GUYS GUYS I REMEMBERED THE BIMONTHLY MEME IN THE CORRECT MONTH LOOK AT ME GO

hey! it's time for a cr with me meme! Welcome to the spring edition of the CR Meme! Now that we've gotten settled into the new storyline, it's time to start heating things up in the big turtle city. For players who've joined us since our last meme, these ~bimonthly memes are our opportunity to help establish an idea of what sort of CR you're looking for your characters. Because of this, we do ask that you be as specific as you can when replying to this meme! 'Our characters should team up to moon Tu Yunxu' is more useful than 'omg tag me.' We have two helpful sections titled "Current Status" for a summary of what your character's been up to, and "CR Goals" for the plotting and discussion of gaps in your character's CR spectrum that you would like to fill! We've also got a section for indicating what kinds of CR you're especially looking for, as well as types of threads you're not interested in. ALSO this month, we have a special addition called "4th Wall Plans", in case you want to talk about or be enabled into some ideas you have for the upcoming April 4th wall event. CHARACTER: Professor Robert Callaghan; aka Yokai
CANON: Big Hero 6
PERSONALITY: What a nice man. Super smart professor. Much concerned about the state of the turtle and lack of basic technologies.
...except he's still holding on to a murderous anger against another, and while he's kind of come off the murderhigh, there's still a keg of fury that's just waiting to be given reason to go off once again.

CURRENT STATUS: I've basically said that he's got himself up in the Metal Sector at this point, running a not-business which is half-trade, half-labor; mostly, the slow accumulation of supplies through improving local kedan things, and taking most of the saved materials as payment. (Ex; you don't need nearly that much copper in those pipes, this other thing will work just fine AND be more efficient. he'll take the copper, thanks.)
CR GOALS: MORE FRIENDS. Give this guy a support net, he needs it so badly. Give him people TO care about; alternatively, give him people to PRETEND he cares about, only to ignore once he gets high off his own anger once again.

SCENE-DOS: Everything, basically??
SCENE-DON'TS: The only thing I'm avoiding is him being 'outed' as a villain this early. I'd also prefer to avoid anyone else learning about the microbots, for now; he mostly keeps them hidden in his apartment, so I don't think that'll be a problem.

forreal I love this CR so far and I want more Callaghan in my life. We should plot out some science playdates and also ways for them to interact outside of the lab.

I was just bringing up in another thread how I really want Cal to start looking in to a way to get the kedan populace outside of the metalworkers involved in tech upgrades, or otherwise improving their lives; open-air lectures/etc about subjects that they can apply in their lives, not things like history which is a bit more...uh, Foreigner-specific. Maybe Tony can help him organize this, if only behind the scenes? IDK if he has a non-competitive clause (so to speak) with whatsherface...

Dude what if they start like, a free community college/makerspace kind of deal? That would be awesome. He doesn't currently have any non-competitive agreement with Zanru, so he could totally participate (and it would be interesting to see how that played out politically). Tony probably wouldn't come up with the idea on his own since he's been more focused on trying to work his way back in to SI, but if Callaghan suggested it he'd be all for it. Using technology to help people! That's totally his jam!

He got a few things when they made landfall. Cal is totally planning on not-interrogating him re; what he plans to do with them, and may try to condition that he gets to help with whatever Stork's working on - in the name of knowledge/learning, etc.

My one trouble is I would love an excuse for China to have an actual thing she needs/wants Callaghan to do for her and I have no idea what that would be right now? And when she doesn't have a particular drive she isn't always social.

I love our potential but am bad at plot and am very sorry.

I think he might start asking her a bit more about magic; I have some thoughts on my own [ex; is it possible for magic to duplicate an item? what about shield/protecting, how does that work?]. We can probably end up with her learning about the microbots, too, and him going on about what they're capable of [hence the previous thoughts].

Or we can go with China directly; what would she want? Callaghan can essentially 'offer' knowledge, and a degree of power if/when he gets his school up and running; that's something I still need to work on OOCly, but the gist of it is that he's going to try and set up some sort of open lecture/learning/etc for the kedan and basically anyone who wants to go, for *useful* things like science and technology as opposed to history which may or may not apply to all people. (But if people wanted to run their own history classes he wouldn't stop them, it just wouldn't be *his* focus.)

Oooooh. She'd be pleased he wanted to learn, I think, and willing to teach esp if he can be okay with it being magic. And oh man learning about the microbots. Color me on board. That was something you wanted to mostly not have shown about, also, right?

Mostly what China likes is having knowledge and power, and while she has those in and of herself, the influence and reputation part are things she kind of misses. That's a pretty excellent plan for Callaghan, though, and if I figure anything more concrete out rest assured I'll let you know soon's possible

And yeah, he wanted to, but it's one of those things that I OOCly think China could keep secret; and Cal, well, could/would be convinced he could trust her with only so much effort.

What if she ended up getting a position that the school-thing? Considering it works and that anyone could learn it, I don't see why he'd be against it being taught...
