Working on a new business

Hi all! JC here, and I know I've talked about this a bit on plurk but I wanted to make an official posty type thing about it: Erskine is in the process of buying and renovating a building in the Earth Sector to open as a homeless shelter. It'll mostly be for the kedan, although he won't turn away Foreigners who need a temporary place to crash or who are going through bad circumstances.

The renovating part is going to be done largely during fourth wall, because the manual labor will be a good excuse for Erskine and his castmates to work through some of their many, many issues. Because working their aggression out through manual labor kinda beats them punching each other repeatedly... although let's be real, that's gonna happen too. After the building is ready there should still be some opportunities to help get things set up, however, and once the shelter opens Erskine is certainly going to need some help!

I'm tentatively looking at having him open the shelter early next month, and using the tail end of this month to get the last few things in place for opening. This also means he's no longer going to be living/working at the Hotel WHICH I'M REALLY STUPIDLY SAD OVER BUT. He'll be living at the shelter full time, in his own private room, and he'll be acting as security as well as overseeing things.

If anyone would be interested in having their character volunteer/work at the shelter, or maybe help with getting investors/donations, or even helping out with public relations, we can toss some ideas around? That's why I wanted to get this idea out there, so people can plan accordingly.

Fletch will likely volunteer medical aid as/when needed. Mostly because he's a sucker for a good cause, and keeping busy helps let him not think about home.

Also, because he's now working full time at the Guild and volunteering at the hotel, clinic and now the shelter, I get to have him have exhaustion subplots.

That sounds perfect! I was going to have Erskine look for a part-time medic/healer anyway, and since Fletch is from the Guild, Erskine will probably offer a donation to the Guild in exchange.

Dove would be so excited about this. She can help set up/decorate/anything else Erskine needs. :) she'd also be pretty good at getting the word out, if he need any PR done.

(Also babysitting/childcare when she's not at the Healer's Guild.)

...childcare totally didn't even occur to me, but that's an excellent point! Dove is welcome to any of this! On the PR front, Erskine is going to leave any kind of network posting about the shelter (re: looking for volunteers/employees) to other people, so as it gets closer we can work out who would be willing to do that (and how they get involved in the first place) :3

Don't worry Dove, if you do have to stay over, Erskine's making sure it's pretty swanky for a shelter. :)

Great! Medical volunteers will absolutely never be turned down, since they'll need them both to be available for routine check-ups and emergencies. I'll post again when the shelter is nearly done and I'm sure there will be some sort of post that goes up IC about it :)

Yorda will volunteer a bit of light healing and any help an extra pair of hands can lend! And Klaus will volunteer help with construction and donate fresh fruit and veggies that he grows

Both of those will be greatly appreciated! Yorda may end up helping Erskine fold laundry lmfao that kind of sounds adorable actually. Now if he can just find someone to do the actual cooking >_>
