Test Drive Meme | #36

TEST DRIVE MEME - TU SHANSHU EDITION!
Itching to try out writing a character? Then rev up your engines, grab your accounts, and slam your way into this meme! Here is a venue for you to try out whatever character there might be tickling your fancy, from fandom to OC, for as few as one and as many as MANY. Seriously, there's no limit.

How do you partake in this fantastic congregation of character testing? Why, by following these simple steps:

→ Comment with the journal of a character you want to test; put their name and canon in the subject line for added sparkles.
→ Tag around with everyone!
→ Profit like you live on a the back of a turtle!
→ Maybe even RESERVE so you CAN live on the back of a turtle!

But wait, there's more! For the low, low price of $9,999.99, you can even use one of our handy prompts when you tag someone. You could even pick one with a Random Number Generator to help decide which prompt to go with!
  1. Haggling Over Something in the Marketplace!
Maybe someone else saw the exact same shiny thing you did at the exact same moment! However shall this be resolved? Remember: blood is extremely hard to scrub off of turtle shell!

  2. Dramatic Chase Sequence!
You're running away from something! It could be anything, from a rampaging kirin to a gaggle of overly enthusiastic children! One way or another, you can't stop, and much like a katamari ball, you feel obligated to grab everyone in your path along the way to keep them out of danger! Or perhaps you're more the sort to try and knock them into it as a distraction...?

  3. Where There's A Will, There's A...?
The Life and Dreaming Planes have been merged, and sometimes what starts out as wishful thinking becomes lured into reality. That slick new motorcycle or pile of kingly treasure you were just daydreaming about? Surprise! It's just appeared in front of you. Though, it may only stay for a short while before it disappears again, so make it count. Hopefully you're not the type to daydream about terrible things befalling people you don't like...

  4. SECRET UNDERCOVER MODE ACTIVATE!
The three major kedan families all have their own agendas, and you've chosen to entangle yourselves with one (or more!) of them. Are you hoping to shift the balance of power? Gain some favours? Perhaps you're on a mission to bring a criminal to justice, or maybe you just want to get the cream of the crop from the black market. Maybe you haven't been hired by them at all, but are using their name for your own goals... as long as no one discovers the lie!

  5. Wait... you want my what now?!
The kedan are a curious folk, and the Foreigners are entertainment in conveniently arriving packages, especially when they come along with unique items that the kedan might not have seen before. Maybe it's your cellphone... or maybe it's your knickers! How badly do you want to keep your stuff from some overeager native shapeshifters who want to buy, bribe, or burglarize it right off your person?

  6. Sea prunes, get your sea prunes right here!
Life in Keeliai can take a little getting used to: the chickens have scales, the cows have feathers, and the fruits come in more colour and pattern combinations than your average tye-dye shirt. Not to mention that meal you just ordered from the food vendor? Has arrived on the plate, and you're pretty sure you just saw it move.

  7. Everybody needs a little darkness...
The Great Enemy may have been defeated over two years ago, and people are even willing to speak Malicant's name aloud now, but there remains a taint in the city never fully purged. Those who consider Malicant a dark god whose end was unjust are the cultists of Keeliai, and they aren't always so easy to identify as one might think. Sometimes their presence is felt in the growing urge to give into one's darker instincts, especially in such a foreign place...

  8. Illicit substances, anyone?
Every city has its vices, and Keeliai is no different. Perhaps you actively sought it out, or perhaps an opportunistic dealer saw you as a potential customer needing a free sample, but you're now in possession of a packet of Lucid, an emotion-enhancing drug. Interested in finding out what happens when you crush that colourful crystal and ingest it?

  9. Incoming!
Tu Vishan's latest landfall stop has brought an unwelcome problem to its residents: enormous, toothy creatures who look more like pterosaurs than most people are comfortable with! With a twenty-foot wingspan, these aren't exactly harmless local wildlife, and they have a nasty habit of swooping down on targets both Foreigner and kedan! How are you going to fend them off, or help someone who might have been injured by the latest dive bombing??

  10. WILDCARD!
Go nuts. Suddenly your character is fighting dragons! Good God, they've found the Millennium Falcon drifting in the ocean! Do you really feel the need to polish every paving stone in the Earth Sector? Anything goes!

Luke Skywalker | Star Wars

Luke wasn't eyeing the fruits he'd gotten because they looked like a child had coloured them. No, that was pretty familiar, to be honest. The question was if they were safe to eat for others than the natives. He wasn't usually this careful, but the situation wasn't precisely normal, either.

And he remembered Yoda's rootleaf stew all too well, thanks, which was part of the reason he'd avoided anything that still moved, no matter the guarantees that it was good. Not that anything in the stew had moved, but he wasn't feeling too culinarily adventurous at the moment either.

"Will this leave me regretting eating it, do you know?" he asked with a small, wry smile as he held out one of the fruits in question.

[personal profile] hadthehighground 2016-02-21 04:15 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oh it's quite harmless, I assure you."

This coming from a robed man with a beard, one that Luke might recognize, though certainly much younger.

"And it doesn't taste too bad either."

Obi-Wan had become quite familiar with the fruit selections here in Keeliai. Some of them tasted similar to fruits back in their native galaxy. Others... were unlike anything he had ever tried before. Some good, and some not so good. Fortunately, Luke had picked one of the better ones.
flyinglight: (confused child - pls explain)

[personal profile] flyinglight 2016-02-21 04:44 pm (UTC)(link)
"That's better than the food I usually eat, then," Luke's smile widened a little, and maybe it was foolish to trust someone he didn't actually know, again, about the quality of the food, but he'd asked, after all.

Blinking, Luke looked back up again, actually looked at the man in front of him because he could swear...

He was too young, of course, but Luke had some hazy memories of what Ben looked like when he hadn't been quite as wrinkled and white-haired (and bearded) as when he last saw him, and while that didn't exactly match with what he was seeing...

"... Ben?" The question came out after a slightly embarrassing moment of silent staring, and if he wasn't completely wrong, this might actually make him believe what he'd been told about where he was.
hadthehighground: (Orly?)

[personal profile] hadthehighground 2016-02-21 08:37 pm (UTC)(link)
The staring and the name cause his brows to raise in question. "I beg your pardon?"

He's not sure why this fellow would address him as such. He had used that as a codename once but he hardly thought this young man would know of it.

"My name is Obi-Wan, Obi-Wan Kenobi."
flyinglight: (reckless child - what else would be he?)

[personal profile] flyinglight 2016-02-21 10:12 pm (UTC)(link)
"I... I know," Luke said slowly and wondered if he should've said something else - apologised for mistaking him for someone else, maybe - and leave, since, outside of time or not, would this affect anything?

He couldn't quite make himself do that, though, and ventured a faint smile.

"Sorry. I'm just used to... I guess you aren't using that yet." Which made him wonder when he had. Ben had said 'before you were born', but considering the other discrepancies (and that was putting it kindly), Luke wasn't sure anymore. Maybe it had simply felt like that long to Ben, who knew?

He was also bruising the poor fruit, so he dropped it back with the others he'd gotten.
hadthehighground: (It's like this...)

[personal profile] hadthehighground 2016-02-21 10:31 pm (UTC)(link)
That's fully what he had suspected, that he had simply been mistaken for someone else. Thus the reply comes at a surprise, leaving him even more confused.

"I'm sorry, but have we met?"

It was true though that Obi-Wan had used the name, just not on a regular basis. Only for a brief time really. So it wasn't untrue just... depending on your perspective. It's not really a name he answers to though. Not yet anyway.

flyinglight: (I just don't know Artoo - uncertain)

not the certain-point-of-view again!

[personal profile] flyinglight 2016-02-21 10:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Taking a breath, Luke straightened up. Had no idea if he should go through with this or not, because either way it wasn't as if Obi-Wan would know him, but... it was a somewhat familiar face.

Even if some part of Luke wanted to ask some very pointed questions about when, exactly, he'd decided to lie. But he couldn't do that here and now. Luke doubted Ben was old enough to even have had to think about it.

... how old was he anyway?

"It... depends, I guess," Luke said, glancing down at the fruits and then back up, running a hand through his hair, "on whether the name 'Luke Skywalker' means anything to you."
hadthehighground: (are you serious?)

>_> <_<

[personal profile] hadthehighground 2016-02-21 11:04 pm (UTC)(link)
He would be right, Obi-Wan hadn't had time to think on it. He'd come from a time where he was fleeing for his life, and that of a little someone he was carrying with him.

But judging by the man's face, that name did mean something to him. There's a look of shock and disbelief. However, he had been here long enough to know how this world works. How people tend to come from different times. He had thought that this boy looked somewhat familiar. The family resemblance was definitely there.

"Luke... The last I saw of you, you were a baby. I held you in my arms."

flyinglight: (what's that? - surprise)

[personal profile] flyinglight 2016-02-21 11:23 pm (UTC)(link)
There might have been a brief blush - for some reason hearing that was embarrassing on a similar level as listening to when Aunt Beru had made noises about what a sweet baby he'd been. Not that she'd done that for years.

Blinking, Luke shook his head, pushed that thought away and focused back on Obi-Wan.

"You actually took me to Tatooine?" He hadn't thought about it, really, but it made sense, didn't it? A lot of sense, really, and it made him feel a bit foolish for not realising it.

Someone had had to do it, after all.

"... do things like this happen a lot, here?" Luke gestured around them and resisted the urge to wonder if this was really happening or not. It was a bit too weird not to.
hadthehighground: (lets talk)

[personal profile] hadthehighground 2016-02-21 11:30 pm (UTC)(link)
There is no denying that Luke was definitely a cute baby. He hadn't said as much, but Obi-Wan had certainly thought so. Don't worry, he won't start pinching your cheeks or anything.

"Yes, I did," Obi-Wan confirms easily.

There is a bit of a pause at the next question though. He had a feeling he would run into some awkward situations here, much like he had before with a certain someone else.

"Oh, yes, they do happen. In fact, your father is here as well."

Nevermind that he doesn't even know you exist yet.
flyinglight: (thinking hurts - his hand does too)

[personal profile] flyinglight 2016-02-21 11:49 pm (UTC)(link)
The pause was curious, but Luke didn't have much time to wonder what it was for; the next few words was enough to bring an instant twist of confused emotion.

"He's---"

Maybe it was telling that despite the events of the last few weeks, Luke's first reaction was excited hope... which instantly crumpled into wariness. His hand, or rather, the stump where the artificial one had been connected not so long ago, ached suddenly.

"Is..." closing his eyes, Luke determinedly didn't think about Bespin, "has he turned yet?"

There was a tiny little whisper that felt like guilt, insisting that he might actually be able to find out for himself how much he knew about Anakin Skywalker was true, if he hadn't.
hadthehighground: (concerned)

[personal profile] hadthehighground 2016-02-22 01:27 am (UTC)(link)
So he knows. That would save him some potential explanation at least. There was a smile, the sad smile of a man who had seen and lost much.

"No."

He could sense the conflicted feelings in Luke, and could only wonder what he had experienced.

"And he doesn't know everything just yet. In a way, this place could be his second chance."

That was Obi-Wan's hope anyway.
flyinglight: (so you're saying... - talking)

[personal profile] flyinglight 2016-02-22 01:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Slumping a little in relief at that, mostly because it'd make things a little simpler and safer for other people, Luke nodded.

"Okay," running a hand through his hair, Luke finally looked up again, "could it work like that? I mean, what happens when we go back?"

Because sooner or later they would, right? He certainly couldn't stay forever, even if time had frozen - in a way that seemed almost as bad as if it hadn't... Shaking his head, Luke frowned.

"What doesn't he know?" The most obvious possibility was one of the most unpleasant of course, but if he didn't know... Luke wasn't sure it'd be possible not to tell him.

[Having spent much of his training with Vader starving, both literally and figuratively, Starkiller at what he could with little complaint. However, the food here had given him pause.]

Most of the stuff here's harmless enough. They won't sell anything out in the open that's unsafe to eat, anyway. Considering how many of us come from other places, anyway.

[Starkiller asks for, and receives a few of the fruit for himself, and munches hungrily, both out of actual hunger, and to demonstrate the safety of the food. Luke might notice the lightsabers, and the burn scars that run up and down Starkiller's arms. Unlike most, Starkiller made no efforts to hide what he was.]
flyinglight: (shooting stars - they burn up)

[personal profile] flyinglight 2016-02-22 10:05 pm (UTC)(link)
I was wondering, but you never know. [Turning the fruit he'd held out over in his hand, Luke cocks his head.] I mean, it's one thing when everybody's from the same galaxy, but if I understand this place right, we aren't...

[and that's when he notices the lightsabers, trailing off and looking back up at Starkiller.]

Are you a Jedi?

[What's the chance of just walking right into someone else from his own galaxy? Pretty large, apparently.]
clonekiller: (Dual Shien)

[personal profile] clonekiller 2016-02-22 10:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Believe me, I was as suspicious as you are when I first came here. Too much I didn't know.

[Starkiller's gesture is vague. A shrug, mostly.]

Sort of. My father was, anyway. I'm trying to be more like him.

[While he wasn't ashamed of who he was, he was ashamed of where he'd come from. His time with Vader wasn't something he liked to advertise.]
flyinglight: (pensive - should I stay or should I go)

look at all these daddy issues...

[personal profile] flyinglight 2016-02-22 10:51 pm (UTC)(link)
It's hard to believe we're actually on a turtle...

[Shaking his head, Luke swallowed a not-quite-steady chuckle and grinned wryly, very carefully dropping the fruit he'd been holding back into the pile so he didn't bruise, or worse, squash it.]

You too, huh.

[His hand hurt. Or rather, the stump. But he'd had two weeks and if nothing else, Luke had decided - had had to decide - that whatever his father was now, didn't mean he couldn't still aspire to be what he had been. Because surely all that wasn't a lie.]

How long have you been here? I'm Luke.

[That's easier than thinking about... other things.]
clonekiller: (Victory)

Just fallin' from the sky, they are.

[personal profile] clonekiller 2016-02-22 11:04 pm (UTC)(link)
I wish I could say it's the weirdest thing I've ever seen.

[Another shrug. Starkiller's memories of his father were hazy at best. A man in dark brown Jedi robes, telling him not to venture too far into the forests by himself, apologizing for failing him on that fateful day. They weren't happy memories. But when Luke's thoughts turn to his father, Starkiller can sense that they share something in common. Something...unpleasant.]

It beats trying to be like the...man who trained me, anyway.

[Though he'd never lost a limb, Starkiller's stomache hurt any time he thought about Vader. Remembering the white-hot pain as Vader stabbed him through the gut, supposedly to throw off the Emperor's suspicion. What a fool he'd been, to believe that Vader would betray his Master so easily.]

Not long. A week I think. I'm...[He pauses. Does he give the name Vader gave him? Or the one his father gave him?] Galen.
flyinglight: (contemplating patricide - unwanted)

someone oughta do something about it

[personal profile] flyinglight 2016-02-22 11:55 pm (UTC)(link)
[He might not be able to sense the... common denominator they share, but Galen's darkening mood is impossible to miss, and Luke reaches out, though doesn't quite brush his hand against the nearest arm.]

Just because he taught you doesn't mean you have to take all he gave you... or be like he is.

[Luke knows he didn't really help anyone by leaving his training, but if he had to do it again... he would. Anything else wouldn't be right, no matter what Yoda and Ben had thought.]

And yeah, I guess our galaxy can be pretty strange too. [He smiles briefly and shakes his head.] I just got here and it's... weird. I mean, even aside from the whole 'people come from different galaxies' thing or whatever.

[A vague little wave of one hand and the fruit in it as Luke finally takes a bite from it.]
clonekiller: (Smirk)

I blame Anakin. All we need now is Ahsoka to complete the "I was traumatized by Vader" trifecta

[personal profile] clonekiller 2016-02-23 01:43 am (UTC)(link)
[While he doesn't recoil, Starkiller isn't quite sure what to do with the reassuring contact. He hasn't had much of that in his life. Vader's training had been most of his life. It was all he knew.]

It's hard not to. I...wasn't given much else. To him, I was a weapon.

[And he smirks.]

Yeah, well...at least we're a little better prepared. Once you've seen a Gorog or an Exogorth, it takes a lot to surprise you. Some of the others weren't so lucky.
flyinglight: (compliments unnecessary - smile)

it's such a nice club

[personal profile] flyinglight 2016-02-23 01:54 pm (UTC)(link)
As long as you try, I think that should count for something.

[Smiling slightly, he shakes his head. This, after all, isn't the same as the lesson Yoda was trying to teach him, Luke is sure about.]

True. Or a Sarlacc. [Or whatever Kongo had been...] Though I've never thought about that as something strange.

[another wry smile.]
clonekiller: (Smirk)

They should get matching t-shirts

[personal profile] clonekiller 2016-02-23 05:28 pm (UTC)(link)
[Starkiller nods. He can't quite put his finger on it, but there's something about Luke that puts him at ease. Like he's the polar opposite of his father.]

You've got a point. I've been...it's just hard.

[At the mention of a Sarlacc, Starkiller's mind flashes back to Felucia, and the Sarlacc that lived in the Ancient Abyss. He'd been the creature's greatest tormentor, and it's savior within the same six months. What did that say about him?]

That's true enough, though when you think about it, a giant worm in an asteroid isn't that much weirder than a giant turtle on this planet. Maybe it's all just perspective.
flyinglight: (reckless child - what else would be he?)

absolutely

[personal profile] flyinglight 2016-02-23 08:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Tell me about it. [But, Luke shakes his head. That's not exactly something he knows. He hasn't been treated as a weapon... Vague unease at the memories of Ben and Yoda telling him that he's not ready yet makes Luke frown.]

I'm sure you can do it, though. [Smiling, he pushes those thoughts away and focuses back on Galen.] You're already doing it, after all.

... you're right. Didn't think about that. Hardly believed it when my friend told me about ending up inside one and almost getting eaten.

[Put like that, the turtle doesn't seem quite so strange. The rest of it still does, but... that's one thing less.]
clonekiller: (Force Choke)

[personal profile] clonekiller 2016-02-24 01:37 am (UTC)(link)
I think it gets easier if people know, you know? I spent so long by myself, I barely know how to be around people.

[At Luke's reassurance though, Starkiller smiles.]

I got lucky. I passed one in an asteroid on my way to a mission. Nearly lost my starboard flight stabilizer, but that would've just needed repairs. The Gorog was something else though, giant hairless thing so heavy it pulled down one of those bridge cities on Cato Nemoidia just to come after me. Though I may have been encouraging it a little.

[Starkiller doesn't really feel guilty, as Tarko-se had been an Imperial emplacement, but he did feel guilty for all of the innocent Nemoidians who probably died that day.]
flyinglight: (um what's that - looking up)

[personal profile] flyinglight 2016-02-24 01:08 pm (UTC)(link)
I guess you can practice here, then. And my friends accidentally aggravated one of them, though Han deliberately fired into its mouth to figure out what it was.

[He grinned, but then ended up staring, shaking his head.]

Aren't those... huge? They must be, right?

[Han had mentioned those things once, if Luke remembered right, but he didn't have much to go on to visualise what they looked like.]
