Aisha:

HEADCANON TIME. So Aisha was the only child of a vicious warlord in a time of war in Afghanistan and the dude canonically kept a shitload of essentially harem girls. Aisha was pretty much a warrior from day one - as young as six years old she was out slitting the throats of injured enemy soldiers with the sharp edges of soup can lids but I doubt she was ever actually allowed to hang out with the guys in the aftermath so I figure that she probably stayed with her father's concubines for the most part.

Basically: although she doesn't care to have any charm or poise or elegance herself, it's a trait she still respects and admires in other women. She's a lot more at ease around women than she is with men, and Inara is just the sort of person she doesn't mind letting her guard down around. Of course this means that if anyone ever hurt Inara or even slandered her Aisha would probably rip their beating heart out of their chest and feed it to them. (Not actually excessive. At one point a girl she smuggled into America is being sold into slavery and she proceeds to murder an entire room of people to rescue her oops)

She thinks she's a swell lady and wants to look out for her as much as possible. This might also mean vetting her 'client' list and/or interrogating them, whoops. Sorry, Inara, you've got an attack tiger on your hands.

BRANDON:

Brandon has no idea what even fucking happened in their first convo? SHE MANAGED TO MAKE HIM FEEL GUILTY AND TERRIBLE WITHOUT EVER ACTUALLY SAYING ANYTHING TO MAKE HIM FEEL GUILTY OR TERRIBLE and he was just like 'WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON HERE IS SHE A WIZARD?' But she's charming and he likes that and he wants her to like him too because he's got terrible, terrible issues with maternal-is authority figures and reasons. :(

And he's really worried about the Companion thing because he doesn't get why anyone would want to do that line of work without someone else forcing them into it, which ties back into the mother thing. But basically he's projecting elements of his own past into Inara's life and he's freaking out because he doesn't want people taking advantage of her. I think they need to meet up in person and have a talk about it so he can actually understand, otherwise he's just going to be upset about it forever. :(
