TEST DRIVE MEME - TU SHANSHU EDITION!

Itching to try out writing a character? Then rev up your engines, grab your accounts, and slam your way into this meme! Here is a venue for you to try out whatever character there might be tickling your fancy, from fandom to OC, for as few as one and as many as MANY. Seriously, there's no limit.

How do you partake in this fantastic congregation of character testing? Why, by following these simple steps:

→ Comment with the journal of a character you want to test; put their name and canon in the subject line for added sparkles.
→ Tag around with everyone!
→ Profit like you live on a the back of a turtle!
→ Maybe even RESERVE so you CAN live on the back of a turtle!

But wait, there's more! For the low, low price of $9,999.99, you can even use one of our handy prompts when you tag someone. You could even pick one with a Random Number Generator to help decide which prompt to go with!
  1. Haggling Over Something in the Marketplace!
Maybe someone else saw the exact same shiny thing you did at the exact same moment! However shall this be resolved? Remember: blood is extremely hard to scrub off of turtle shell!

  2. Dramatic Chase Sequence!
You're running away from something! It could be anything, from a rampaging kirin to a gaggle of overly enthusiastic children! One way or another, you can't stop, and much like a katamari ball, you feel obligated to grab everyone in your path along the way to keep them out of danger! Or perhaps you're more the sort to try and knock them into it as a distraction...?

  3. Where There's A Will, There's A...?
The Life and Dreaming Planes have been merged, and sometimes what starts out as wishful thinking becomes lured into reality. That slick new motorcycle or pile of kingly treasure you were just daydreaming about? Surprise! It's just appeared in front of you. Though, it may only stay for a short while before it disappears again, so make it count. Hopefully you're not the type to daydream about terrible things befalling people you don't like...

  4. SECRET UNDERCOVER MODE ACTIVATE!
The three major kedan families all have their own agendas, and you've chosen to entangle yourselves with one (or more!) of them. Are you hoping to shift the balance of power? Gain some favours? Perhaps you're on a mission to bring a criminal to justice, or maybe you just want to get the cream of the crop from the black market. Maybe you haven't been hired by them at all, but are using their name for your own goals... as long as no one discovers the lie!

  5. Wait... you want my what now?!
The kedan are a curious folk, and the Foreigners are entertainment in conveniently arriving packages, especially when they come along with unique items that the kedan might not have seen before. Maybe it's your cellphone... or maybe it's your knickers! How badly do you want to keep your stuff from some overeager native shapeshifters who want to buy, bribe, or burglarize it right off your person?

  6. Sea prunes, get your sea prunes right here!
Life in Keeliai can take a little getting used to: the chickens have scales, the cows have feathers, and the fruits come in more colour and pattern combinations than your average tye-dye shirt. Not to mention that meal you just ordered from the food vendor? Has arrived on the plate, and you're pretty sure you just saw it move.

  7. Everybody needs a little darkness...
The Great Enemy may have been defeated over two years ago, and people are even willing to speak Malicant's name aloud now, but there remains a taint in the city never fully purged. Those who consider Malicant a dark god whose end was unjust are the cultists of Keeliai, and they aren't always so easy to identify as one might think. Sometimes their presence is felt in the growing urge to give into one's darker instincts, especially in such a foreign place...

  8. Illicit substances, anyone?
Every city has its vices, and Keeliai is no different. Perhaps you actively sought it out, or perhaps an opportunistic dealer saw you as a potential customer needing a free sample, but you're now in possession of a packet of Lucid, an emotion-enhancing drug. Interested in finding out what happens when you crush that colourful crystal and ingest it?

  9. Incoming!
Tu Vishan's latest landfall stop has brought an unwelcome problem to its residents: enormous, toothy creatures who look more like pterosaurs than most people are comfortable with! With a twenty-foot wingspan, these aren't exactly harmless local wildlife, and they have a nasty habit of swooping down on targets both Foreigner and kedan! How are you going to fend them off, or help someone who might have been injured by the latest dive bombing??

  10. WILDCARD!
Go nuts. Suddenly your character is fighting dragons! Good God, they've found the Millennium Falcon drifting in the ocean! Do you really feel the uncontrollable urge to polish every paving stone in the Earth Sector? Anything goes!

3. and 7. combined, because why not.

Apparently he didn't need to get his sword back from Kedan, seeing as another sword just like it has suddenly appeared in front of him. Well, now that was convenient. But somehow, it... why does it seem like it suddenly whispers to him, confidentially? He was only a human being, but... was that some people meant, by sword being a part of them? His swords were never a part of him. Just weapons, to defend his King with. So maybe he never truly believed in swords. But, now... maybe it's just this strange place, getting to him.

But he suddenly has this desire - desire to check whether he still bleeds like should, if cut. After all, he was dead now, wasn't he? So, shouldn't he check? Shouldn't he make sure?

Tentatively, he makes a shallow cut on his right arm, only after rolling the sleeve up, because he wasn't lazy, but he wasn't a tailor, either.

"Hmm. So, do dead people still bleed? Fascinating. But I suppose that's evidence enough."

6.

"Excuse me, sir.." to the waiter, because politeness never hurts, and when it does, he can deal with it. "Excuse me, but I think something might be slightly strong with this food. It seems to be alive - and I don't mind, truly, but can I kill it? If it's not strictly allowed, I shall give you a tip so that it is."

Peter Bishop | Fringe | I do what I want

[personal profile] consultingbishop 2016-05-19 09:57 am (UTC)(link)
Slouched in the corner of a bar in the Fire sector is a figure. He's new, although you could tell that he was comfortable in the shady, smoky surroundings.

He has a drink in front of him, resting on the table by his hand, a finger tapping idly on the tabletop. In the other hand is a juulan coin, spinning expertly between his fingers. He's watching people. Best way to get to know people is by watching them in bars.

Also the best way to learn to exploit them... Not that Peter was actively looking... But he couldn't help but notice some similarities between these kedan and humans.

He smiles slightly, reaching for his drink. This was definitely... strange. Not the strangest thing he's seen, but... it's up there.

"Is it any good?"

Yukikaze's just curious, as he hasn't yet tried any beverages out, in this place. Besides, talking to strangers was always interesting, unless they were the most boring kind - which rarely happened.

Mirath Rue | D&D OC

[personal profile] barkskin 2016-05-19 10:16 am (UTC)(link)
[1ish..?]

[There's a small crowd of children in the marketplace, a young woman crouched at it's center. Her clothes are a combination of leathers and light material, enough to offer some protection without weighing her down. Atop her head is a silver circlet, simple in design but laced with tiny flowers at it's edges and two small stag horns set that they look a part of her being.

Smile on her face, she motions for the children to gather close around her. Excited silence fills the air and even the sounds of the marketplace dull. A few of the neighbouring vendors even pause in their work to see what she's up to.]

Are we ready then?

[Some reply, others nod. Mirath extends a hand over a patch of empty soil. A moment later, a small vine shoots from the ground, weaving skyward and growing before their eyes. Leaves bloom, buds grow and open to tiny white flowers and in a minute, a small but rather pretty plant has a place in the world. Another springs beside it, following much the same path.

The children react as children do in the face of something magical and Mirath can't help but grin.]

It won't last forever, but then again, very little will. So we have to take care of it while it's there.

[That said, she moves to stand, intent of leaving the kids to their wonder.]

[6]

[Exploring has been going well enough and more than a few of her questions have been answered. However, one very new, very large question has sprung into her mind and even she can't find reason for it.

The food on her plate is wriggling, and not in a 'jelly on a plate wobble' kind of wriggling, but rather a 'hello I'm alive, let's party' kind of deal. She leans back a little, glancing uncertainly from the kedan who presented her with the days 'special' to the food itself.]

I ah, don't mean to be rude... But is it mean to be doing... that?

[turning to her with a calm, polite smile] I don't think so. Mine was apparently alive, too, so I just killed it. I recommend you do the same, miss.

The twirling of the coin stops. Peter had noticed the guy a while ago, but he wasn't in the habit of engaging conversation just yet.

Besides, people usually did of their own accord, and it wasn't as if he was seeming closed. He'd made sure to keep himself as open and neutral as possible.

"Mm..." He lowers the glass, looking at it, a half-smile on his face. "It's... Interesting."
barkskin: (persuasion)

[personal profile] barkskin 2016-05-19 11:23 am (UTC)(link)
[She laughs at that, but she's a little nervous at the whole situation.]

So it's a common occurrence. I wonder if it's just this vendor or if this is a thing in these parts.

[Mirath pokes at her food with her fork. Unsurprisingly, it pokes right back.]
undercherryblossoms: (like I've said above)

[personal profile] undercherryblossoms 2016-05-19 11:32 am (UTC)(link)
"Hmm. Maybe I'll try it myself. Anything else you'd recommend?"

Since he was still new here.

A shrug.

"God knows. Stuff seems to change from bar to bar. Pot luck, man."

[personal profile] undercherryblossoms 2016-05-19 11:34 am (UTC)(link)
[Yukikaze just inclines his head, glancing at her small montrosity, and then pulls one of his two swords out of the sheath] May I help you, miss?

[it'd be no problem after all]

And so far, it's only been this vendor. However, I have not been here on the turtle long enough to tell for certain.

[personal profile] undercherryblossoms 2016-05-19 11:35 am (UTC)(link)

And he says it like it's a good thing to be.

"Oh, uh..." He raises a hand, just remembering something. "Avoid anything that smokes. Just a tip."

Unless you want to be steaming from the ears for about 10 minutes afterwards... And he didn't even know how that was possible.
barkskin: (excellent news!)

[personal profile] barkskin 2016-05-19 11:40 am (UTC)(link)
[For a moment she contemplates the offer. It'd be easier, sure, but as a druid Mirath has an attachment to the natural world. If this thing really is alive, then she's curious as to the how and why it's on her plate right now.

Thus she smiles again, a little more relaxed than the last and shakes her head.]

No, no thank you. If it comes to it, I should be the one to strike the blow. For now I'm... well, content to observe, odd as that may sound.

[Again, Mirath nudges it with the side of her fork, careful not to do any damage. Her 'meal' is a mess of tentacles with a gelatinous starfish at its center.]

I mean really, have you ever seen anything like it?

"Thank you for your advice, mister, I shall do so."

He shan't. Smoking drinks? Sounds fascinating. But to one who doesn't know him, and isn't one to read much into people, unless that guy is, Yukikaze, with his servant politness training, may sound perfectly sincere.
undercherryblossoms: (like I've said above)

[personal profile] undercherryblossoms 2016-05-19 11:46 am (UTC)(link)
[putting his sword back] I suppose observing strange life is more fascinating than killing it on the... spot, is it? Or on a plate, as the case may be.

Very well then. Your pet is all yours, dear miss.

[Since she spared it, of course it's now her pet in his eyes.]
barkskin: (just what i wanted to hear)

[personal profile] barkskin 2016-05-19 11:49 am (UTC)(link)
I'd rather not be hasty. Besides, this little critter might just teach us something.

[A beat.]

As for what, I've no idea. But you never know.

[And don't you mind, Yukikaze. It's a pet in her eyes now too.]

Was yours the same?
undercherryblossoms: (pic#10134561)

[personal profile] undercherryblossoms 2016-05-19 11:55 am (UTC)(link)
Ah, yes, it was similar. But I was a bit hungry, sorry about that. Maybe next time, I can spare one and we can see whether they breed. If they don't, then clearly they are some part of this place's 'magic.'

[yeah, he's completely serious in that offer. Why not?]

Connal Felwin | D&D OC

[personal profile] wyldlifecontrol 2016-05-19 12:01 pm (UTC)(link)
[2 + 9?]

[Sometimes Connal wishes he took a little more after his parents. Both were great hunters and experts with the bow. As he runs through the streets with a giant winged lizard chasing him, Connal can't help but think a bow would be very useful right now. Instead the only thing he's carrying are two small children. Both of them hurl insults at the flying monster while Connal tries to rush them to safety.

If his hands were free maybe he could cast a spell. That means dropping one of the kids though, which is definitely out of the question.]

After the Underdark I'm going to real mad if this is the thing that kills me!

[10]

[While speaking to people might be a skill he's lacking in, speaking to animals is another thing entirely. Besides when you end up in a strange new place with strange new animals how can you not start chatting them up?

After spotting one of the beasts of burden within in the city, Connal's eyes light up. He approaches the multi-horned bull-like beast, gives a quick motion with his hand, and immediately begins speaking with it. Except the noises coming out of his mouth aren't words. It sounds like he's mooing at the creature. Even stranger is the fact it's actually responding to him.

None of this might be so bad if he weren't doing it during midday, in the middle of the street, with its owner watching the whole thing in obvious discomfort.]

barkskin: (they did what?)

[personal profile] barkskin 2016-05-19 12:07 pm (UTC)(link)
It's a magic I'm trying to work out.

[As for his suggestion though, Mirath can't help but grin. She leans back from the table, arms spread wide in triumph.]

We shall build an army of... whatever these things are, and take over the turtle!

[Almost immediately she looks a little sheepish.]

...Alright perhaps I shouldn't say that so loud. I've heard some of the history of his place.
undercherryblossoms: (I'll check whose fanart it is soon)

[personal profile] undercherryblossoms 2016-05-19 12:12 pm (UTC)(link)
[History! He was trying to find some in the library, but hasn't had much success now]

[The veneer of polite friendly almost indifference disperses, as he leans closer to her, his eyes shining with passionate interest about any and all 'history'.]

What have you heard, dear miss? What had happened on our Turtle?

[even 'dear' sounds slightly more genuine, now, on his lips]

barkskin: (warning)

[personal profile] barkskin 2016-05-19 12:27 pm (UTC)(link)
[2+9=ADVENTURE]

[His hands may be tied, but hers sure aren't. Hell, she's not even sure who it is that's running. He's familiar, but it wouldn't be the first time she's mistaken someone for someone else. What Mirath does know is that a man and some kids are being chased by a big winged beastie and that's enough for her to step in and help.

Where others run away, Mirath runs towards them, coming in from the side and lifting her arms as she goes. A beam of light appears from above the creature, starting small then blasting down in a pillar. In an instant the lizard bursts into an unnatural flame.

Take 2d10 radiant damage, you jerk.

It's not enough to kill it, but hopefully it'll stall things enough to help.]
barkskin: (come again?)

[personal profile] barkskin 2016-05-19 12:31 pm (UTC)(link)
[She can't help but note the sudden interest. Mirath plays it cool and keeps her tone light.]

Mirath, please. My name is Mirath.

[Formalities are still weird to her. Then again, so is being around this many people.]

And, I haven't heard as much as I'd like. Only that there was a war some time ago with a villain that none would name. Rumor says this is the whole reason why outsiders were brought here in the first place. To fight a war.

[She shrugs.]

I stress though, this is rumor more than not. None of this can be classed as fact.
wyldlifecontrol: (u srs bro?)

[personal profile] wyldlifecontrol 2016-05-19 12:39 pm (UTC)(link)
[ADVENTURE TIME]

[Connal throws a look behind him just in time to see the lizard burst into flame. Certainly not what Connal expects but he's not about to voice a complaint.

While the thing reels in pain Connal sets the children onto the street, giving them a small push in the other direction.]

Go! Get inside and stay safe!

[The children nod and run, throwing one last insult at the creature before they do. Good kids. Meanwhile Connal turns to face the still reeling creature, drawing his warhammer and ethereal sword.

...and then he sees her.]

...Mirath?
barkskin: (sir will you please get off the ceiling)

[personal profile] barkskin 2016-05-19 12:44 pm (UTC)(link)
[She's focused on the fight at hand, though vaguely aware that the man has stopped and the children are on their way to safety. Staff in hand, Mirath prepares to strike again, only to freeze the moment her name is voiced.

Oh. Hey. Yep, she knows you alright.]

By the gods... Connal?

[Any further conversation is cut short by the lizard screeching and charging her way.]

[eyes still shining with interest, so it may be apparent that before, even when he smiled to her, it didn't really reach his eyes, not truly. Now his smile is soft, barely visibly, but genuine as can be.] I see. Still, there's always a bit of truth in rumours.

A villain whom noone would name? He must be annoyed at such lack of recognition, poor thing. I will ask him for his name when I meet him, otherwise the suspense would kill me more cruelly than the villain would.

[it's hard to tell whether he's joking, serious, or inbetween, but either way, there seems to be something very sincere in his words.]
