Sitting nearby, Elizabeth is startled by the way a stranger springs to his feet and praises his meal. It had taken the young woman several attempts to get used to the ordering system here (in that there had been a few visits where her meal had, despite her best efforts, not been palatable) but this is a new reaction.

"I believe that's more effusive praise than they might be used to from Foreigners here," she said, smiling at him.
