GAME ITINERARY | MAY 2016

Hello chelonauts, here is a fresh new itinerary post! Previous months can be found under this tag.

Please remember that fourth-wall guests have until May 10th to finish tagging fourth-wall threads, even though ICly their characters will have vanished from Keeliai at the end of April. After May 10th, the comms will be cleared of all fourth-wall character journals.

Please also note, there will be no mod-posted Hatal mingle log this month. Players are encouraged to continue using Hatal locations as described here in player-posted logs!

Here's what we've got lined up for May:

Weather

You know what they say: April showers bring May flowers. Unfortunately, since Asti is still docked off the coast of Tavimbi, there were no April showers -- only April frosts. Thus, very few May flowers poke their heads out of the frosty ground.

Basically, it's still cold, many of the kedan are still miserable, and there are still occasional flurries of snow. The persistent weather is starting to have an effect on the weak and elderly, and if Asti isn't woken up or moved somehow very soon, there might even be a death toll. Not everyone is willing to spend most of their time in the heated depths of Hatal, after all.

Kedan/Foreigner Relations

Though relations are still tense, thanks to the lack of apology for claiming Milyn's body without consultation, the time has given most kedan a chance to calm down. They're still a bit cool, especially to the Foreigners known to have been at the scene of the crime, but a few kedan will even come forward to apologise for reacting as though the Foreigners were the cause of Milyn's death.

Still, even those will add pointedly that it wasn't the Foreigners' place to decide how and when Milyn's body should have been interred, and no few will ask about her gravesite so they can pay proper respects.

The kedan who believe there's conspiracy afoot appear to be getting somewhere, too -- they've even hired a place in the College for their forensic work, exchanging knowledge for the premises; several of the kedan frequently seen there are Metalworkers, which lends credence to the fact that Xuiyu is also putting some money in their direction.

These kedan will willingly approach Foreigners who also seem to be investigating, primarily to ask questions; none of them will offer to pool their resources, but may not be adverse to the idea, if asked …

There's also an uplift in kedan going to the Healer's Guild, concerned they've been 'ill'' lately -- their symptoms, as described, include occasional dizziness or visions, but some will confess that these 'visions' include apparently having moved small items around. None of these kedan actually show any signs of virus or other causes of illness.

Local Events

MEISHENG'S DISAPPEARANCE

For the characters involved in Milyn's plot (reference links put together by the lovely Cinna), the month of May will see a further development.

As a reminder, the current state of affairs is something of a stalemate. Yunxu has fingered Meisheng, but no one knows where Meisheng vanished to -- and as the kedan can shapeshift, some Foreigners don't believe the assassin was Meisheng at all, and that Meisheng was simply another victim. Milyn is alive, but hidden in House Iron Dragon with Tony, Gene, and Pepper, where she will remain for the foreseeable future. Apart from the characters who arrived on the scene, no one knows Milyn survived her assassination.

Log Note: Meisheng's disappearance and the fallout from Milyn's 'murder' will not have a mod-posted event log, as there is ongoing OOC coordination to follow up on that; however, within the first week of May, there will be an NPC console post.

THE VISITATION

For the duration of this month, the Foreigners will be regularly visited by a kedanese child, somewhere between six and ten. His appearance will shift with each visitation, except for one defining feature -- his eyes are large and luminous, and sometimes, in dark lights, appear to reflect stars. The Foreigners seem to be the only ones visited by this strange child; any kedan asked about him will have no idea what the Foreigners are talking about. Large, glowing eyes? Are you sure you're not on Lucid?

He will not appear out of nowhere within the Foreigners' view; he'll simply seem to have come up silently while they weren't looking. Whenever he visits, he'll stare at them unblinking, as if concentrating, but not do anything else. He won't respond if they talk to him, and if they try to touch him he'll vanish like a heat-shimmer, with only his eyes lingering like a Cheshire cat's; and when he does, any powered object within three feet will flicker like the power outage not too long ago.

Log Note: The visitation will not have a mod-posted event log.

NPCs & Families

Things are significantly quieter than last month between the Woodsmen and Snakes, but the intermittent public scuffle still leaves most kedan avoiding both groups as a rule. To anyone who asks around, it seems like the only real difference is that the Snakes have finally been told to leave the Woodsmen alone (an order not everyone follows to the letter) -- and as for the Metalworkers, they have concerns of their own.

TU YUNXU

Yunxu's injury from last month seems to have healed completely, though the enigmatic Snake leader is rarely seen out in public this month. Ostensibly it's because he's taking precautions against the mysterious assassin who killed Milyn and then tried to kill him, but if anyone suspects differently, they're keeping it to themselves.

The Snakes are no longer out in full force -- at least while on patrol inside the city. Instead, groups of them are actually heading out into the rural surrounds for days on end, as though searching for something. They give the Woodsmen a wide berth, but otherwise can't be stopped without either a dangerous confrontation or someone speaking to Yunxu personally.

ZANRU/XUIYU

Xuiyu is all but openly declaring that she thinks something is up with the debacle with Milyn. SI is helping to fund the development of kedanese investigative techniques -- done through the College, but still, in coordination with each other.

She almost seems to be challenging whoever attacked Yunxu and Milyn, in fact. This month there will be groups of Metalworkers going around to check technology, especially the consoles and the electrical grid. The electrical grid in particular will be going through an upgrade in response to the power outage. Xuiyu can be seen regularly accompanying one group or another, 'overseeing', though most of the time her supervision doesn't seem necessary.

HEOJIN

As with last month, the Woodsmen are very definitely on the Foreigners' side; they subtly escort the Foreigners places if they're in the vicinity and see them walking alone. Indeed, they seem to be getting more blatant this month, watching groups of Snakes, sometimes while leaning pointedly on their hoes.

Despite their wariness, they remain polite enough, though there are some instances of Woodsmen merchants giving Snakes a hard time.

Heojin's multiple sightings subside as it seems whoever attacked Yunxu has chosen not to act, but it's fairly clear that Heojin is still using his body doubles. Still, any attempt at contact gets back to Heojin eventually, and usually results in a written response being left somewhere the instigator will find it.

MILYN

OOC: Milyn's status is pending due to some plot wrap up, but she is presently at House Spicy Iron Dragon. This section will be updated with a current status as soon as possible.

AROYAN

The Merchant's Guild has been quiet last month, perhaps fearing that they could be perceived as trying to profit from the chaotic circumstances surrounding Milyn's death. Despite this, Aroyan will continue to be open to working with Foreigners who wish to start or finance businesses within the city -- and for existing Foreigner-run operations, may begin courting them with the prospect of investments. A solid working relationship with Hatal, along with their trade representatives agreeing that it should be ongoing even once Tu Vishan departs, has the Guild looking to finance much longer term contracts than they've been able to consider given the previous sporadicity of landfalls.

From time to time, however, Aroyan will seem somewhat frustrated with matters unrelated to the Guild's business, and occasionally can be seen arguing with his eldest daughter when their conversations are caught out in public.

Economy

The economy has a few spikes this month -- certain substances which can be used in investigative techniques are limited, and some substances which can't be, but were being researched for the possibility, are likewise.

Textiles are also at a high price this month, with some vigorous trade going on between Hatal and Keeliai; with the kedan feeling the cold, warm clothes and blankets are a highly sought-after commodity. Sources of burnable warmth are also having shortages, though many substitutes are being found in Hatal, including some forms of cold-forging which emit limited forms of heat.

On the plus side, electricity seems to be a bit cheaper due to the updates the Metalworkers are performing to the electrical grid, apparently with the intent of making it easier to warm people's houses.

Crime

With the Snakes' patrols dwindling, there's a surge in crime this month. It takes a week or so, long enough for the average kedan to notice there are fewer Snakes around than usual; once it starts, however, it increases with all the solid acceleration of a freight train. Robberies, muggings, vandalism, assault -- the list goes on, and victims rarely have anywhere to turn.

The Foreigners, for various reasons, are largely left alone, though if they make themselves into targets they will certainly be targeted.

Technology

As mentioned, the electrical grid will be undergoing an upgrade this month, which does mean a few shortages in localised areas. These will be scheduled and the inhabitants of the areas warned beforehand, so they have the chance to go somewhere warmer while the upgrades are performed.

The consoles, while not being upgraded, will be inspected to ensure the constant cold weather isn't doing them undue harm; in particular the ones the kedan have retro-engineered, which are less durable than the originals, are showing a few minor signs of frostbite. The Metalworkers will take particular note of these and take any reports of such seriously, and investigate some better housings to prevent it.

The Woodsmen's hydroponics also appear to be proceeding well, as some produce appears on the markets which would not otherwise have grown in winter.

International

NEWS FROM AFAR

The Xojan who brought Turchight's message to Hatal for the Foreigners have been given ten questions to ask the strange warrior, and they left Hatal in the first week of May. Foreigners should not expect a response until June.

OOCly, this does give you an extra month to collaborate on what ten questions to ask (there's a very good start in the link above, and another suggestion found in the official plotting thread on the previous itinerary). Once the questions have been decided on, please post them to the thread on that itinerary!

CHIHUELO

The numbers of Chihuelans in Hatal remain steady, though they are somewhat less easily seen this month; in fact, they have declined slightly. It appears someone has been publicly challenging them to Jagaiz fights, where the residents of Hatal won't let them refuse, and demanding only that they leave Hatal if they lose. So far, three can be confirmed to have gone, and it appears the customs agents of Hatal are upholding the transaction if the Chihuelans attempt to return.

So that's our outline for the month of May! If you have any questions about these happenings, please use the Questions comment below. Otherwise, this post is free space for monthly OOC plotting.
