The title kinda gives it away doesn't it? Oops. Name's Faun and I'm playing the ever-so-pleasant Genjyo Sanzo from the Saiyuki manga series by Kazuya Minekura.

Sanzo's not at all pleased to be here so, uh, enjoy the ill-tempered, foul-mouthed, chain-smoking Buddhist priest? He's really good at shooting stuff and being obnoxiously bullheaded. That and the whole, being-a-jerk, thing. I'm so sorry. At least he's pretty?

Then we should have them meet sometime! Correct me if I'm wrong, but Leo is in the Midnight Hotel yes? Sanzo will be doing well enough to at least get around the hotel at this point... So if you want them to meet there at some point, maybe that could work? I can have him leave at any point of course.

Sanzo will be paying for his portion of his room with a lot of sweeping and (probably) singing.

(Oh I feel dumb, please accept my apologies if I'm not doing this whole multiverse rp set-up thing right. My first attempt at multiverse... and the game died before I finished a thread! This is my second go and some of the protocol involved is still a bit confusing to me.)

Heeee! You can thank Aro for me bringing in Sanzo! Got me obsessed with Saiyuki and, of course, my favorite in the group has to be the biggest brat. ;D I'm happy you know of the canon at all! Aro had to show me it and now I'm sitting with 18 volumes around my desk. >_>;

Psh, that's what it's there for. :3 Possibly he could be looking into various auras/energies, or for demonic energy? There's a few plots going around lately where energy-sensing is a thing, so he could reluctantly get some CR out of it.

Yeah, Tokyopop stopped publishing them. They released Reload through volume 9 and then stopped. Last I heard, you could only find english!Vol 10 released by the publisher Chuang Yi. But it's so rare it's basically online only for most of us; I don't even have it.

And Blast is of course only in Japan for now, but saiyuki_manga puts scans and translations up (and has Reload 10 up, too). It's open to join.

Saiyuki Ibun is also on that community, for all your Koumyou-Sanzo-was-such-a-punk, goddamnit-I-would-RP-him-if-it-wouldn't-break-our-Sanzo needs.

Yeah, that's what I heard; I was hoping maybe that had changed in the last few years or something. Alas! I've got up to Reload 9, so I might actually have the whole published set save the Chuang Yi version.

Blast is still ongoing then? Are there any plans to release that in English, or has that suffered too?

Ibun is the one I haven't read at all, though I've seen some of the anime version. I need to catch up, so thanks for the link there.

There's no Ibun in anime version, I think you're thinking of Gaiden. Which got a soul-murdering OVA to finish it off. And by soul-murdering I mean they didn't pull a single punch and delivered it pretty much panel for panel from the manga. They done good. And it hurrrrrt.

... I am entirely thinking of Gaiden, yes, thank you. It's been too long. Which part of the story does Ibun tell? Or is it a continuation of Gaiden? I don't think I've heard of it.

Ibun is a totally different prequel kind of story, following Koumyou Sanzo before he was Koumyou Sanzo, and his friends. (Koumyou was our Sanzo's "dad".)

There was a lot of jumping through hoops to get the collection I currently have. To include helping Aro fill up theirs because getting ahold of some volumes is harder than others. I'd try Ebay.

I have a few ideas for what Sanzo could be doing around the hotel, I'll think of something! I've just been asleep for a day like a dummy. >.o The looking around for various energy related things would be interesting. He's going to be real curious about the wards in the hotel. (But know better than to go touching things that don't concern him, ahaha. Some mistakes do not need to be repeated for the billionth time.)

I gave up on the idea of getting my hands on volume 10 of Reload. Oof. I need to read Ibun myself tbh, I've just been kinda lazy about it because, well, I'm lazy, and I've been re-reading my physical collection while taking notes. Because I'm that kind of obsessive.

Rofl, I don't think sane or reasonable are words many would use to describe Sanzo. And the sanity of those that would might be in question.

And the translations of the easier to read formats online are kinda shite. As appreciative as I am for the scans and translations for Blast on the LJ community, they are frustrating to read, even if they are more accurate. Tbh the bad translations of the online scans is part of why I have all the physical books. If I was gonna rp this asshole, I was going to know how he actually talked, not the weird stilted bad scanlation translations.

And, hey, I like having physical copies of things I like. This being the only manga I currently own, oops.

Yeah, I tend not to read scanlations in general--I much prefer hardcopy, no matter the series--but since that's not an option here I might have to suck it up. Buying books for Research Purposes FTW!

True. Despite being all demony inside he remains one of the most reasonable and level-headed characters in canon. Which probably says something about all the other characters in his canon, really. XD

Yeah I'm really always a fan of hardcopies vs. scans. I usually read scans when I'm really bored and the content is trash (lol) or to see if I would enjoy the series. Saiyuki got me fast and then I got annoyed by the bad translations. Connotations are important! (One of the reasons the anime was actually worth watching. Watched it subbed and it was hilarious the difference between the subtitles and the actual politeness or rudeness of the words actually being used....I know a teeny bit of Japanese. But only a teeny bit.)

I should look into those books at some point. I am such a slow reader lately, sigh sigh! I still need to read the books involving Aro's version of Amberdrake l o l. I'm a bad friend.

God yes it is. My sister and I used to watch the Japanese with English subs as well as the dubs, just to observe differences. (I used to know a bit of Japanese ... mostly by watching subbed anime. XD )

Pshaw, reading lists get looong. I used to be an avid reader and then barely did at all for a decade, and have only just gotten back into it.
