negl I think a lot of this (now, after all these months here he's spent alone and with time to think) stems for a deep-seated bitterness that he think Aang died too soon and his own vision of equality died with him, and he is taking that out on Korra at this point

Amon is always going to look down at Korra, the Avatar as someone who let down her society (and him, personally; he is not happy about Aang letting Yakone escape if you haven't noticed) and stumbled into victory, but is very aware the whole turtle is watching this very tenuous animosity between them

While I don't think they're going to be best friends I circumstance have changed for if not the better than at least a chance for them to see eye to eye. Maybe after they beat the crap out of each other

So the bad news is your mentor and boss is a psychopath, but a psychopath geared to a very specific niche of people that you aren't a part of so you're perfectly safe in his company?? if that last part is even good news

in light of criticism (javert) amon thinks marius is a bright kid who cares about what he believes in and is someone whose own ideals mirror his own albeit still wildly different and far and away more idealistic/wide-eyed. Marius is basically the protégé he never knew he wanted, or needed, but he's useful to have around the clinic when he can't be bothered with legal work and it actually is nice to have someone to he can pass down all these neat Equalist tricks of the trade without being persecuted for it

he's such a good kid it's going to be really awkward and weird when he meets korra
