HELLO CHELONAUTS! It's been a while since we've had a game-wide HMD post, so here's the first one of our new arc!

How's My Driving?
While each and every character must have an HMD page available, we offer a game-wide HMD once every calendar quarter. This is an opportunity to get together and discuss IC interpretations and portrayals in a respectful, beneficial fashion. In a nutshell, it's a chance to see how we're doing in the grand scheme of things.

There are a few ground rules to cover off before we can start:

• Participation in the quarterly HMD is 100% optional.
  
• Be respectful, anon or not. It's a lot easier to give and receive crit if all parties are making it a discussion of it rather than an argument.
  
• IP logging is off and anonymous commenting is on. You can offer crit signed in if you like, but the option's there.
  
• We ask that each concrit provided consist of one positive and one constructive bit of feedback. Bring up something that you like about that player, and in the same comment provide something that you feel they could work on. This is to help round out the feedback and provide a better experience all around.

Focus: Gene's been in-game for a year and a half in real time, and he's grown and changed a lot since I initially brought him in. I'm a little worried - does he still scan as the same character, for those I've been playing him against from the beginning?

Character Name: Jackie Ma
Canon: Sleeping Dogs
User Name: jinzhong
Focus: I feel like I'm losing his voice. I'm overdue for a canon review. But I'm not quite sure where to go with him or if people even like playing against him. IDK. /shrug

Re: people enjoying playing off of Jackie: I don't have much CR with him when it comes to Skulduggery, but it's been so much fun playing Yunxu off of him. Jackie is adorable, and your passion for both him and the game he's from really shines through both on plurk and in your RP. It's that passion more than canon familiarity which makes people want to play with your characters.

And also a note on Gene: there are very few people who can take a canon character, put them through a year plus of game development, and still have the character ring completely true to a game-blind fan of the canon. From what little I've seen of IMAA, you manage it.

I am glad! I think I might get a little too verbose with both him and Gene sometimes - as you know, I trend towards sesquipedalian loquaciousness and sometimes I really have to think how a Hong Kong triad enforcer or a self-taught high-school dropout would talk and think.

And honestly - I'm tickled pink that you think Gene still rings true even with all of his ridiculous and extreme in-game character development. I hope to continue in that vein.

(Also - Jackie and Skul need CR. Jackie could notice that the car Skul is polishing looks an awful lot like his boss's old Bentley... :V)

The joy of being canon-blind to both of your characters means I really only get to talk about the joy of RPing with you. So of course I will be gentle!

Gene - jeez, where do I start? I laughed a lot in the thread between Sokka, Gene, and Tony. And you were a significant part of that. Granted part of those were the silly subject lines we were putting in our posts, but it was also some genuinely good writing and interactions that we were making. I didn't see Gene at the beginning of this, nor do I know if he's still the same character, but he is an enjoyable character. That is fun for me!

Jackie - I know even less about, and I've had even less CR (the primary thing of note is with Genis). So I can say a lot less about him. However, he is very different from Gene, so I definitely don't think you've got any cross-bleed going on between characters. Adopt Genis please. Big brother-sama!

Well, I do love making jokes at Gene's expense having Gene deadpan about stupid things, so I'm glad other people enjoy it as much as I do. Honestly, I'm sometimes afraid I get a little too self-indulgent on that front! And I am glad you find him enjoyable. He is sometimes a huge asshole and quite often a mopey douche, and I'm wary of spending too much time in mopey douchedom.

And that's good to know, especially since I have a Type (men of Chinese descent with gang connections and perfect hair, anyone?), so I'm glad they don't seem to cross-bleed. I actually picked up Jackie because I wanted someone different from Gene! And yes this will happen!
