as survival in new territories both on Tu Vishan and across the various continents of Konryu, political intrigues both foreign and domestic and profound character impact on the rebuilding of Keeliai. Kedanese independence will be introduced, with the potential for civil unrest. There will be dangers to the hatchling turtles as they grow into their first year of life (and grow in general, they're going to be starting their "adolescent" growth) and machinations to take them from their parents, so they'll need even more protecting. Experimenting with new tech and new magic can cause strange effects on the city, allowing for more short term events like temporary changes (for a nice occasional break from the civilization aspect) and characters having more significant standing in the city will open the door to player plots with far-reaching consequences, both good and bad.

Some things to look forward to through this segment:
      • Help determine Keeliai's new standing in Konryu
      • Spies and dignitaries and schemers, oh my!
      • Create IC factions (council, guardians, black ops, etc)
      • Open NPC creation based on plot needs
      • Black market/underground for characters on both sides of the law
      • Magic & tech mishap shenanigans

So there you have it! These are by no means exhaustive lists of the things planned and in the works for each time frame, but I didn't want to spoil too much of the plot for everyone! Thank you again for giving us your feedback and helping us pick this new direction for TuShanshu.
