TEST DRIVE MEME - TU SHANSHU EDITION!

Itching to try out writing a character? Then rev up your engines, grab your accounts, and slam your way into this meme! Here is a venue for you to try out whatever character there might be tickling your fancy, from fandom to OC, for as few as one and as many as MANY. Seriously, there's no limit.

How do you partake in this fantastic congregation of character testing? Why, by following these simple steps:

→ Comment with the journal of a character you want to test; put their name and canon in the subject line for added sparkles.
→ Tag around with everyone!
→ Profit like you live on a the back of a turtle!
→ Maybe even RESERVE so you CAN live on the back of a turtle!

But wait, there's more! For the low, low price of $9,999.99, you can even use one of our handy prompts when you tag someone. You could even pick one with a Random Number Generator to help decide which prompt to go with!
  1. Haggling Over Something in the Marketplace!
Maybe someone else saw the exact same shiny thing you did at the exact same moment! However shall this be resolved? Remember: blood is extremely hard to scrub off of turtle shell!

  2. Dramatic Chase Sequence!
You're running away from something! It could be anything, from a rampaging kirin to a gaggle of overly enthusiastic children! One way or another, you can't stop, and much like a katamari ball, you feel obligated to grab everyone in your path along the way to keep them out of danger! Or perhaps you're more the sort to try and knock them into it as a distraction...?

  3. Where there's a will, there's a...?
The Life and Dreaming Planes have been merged, and sometimes what starts out as wishful thinking becomes lured into reality. That slick new motorcycle or pile of kingly treasure you were just daydreaming about? Surprise! It's just appeared in front of you. Though, it may only stay for a short while before it disappears again, so make it count. Hopefully you're not the type to daydream about terrible things befalling people you don't like...

  4. Let's play cops and robbers!
Local law enforcement is handled by the Keeliai Police Department, an organization of both Foreigners and kedan dedicated to keeping the peace in the turtle... and they're about to make a raid on a large, illegal gambling ring! Are you going to collar the nearest bad guy, or are you one of the high rollers now looking to make a quick escape? Or a bookie who's now getting booked downtown?

  5. Wait... you want my what now?!
The kedan are a curious folk, and the Foreigners are entertainment in conveniently arriving packages, especially when they come along with unique items that the kedan might not have seen before. Maybe it's your cellphone... or maybe it's your knickers! How badly do you want to keep your stuff from some overeager native shapeshifters who want to buy, bribe, or burglarize it right off your person?

  6. Sea prunes, get your sea prunes right here!
Life in Keeliai can take a little getting used to: the chickens have scales, the cows have feathers, and the fruits come in more colour and pattern combinations than your average tye-dye shirt. Not to mention that meal you just ordered from the food vendor? Has arrived on the plate, and you're pretty sure you just saw it move.

  7. Everybody needs a little darkness...
The Great Enemy may have been defeated over two years ago, and people are even willing to speak Malicant's name aloud now, but there remains a taint in the city never fully purged. Those who consider Malicant a dark god whose end was unjust are the cultists of Keeliai, and they aren't always so easy to identify as one might think. Sometimes their presence is felt in the growing urge to give into one's darker instincts, especially in such a foreign place...

  8. Illicit substances, anyone?
Every city has its vices, and Keeliai is no different. Perhaps you actively sought it out, or perhaps an opportunistic dealer saw you as a potential customer needing a free sample, but you're now in possession of a packet of Lucid, an emotion-enhancing drug. Interested in finding out what happens when you crush that colourful crystal and ingest it?

  9. Incoming!
Tu Vishan's latest landfall stop has brought an unwelcome problem to its residents: enormous, toothy creatures who look more like pterosaurs than most people are comfortable with! With a twenty-foot wingspan, these aren't exactly harmless local wildlife, and they have a nasty habit of swooping down on targets both Foreigner and kedan! How are you going to fend them off, or help someone who might have been injured by the latest dive bombing??

(Please note: This scenario isn't applicable to becoming game canon if you choose to app your character, as an alien pterosaur attack is a major event.)

  10. WILDCARD!
Go nuts. Suddenly your character is fighting dragons! Good God, they've found the Millennium Falcon drifting in the ocean! Do you really feel the uncontrollable urge to polish every paving stone in the Earth Sector? Anything goes!

He was about to say no, of course not, but he remembered the way he'd been guided and manipulated to remain in Mount Massive, from the power cut to being sedated to being taunted with the glow of the exit only to drop down into the sub-basement, all because of Father Martin. All of his apocalyptic imagery, the Gospel of Sand, his God the Walrider...

He'd called Miles his Apostle, his Paul. And a lot of the Biblical apostles became martyrs. Paul included.

"...I might have been intended to be," he said, feeling uneasy.

Yorda gave a small, sad nod of understanding.

"People should never be made into sacrifices," she said, her usually airy and distant tone suddenly firm and certain.

"You are safe now here. This city, the people are kind. They will not kill you."

oh no i hadn't even intended for The Suspicion to hit but. There It Is

[personal profile] upshore 2016-11-02 04:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Miles nodded absently when she told him that people should never be made into sacrifices. Too true. Had the whole thing been a setup? Had someone from Murkoff, knowing his utter hatred for the corporation, lured him there with the promise of the story of a lifetime? Sacri-fucking-ficial lamb. Lucky for him there'd been a breakout. Which he'd never have thought, given that everyone in the damn building had tried to kill him.

Then he blinked. "That was a kind of weird thing to say about sacrifices. What made you think of that?"

Reporter instinct or his well-deserved right to be paranoid? YOU DECIDE.
shroudofgray: (Curious)

[personal profile] shroudofgray 2016-11-02 04:28 pm (UTC)(link)
She looked up at him with her pale eyes, slightly puzzled by this question.

"That is why humans kill each other, yes?"

The tone didn't quite fit the question - it was mild, more like she was asking about a perplexing math problem than the darker facets of human nature.

"That is why the horned children were brought to the castle. I cannot think of any other reason why so many would be killed."

Ha ha ha what the fuck.

This kid was asking about this like it was totally normal, barely confused about it. Also, horned children? What???

...he was trying not to think about the glowy heal-y thing. Nope. Nope. Not even going there. Magic. Isn't. Real. Even the Walrider, which everyone had thought was supernatural, was just crazy-ass Nazi science controlled by a kid in a coma.

"...no. Not usually. Rarely, actually." He wasn't even going to go into the Aztecs and the rest of that. That might just confuse her. "Usually it's for land. Or religion. Or self-preservation. Or just because they can." And sometimes, it's because you're there.

Yorda still looked perplexed, but also utterly horrified by this revelation.

"But... that does not make sense. Why?"

As much as she hated it, she could understand why the horned children were brought to the castle. It wasn't like the people bringing them had much choice - one child or the whole village. Painful and horrible as it was to consider, she could understand. But to kill for land? Or simply because they could? What was the sense in that?

SORRY YORDA, HE HATES TO BE THE ONE TO BREAK IT TO YOU BUT HUMANS ARE SHIT

[personal profile] upshore 2016-11-02 05:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Well...he hadn't been expecting to have this conversation when he'd woken up this morning.

But he hadn't expected to be down two fingers when he'd woken up that morning. C'est la vie.

He sighed. "Kid, if we knew that, we'd be a lot better off."
shroudofgray: (Take my hand)

THAT IS A DIRTY LIE HUMANS ARE WONDERFUL AND SHE LOVES THEM

[personal profile] shroudofgray 2016-11-02 05:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Yorda was very quiet for a long time.

It was hard to tell whether or not she was actually processing what Miles had said. She seemed to have a permanent expression of mild bewilderment.

"I should show you where the doctors are, so they can help you." She said at last, her voice quiet.
upshore: (Smile // lulamae)

he is cynic boy

[personal profile] upshore 2016-11-02 05:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Miles' expression turned apologetic. He hadn't meant to crush a kid's hopes and dreams with the revelation that humans are garbage to a man.

Himself included, if he's gonna be honest with himself. There's blood on his hands. Well. Figuratively and literally.

"...yeah," he said. And then, after a moment, "Sorry."
shroudofgray: (Intrigued)

[personal profile] shroudofgray 2016-11-03 08:21 am (UTC)(link)
There it was again, that mildly puzzled and just slightly concerned stare.

Yorda really needed to be introduced to the wonderful world of blinking.

"I do not understand - did you do something wrong?" She asked as she led him back out to the main road, headed towards the clinic.

"I think I made the conversation a little too heavy for this early in the morning." He'd seen some shit. He'd seen some shit even before going to Mount Massive. Seeing people's heads blown off, seeing people die of cholera in the name of profit-motivated 'charity'...that was enough to make anyone a cynic. He shouldn't have inflicted it on her, too.

Even if he had good reason to be cynical.

"What's your name, anyway?" He hadn't processed that she'd asked him earlier.
shroudofgray: (Wat dis)

[personal profile] shroudofgray 2016-11-06 07:53 pm (UTC)(link)
"Many of the thoughts and words people carry here are heavy," Yorda said matter-of-factly.

"It is not something to be sorry for. I am Yorda."

She gave him another one of her curious and somewhat scrutinizing stares. "What is it that you are called?"
upshore: (Smile // lulamae)

[personal profile] upshore 2016-11-06 11:28 pm (UTC)(link)
"I'm Miles." He tried a shaky smile at her. He didn't have much to smile about, and she probably knew that. But he'd try all the same.

If he could ever be happy - or even calm - again, it'd be a goddamned miracle.
shroudofgray: (Smile like the sun)

[personal profile] shroudofgray 2016-11-06 11:39 pm (UTC)(link)
"That is a nice thing to be called," Yorda mused. She could understand a face that had forgotten how to smile properly. Up until Ico had freed her, Yorda hadn't had much to smile about either.

"Are you called that because you have traveled a long way?"

God only knows what Yorda was hearing through the translation magic that was in place.
upshore: (The People's Eyebrow // lulamae)

[personal profile] upshore 2016-11-06 11:54 pm (UTC)(link)
"Um...no." Well, he had, but the two were independent of each other. "It was given to me when I was born." He paused. "Is that...not how names work where you come from?"

And down, down, down the rabbit hole we go.
shroudofgray: (Concern)

[personal profile] shroudofgray 2016-11-06 11:59 pm (UTC)(link)
There was a moment's pause from Yorda as her small smile faded and she hung her head, shoulders slumped, looking morose and a bit sullen. Like this, she seemed much less some strange ethereal creature and more like an actual teenager.

"I do not know," she admitted.
upshore: (:| // lulamae)

[personal profile] upshore 2016-11-07 12:04 am (UTC)(link)
Miles frowned a little bit. "Well, I'd never heard the name Yorda before. It's a nice name." He wasn't going to pry right now. She was already upset-looking.
shroudofgray: (Where does the time go?)

[personal profile] shroudofgray 2016-11-07 12:25 am (UTC)(link)
Yorda seemed relieved when he didn't push. She didn't much like talking about the fact she knew very little about her world or the reason why.

"It is a kind thing to say," she said. "Thank you."

She hesitated for a moment as they rounded a corner. She didn't want to press Miles for information if talking about things was painful to him, but she was curious about other worlds.

"How are people named in your world?"
upshore: (Glance // lulamae)

[personal profile] upshore 2016-11-07 04:24 pm (UTC)(link)
That was kind of a weird question, but then again, pretty much everything she'd said had been weird. He decided to roll with it.

"People's parents decide on their names before they're born, usually," he said. "Their last names are passed on through the families. Mine is Upshur."
