TEST DRIVE MEME - TU SHANSHU EDITION!

Itching to try out writing a character? Then rev up your engines, grab your accounts, and slam your way into this meme! Here is a venue for you to try out whatever character there might be tickling your fancy, from fandom to OC, for as few as one and as many as MANY. Seriously, there's no limit.

How do you partake in this fantastic congregation of character testing? Why, by following these simple steps:

→ Comment with the journal of a character you want to test; put their name and canon in the subject line for added sparkles.
→ Tag around with everyone!
→ Profit like you live on a the back of a turtle!
→ Maybe even RESERVE so you CAN live on the back of a turtle!

But wait, there's more! For the low, low price of $9,999.99, you can even use one of our handy prompts when you tag someone. You could even pick one with a Random Number Generator to help decide which prompt to go with!
  1. Haggling Over Something in the Marketplace!
Maybe someone else saw the exact same shiny thing you did at the exact same moment! However shall this be resolved? Remember: blood is extremely hard to scrub off of turtle shell!

  2. Dramatic Chase Sequence!
You're running away from something! It could be anything, from a rampaging kirin to a gaggle of overly enthusiastic children! One way or another, you can't stop, and much like a katamari ball, you feel obligated to grab everyone in your path along the way to keep them out of danger! Or perhaps you're more the sort to try and knock them into it as a distraction...?

  3. Where there's a will, there's a...?
The Life and Dreaming Planes have been merged, and sometimes what starts out as wishful thinking becomes lured into reality. That slick new motorcycle or pile of kingly treasure you were just daydreaming about? Surprise! It's just appeared in front of you. Though, it may only stay for a short while before it disappears again, so make it count. Hopefully you're not the type to daydream about terrible things befalling people you don't like...

  4. Let's play cops and robbers!
Local law enforcement is handled by the Keeliai Police Department, an organization of both Foreigners and kedan dedicated to keeping the peace in the turtle... and they're about to make a raid on a large, illegal gambling ring! Are you going to collar the nearest bad guy, or are you one of the high rollers now looking to make a quick escape? Or a bookie who's now getting booked downtown?

  5. Wait... you want my what now?!
The kedan are a curious folk, and the Foreigners are entertainment in conveniently arriving packages, especially when they come along with unique items that the kedan might not have seen before. Maybe it's your cellphone... or maybe it's your knickers! How badly do you want to keep your stuff from some overeager native shapeshifters who want to buy, bribe, or burglarize it right off your person?

  6. Sea prunes, get your sea prunes right here!
Life in Keeliai can take a little getting used to: the chickens have scales, the cows have feathers, and the fruits come in more colour and pattern combinations than your average tye-dye shirt. Not to mention that meal you just ordered from the food vendor? Has arrived on the plate, and you're pretty sure you just saw it move.

  7. Everybody needs a little darkness...
The Great Enemy may have been defeated over two years ago, and people are even willing to speak Malicant's name aloud now, but there remains a taint in the city never fully purged. Those who consider Malicant a dark god whose end was unjust are the cultists of Keeliai, and they aren't always so easy to identify as one might think. Sometimes their presence is felt in the growing urge to give into one's darker instincts, especially in such a foreign place...

  8. Illicit substances, anyone?
Every city has its vices, and Keeliai is no different. Perhaps you actively sought it out, or perhaps an opportunistic dealer saw you as a potential customer needing a free sample, but you're now in possession of a packet of Lucid, an emotion-enhancing drug. Interested in finding out what happens when you crush that colourful crystal and ingest it?

  9. Incoming!
Tu Vishan's latest landfall stop has brought an unwelcome problem to its residents: enormous, toothy creatures who look more like pterosaurs than most people are comfortable with! With a twenty-foot wingspan, these aren't exactly harmless local wildlife, and they have a nasty habit of swooping down on targets both Foreigner and kedan! How are you going to fend them off, or help someone who might have been injured by the latest dive bombing??

(Please note: This scenario isn't applicable to becoming game canon if you choose to app your character, as an alien pterosaur attack is a major event.)

  10. WILDCARD!
Go nuts. Suddenly your character is fighting dragons! Good God, they've found the Millennium Falcon drifting in the ocean! Do you really feel the uncontrollable urge to polish every paving stone in the Earth Sector? Anything goes!

[Fai is simultaneously grateful for the extra time to pull himself together and not quite so thrilled about having to be alone with the contents of his head. Some of the information from the last several hours is a blessing--the knowledge that he's not the monster he's spent half of his life believing he was. It's going to take some time to really let that sink in, but every time his mind skips back around to that fact it's with a bone-deep sense of relief.

The rest....

By the time the sound of the hotel room door filters through to the bathroom, Fai is up and out of the tub, wrapped in the bathrobe Kurogane left for him. His face is scrubbed clean, his eye doesn't look quite as red from crying as it did ten minutes ago, and his hair is still damp and loose around his shoulders. With one last look in the mirror to make sure he doesn't look like a complete trainwreck (verdict: 25% trainwreck; he can work with that) he pushes his way out through the bathroom door and into the bedroom.

And he doesn't know what to say. What do you say after something like that? Especially when the life-altering events of the last day were months ago for Kurogane?

Well, that's his answer. You don't say anything about it, because Kurogane's already been there. No point in re-hashing the past for him, right?

Fai pads across the room on bare feet to examine the clothes Kurogane's laid out for him, not exactly smiling but not looking horribly out of sorts either.]

Not bad. I think you may have even guessed my size right, Kuro-pu.

[Things are different here, Syaoran and Mokona aren't around to keep the mage company even if they're all just sitting around in silence. His own errands could have waited but they both know just how well the ninja can see right through the mage's facades. Having that one person just on the other side of the door while he tries to deal with his emotions is not always the best idea. It gives him at least a little bit of time alone because chances are they'll be sticking close most of the time.

When Fai exits the bathroom, Kurogane turns to look the mage over. Not looking for any traces of blood but at the overall emotional state of the other man. Evidence of crying, a hint of a real expression even though it's not a happy one. All-in-all, Fai's looked worse.

He's looked better too. Real smiles that came after the events of Celes and not looking as though he's lost nearly everything he ever cared about in one fell swoop.

Kurogane crosses the room and presses his cup of tea into Fai's hands, not giving the other man much choice but to take it or spill it on himself. Then reaches for a towel and drops it over the mage's head, using it to help dry some of that damp hair with gentle hands.]

It's not a guess - I remember. We've gotten new clothes in nearly every world we've been to.

[Yes, but you remembered. Another tally on the count of things Fai isn't saying aloud.

He manages to wrap his long fingers around the teacup Kurogane pushes at him before it spills on his bathrobe, and he's so busy focusing on the tea that he doesn't realize what Kurogane's doing with the towel until it's already on his head.

Fai freezes. Suddenly he's back in Shura, those hellish months without the kids, fighting for a cause that wasn't theirs and unable to understand a word the other said. Kurogane had dried his hair like this, back then, although it had been shorter at the time. He hasn't done it since. Four months in Infinity, barely speaking to each other. Fai keeping Kurogane at an angry distance--broken only by the need for blood, of course.

Speaking of which, he's going to need that too. Maybe not just yet, though.

After a moment or two to let the shock of Kurogane drying his hair settle, the tension slowly leaks back out of Fai's posture and he sips at the tea in his hands.]

Is there anything from the future I should know? Since there's no telling how long we'll be here....

[He keeps his voice deceptively level, almost light, as if he could be asking about anything from the future. A new hairstyle. A particularly interesting world. In truth, it's Kurogane drying his hair that has him wondering--has this closeness become common for them again? Has something changed?]

[It's not something one forgets considering how often they have to get clothes. They're still traveling so there's still a need to blend in.

This though, this act is not exactly something he does a lot even now that they're on friendly terms again. In Shura they only had actions to express themselves because the language barrier had failed between them. Right now it's a symbol of a time when they didn't need words to communicate. This is his way of telling the other man that they don't have to talk about anything right now.

However it is also one of the few ways Kurogane knows how to take care other people. He isn't the sort of person who wraps his arms around them and hold them close in a hug of comfort. Touching others is not something he does much of but this is one thing he can do.

Especially being the one to initiate contact. Kurogane can carry any single one of them, he can catch them if they fall and barely struggle when others touch him but isn't about to offer much beyond that.

As he continues to dry the long blond hair, he takes notice that the mage is drinking the tea. Good, that is exactly why he handed it over. It's even sweetened beyond how Kurogane takes his beverages or food.]

Fei Wang Reed is dead. [So is the witch, but for now he doesn't say that.] Tomorrow we'll go to the Welcome Center. They have information on this world and can help us get jobs. Maybe some place other than this hotel to stay.

[Kurogane will tell Fai everything, but not today. Maybe not even tomorrow, he'll wait until the mage isn't hurting nearly as much.

Things between the two of them are not the same - not like they were at the start of the journey or even as it was during the time Fai was angry at him.]

[Fai's not complaining. The ninja behind him is comfort enough, especially after that terrifying moment when he'd found himself in this world alone and covered in Kurogane's blood, not knowing whether the other man was alive or dead. Kurogane can be silent as the grave when he wants to be but his presence can fill a room, and not just because of his size or his voice. It feels...

Safe.

The gentleness of Kurogane's hands is something Fai hadn't been expecting when he'd discovered it back in Shura. It's a sharp contrast to the same man who throws a punch at a friend just as easily to tell them they're being stupid. Fai's been on the receiving end of a few of those, too. He much prefers this end of the spectrum, unsurprisingly. Maybe not even simply because one hurts a hell of a lot less than the other.

But that probably has something to do with the reason he'd felt his heart break, seeing Kurogane maimed and still stubbornly working to pull him out of the ruins of Celes. And that, Fai can tell right now, is something he's not going to be able to work through tonight. Not with how badly his hands are suddenly shaking around the teacup.]

Okay.

[His voice seems very small again; he nods, like he has to reinforce the word.]
bigdogninja: (Mysterious Ninja)

[personal profile] bigdogninja 2017-02-08 03:55 am (UTC)(link)
[There is a lot Kurogane can say with this one action, whether it be to comfort or to annoy the one he's doing it too. The last time his hand had been near Fai's head it had been to punish him for saying stupid things. No towel had been in the way then so he could feel how soft the mage's hair was. He's aware that the towel isn't going to instantly dry the other man's hair, especially not at the length it is now.

So when he feels that it's dry enough, he pulls the towel away - tossing it towards the open bathroom door. Then Kurogane takes the teacup back from Fai and sets it down on the nearest hard surface. Both hands rest on the other man's shoulders, steering him gently but also forcefully towards the bed.

This is all a bit strange, Fai letting him do whatever he wants without complaint either verbally or physically. It tells Kurogane just how out of it the mage is and he has to wonder if this is how the man was after Celes, in the time Kurogane had been unconscious and healing. He's never asked seeing as how Fai had others to help him through that time, Syaoran and Mokona, along with Tomoyo and the others from his homeworld. Not to mention seeing to Sakura's body and making deals with the witch.

Perhaps he'd been too preoccupied right away to dwell on the thoughts and events of what happened. All Kurogane is sure of is that the mage was all too ready to hit him when he woke up, things changed between them after that. Partially back to how it was before but yet different.

No matter what comforting is not exactly something Kurogane does a lot of, taking care of someone who needs comfort. A headpat and some words are all it takes most days. Except he's already said all he needed to regarding the events in Celes. Already he's done a lot more than he would do.

So he merely guides Fai to the right side of the double bed (Kurogane hadn't bothered specifying what sort of room they needed) and pushes him down to sit on it.]

Get some rest. [Kurogane moves to the left side after grabbing his sword, sinking down onto it with his back pressing up against the headboard - arms crossing over his chest. A clear sign that he intends to keep watch tonight.]
flowrite: (Default)

[personal profile] flowrite 2017-02-08 04:53 am (UTC)(link)
[Tomorrow. Surely he'll feel less wrung-out tomorrow. Then they can make plans, gather information, and see about finding the kids. Kurogane's right--Syaoran and Mokona will be fine. Hopefully they're together, wherever they are, and it's got to be close because he and Kurogane are still talking like regular people instead of having to revert back to charades the way they've done before. Hell, maybe they're even in the same hotel. Fai feels like that's something Kurogane probably thought to ask about at the front desk, but he honestly can't remember. Tomorrow he'll ask, just to make sure.

He doesn't resist when Kurogane steers him to the bed, though he doesn't immediately collapse onto the pillow either. He sits there on the edge while Kurogane settles himself against the headboard, then very carefully picks the clothes Kurogane bought him off of the bedspread and folds them into a neat little pile.]

No wrinkling my nice new clothes, Kurgie.

[There's a little bit of a smile as he tucks the clothes into the drawer of the bedside table, then burrows under the blankets on his own side of the bed. Fai immediately stuffs his face into the pillow, lying on his stomach. He can't even guess if he'll be too worn out for nightmares tonight, or if they'll be worse than usual, but hiding his face in his pillow to mask them has become something of a habit.]
bigdogninja: (Daddy Senses Are Tingling)

[personal profile] bigdogninja 2017-02-08 05:26 am (UTC)(link)
[He's not entirely sure that Syaoran or Mokona are here, if they are then they might be from different points in time like he and Fai are. Kurogane has already asked around a little bit while he was out running his errands. Informed the individual at the front desk to alert him if anyone came asking about them. If Fai were in any shape to be walking about, he knows they wouldn't be laying about in the hotel right now. Surely if any of them were here they would find their way to the hotel located in the central of the city.

At the complaint he makes a sound that is clearly a sign that he doesn't particularly care if the clothes are wrinkled.]

They're just clothes, idiot.

[Still spoken without malice or real bitternesss of any kind. He doesn't move as Fai settles into the bed, merely checking to make sure the mage is covered up properly. Not a word is spoken about how the other man buries his face from view or if he even believes that Fai will sleep for a single second. After all that happened, Fai just might.]
