Extreme Makeover: Keeliai Edition

Hey there, cats and kittens! As you may have noticed, the Palace of Landed Sky is a bit, er, empty as dicks right now, and all of that land is freeeee for the taking!

Sort of.

Not really.

As discussed by Tony, Gene, Sokka, and (peripherally) Valdis, this subset of idiot boys has decided to try and see how they can normalize Foreigner/kedan relations. Gene had brought the idea of formally doing something with the Palace to the family heads and other important NPCs at the forum, and the NPCs opted to think about it and get back to him after the Shangpar race. Now that it's over, heeeeeere are the results, per the mods!

TU YUNXU will be stoutly against the Foreigners having anything to do with the Palace, partly because he genuinely respected Eshai and partly because, with how much bad mojo Malicant left in and around the Palace, they can’t be sure it won’t compromise the Foreigners. A deal might be possible, though, somewhere down the line.

ZANRU is going to support the movement that the Foreigners move into the Palace, primarily because she’s got a ‘cut away from the compromising traditions of the past’ mentality happening. She will support the demolishing of the palace, however, as that will open the construction market even further.

HEOJIN is undecided on the matter of the Foreigners taking the Palace. He understands their need for their own space, but that’s far too much space for only a handful of people. In addition, repurposing the palace in particular sets a bad precedent and sets the Foreigners even further apart. He will suggest bulldozing the palace itself to divide up the land, so the Foreigners can have some, and the rest can be repurposed as parks or among kedan who need homes, and thus integrate the land into the city.

MILYN does not think the Foreigners should move into the palace, feeling that it will damage, not repair, the chances they have at fully integrating with the city. She will also support Heojin's position of demolishing the palace and repurposing the land, including a segment of it for the Foreigners to construct upon whatever they wish, whether housing or otherwise.

So, given this information, Gene is going to opt to be as diplomatic as possible and push for demolishing the palace and divvying up the land. (Sorry, Yunxu.) Thankfully, he can do that all by himself, though if we all wanna blow that shit up together that'd be fun. However - since he is also trying to be as cooperative as possible, which is weird for him - he's not going to move unilaterally on this, because that way lies dictatorship and let's be real he is not immune to being killed in his sleep, ya dig.

Threading this out would probably take the entire month of February, so we can hash this all out here before we move in any direction on this. This will likely have a decently-sized impact on how the Foreigners and kedan interact, so I'd like to get a good amount of responses on how players/characters would like this to go and exactly what we should do with the Palace moving forward.

Uhh and that's it! Please leave your questions beneath the header comment and I'll do my best to answer them, and for those who are unaware I can also be reached on plurk at [plurk.com profile] Chatvert. Go forth and plot!

ETA 2/20/15: The course of action is going to be controlled demolition of the vast majority of the palace with important core buildings, libraries, and gardens preserved. If you want to raise a concern, now's your time.

Zel will probably suggest that Heojin's idea is a good compromise, mostly because he likes him. He'll also agree with Wan that anything tainted should be sealed off and avoided. He'd also suggest they leave the library alone, once they check it for traps. A public library is a good thing, and whatever scholars on the shell would appreciate it. He's got enough magic and experience to be useful for construction

Iroh would suggest they not demolish the palace, but open it to the kedan as well. And leave some of the main rooms untouched for historical purposes and to make it clear that things like the throne room are not being used by the Foreigners. And perhaps some of the larger rooms and gardens could be turned into public spaces. Even if they do decide to demolish the palace, he'll suggest leaving the main rooms as a museum for the city's residents.

Tazendra doesn't really care, but she can help with demolishing things and would also suggest removing the nice things (art, textiles, books, sculptures.)

Zel spent a lot of his early time on the turtle complaining that Eshai wouldn't open her library to anyone without a good reason.

But, yeah. It would require more skill, but they can't level the place anyway if they want to save the stonework
