Extreme Makeover: Keeliai Edition

Hey there, cats and kittens! As you may have noticed, the Palace of Landed Sky is a bit, er, empty as dicks right now, and all of that land is freeeee for the taking!

Sort of.

Not really.

As discussed by Tony, Gene, Sokka, and (peripherally) Valdis, this subset of idiot boys has decided to try and see how they can normalize Foreigner/kedan relations. Gene had brought the idea of formally doing something with the Palace to the family heads and other important NPCs at the forum, and the NPCs opted to think about it and get back to him after the Shangpar race. Now that it's over, heeeeeere are the results, per the mods!

TU YUNXU will be stoutly against the Foreigners having anything to do with the Palace, partly because he genuinely respected Eshai and partly because, with how much bad mojo Malicant left in and around the Palace, they can’t be sure it won’t compromise the Foreigners. A deal might be possible, though, somewhere down the line.

ZANRU is going to support the movement that the Foreigners move into the Palace, primarily because she’s got a ‘cut away from the compromising traditions of the past’ mentality happening. She will support the demolishing of the palace, however, as that will open the construction market even further.

HEOJIN is undecided on the matter of the Foreigners taking the Palace. He understands their need for their own space, but that’s far too much space for only a handful of people. In addition, repurposing the palace in particular sets a bad precedent and sets the Foreigners even further apart. He will suggest bulldozing the palace itself to divide up the land, so the Foreigners can have some, and the rest can be repurposed as parks or among kedan who need homes, and thus integrate the land into the city.

MILYN does not think the Foreigners should move into the palace, feeling that it will damage, not repair, the chances they have at fully integrating with the city. She will also support Heojin's position of demolishing the palace and repurposing the land, including a segment of it for the Foreigners to construct upon whatever they wish, whether housing or otherwise.

So, given this information, Gene is going to opt to be as diplomatic as possible and push for demolishing the palace and divvying up the land. (Sorry, Yunxu.) Thankfully, he can do that all by himself, though if we all wanna blow that shit up together that'd be fun. However - since he is also trying to be as cooperative as possible, which is weird for him - he's not going to move unilaterally on this, because that way lies dictatorship and let's be real he is not immune to being killed in his sleep, ya dig.

Threading this out would probably take the entire month of February, so we can hash this all out here before we move in any direction on this. This will likely have a decently-sized impact on how the Foreigners and kedan interact, so I'd like to get a good amount of responses on how players/characters would like this to go and exactly what we should do with the Palace moving forward.

Uhh and that's it! Please leave your questions beneath the header comment and I'll do my best to answer them, and for those who are unaware I can also be reached on plurk at [plurk.com profile] Chatvert. Go forth and plot!

ETA 2/20/15: The course of action is going to be controlled demolition of the vast majority of the palace with important core buildings, libraries, and gardens preserved. If you want to raise a concern, now's your time.

Valdis can try to lean on Tu Yunxu, you know, once she, uh, regains some composure and control...

Let's see. Accelerator here is too new to have an informed opinion on issue of the palace, and too apathetic to care about anything beyond the likes of "whatever makes the kedan less insufferable for me to deal with." That said, if the demolition results in paid job opportunities, that would grudgingly motivate him to get involved.

Sokka has been officially hired on by the Metalworkers, so he won't have the luxury of spending tons and tons of time handling logistics, but I still would like him to be involved in the biweekly planning meetings of Operation WAFFLEO.

But given the wake of all the feedback, Sokka would be in definite support of the plan as it strikes forward with the path of least resistance as well as establishes a general kedanitarianism that is necessary to go forward. Hey, maybe it'll give us brownie points and whatnot, and we need brownie points. Mmmmm, forbidden brownie.

Sokka already has other ideas about that as well, but I think I'd want to thread that stuff out ICly as far as proposing what to do with the non-Foreigner space. Though I can share them here if that's the appropriate place to do so. Sokka's naturally going to have lots of opinions! ((Some of them might actually be good too!!))

Alayne will be worried about damaging something historic. ;-; But if it's the best solution, she will support Gene.

Wan is against outright demolishing the entire structure largely in part because of what has been done to the areas where the palace halls and the like dug into Tu Vishan's shell. He would like to suggest demoing the outer areas of the palace and the upper stories, but that the walls and halls around where bad stuff was done(tm) be allowed to remain as is until they can be properly spiritually cleansed and what damage done to the shell repaired as much as possible. Which could take years.

He'd also like the main gardens to be left alone. They may be overgrown, but they're beautiful and peaceful in their wild state. If a wall has to go up to protect them from being demo'd, he'll do that.

The prison was the only part of the palace that went below the surface of the shell, and it's been sealed off, so the rest of the Palace could be taken down without damage to Tu Vishan. That said, if demolishing is the route that's decided on, the NPCs are going to probably insist on something a little more constrained than "giant explosion levelling the place" since a lot of the marble can be reused, and it's pretty rare.

Nelo Angelo doesn't know beyond what he was told by Dante and the kaden about the palace. However, he'd support Gene's idea and offer his services if Gene so wanted.

Zel will probably suggest that Heojin's idea is a good compromise, mostly because he likes him. He'll also agree with Wan that anything tainted should be sealed off and avoided. He'd also suggest they leave the library alone, once they check it for traps. A public library is a good thing, and whatever scholars on the shell would appreciate it. He's got enough magic and experience to be useful for construction

Iroh would suggest they not demolish the palace, but open it to the kedan as well. And leave some of the main rooms untouched for historical purposes and to make it clear that things like the throne room are not being used by the Foreigners. And perhaps some of the larger rooms and gardens could be turned into public spaces. Even if they do decide to demolish the palace, he'll suggest leaving the main rooms as a museum for the city's residents.

Tazendra doesn't really care, but she can help with demolishing things and would also suggest removing the nice things (art, textiles, books, sculptures.)

COMMENTING FOR THE SAKE OF COMMENTING AT THIS POINT

Zatanna and Midii will both be mostly indifferent, for their own reasons, and while Aya has absolutely no preference towards "living quarters" given that she doesn't sleep and her little soul trinket is safely in her jewelry...

She will be the voice of objectivity--or at least, try to be--and attempt to argue the pros and cons from a "purely" logical perspective, since she lacks any personal stakes in the matter. Getting in a few points with Zanru certainly couldn't hurt her, though.

Aqua has only just arrived, so she's not attached to the palace at all, but she'll likely go for whatever option is the most diplomatic. She would be against destroying the WHOLE thing, of course, so keeping some parts untouched and so on, but if demolishing a large part of it for land to help everyone, Foreigners and kedan alike, would make the most people happy, she'll be for that.

also she can help with demolition

Raine is moderately concerned about the things under the Palace and them being disturbed, but otherwise her only objection to the plan is 'could you maybe not alienate everyone at once.' And also the library.

...China is not particularly interested, I think, she has a place and what everyone else does is their lookout if it doesn't disrupt her.

I myself do like the idea of the partial demolition with an eye to keeping the important things, and am weighing in mostly for the sake of weighing in. I dream of a solution that pleases everyone IC but I don't think anything that convenient actually exists, so :P

I'm kind of fresh to things here, and it looks like things are pretty much decided (and Toph wouldn't have raised dissent anyway), but . . . I'd like to offer her for demolition and any kind of construction? She's the best ever an earthbender and metalbender with great control, so she could probably be a good help.

Wasn't sure if I needed to post here or just jump in, but thought I'd rather be safe than sorry!
