Here's what we've got lined up for April 2017:
Weather
While the weather stays cool, it's only that: cool. Gone is the biting cold of the last several months. The temperatures are warm enough for growing, and the steady drizzle of the first two weeks of April provides the plants water in a much kinder form than previous snows. In the second half of the month the sun begins to break through more often, and there are some days of genuine warmth to enjoy.
Kedan/Foreigner Relations
Seeing Foreigners help with the hydroponics efforts has ensured that relations don't change for the worse; it's good to see them taking a significant, tangible interest in the city they've become a part of. There is still, however, the sense that some kedan are interested in the Foreigners for more than just passing, mundane reasons.
If asked about the out-of-the-blue contacts made by various NPCs over the past month, some kedan will remark that they've received similar contacts, although most of theirs were in person -- the network, while not excluding kedan from using it, isn't the best way to reach them in a lot of cases. Some will remark that their stores and shops have received an uptick in certain kinds of patronage, namely the generous kind. Others however, perhaps 50% of those questioned, will seem to be unaware of any sort of focused contact campaign, and this is the first they're hearing about it.

Local Events
GROW, GROW, GROW YOUR BOAT...
After the expansion of the greenhouses and rollout of hydroponics facilities last month, there has been a renewed sense of hope and enthusiasm in the city that perishable food will once again be plentiful, and that in the future there will be more wiggle room in the event of severe weather. Initial reports from the greenhouse and hydroponics keepers are good: there were a few minor hiccups in getting things in place, but overall the process is running smoothly.
That isn't to say there aren't still some challenges, however. An unexpectedly persistent run of unlucky incidents such as broken tools, mixed up chemicals and the occasional accident seem to plague the project. While many of these incidents could be attributed to simple errors and minor incompetence -- everyone has been under a fair bit of stress lately -- some kedan are blaming this run of bad luck on spirits. Considering the Dreaming has affected people's luck before, it may very well be some external force, although many will remark that this just feels different. Unluckier! And just wrong. They’re certainly holding on to the lucky bibiru feet when several lucky spirit houses have been found smashed.
Log Note: Grow, Grow, Grow will have a mod-posted event log.

DUN DUN DUN... SABOTAGE!
Midmonth however, things will take a sudden nosedive as the hydroponics and greenhouse efforts are routed by an attack using Dust. Claims of Malicant's return point to the cultists, but the more immediate threats are the abrupt loss of new food sources.
Log Note: The Dust sabotage has an event log posted HERE.

NPCs & Families
In addition to the slew of unprompted contacts last month, many of the notable figures in the city have been acting, well, cagey around each other. Some are trying to hide it... some aren't! Mentioning it to any of them directly however, doesn't seem to produce any answers, or answers that are perhaps only half-truths.
KUHIE & KIUEU
KYDE
MILYN
ODYNI
ROSYN
USAYI
KUHIE & KIUEU
Things are going quite rosily for the twins, as the ongoing spate of bad luck combined with the fresh produce shortages both have kedan thinking that paying Tu Vishan some extra dues might not go amiss. The Ban Om temple is often quite busy, especially in the evenings (many members attend after the days' work) and they've started inquiring about additional leaders to guide the meditation groups to the turtle's head; both kedan and Foreigners are welcome to apply, although whoever does will be vetted by the pair to ensure they're up to the task.
KYDE
Kyde is busier than ever this month - something is definitely up and while he will make time to socialize, he spends most of his off-hours in his office or meeting with other prominent Kedan.
Despite this busy schedule, he seems more energetic and optimistic than usual. He’ll be hanging around the Hydroponics project, talking excitedly with the engineers and helping out with more chemistry-related matters.

MILYN
The Healer has returned from her sabbatical in the old village and back in business at her apothecary and clinic in the Water Sector -- although it hardly seemed like time off, since she had been hard at work while she was out there! The kedan who'd volunteered for her project have also returned to the city, and frankly they seem as baffled about what the whole thing was about as any of the Foreigners.
If asked about it, they'll just relay the same as before: Milyn wanted them to go about as normal a daily routine as they could in that location, and other than some daily checkups, pretty much left them alone. They've been requested to follow up with the Healer for additional checkups in weekly intervals for the rest of the month, although most just shrug as if to say, 'hey free juulan is free juulan'.

ODYNI
Odyni is much harder to track down this month, although some minor sleuthing is all it takes to find out that she's in the midst of what's basically Merchant's exams. She's pushed forward her schedule to shorten her apprenticeship status at the Guild. Although she will take appointments with Foreigners if they request one for something they need, she's likely to be short of temper and patience both: she's got a lot of work to do, and she'd always hoped Aroyan would have been here to see this with her.
ROSYN
After several weeks of being rather irritable with just about anyone but Foreigners, Rosyn is back to her usual self. She does seem quite busy, but there's an ease to the way she spends her time that suggests it's a good kind of busy. The madame spends more time outside the Shaded Lantern than previous months as well, organizing meetings with business owners and their employees.
Despite having a full schedule, however, she will make time for any Foreigners who desire a private meeting, although she may be surrounded by a small flock of assistants dealing with paperwork and planning arrangements who are well-practiced in pretending to be deaf to anything but the task at hand.

USAYI
Usayi is constantly doing something, and it's giving him less time in his shop than he'd like, which is, surprise of surprises, making him grumpier. He's stopped seeking out Foreigners for the moment, though for certain people he'll make an effort not to be curt if they approach him. He can be seen in a number of meetings with other kedan, and while some are the expected public figures, the rest are mostly tradespeople: other tailors, smiths, construction specialists, and so on.
Economy
The economy will see mild improvements for the most part. The arrival of spring and the Hydroponics and Greenhouses have made people more optimistic about there being a more permanent solution to food shortages. However, it's not enough for anything drastic, and food still is harder to come by than it has been before-- simply easier than during the cold of winter.
Crime
Oddly enough, it’s the gangs who have stepped up this month to help with food shortages, lending their aid to those in need. Or at least, those Kedan in need. They very pointedly have been ignoring Foreigners, though they may occasionally bump into someone roughly just to make a point.
Some Foreigners may find food or valuables going missing mysteriously, perhaps to turn up in the market as a lucky windfall for a Kedan merchant down on their luck (though they’ll deny who knowledge of any benefactor and yes, you still have to pay if you want it back).
Also there is strange incidents of the houses for lucky spirits turning up vandalized. The Kedan find this horrifying and believe it may be associated with the run of bad luck the Hydroponics project is having. Hopefully the cheeky vandals are caught soon.

Technology
All eyes are on the new agricultural facilities this month, though any new developments seem to be focused on tweaking the new systems for maximum efficiency. Considering how little it would take to tip the scale back into the realm of "uh oh" with regards to food supplies, there is also a drive for Foreigners to supply any type of agricultural knowledge unique to their worlds. Inventors will be especially attentive in trying to either replicate or reverse engineer whatever suggestions are provided, and contributing Foreigners will definitely be on the receiving end of some appropriate gratitude of they can help out this way. Despite this seeming to be the month of Murphy’s Law where every little thing that can go wrong does, the engineers make a great deal of progress.

STATE OF THE SHELL
We are presently working on a new State of the Shell post detailing some process and in-character changes, as well as an introduction to our mod team! We will have it posted in the next couple of days, so please keep an eye out for it as there will be important in-character and out-of-character changes that need to be considered by players.
