Event Precursor | Meta/Power Reduction | June 16th - 24th
Good evening, Chelonauts! The time has come to introduce the first part of our two-parter June event! Sit back, relax, and mayhaps chuckle with evil glee as we embark upon another great adventure here in Turtletopia.
Meta/Power Reduction
There will be a decline in Tu Vishan's health commencing June 16th and degrading to a critical point around the 24th, which encompasses phase one of the plot. What does this mean, exactly? Well! Tu Vishan's power is the source of energy that life needs to survive on turtleback. When he falters, everything falters and that means the following impacts will be noticed:
Power Reduction Impact
First and foremost, all characters on Tu Vishan will experience a gradual lessening of strength and/or power over this time period. This is not an opt-in plot effect. Special abilities will first feel muted to those using them with it becoming increasingly difficult to control them, and then basically impossible to access them at all by the 24th. This will, in effect, reduce almost everyone to a baseline human for strength and ability. Characters that require their abilities to survive will remain alive, but will find that any 'excess' abilities that are carried with it (such as super strength) will degrade and effectively disappear.
Characters granted powers or abilities by enhancements or genetics (see: mutants, metas) will be similarly affected. If you weren't born with it or if it gives the character something more than a baseline human has, they will lose it. Again, this does not mean they will die, for Tu Vishan's power at its core is meant to preserve and sustain life, but they will lose access to extra abilities as the turtle diverts its life energy more and more into sustaining and repairing itself.
Shapeshifters will find it increasingly difficult to change form, to the point that they may get stuck in a form commencing July 20th or later. They might experience a variety of issues, from incomplete transformations to incorrect results (such as trying to become a cat and instead turning into a cat with a dog's head and tail).
Technology Impact
This also impacts technology, as any reactions necessary for powering technology will suffer a similar dampening effect. That bionic arm of badass? It'll become bionic baseline. That suit of armour Tony Stark parades around in? It'll turn into a great conversation piece, dust collector, and not much else. Once again, as with powers, tech required to sustain life (such as the arc reactor in Tony's chest) will operate, but anything beyond that base minimum needed to survive will start experience glitches and will ultimately fail.
The consoles will remain online throughout this, but glitches and connection errors can and will be experience by all parties as time goes on. Think of it like a DDoS attack that ebbs and surges over time, with the surges increasing in frequency as the 24th nears.
The Turtle Impact
Attempts to make contact with Tu Vishan at his head will first experience a sense of worry and an aura of illness in place of the peaceful field that has generally presided at this site. Telepathic contact with the turtle will find the mind closed off for the first time, with the overload of his great experiences and knowledge tempered to a mere shove as he seeks to reassure the little creatures on his shell that he is still here, only very occupied with healing himself.
The barrier around Tu Vishan will steadily shrink over time, until it just barely covers the shell's area, his fins, head, and up to six stories above the shell's surface in the very heart of Keeliai. Wildlife, flora, and water quality will all take a dip with any un-meta-or-magic-tended farms suffering a loss of their potential harvest.
Other than that, there are no immediate clues or evidence to explain what is happening or how to fix it. The kedan will, on the whole, appear worried, but will also state that it is not within their powers to affect the great turtle. Speaking of...
The Kedan Impact
With the health of Tu Vishan faltering, kedan also will be experiencing a decline in their ability to shapeshift. Their strength levels will decrease to baseline human and they may be witnessed experiencing the same kinds of shifting "glitches" as outlined in the Power Reduction Impact section above. They are not the only ones either...
The NPC Impact
Turns out that everyone depends on Tu Vishan for life, so one might discover that Evandau's nullification aura is on the fritz and therefore his ability to maintain the peace greatly reduced. Rumour passing through the ranks of kedan may speak of an impact to the Ironwood Emperor, but she is sequestered away in the Palace of Landed Sky and shall not voluntarily take visitors at this time.
Rationing Impact
Who here remembers the one-fifth contribution that all characters in-game have been required to make towards communal stores since the start of the rationing? That all is coming to surface again! Kedan heralds will pass through each Sector at least once per day (commencing the 18th) to announce any and all residents of Keeliai are welcome to report to the local police precinct and recieve a portion of the stores to help see them through this.
Meawhile, those PC efforts to create a food source for the city of Keeliai are now not just a Good Samaritan effort! They are, in fact, the main (and eventually only) remaining sources of fresh produce for all PCs and NPCs alike. Kedan will be flocking to the hydroponics garden to assist and purchase anything available for consumption and Amaterasu's garden efforts will experience a matched increase in attention.
And, as a result of these and any other PC efforts to create and/or redistribute food, the kedan will return to a friendly, cooperative footing with the Foreigners of Keeliai. They will state that the time to blame to newcomers is come and gone; they must now work together to survive what afflicts Tu Vishan.
OOC Organisation
With the details about the first phase of the plot shared, we now take a moment to call for input on how y'all would like the second phase to be handled OOCly. The goal of phase two will be to Solve Things and there will be many a thing to solve in order to sort things out. To give an insight into what will happen, phase two will be kicked off by an IC post by Evandau basically giving Foreigners free-rein to solve Tu Vishan's sudden worsening. What happens after that will be influenced by player action, reaction, and interaction. (More details will be provided in a separate plotting post once the OOC organisation plan is set.)
Right now, we're looking at allowing players to submit teams of PC characters that will be working together to solve what's wrong with Tu Vishan. I (being Alex) would then provide each team with a set of clues every 2-3 days during the event that they could work with. This would function like a choose-your-own-adventure game, with each set of clues coming with multiple choice options for how the team might react. Each team would look over the clues, then get back to me with their next step. Then they would recieve another set of clues.
Another option would be to have sign-ups and then teams formed by RNG completed by the mods, with a similar clue system involved.
So, we're looking for input on how to proceed! There is a specific subheader in the comments for this feedback and if you could complete the following form, you would be providing us a great service!
As always, there is a sub-header in the comments for questions. If you have specific questions about this plot, please contact Alex (
reignsdown) as she is (a) on days off and (b) is the lead mod on this event. Otherwise, feel free to plot in the comments of this post!

PHASE TWO -- OOC ORGANISATION FEEDBACK
now in the right place ugh
Character(s): Traci Thirteen
Event Preferences:
Team: RNG for me!
Clues: I'd actually love a choose your own adventure, yes
Frequency: Maybe about 4-5 days per interval at least? About a week otherwise, or choose their own intervals since too fast makes it hard for everyone to catch up.
Impact: I'd like them to have both bad and good ends.
Other Nada! This events sounds like fun.
OOC ORGANISATION FEEDBACK
Character: Dinah
Event Preferences:
Team: RNG is better for me personally
Clues: CHOSE YOUR OWN CLUEVNETURE sounds like an awesome idea.
Frequency: Preferred interval within limits? between 4 days and a week maybe.
Impact: I don't mind either way.
Other I'm so looking forward to this plot you don't even know.
no subject
Character(s): Rose Tyler
Event Preferences:
Team: Either, whatever the majority wants!
Clues: I would love choose your own adventure style
Frequency: I think that depends on how long phase two is going to last. 3-4 days in between each interval could be a happy medium, with teams deciding if they want to go faster or slower after things start up?
Impact: RNG to a good or bad end sounds awesome, it leaves room for the unexpected
Other wish I had a suggestion on how to run things, but it sounds amazing!
Re: PHASE TWO -- OOC ORGANISATION FEEDBACK
Character(s): Alcuin, Randolph Lyall
Event Preferences:
Team: RNG sounds fine with me.
Clues: A choose-your-own-clue-venture sounds fun!
Frequency: I would say 3-5 days at least since it can be hard to coordinate if things move to quickly.
Impact: I am inclined to say that every team should have something at the end since it might be frustrating to be on a team that didn't. I can see how that might be unrealistic, though.
Other This is exciting!
Re: PHASE TWO -- OOC ORGANISATION FEEDBACK
Character(s): Zelgadis, Tazendra
Event Preferences:
Team: RNGs are fine with me, but I'm cool with giving others the option to form their own groups.
Clues: Sure.
Frequency: Maybe sort teams by interval if that's not too much work? (Or most active hours
Impact: Maybe a possible impact, depending on actions.
Other If you need any help, don't hesitate to ask. Also, Tazendra isn't terrible at investigation, but normally she leaves it to others, so consideration. (OTOH, if there's trouble, she'll be happy to come along to hit it.)
no subject
Character(s): Jean Prouvaire and Sadie Kane
Event Preferences:
Team: Both? Maybe let people who want to work together do that but if people sign up without a partner, RNG them into groups
Clues: As long as no path ends in death or turning into a hamster, choose-your-own-clueventure would be amazing
Frequency: I'd say no more than a week but no less than three days.
Impact: I like the idea of only a few actually getting to the problem's source and fixing it.
Other Maybe everyone could have some sort of impact, like Group A doing this means Group B can't do something or something Group C does opens up a path for Group D. That might be insanely too complex, but I thought I'd suggest it just in case.
NOW IN THE RIGHT PLACE ALSO
Character(s): Percy Jackson, Katniss Everdeen, Catty Turner
Event Preferences:
Team: Player submitted! Or the ability to like, pick a partner for your character and then have those two randomised, because codependency.
Clues: That sounds rad af
Frequency: I think 4ish days should probably be good enough
Impact: I think RNGing it so some have an effect and some don't is a good idea!
Other - changed my mind oops. I'd recommend not having teams get above four characters, just because threads can get unweildly and slow beyond that. ALSO I like the idea of having a mix of RNg and player submitted, if possible c:
no subject
Character(s): Finnick, Vanessa
Event Preferences:
Team: Player-submitted
Clues: I love the idea of a choose your own adventure!
Frequency: I like 3-4 days to a week as an interval, to give people enough time to plan or w/e
Impact: It'd be awesome to have an impact, whether for good or bad!
Other It might work too that if people wanted to have RNG teams, they could be sorted together, and those that would rather pick their own teams could do that. Also, it'd be a good idea to keep the number of members on a team to a relatively low one. Maybe 3-4 people per team?
Re: PHASE TWO -- OOC ORGANISATION FEEDBACK
Character(s): Wally West
Event Preferences:
Team: RNG
Clues: Yes for choose your own adventure.
Frequency: About 3-4'd be good.
Impact: It'd be more interesting to have some of them RNG'd to dead ends, yes. As long as there's a variety among the teams, it's all good.
Other N/A
no subject
Character(s): Javert
Event Preferences:
Team: RNG is probably the most fair
Clues: CHOOSE YOUR OWN ADVENTURE SOUNDS AWESOME
Frequency: 3-4 days seems reasonable to me
Impact: How many teams are there? How about some REAL information/impact and some red herrings? It would probably make it a little confusing, but throwing out some false leads for a few groups could make things mighty interesting. After all, what kind of clusterfuck would happen if the characters act on the wrong information? Seems fun to me.
Other I AM REALLY EXCITED FOR EVERYTHING.
no subject
Character(s): Bruce Banner /
Event Preferences:
Team: Both. I've been in a similar team-based set up in another game, and my conclusion then was that the best way to work it is to let people submit their own teams, and then fill in empty spots with random people who don't have a team to join.
Clues: Sure! That sounds awesome.
Frequency: Several days at least. I'm a fan of more time so things can be worked out in more detail. The actual interval, though, should be what's convenient for you guys, because that's going to be an insane amount of work. So I'd suggest having them staggered, intervals set by you.
Impact: I'd be okay with some dead ends! idk I don't have much opinion on this :|a
Other N/A?
Feedback
Character(s): Charles Xavier
Event Preferences:
Team: RNG
Clues: Chose your own clue!
Frequency: Each team provide preferred interval
Impact: Tricky question. I think that perhaps teams should get out of it what they put into it, rather than a set conclusion before any IC actions begin.
Other I'm just along for the turtle ride!
Re: PHASE TWO -- OOC ORGANISATION FEEDBACK
Character(s): Sabriel
Event Preferences:
Team: Maybe have options for both?
Clues: Choose your own adventure works for me.
Frequency: 2-3 days seems like a good interval?
Impact: I think every team should have some impact, some more than others?
Other This event sounds like a ton of fun!
no subject
Character(s): Bart Allen
Event Preferences:
Team: Both! I see a lot of people saying OK to RNG, but personally, I know Bart would complain if he wasn't on a team with his friends.
Clues: Sure? No real thoughts here.
Frequency: I think a minimum of 3. Set intervals sound easier on the mods.
Impact: Dead-ends! Not every team can be right all the time.
Other Whoo! I'm just in time for plottage.
no subject
Character(s): Amon
Event Preferences:
Team: RNG Amon is bad at teams
Clues: Chose-your-own-clue-venture! WE FOUND A BLUE PAW PRINT
Frequency: 3-5? A daily interval would be exhausting
Impact: A good end but at a huge cost?
Other This power thing is just fucking Christmas for Amon
Re: PHASE TWO -- OOC ORGANISATION FEEDBACK
Character(s): Dorian Gray, Richard of Windor
Event Preferences:
Team: Either or? So you can have a player submitted one if teams would organize ICly/you can pull strings ICly, but you can RNG into teams if you need other kinds of circumstances to get characters together?
Clues: Yes.
Frequency: 2-3 would be nice, but it looks like a lot of people are going to want to participate in this, so maybe a wider interval so you + us can handle the information that needs to be going around and all that? It may be best if intervals are set by you if only so you don't have to juggle a dozen different schedules.
Impact: All choose your own adventures have at least one ending where you get eaten by dinosaurs. Let there be some dead ends!
Other This sounds super awesome. Since there's going to need to be tons of OOC coordination, it might be good if every team set up an OOC thread/post/whatever where you can give them info and they can gather together to choose how they're going to go? Plurk also works for that but not everyone has it so.
no subject
Character(s): Dick Grayson
Event Preferences:
Team: RNG would be awesome and a great way to build new CR.
Clues: Clueventure yes pls
Frequency: I'd say a few days between clues, depending on how long you guys want the event to go. I'd say at least 5 since the groupmembers will have to touch base with each other, yes?
Impact: Either/or
no subject
Character(s): Amelia wil Tesla Saillune and Toph Bei Fong
Event Preferences:
Team: Cookie would be good. But otherwise RNG sounds good?
Clues: YES.
Frequency: Probably 3-5 days?
Impact: It'd be nice if every team could have an impact, if it's possible. I love equal-opportunity stuff.
Other This sounds really interesting. The challenge will probably be having teams coordinating with one another and how the effects of rl will affect people's abilities to move forward. I wonder if anything can be done to help mitigate that? (I wish I had stronger ideas towards this, but at the moment, nothing off the top of my head.)
Re: PHASE TWO -- OOC ORGANISATION FEEDBACK
Character(s): Asbel Lhant
Event Preferences:
Team: Definitely Cookie. But that said, I'm leaning sliiiightly towards player preference with a side of RNG for those who want it?
Clues: I love choose your own adventure, yesss.
Frequency: I think a preferred interval for teams is probably best, within a couple of day range?
Impact: I do like the idea of good and bad ends, but I do think there should be at least a little something for the bad ends to make it a little less frustrating if you get bad-ended. Editing to add that I am also totally cool with being eaten by dinosaurs.
Other Nothing, I am excite.
no subject
Character(s): The Archive
Event Preferences:
Team: Both! People who have teams they want can have their teams and people who want RNG/don't have a team get RNG'd into a team.
Clues: Sounds like fun!
Frequency: Whatever is easiest on you guys, though at least a few days to account for people having busy lives?
Impact: Not super opinionated on this? I guess another whatever is easiest for you! This does sound like a whole lot of work.
Other This is super cool and you guys are super cool!!!
no subject
Character(s): Gavroche!
Event Preferences:
Team: RNG would be way cool.
Clues: Choose your own adventure, whaaaah.
Frequency: I'm not TOO picky, but 3 or so days, maybe a bit longer?
Impact: I think it would be interesting if there were dead-ends and other ends, tbh.
Other: This is exciting @_@
no subject
Character(s): Annabeth, Peggy
Event Preferences:
Team: I think both would be best. People who want to choose partners, rng for those who don't care or to fill up the teams?? Though I don't think the teams should be more than 4 if only for coordination reasons.
Clues: Yesssssssss
Frequency: I don't really have a preference beyond at least 3? 3-4ish.
Impact: Impacts of all sorts!! Dead ends, good ends, but bad ends with potential to later be fixed, maybe idk.
Other nada right now! super excite tho omg
Meeee
Character(s): Damian, Bucky
Event Preferences:
Team: RNG
Clues: Sure! Choose-your-own sounds good!
Frequency: I say let this be set when the teams are picked? Some teams will be able to work through them faster, others may need a bit more time?
Impact: I'm good with some of them winding up in dead ends.
Other EEEEEE LET'S HELP THE LIFE TURTLE!
no subject
Character(s): Superman and Frank Zhang
Event Preferences:
Team: RNG sounds fine by me, but maybe both for people who do want to choose?
Clues: Yessss choose your own clueventure sounds amazing
Frequency: Once or Twice a week at the most to give everyone a chance to catch up?
Impact: Oh God Dead-ends sound amazing, vote is on yes
Other Nope this sounds fun so far
