The Great Enemy may have been defeated over two years ago, and people are even willing to speak Malicant's name aloud now, but there remains a taint in the city never fully purged. Those who consider Malicant a dark god whose end was unjust are the cultists of Keeliai, and they aren't always so easy to identify as one might think. Sometimes their presence is felt in the growing urge to give into one's darker instincts, especially in such a foreign place...
Illicit substances, anyone?
Every city has its vices, and Keeliai is no different. Perhaps you actively sought it out, or perhaps an opportunistic dealer saw you as a potential customer needing a free sample, but you're now in possession of a packet of Lucid, an emotion-enhancing drug. Interested in finding out what happens when you crush that colourful crystal and ingest it?

Tu Vishan's latest landfall stop has brought an unwelcome problem to its residents: enormous, toothy creatures who look more like pterosaurs than most people are comfortable with! With a twenty-foot wingspan, these aren't exactly harmless local wildlife, and they have a nasty habit of swooping down on targets both Foreigner and kedan! How are you going to fend them off, or help someone who might have been injured by the latest dive bombing??

Go nuts. Suddenly your character is fighting dragons! Good God, they've found the Millennium Falcon drifting in the ocean! Do you really feel the uncontrollable urge to polish every paving stone in the Earth Sector? Anything goes!

[ He could be doing better things in his life than this. Chasing rogue Decepticons. Returning to the Lost Light with Ratchet. Having the first trip through a genuine washrack in don't ask how long.

Instead? Drift is in full foot-powered flight, pelting down the narrow, booth-lined 'street' as safely as a 17 foot robot carrying more swords than hands possibly can. The swordmech is dodging marketplace shoppers, low hanging merchandise and other obstructions with an absurd level of grace--emphasis on the absurd--with an 80% success rate. (sorry, sorry, he'll pay for that later!)

Now what type of horrors would send a metal creature of this size and obvious athletic ability--not to mention the swords--running in full retreat? The high pitched screeching from behind him might be a clue, a swarm of small figures trailing closely behind, jostling each other to get at him, arms outstretched and tiny hands grasping.

Drift glances back over his shoulder, dentae gritted, as the cries from behind grow closer. It's a dangerous prospect though, as he's certain to run smack into something--or someone--as the swarm of kedan children begin to close the distance, their peels of laughter and screeching child-like voices resolving into one word: ] BUUNNNNYYYY!!

[ No really. ] --the frag did I do to deserve this!?!

[ Things today aren't feeling right. Exploring was never bad...until one started feeling like The Explored instead of the other way around. The cool, prickly feeling still crawls like so many clawed feet over Drift's white plating as he sits in what he hopes to be meditation, trying to shake whatever this is seeping into his aura, turning the invisible hues darker no matter his mood. The spectralist can't find his grounding, and that sheer fact increases his agitation, the grip on the sword lain across his lap moving from reverent gentleness to vice-like.

Drift presumes he's chosen an out-of-the way place to take this moment to himself, but in reality? He's far more likely to be disturbed than he thinks. Leaving his other two short swords just out of reach might have seemed like a noble choice for the safety of any passersby given his mood---but given his day? That's likely to prove to be folly as well. ]

[ it's not the quiet rumble of small feet hitting the ground that draws his attention from reading of all things... rather it's the thunderous sound of Cybertronian feet that has him standing up on the spot. the knee jerk reaction Megatron has is to pull one of the kedan out of the way before a large foot can create a nasty mess to clean.

then and only then does Megatron look up, the red eyes of his avatar squinting to make out just who it is that is creating such a scene. he's barely recognizable with so much dirt and debris caked on, but Megatron knows that helm. he knows who it is almost stumbling over himself in order to avoid an incident. but from what?

his 'head' jerks in the direction of the children, scrambling to keep up with the lumbering, bumbling mech. with a 'sigh,' Megatron supposes that he should deal with one problem before the next. that's how he finds himself, bringing the children to a halt. a distraction of sorts, since he crouches down to be eye level to one of those children.

for a moment, Megatron is thankful that no one knows who he is. this would look ridiculous otherwise... but he's seen this trick done a few times and it seems to deter the simple minded. this trick? pulling a coin from the ear of one of the children. their eyes go wide in awe and Megatron repeats the trick a few times before tossing the coin their way. a child snatches it and the crowd scampers off, Drift all but forgotten.

crisis averted. at least one is. Megatron stands, hands in his pocket. waiting because he knows that Drift is likely to come back to 'thank' his 'savior.' ]

[Excuse you. If Drift is bumbling around it's because he's putting extra effort into not leaving a giant mess in his wake. It's a narrow street for someone his size, so top speed certainly isn't a thing he's anywhere near to achieving, which explains why a herd of small children are successfully giving chase.

Except suddenly they aren't...

Drift skids to a halt, pivoting to take stock of his tail--the child-mob, not the cottontail they are certain he must have somewhere--to see them all crowded around a broad shouldered human stranger. They seemed enthralled by something, to the point that the one child who seems intent on climbing something, even this craggy old man, pauses to watch the flash of a bit of silver. Drift won't admit to being intrigued himself--clearly he should approach to thank this individual for creating a masterful distraction!--but he only closes half the distance, lest he regain then unwanted attention.

Once the crowd clears out he moves forward slowly, curiously, quietly...until that one Undauntable Child appears from an alleyway, two kliks before he adheres himself to Drift's leg.]

Ack!! [This is his Not Amused Face, but with a sigh, it becomes his Resigned to Being a Jungle Gym Face. They're harmless, aren't they? Except maybe to his dignity...]

[ and seeing that Undaunted Child? Megatron is partially sympathetic and more amused. if it were him being clung to, then there might have been a problem. with Drift? seems like that's something that likely happens more than it should. hence the amused.

his response is appropriate as well: a casual shrug. ]

I did try my best.

[ you're on your own there, Drift. ]

[Surprisingly enough, clingy aliens and awkward invasions of his personal space are fairly new to Drift, though given his lot in life and its quota of weirdness, it's not that unusual at all.]

Could you... maybe... [His hand gestures seem to indicate that the small child should get down, but the boy takes this in wholly the opposite manner, scaling Drift's leg with nimble feet and hands, using any flange, seam or armor cusp he can use as a handhold. Drift stands stiffly, terrified to move, until the child acends past his legs. Then with another sigh, he moves gingerly forward to a more conversational distance with his 'savior.']

Eh. Well. Success rate can't always be 100%, right? [Drift returns the shrug, one-shouldered, fearful that the movement might inadvertently squish small fingers on the other side.] Thank you though. Where'd you learn that trick?

[And is that voice familiar? .....naw. He doesn't know many humans. ]

['another chuckle escapes him. Drift and his awkwardness are too much]

An acquaintance of mine is facinated by humanity at large. We have been... Subjugated to his particular tastes.

[Drift's helm tilts in question--which only inspires the child to climb higher, eyes on the prize of those white finials--peering at the stranger.]

Do you always talk about humanity as if outside of it?

[Though...come to think of it. Those red eyes are not natural for humans are they??]

[ Drift is rewarded with a small shrug. Internally Megatron is trying to keep from smirking. ]

The nature of these people makes it hard to determine who is really human and who is otherwise, don't you think?

[ well that sounds too close to himself. ]

Uuhhh... [Well that's enough to make someone suspicious of anyone ever around here. It's one thing to realize you're surrounded by aliens of all different species--this isn't a first for him--but quite another to consider they might not be as advertised.] Are you saying it's common to masquerade as human around here?

[Not that's he's not, you know, guilty of it himself on occasion. He's quite guilty of being a kedan jungle gym though, as the boy has made it to his back--a journey of which elicited more than a few twitchy reactions from Drift, creating a visual catalog of sensitive spaces for the very astute observer. Drift can't bear to put an end to it though, every time the child laughs the corners of his mouth turn up further.]

The Kedan are shape shifters.

[ that clearly means that not everything that looks human is human. ]

Not to mention that there are a few other races that look human, but where not born on Earth.

[ that doesn't make them any less human, but it does mean... ]

So perhaps I should have said 'Earth culture' instead.

[The look on Drift's face is probably more memorable than he'd like it to be. It says a whole lot more than his words do, at least.]

[Organic shapeshifters...figuring out how that works hurts his brain module. He hasn't been here long and apparently has ALOT to learn still. Also does that mean this Gentleman of Quesrionable Nature is trolling him? Probably.]

So what does that make you---OWW HEY! WATCH the haaaands!! [Yes, that would be the small child tugging on his bunny 'ears'. Yes, they are still very sensitive.]

[ ah yes. THAT look. of course Megatron is saved from answering the exact moment that the child starts to put hands where they probably shouldn't.

...it's a scene that makes Megatron's avatar wince. some things really don't change. ]

I'm not sure how you are tolerating that.

[The old guy isn't the only one wincing. Drift's got one optic squeezed shut as he tries to discourage the child while also not manhandling him.]

Very carefully.

[That's how he tolerates this. He's a 4+ billion year old warrior who's not good at much else; he has no idea how to properly handle small squishy young things. Maybe too, there's some envy in the child's innocence, something he never had, and he's reluctant to squash that.

The child at least understands the sound of distress, and with a look of surprise, eases up his grip and tries to soothe what he's done with a few gentle stokes.]

Ach. That's not... What I... [Dammit, this isn't much of an improvement.] You're sure you don't have another of those coins?
