EVENT | 4TH WALL | FIX IT FORTUITY | FEB 18-MAR 11

Greeting chelonauts and visitors! This post will contain all your OOC needs for the fourth-wall event--feel free to use it for asking questions and plotting.

This season's theme for the 4th wall is "Make It Better", where the Great Turtle Tu Vishan -- or Asti, as he has mentioned his name to be -- feels that between the hurricane and the strange memory-sharing shenanigans that are happening, his denizens could use some emotional pick-me-ups.

The Dreaming and Life Planes are currently merged, but that doesn't stop the former from beginning to produce all sorts of strange occurrences. Characters may experience persistent feelings of deja vu, or that they are being watched. Items of some personal value -- everything from small trinkets to large belongings -- are prone to disappearing, only to resurface in someone else's possession. Even stranger are instances where certain objects suddenly appear, particularly if said things were topics of discussion or wishful thinking.

But appearing objects aren't the only strange happenings...

FIX IT FORTUITY | FEBRUARY 18 - MARCH 11

Things have been a little tense in the city during the last few months, with both external (a highly destructive hurricane in January) and internal (a fracturing and ineffectual council government structure) conflicts weighing on everyone's minds. Resource scarcity has also created concerns about the next few months, particularly when it comes to food, but the acquisition of hydroponics technology from Hatal has provided a tenuous if hopeful buffer. In general, it does seem like Foreigners and kedan are on an even keel with each other as there's an understanding that they need to work together in the same general direction to address some of the basic problems the city faces.

The influx of new Foreigners is met with mixed opinions. The kedan have seen waves of arrivals like this twice before, so the sense of surprise is diminished (and there's an appreciation for the fact that their presence was not accompanied by another building implosion). There are a few fleeting concerns about how the additions will stress resources further, but given that the contingent of Kin'nal recently departed, there's room to spare. Any of the temporary Foreigners are welcome (and sometimes heavily encouraged) to join in the effort to expand and construct new hydroponic equipment and greenhouses. Right now this is primarily resource-gathering and pre-construction preparations, but all hands are on shell.

There are some kedan who remark that this is a positive thing overall - those Foreigners that are bound to Tu Vishan with soul gems usually seem a lot happier during these sporadic but intense visits, which means they're less likely to make trouble. It's also a remarkable business opportunity for those kedan that are enterprising enough to take advantage by operating city tours or pitching small, pop-up markets in places where the snow has mostly melted to attract Foreigner patrons especially. Temporary Foreigners may need to watch out in some places, though, or they may be charged more than is fair for certain goods and services.

PREPARING VISITATION RIGHTS - OOC INFORMATION FOR FOURTH-WALL CHARACTERS

Just a quick reminder that anyone is welcome to the fourth wall event whether they play or have ever played in Tu Shanshu or not, and that both canon and original characters, as well as CRAU and canon OCs are allowed. If you are unsure whether your visiting character falls under these categories, check out our Application FAQ for more detail!

Please note that we do not accept AU characters like genderbends/Rule 63 characters, crack versions (like fandom Abridged series), etc. If you have any questions, please ask us!

The newcomers are Foreigners and will ICly be referred to as such by the native kedan, but there are a couple of important differences between them and the Foreigners who live in the city long-term, namely:

Fourth-wall characters will not have soul jewellery. Information on the soul-gems can be found on the gameplay page, but in a nutshell: Foreigners usually get a piece of magical jewellery with an inset gem upon arrival. This gem is required to keep Foreigners’ souls anchored to Keeliai's world. The 4th wall characters will not experience the symptoms that a regular Foreigner would, if they were separated from their soul gem.

Fourth-wall characters will be able to reply to network posts, but not create their own. This will be explained as a Dreaming glitch -- the consoles will register their names, but not let them make their own broadcasts, similar to how a real-life forum distinguishes between someone being logged-in and someone being logged-out while still labeling their replies with a nickname. Fourth-wall characters can also reply to character's IC inboxes using this same reasoning. Similarly, due to the way the community’s posting/membership allowances work, fourth-wall characters will not be able to make their own logs but are encouraged to make use of the mod-posted or catch-all posts made by members of the game. (Catch-all posts are essentially those made to cover a great length of time or a particular setting -- for instance, one of the PCs’ main housing area, the Midnight Hotel, will have a post covering the two weeks of the fourth-wall event specifically for fourth-wall characters.)

• We'd like to remind everyone that this is a "live" 4th wall, meaning that what happens during the event will be completely remembered after the event ends, and any setting impact/changes/decisions that occur because of the 4th wall characters will be upheld.

• If you are bringing a character back that you've played during a previous 4th Wall event in Tu Shanshu, you are welcome to have them remember that previous time! Or, if you'd prefer to bring them in "fresh", that's fine too. And of course, any characters who were previously played in game can retain those memories.

• Don’t forget the Setting post is available here as well, for your setting-related needs as the event progresses. Please note that while powers are typically not nerfed in the Tu Shanshu setting, we do limit world-or-game breaking powers as a matter of course. We welcome everyone to try out the game’s setting, but characters who are brought in solely to disrupt or "break" the game will be asked to leave.

• For organization purposes, we'd greatly appreciate it if logs and network posts involving 4th wall characters could be tagged with the %4th wall comm tags. Your mods thank you!

CHARACTER SIGNUPS & POSTING

Our 4TH WALL EVENT CHECK IN comment for characters wishing posting access for the duration of the event is open as of now! Remember that you can request new characters to be added even after the beginning of the event, up until March 11th, the last day of the event and the day when the fourth-wall characters will ICly disappear from the city.

After that point, posting access will be maintained for any guest characters up until March 20th, to allow any threads still being played out to finish up. However, we do request that no 4th wall characters tag any posts dated March 12th and onward, as ICly their characters would have left the city by that point.

If you have any questions regarding these rules for the 4th wall, please ask them in the Questions comment below.
