TEST DRIVE MEME - TU SHANSHU EDITION!

Itching to try out writing a character? Then rev up your engines, grab your accounts, and slam your way into this meme! Here is a venue for you to try out whatever character there might be tickling your fancy, from fandom to OC, for as few as one and as many as MANY. Seriously, there's no limit.

How do you partake in this fantastic congregation of character testing? Why, by following these simple steps:

→ Comment with the journal of a character you want to test; put their name and canon in the subject line for added sparkles.
→ Tag around with everyone!
→ Profit like you live on a the back of a turtle!
→ Maybe even RESERVE so you CAN live on the back of a turtle!

But wait, there's more! For the low, low price of $9,999.99, you can even use one of our handy prompts when you tag someone. You could even pick one with a Random Number Generator to help decide which prompt to go with!
  1. Haggling Over Something in the Marketplace!
Maybe someone else saw the exact same shiny thing you did at the exact same moment! However shall this be resolved? Remember: blood is extremely hard to scrub off of turtle shell!

  2. Dramatic Chase Sequence!
You're running away from something! It could be anything, from a rampaging kirin to a gaggle of overly enthusiastic children! One way or another, you can't stop, and much like a katamari ball, you feel obligated to grab everyone in your path along the way to keep them out of danger! Or perhaps you're more the sort to try and knock them into it as a distraction...?

  3. Where there's a will, there's a...?
The Life and Dreaming Planes have been merged, and sometimes what starts out as wishful thinking becomes lured into reality. That slick new motorcycle or pile of kingly treasure you were just daydreaming about? Surprise! It's just appeared in front of you. Though, it may only stay for a short while before it disappears again, so make it count. Hopefully you're not the type to daydream about terrible things befalling people you don't like...

  4. Let's play cops and robbers!
Local law enforcement is handled by the Keeliai Police Department, an organization of both Foreigners and kedan dedicated to keeping the peace in the turtle... and they're about to make a raid on a large, illegal gambling ring! Are you going to collar the nearest bad guy, or are you one of the high rollers now looking to make a quick escape? Or a bookie who's now getting booked downtown?

  5. Wait... you want my what now?!
The kedan are a curious folk, and the Foreigners are entertainment in conveniently arriving packages, especially when they come along with unique items that the kedan might not have seen before. Maybe it's your cellphone... or maybe it's your knickers! How badly do you want to keep your stuff from some overeager native shapeshifters who want to buy, bribe, or burglarize it right off your person?

  6. Sea prunes, get your sea prunes right here!
Life in Keeliai can take a little getting used to: the chickens have scales, the cows have feathers, and the fruits come in more colour and pattern combinations than your average tye-dye shirt. Not to mention that meal you just ordered from the food vendor? Has arrived on the plate, and you're pretty sure you just saw it move.

  7. Everybody needs a little darkness...
The Great Enemy may have been defeated over two years ago, and people are even willing to speak Malicant's name aloud now, but there remains a taint in the city never fully purged. Those who consider Malicant a dark god whose end was unjust are the cultists of Keeliai, and they aren't always so easy to identify as one might think. Sometimes their presence is felt in the growing urge to give into one's darker instincts, especially in such a foreign place...

  8. Illicit substances, anyone?
Every city has its vices, and Keeliai is no different. Perhaps you actively sought it out, or perhaps an opportunistic dealer saw you as a potential customer needing a free sample, but you're now in possession of a packet of Lucid, an emotion-enhancing drug. Interested in finding out what happens when you crush that colourful crystal and ingest it?

  9. Incoming!
Tu Vishan's latest landfall stop has brought an unwelcome problem to its residents: enormous, toothy creatures who look more like pterosaurs than most people are comfortable with! With a twenty-foot wingspan, these aren't exactly harmless local wildlife, and they have a nasty habit of swooping down on targets both Foreigner and kedan! How are you going to fend them off, or help someone who might have been injured by the latest dive bombing??

(Please note: This scenario isn't applicable to becoming game canon if you choose to app your character, as an alien pterosaur attack is a major event.)

  10. WILDCARD!
Go nuts. Suddenly your character is fighting dragons! Good God, they've found the Millennium Falcon drifting in the ocean! Do you really feel the uncontrollable urge to polish every paving stone in the Earth Sector? Anything goes!

"If I could, I wouldn't be lurking in dark alleyways asking suspect questions, would I?" Devin remarked wryly, raising an eyebrow. "I don't do this for a laugh."

He nodded at her reply, making a note that there were other supernatural beings where this woman came from at the least, such that she wasn't startled by or put off by him. Lucky him.

"I see. You're familiar enough, in any case." The Brit glanced away for a moment, just observing their surroundings. "This is a problem that needs solving, and not because I'm selfish. Do you have any suggestions?"

Devin would either have to find someone who could give him blood, for pay or otherwise, or he'd have to find someone to kill him.

Narsus - Heroic Legend of Arslan

[personal profile] karde 2016-12-03 11:45 pm (UTC)(link)
5.
Narsus had arrived with little. Himself, a weapon, his clothes, and a little kit of art supplies that he kept hidden up his sleeve. Not literally, although Daryun would believe that Narsus' sleeves might allow for such concealment, but close on his person. Those supplies weren't much - brushes for the most part, and little canisters of basic pigments - but they were effective for travel.

He had managed to find abandoned wood to use as a canvas, against all odds, and a little purchase had found him a good, slick substance to mix the pigmentation with. A good perch on the street allowed for him to paint, and for some time, Narsus found himself absorbed in his art. The city sounds, the stares, the novelness of it all, nothing filtered in. There was only himself, his brush, and the paint.

Cityscapes like this were new to him. But it was a pleasant surprise that when Narsus pulled his head out of his art bubble, there were people asking what he might want for such a fine piece. It was with a smile that Narsus asked, "Well, what's the usual price for these things?" while noting that he'd need to brag about this to Daryun eventually. When was the last time any of their associates were this eager about one of Narsus' paintings?

9.
The shadow was what got Narsus' attention. It was far bigger than anything he had ever seen before, and that garnered a glance up. seeing what was causing the shadow, he could simply stare. The creature was unlike anything he had seen in Pars, or read about in any books, or imagined in any dream. A giant winged reptile, and even from his pitiful vantage point, there was no mistaking the circling behavior as anything but predatory.

Another flap of wings, and Narsus could see that the thing - he needed a name for it, he couldn't just call it a thing - start to go for the center of the street. His own sword was out in a flash, heavy boots thundering down on the pavement, fighting against the flow of the crowd. There was no question that this thing was dangerous, and no doubt in his mind that it should not be allowed to rejoin the air.

"I didn't think you did," she replied, her voice airy and light, "You'll find that there are many different kinds of people here, human and inhuman."

She shifted again, "Well, I can't have you running rampant and bloodthirsty through the city." She hummed as she thought, "Maybe someone in one of the brothels would be willing?" She shook her head, "The madams are usually quite protective though, so you'd have to clear it with them."

She looked up, "Other than that, you might find a foreigner that would allow you to feed on them, but that's a long shot."

"Your concern is touching," Devin said flatly. The woman really had no idea how destructive the vampire would be if he got to that point. "Soliciting volunteers will likely require someone to vouch for me."

The statement had an unspoken question in it. They have no reason to trust each other; they don't even know each other's names. But he did need help, and he's not about to let his ego be the reason he slaughtered innocents.

"You make it sound as though you're in a position of authority to keep me from 'running rampant'," he added leadingly.

Valdis didn't need to know how destructive he could get, knowing he could be any amount of destructive was enough to be wary.

"You mistake duty for concern."

Though she and her fellows could probably take on anything he might throw at them, it really did come down to preventing the problem in the first place. She smiled as his attempt to draw out more information from her.

"I only have the authority that I am given and I doubt that vouching for you would be a good idea. I don't know you, you might kill someone by accident and then where would I be?"

She shook her head, "It truly is a dilemma isn't it?" A short pause, "You haven't ever had weird side effects from drinking blood, have you?"

Erskine's been back in Keeliai for a month now, and while he's still not entirely comfortable with traipsing around the city on his own--he strongly suspects he never will be--sometimes it's a necessity. He can't hide in the Hotel anymore, the way he used to when Anton was there. There's no one left to put up with him being the wallflower he'd so desperately like to be again.

He no longer feels the need to wear the hooded jacket he used to use as a shield out in public, however. If the kedan or the Foreigners remember the fire incident, no one seems eager to dredge up those memories. No one seems to feel the need to point fingers anymore. So Erskine's walking through the city in his suit--the one borrowed from Skulduggery so long ago--with his hands in his pockets and his head down, trying to make it back to the shelter before the sun goes down properly.

Which is when he spots the stranger. Erskine can't claim to know all of the Foreigners in the city, if he ever did, but he remembers the way Foreigners look when they're new to Keeliai. They stick out like sore thumbs, mostly. He hasn't heard any of the exchange, he just knows the newcomer looks a bit lost.

"New the city?" he asks, once he's close enough that he doesn't have to raise his voice much to be heard over the crowd.

"You mistake sarcasm for authenticity," the vampire countered evenly, smirking at her.

Devin considered, briefly how much information to divulge to the woman; his enemies are not here, as far as he knows, and if she has never met another vampire it's likely that he won't be pursuing his mission while he's stranded here. A certain degree of candor could be beneficial to him, loath as Devin is to rely on other people.

"I have not," he answered honestly. "Nor have I ever killed anyone accidentally."

The implication being that he has killed people on purpose.

Devin looks over at the man, studying him for a moment or two. Like everyone else he's encountered in the city, this man has a heartbeat - it's a bit odd, finding himself apparently alone in that way, but also refreshing.

The vampire appreciates the stranger's appearance, as well, noting in particular the golden eyes. Interesting.

"Guilty as charged," Devin answers. "Although it pains me that it's so obvious."

Aly gives this guy a quite epic side-eye. "Mm-hmm...that doesn't sound suspicious at all." She looks a little eccentric herself - a drab olive cloak pinned with a brooch resembling a Japanese maple leaf over what are obviously modern Earth street clothes.

"Lucky for you, bruh, I'm a little eccentric myself. But if you're looking to get off, you'd have more luck in the Fire Sector. This homie don't play that." She shifts, and underneath the cloak a copper-headed mace is revealed.

Hashbrown, no filter.
redlightgreenlight: (disbelief)

[personal profile] redlightgreenlight 2016-12-04 07:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Valdis didn't sense a lie, but according to legend, vampires had very long lives, so he could just be as well practiced as she was.

"You haven't killed on purpose, but you still harbor death," she sighed, tipping her head, "Though I suppose that could just be how your species feels."

He had killed, she knew that for certain, but just how much she couldn't tell, his personal death reek too strong to even estimate. How annoying.

"Despite you claim, I can't vouch for you among the Kedan. They can't come back if they die."
annihilist: (Come on now)

[personal profile] annihilist 2016-12-04 07:13 pm (UTC)(link)
This is what he gets for being ambiguous. He studies the young woman's appearance; her clothes appear modern like his own, albeit in an odd contrast with the cloak. The vampire has seen stranger things. He himself is wearing very nondescript clothing that allows for movement, all tending towards darker colors.

"I'm looking for nothing of the sort," Devin replies, eyebrows raised in something like amusement. He spots the mace, and seems entirely unconcerned by it. "But duly noted, for future reference. My needs are somewhat more... nutritionally eccentric, you might say," he adds, grinning and exposing sharp, elongated canines.
annihilist: (Not happy)

[personal profile] annihilist 2016-12-04 07:22 pm (UTC)(link)
He's only a hundred twenty three years old. But he is good at lying, it's true. Devin narrowed his eyes; based on that reply she must have extrasensory abilities.

"That may be the case. Lacking in a pulse does tend to make one appear less than alive," he replied. Devin wasn't going to get very far without getting over his own complete distaste for sharing any personal details; if he doesn't solve this problem he's going to hurt people, and he doesn't want that. That was more important than preserving some secrecy in a situation so thoroughly out of his comfort zone.

"But in the spirit of full disclosure, what you sense may have something to do with my occupation." And possibly with the dormant fragment of the Angel of Death he carried, but that he wasn't about to admit to. "I hunt other vampires; we don't belong. We are predators on the human race, and our place is in darkness. I can assure you I have no desire to kill a single person in this world - save myself, should I become a danger to others."
redlightgreenlight: (Don't mess with me)

[personal profile] redlightgreenlight 2016-12-04 07:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Again, there seemed to be no lie. As for their place belonging in darkness and preying on humans, she knew that feeling all too well. Blood. Souls. One always killed, but the other didn't. Some Vampires in stories had control like that, but she couldn't risk the Kedan, not when she was supposed to protect them. Though if what he said was true, then not having blood meant a rampage that would most certainly kill others. She rolled her eyes, less at his words than at the unfortunate fact that all this had fallen into her lap.

"Fine," she replied, her tone even, "Follow me."

She began to weave her way through the crowd, checking every once in awhile to see if he was keeping up.
wolfishflame: (Oh honey // hollow_art)

[personal profile] wolfishflame 2016-12-04 07:37 pm (UTC)(link)
She raises her eyebrows right back, in something like less-than-amusement. She knows when she's being mocked. She, too, seems unconcerned by the canine teeth.

"Mmkay. No sale, I don't want to sparkle in the daytime. I bet the Healers' Guild could hook you up, though. People bleed all the time over there."
annihilist: (I see)

[personal profile] annihilist 2016-12-04 07:39 pm (UTC)(link)
An unwilling helper was still a helper, in this case. She didn't seem pleased by his presence nor by his requirements, and Devin couldn't blame her. He's not particularly pleased by either of those things himself. His monstrous nature was not something he'll ever deny.

Devin followed the woman with ease, drifting through the crowd without so much as touching another person - one of the few traits he liked about being a vampire was the physical grace it provided.

"If it eases your mind any," he began after a minute or two, "I prefer not to consume from the vein. It's safer, by far, and less unpleasant for all parties involved."
annihilist: (Considering)

[personal profile] annihilist 2016-12-04 07:50 pm (UTC)(link)
"It would take far more than a bite to turn you, young lady, and I wouldn't consent to turn you in the first place," Devin returns easily. "If I did for some heinous reason, you wouldn't be capable of walking in the sunlight to sparkle."

Daywalker was beyond rare, as a trait.

"I prefer not to bite people at all, as it happens. Sometimes options are limited." Like now. He's not about to admit that this whole situation makes him extremely uncomfortable. "Healer's may not take kindly to my presence, but the suggestion is appreciated. Where is the Guild located?"
redlightgreenlight: (expressionless)

[personal profile] redlightgreenlight 2016-12-04 07:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Valdis might have growled that that information might have been better put near the beginning of his request, but she chose to continue walking.

"That does help, yes."

She moved just as gracefully as he did, the people noticing her passing more than they used to. Another unfortunate fact of her existence. She led him to the Hotel, which luckily still maintained the magical doors.

"For future, does the freshness matter?"

Since it wasn't exactly something they stored.
annihilist: (Narrowed eyes)

[personal profile] annihilist 2016-12-04 08:59 pm (UTC)(link)
He was not very good at sharing. Talking about his vampiric nature was difficult, seeing as he hated it so much.

"I'll make a note to lead with that one next time," he said by way of a half-hearted joke. Devin had been apprised of the Hotel's existence, but hadn't thoroughly investigated it yet.

"So long as it's not rancid, it'll do," he answered. "And my requirements are not drastic. A pint would suffice for a week or two." So on the order of the average donation a human would make to a blood bank. Not enough to kill them by far. "My name is Devin, by the way, as it seems we haven't introduced ourselves yet."
redlightgreenlight: (cocky)

[personal profile] redlightgreenlight 2016-12-04 09:07 pm (UTC)(link)
"Please do," Valdis replied, tone light enough to show amusement. She led the way into the kitchen, "I'm sure we can find a donor if a pint every two weeks is enough."

"For now, we'll just have to use mine and hope you don't go insane," She opened a cupboard, pulling out a glass, then paused, "Unless you have a better idea?"

She wasn't human, but hopefully that wouldn't make a major difference and a little blood loss wouldn't affect her in the slightest.
annihilist: (Off into the distance)

[personal profile] annihilist 2016-12-04 09:19 pm (UTC)(link)
While it had appeared the woman would help, Devin had not quite been expecting that she would offer herself. In retrospect, it made a certain amount of logical sense, but he still had not thought it would be that easy.

He followed, looking faintly bemused as he entered the kitchen. "If there's a significant risk that your blood will have adverse effects on me, I've time enough to find someone else," he replied. Devin already knew she wasn't an average human, and perhaps wasn't human at all. "The buffer would be appreciated, however. You've my permission to remove my head if I become unmanageable," he offered.

The lack of a returned introduction is noted. He was just trying to be polite, but he understood the desire for secrecy.
redlightgreenlight: (slight smile 2)

[personal profile] redlightgreenlight 2016-12-04 09:29 pm (UTC)(link)
"As if I needed your permission," she replied, her smiled edged with more amusement. "But I recover faster than most people, so a pint of blood is nothing to me and I don't think it will harm you in any case."

Valdis rummaged in a drawer for a knife, a small one that she could easily use to keep the wound open. She placed the cup in the sink to reduce cleanup if she spilled. Then she slipped the blade into her wrist, twisting it a bit to open the wound wider and holding it in place to prevent the wound from closing.

"My name is Valdis, by the way," She said, almost casually as she let her blood flow into the glass.
annihilist: (Smirk)

[personal profile] annihilist 2016-12-04 09:51 pm (UTC)(link)
"You'd be too late to ask for forgiveness if I were decapitated," he pointed out, sly. "And some people would rather try to save me than immediately execute me. You're willing to do what is necessary to minimize risk."

Devin didn't have a death wish, technically speaking. He just didn't value his life all that highly, when it came to protect other people. He watched her impassively as she drew the knife across her wrist. As evidence of his control, Devin relaxed against a table, absent any sign of predatory instincts despite the smell of blood filling his nostrils.

"It's a pleasure to meet you, Valdis." And it was, in a way. She seemed reasonable enough; attractive to look at and willing to assist. He was wary, though - someone not so unlike her had nearly destroyed him in an attempt to end the world. "Remind me to buy you a drink in exchange, some time."
purered: (Over the edge)

[personal profile] purered 2016-12-04 10:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Klaus had come into the kitchen to fix himself a pot of coffee - he had a long night of paperwork ahead of him and prospects of that seemed far less bleak with a comforting mug of hot coffee and a scone or two.

The coppery smell of blood stung his nose the moment he opened the door, and he dropped the mug, the piece of gimcrackery shattering loudly.

He knew what he was seeing, but he couldn't entirely process it - that Valdis was giving the blood to Devin was inconsequential. All he could focus on was that there was a vampire - a Blood Breed, here.

There was no angry snarl like one might expect from someone acting on pure instinct. Every muscle in his body tensed and Klaus lunged forward, his sleeve tearing as the the mechanism drew out his knuckledusters. There was nothing in Klaus's eyes except old fear and bitter cold fury.

His blood welled up at the center jewel of the dusters, forming into a sharp, conical spearhead as he drew his fist back. He wasn't going for Devin's head - his aim was fixed right on his heart.
redlightgreenlight: (oh?)

[personal profile] redlightgreenlight 2016-12-04 10:43 pm (UTC)(link)
"Who said I'd even need or want forgiveness?" She replied, watching his demeanor carefully. The fact that she'd brought him to the hotel wasn't accidental. Some of the wards might still be in place, if violence broke out, she'd quickly have backup. "I'm willing to kill to protect those I care about."

She glanced down to check how full the glass was, sighed and twisted the blade deeper so the blood continued to flow. The sound of the door opening drew her attention, despite knowing who it was. The look on Klaus' face told her quite a bit about what would happen. And, well, it wouldn't be good...for Devin. Oops.

"Klaus," She said sharply, putting the knife down, "It's ok."

"Neat. 'Cause I'm not too keen." There's an amused glint in her eye. "You could say I'm sort of a werewolf. Besides, you wouldn't want to eat me, I'm all tough and gamy."

She grins. "Psh, they get all sorts here. Water Sector. Come on, I'll walk with you. Y'know, never met an actual blood-drinking vampire before. Just the energy kind. And they suuuuuck." She snickers.
