GAME ITINERARY | JULY 2017

Hello chelonauts, here is a fresh new itinerary post! Previous months can be found under this tag.

Here's what we've got lined up for July 2017:

Weather

As July rolls in, so do the hot, muggy days. Skies are hazy and the sun seems like it has a personal vendetta, with temperatures easily getting over 100°F. The only respite is the occasional thunderstorm, but those only seem to add to the constant, stifling humidity rather than drive it off.

These storms also bring about some truly magnificent and colorful thunderheads. Although they look imposing, they rarely cause more damage than the average storm.

Kedan/Foreigner Relations

Relations are still on the rocks given the tepid Foreigner response to the attacks - however later in the month, Kyde, in his own special way will try to bring the Foreigners and kedan closer together with… mixed results.

Still, the overall animosity has abated for the time being with relations staying on the chilly side (though not chilly enough to beat the summer heat).

Local Events

High Crimes Take Two : Electric Boogaloo

During the last two weeks of the month, word will go out - quietly - about a follow-up to the prior High Crimes discussion in the Courtyard of Public Opinion. The representatives of each guild have let the Foreigners’ opinions percolate, and are ready to take a second stab at creating a uniform code of justice for the city. The issues addressed of particular note to the Foreigners will include the consequences of murder, establishing the Foreigners Guild as the representative power for their kind, and the punishments decided upon for certain high crimes, among other things.

Log Note: High Crimes 2: Crime Harder will have a mod-posted event log.

HERE THERE BE DRAGONS

In the second week of July, the sudden appearance of great, scaly ghost lizards provides both amusement and irritation for the city at large. On the one hand, there are those kedan that find the dragons fascinating, and their arrival has those involved in Kyde's little festival all abuzz with new material to work with. On the other, the rest of the kedan are getting exasperated with Foreigners causing trouble, and would really prefer they keep themselves in better check.

Log Note: Here There Be Dragons will not have a mod-posted event log.

FOR-CON : A festival of fools

There’s a different sort of cult in Keeliai. Well, not so much a cult as a loose affiliation of kedan who are… unusually fond of Foreigners. No, not like that (well, maybe some). But they’ve watched the goings-on in Keeliai with a fascination bordering on morbid obsession, and now they are emerging into the light to celebrate their favourite Foreigners!

Foreigner Festival will be held in the middle of the month. While the premise might seem a bit odd, there is a genuine desire for cultural exchange and to facilitate better relations between kedan and Foreigners. There’s just the problem that Kyde tends to take a good idea and… well. You’ll see.

Log Note: [Foreigner Festival] will have a mod-posted event log.

NPCs & Families

There's no overt contention between the Guild leaders this month, as they all seem to be either focused on their tasks at hand, or in something of a "grin and bear it" mode. Either way, it means a potentially smooth month ahead.

BAN OM
New adherents to the Ban Om philosophy continue to grow across the city-- there hasn't been any official numbering done on things yet, but some estimates are saying that up to 10% of Keeliai's population could be now affiliated in one way or another with the Ban Om. The announcement of the tram line extension is met with evident cheer and appreciation, and there are some preliminary surveys done in other Sectors for potential smaller "satellite" temples, in addition to the large main temple in the Fire district.

BOARD OF SCIENCES
After the attack, the Board has allocated significant funds to the research into an antidote to Red Mist, though no significant breakthroughs will be made. The Healer’s Guild will be seeing considerable support and solidarity from the board as well.

When things have calmed down a bit more, Kyde will be dividing his duties between research, guild work, and preparations for a small festival to help raise spirits and a sense of community among the Kedan and Foreigners.

MERCHANTS GUILD
In an effort to boost commerce around the city, the Merchants Guild introduces several incentives that all residents (kedan or Foreigner) can take advantage of. These are on a trial basis for the moment, but among them are buy-back programs for household content -- furniture, home improvement, that sort of thing. The Guild will subsidize part of the cost of upgrades of that sort. They will also be offering credits toward rent payments, particularly if the lodging has multiple groups or families, although there are smaller stipends for other situations. At large, the Merchants Guild have the discretion to offer whatever they believe will provide the best outcome, so those who don't qualify for any of the advertised incentives can speak with a Guild representative personally.

SERVICE WORKERS ASSOCIATION
Much of the attention of the Association remains on righting the ship, assisting with recovery and rebuilding. All members are given special encouragement to keep working and to do so regularly, to help bring businesses back into normal operations. The Association has also hired some of the gang members on contract to patrol open markets throughout the month, provided they agree to follow the laws and regulations laid out by the Guild of Justice and Arbitration and not press any undue authority.

In a rare display, Rosyn is actually rolling up her sleeves this month. No one is quite sure what's possessed the old woman to get into the thick of things, but she's seen several times at the food kitchen that was attacked, the Dara Deis shelter, and the Healers Guild with at least five of her employees from the Shaded Lantern at each instance. If anyone asks, she'll just say she's doing her part.

CRAFTS AND TRADES COALITION
While the CTC is more than happy to help with the Foreigner convention festival in general, Usayi is having absolutely nothing to do with it. He personally sees it as dividing rather than uniting, focusing on differences rather than the unifying similarities between them, and stays well clear.

Fortunately he divides his personal from his professional fairly clearly, and while there are a few among the tradespeople who feel similarly, most of them are more than happy to take a chance to make a few juulan. Or more than a few juulan.

GUILD OF JUSTICE AND ARBITRATION
The Guild’s head is finally beginning to rise above the sea of red tape it’s been under ever since the Dust attacks several months ago, but not all is well in the house of law. Rather than devoting much of her energy to the reconstruction, Eliyen’s been feverishly working on her Guild’s position paper for the Courtyard meeting - but she can be found out there, transformed, and helping if she’s frustrated or annoyed enough. She can be approached in her office, but for the love of all the gods, don’t barge in unless you want to be thrown out on your ear. If you make an appointment, she’ll see you. Otherwise, well...you’d better chance her wrath.

NATURAL RESOURCES GUILD
While most people are finding complaint with the hot, muggy weather, the fields are absolutely loving it. Some crops don't take as well to the high heat, but others thrive, particularly a purple-red colored fruit that resembles tomatoes. The workers outside the city walls do have to be careful not to get dehydrated, but overall they're pleased that the weather is working in their favor. The greenhouses are turned over to seeding and sprouting operations primarily, as they can get too hot for long term growth.

As with last month, rarely are members of the Guild seen working on recovery and rebuilding efforts, since all hands are needed for food production. Those focusing on water management are, however, commonly seen consulting with engineers in an effort to better secure the general supply from future attacks. Cheym spends most of his time away from the city, and when he is around is usually staving off complaints that his Guild should be helping more with the aftermath of the attacks.

COLLEGIATE SOCIETY
While tensions between the kedan and Foreigners are tenuously at rest, and with the Foreigner festival taking point, Professor Bralon has organized several evenings throughout the month where kedan can come for a "meet and greet", town hall style at the College, with various Foreigners who want to participate. Most of the questions will be about their home worlds, past experiences there or in Keeliai, and a general assortment of miscellany nosiness. Professor Bralon will be present at all of these meeting nights, keeping a close eye on things to make sure there isn't anyone attending just to stir up trouble.

HEALERS GUILD
Still overworked, but getting better. The healers for the most part have similar constitutions, and often need to be reminded to take breaks. Please. Take your healers for a walk. They don't have quite the work they did in the direct aftermath of last month's attacks, but they also have fewer volunteers-- there are always more directly after a catastrophe, but as the cleanup and long-term healing wears on, less so.

There will be some healers on standby at any major public events this month, as a preventative measure.

Economy

The caution and pessimism of June hasn't completely abated, but things are improving. There's a certain defiance in the way shopkeepers, particularly in the textile market that was the focus of the first attack on May 23. Recovery is slow but steady, and bolstered in part by the way the kedan seem to be banding together.

With the big thunderstorms, many bars are drawing in more prospective customers and making a bit of a tidy profit by setting out free samples to have a nice, refreshing drink while watching the spectacle.

Crime

The incidence of crime remains low this month, with thefts remaining the most common. The heat may be discouraging illicit activity, to an extent. After the cultist attacks at the end of May, many gang members turned their attention to city recovery, and a good handful remain officially contracted for private security in protection of the Iron Circle. The longer they remain in these positions, the more their joking about going legit seems to carry weight, but their loyalties to the gang run deep. With the political changes recently, it seems that other groups may be following the tides, too.

Technology

Technological development slowly begins to pick up again as recovery moves forward. The retrofits of the tram lines to effectively limit speeds and make derailments less likely are completed by mid-month, but engineers will continue looking for ways to improve on this. New kinds of building reinforcements are also being tested to better secure construction projects, and some of these may be proposed as required standards for future work.

By the third week of July, it's announced that plans are being drawn up to construct a huge tram line extension from the city to the turtle's head, as there's been increased interest in going there, especially with the growing popularity of the Ban Om. There's significant opportunity for employment ahead when the project gets under way.

So that's our outline for the month of July! If you have any questions about these happenings, please use the Questions comment below. Otherwise, this post is free space for monthly OOC plotting.
