TEST DRIVE MEME - TU SHANSHU EDITION!
Itching to try out writing a character? Then rev up your engines, grab your accounts, and slam your way into this meme! Here is a venue for you to try out whatever character there might be tickling your fancy, from fandom to OC, for as few as one and as many as MANY. Seriously, there's no limit.

How do you partake in this fantastic congregation of character testing? Why, by following these simple steps:

→ Comment with the journal of a character you want to test; put their name and canon in the subject line for added sparkles.
→ Tag around with everyone!
→ Profit like you live on a the back of a turtle!
→ Maybe even RESERVE so you CAN live on the back of a turtle!

But wait, there's more! For the low, low price of $9,999.99, you can even use one of our handy prompts when you tag someone. You could even pick one with a Random Number Generator to help decide which prompt to go with!
  1. Haggling Over Something in the Marketplace!
Maybe someone else saw the exact same shiny thing you did at the exact same moment! However shall this be resolved? Remember: blood is extremely hard to scrub off of turtle shell!

  2. Dramatic Chase Sequence!
You're running away from something! It could be anything, from a rampaging kirin to a gaggle of overly enthusiastic children! One way or another, you can't stop, and much like a katamari ball, you feel obligated to grab everyone in your path along the way to keep them out of danger! Or perhaps you're more the sort to try and knock them into it as a distraction...?

  3. Where There's A Will, There's A...?
The Life and Dreaming Planes have been merged, and sometimes what starts out as wishful thinking becomes lured into reality. That slick new motorcycle or pile of kingly treasure you were just daydreaming about? Surprise! It's just appeared in front of you. Though, it may only stay for a short while before it disappears again, so make it count. Hopefully you're not the type to daydream about terrible things befalling people you don't like...

  4. SECRET UNDERCOVER MODE ACTIVATE!
The three major kedan families all have their own agendas, and you've chosen to entangle yourselves with one (or more!) of them. Are you hoping to shift the balance of power? Gain some favours? Perhaps you're on a mission to bring a criminal to justice, or maybe you just want to get the cream of the crop from the black market. Maybe you haven't been hired by them at all, but are using their name for your own goals... as long as no one discovers the lie!

  5. Wait... you want my what now?!
The kedan are a curious folk, and the Foreigners are entertainment in conveniently arriving packages, especially when they come along with unique items that the kedan might not have seen before. Maybe it's your cellphone... or maybe it's your knickers! How badly do you want to keep your stuff from some overeager native shapeshifters who want to buy, bribe, or burglarize it right off your person?

  6. Sea prunes, get your sea prunes right here!
Life in Keeliai can take a little getting used to: the chickens have scales, the cows have feathers, and the fruits come in more colour and pattern combinations than your average tye-dye shirt. Not to mention that meal you just ordered from the food vendor? Has arrived on the plate, and you're pretty sure you just saw it move.

  7. Everybody needs a little darkness...
The Great Enemy may have been defeated over two years ago, and people are even willing to speak Malicant's name aloud now, but there remains a taint in the city never fully purged. Those who consider Malicant a dark god whose end was unjust are the cultists of Keeliai, and they aren't always so easy to identify as one might think. Sometimes their presence is felt in the growing urge to give into one's darker instincts, especially in such a foreign place...

  8. Illicit substances, anyone?
Every city has its vices, and Keeliai is no different. Perhaps you actively sought it out, or perhaps an opportunistic dealer saw you as a potential customer needing a free sample, but you're now in possession of a packet of Lucid, an emotion-enhancing drug. Interested in finding out what happens when you crush that colourful crystal and ingest it?

  9. Incoming!
Tu Vishan's latest landfall stop has brought an unwelcome problem to its residents: enormous, toothy creatures who look more like pterosaurs than most people are comfortable with! With a twenty-foot wingspan, these aren't exactly harmless local wildlife, and they have a nasty habit of swooping down on targets both Foreigner and kedan! How are you going to fend them off, or help someone who might have been injured by the latest dive bombing??

  10. WILDCARD!
Go nuts. Suddenly your character is fighting dragons! Good God, they've found the Millennium Falcon drifting in the ocean! Do you really feel the need to polish every paving stone in the Earth Sector? Anything goes!

Incoming!

He was supposed to go home! Not end up on the back of a turtle! Much less a turtle that's being attacked by giant flying... things.

There's fire everywhere. With sweeping kicks, flips, and punches at the air, Zuko was sending blasts of flame at the flying menaces. One such creature getting hit dead on in the chest and crashing to the ground nearby. Kedan scatter quickly to get out of the way, of both the creatures and the firebender.

Some might recognize this particular hot tempered guy as he's been on the turtle before. His scar more than enough to give him away. But what some might find odd is that there's a small pair of red and black wings on his back.

Sea prunes, get your sea prunes right here!

Sea prunes? Are you serious? He's heard about these, and not here in Keeliai either. Those were those things that Sokka and Katara talked about, and he had it on good authority from Aang that they're pretty disgusting. So when a vendor tries to sell Zuko some, he turns them down quickly. It's the meat that he's most interested in anyway. Many selections are offered him and pushed in his face and... wait did that one just move?

"Ugh, forget it! I'll find my own food!" And with that he begins to stomp his way out of the marketplace.

The fire everywhere is pretty cool at first. Reminds Asteffiel of Winter Rose when she was furious, her staff ready and fire everywhere.

So he helps out, because that's a good plan! Two is better than one! Inky black hands seem to be his main form of attack, the shadowy claws flying in straight lines for flying things.

And it works out. Until the weird elementalist kicks one down and its on fire and a little too close to him. Because guess who forgot that he is, in fact, not a normal plant and thus a bit more resistant to fire than he looks?

"AAAAaahhh fire and dragons, bad bad bad!" The purple plant man running in circles flicking shadowy hands at other flying dragon things.

[personal profile] lordhotman 2016-02-20 04:05 am (UTC)(link)
Zuko didn't consider these things dragons. He knew what dragons looked like and this wasn't it. So he keeps attacking, managing to knock another one away when it goes after a fleeing Kedan. The shadowy hands at first go unnoticed, and Zuko keeps up his pace with his flaming attacks.

But then there's screaming and someone running around in circles. That's enough to distract him and stare for a moment in the direction of some weird looking person. Not that he's not used to seeing weird things back in Luceti but this is new. Zuko then ducks as one of the shadowy hands shoots just over his head and strikes another creature.

"Hey! Watch it!"

For some unknown reason, Asteffiel takes this as a good idea to run closer. Mr Fire isn't throwing fire everywhere.

"We should run." He's made of plants, he's wearing plants, it's very plant-y here now. It's a different hand-flick this time, and a green-blue mist sits on the ground in a circle about them.

"... I can make them run so we can run?" The next flying thing that gets close hits that circle of magic. If Zuko had any scratches, they're starting to heal - while the creature shrieks, bleeding from the magic.
lordhotman: (determined)

[personal profile] lordhotman 2016-02-24 03:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay, so this is new. Zuko has met all sorts of people in Luceti, but never a plant person before. So for a moment he just stares, until oh yeah they're fighting things aren't they? Though to be honest, he has been in tougher scrapes before. Thus he doesn't exactly look keen on running and prepares to continue fighting.

That is until some magic surrounds them, healing the minor scratches from the scuffle and then apparently hurting one of the creatures. Whoa.

Taking that opportunity, Zuko sounds out a fire blast at the already ailing monster. Their combined efforts causing it to scream and crumple to the ground. But there was still more coming.

"Come on, hurry!" This said to his new plant friend as he decides to take the advise after all and makes a retreat.

"Okay~" He's a little less panicky now, but.. vague empathy comes with his race, he might be getting more confident because Mr Fire is confident. Zuko may notice its a little easier to run with this plant by his side - because, well, Asteffiel breathes out what humans need! He is a plant.

Asteffiel follows along right behind Zuko, dropping one more circle of magic. This one doesn't seem to do anything, just shimmers faintly on the ground like some sort of trap.

Trap is probably an accurate way to describe these kind of spells, because any of the monsters that come after them abruptly give shrieks of terror and fly in the other direction. He did say he could make them run away-
lordhotman: ([search] don't do it)

[personal profile] lordhotman 2016-02-26 03:59 am (UTC)(link)
Though Zuko runs, he does glance over his shoulder to see the beasts fly into the trap. Whatever it did, it was working. They were fleeing and that could only be a good thing. It would at least give them, and anyone else around, a chance to escape.

Once they were far enough away, Zuko ducked into an alley and slowed down to catch his breath. Even though he could breathe easier next to the plant guy, he still got tired.

"What were those things?" he voices to nobody in particular.
innercactus: (Default)

[personal profile] innercactus 2016-02-26 04:04 am (UTC)(link)
Only lasts a couple seconds, though. Fortunately most things don't like coming back after something that made them terrified for no reason they could see.

And Asteffiel follows, although he stays standing. He peeks around the corner, before offering extra helpfully:

"Big and mean?"

All the helpfulness of a small child, really.
lordhotman: (suspicious)

[personal profile] lordhotman 2016-02-26 04:12 am (UTC)(link)
"Well... yeah. Obviously. But where did they come from?"

After a moment he stands up again and looks at the skies. Of course, things like this weren't exactly uncommon in Luceti either. It could be worse after all. Shift hunters were pretty nasty. At least these things weren't looking to rip off his wings or sacrifice him or something.

"They'll probably be back eventually, we should find shelter."
innercactus: (05 Thinking Is Hard Sometimes)

[personal profile] innercactus 2016-02-26 04:32 am (UTC)(link)
Asteffiel pauses, because he usually doesn't think on where giant mean dragony things come from.

"The small dragons serve the elder dragons. But usually they look a little alike. ... I don't want to think about a new elder dragon." That's at least how it worked at home.

And this wasn't home. But he really doesn't want to find elder dragons here. Trahearne would be far better suited for anything like that! He was a Firstborn! And actually organized taking down one!

He's.. just going to stare look up and down the alley. Which way, new friend?
lordhotman: (Does the end of the world sound like mor)

[personal profile] lordhotman 2016-02-26 04:46 am (UTC)(link)
"Ugh, those aren't dragons! I don't know what they are, but they're definitely not dragons! I know, I've seen them!"

Zuko huffs, because those creatures aren't the majestic and powerful creatures he had learned firebending from. Calling those things dragons was like an insult to the real ones.
innercactus: (04 Occasionally Is Embarrassed)

[personal profile] innercactus 2016-02-26 06:33 am (UTC)(link)
Asteffiel just.. looks confused. "They have wings and long necks and try to eat things, isn't that what dragons are?"

He'll discover that dragons are very different in a moment, okay.
lordhotman: (Does the end of the world sound like mor)

[personal profile] lordhotman 2016-02-26 11:55 pm (UTC)(link)
"No! ... I mean yes! But they're different!"

Zuko is very insistent about this!

"Dragons breathe fire and are longer and not that ugly!"

After his own encounter with these same creatures, you'd think that Starkiller would have learned better. You would be wrong. Throwing himself into the fray with nary a second thought, Starkiller charges his lightsabers with lightning, hoping to make less of a spectacle of himself than he did the last time he'd fought openly.

He leaps into the air, deftly avoiding the spouts of flame, and looking every bit like a laser-barbed hedgehog as he spins and twists to kill everything that the young Firebender missed.

Landing on the ground after what seems like too long, Starkiller stows his lightsabers, and unleashes a two-handed Lightning Storm, lighting up the sky with the bluish-white energy. Was it heavy-handed? Sure, but it got the job done.

[personal profile] lordhotman 2016-02-26 03:51 am (UTC)(link)
Suddenly there's a guy leaping through his fire, and Zuko pulls back his bending to keep from completely frying the guy. Even if it looks like he doesn't need to. Zuko knows very well how much damage he can do with his firebending. Though when this guy just unleashes the most lightning he's ever seen in his life, Zuko freezes, his jaw dropping.

It... eerily reminded him of Azula, but even she couldn't generate that much lightning at once. Zuko could only watch as the monsters fell all around them. Once it was done, he just stared until he found his voice.

"How did you do that?!"
clonekiller: (Awkward)

[personal profile] clonekiller 2016-02-26 04:07 am (UTC)(link)
Starkiller turned to look at the younger man before him, and shrugs. He reminded Starkiller almost of a younger version of himself, with all of the turmoil and anger bubbling beneath the surface that would make a good Sith Lord.

"I...focus the anger I feel inside, and I feel everything around me through the Force, and I release all of the anger I have into what I feel around me."

Starkiller wasn't honestly sure how it worked, really. He'd first learned how to use the lightning skill on Raxus Prime, and even then he used it to travel through the crashed starships and junk on the planet. All he had to think about was that he wanted something destroyed, and the lightning came to him. It didn't usually matter if something was alive for not for him to feel it.
lordhotman: (Ugh)

[personal profile] lordhotman 2016-02-26 04:15 am (UTC)(link)
At that, Zuko blinked and looked away with a grimace. "Figures," he mutters to himself.

He wanted nothing to do with anything that involved anger. He had given that up a long time ago. Once upon a time that's what fueled his firebending, but not any more. Zuko never wanted to rely on his anger for his bending ever again.

That's why he couldn't generate lightning after all. There was too much turmoil inside of him. Too much warring of good and evil.
clonekiller: (Isolated)

[personal profile] clonekiller 2016-02-26 04:31 am (UTC)(link)
Starkiller could sense the turmoil, the battle between light and dark in this man, and it reminded him a lot of himself. The battle he was still fighting.

"There are other ways of finding this power. There was...another person like me, who could feel the Force, who could create lightning without anger."

Starkiller thinks of Jedi Master Plo Koon, one of the last of the Jedi High Council, and the only Jedi he'd ever heard of who could use lightning.

"You just need to find the power in yourself. What works for you."
lordhotman: (huh?)

[personal profile] lordhotman 2016-02-26 04:37 am (UTC)(link)
For a moment there's hope, but then Zuko frowns and looks down again.

"I don't think I can. I've only been able to redirect it, not make it. I was told it's because I have too much turmoil."

He doesn't think that will ever change. His Uncle is able to do it as well as his sister. How Azula could still generate lightning while being certifiably insane is beyond him. But then, she's never been normal really. This guy is from a different world anyway. Different rules always apply depending on where you're from.

"I feel like I've heard about this Force before. What is it?"
clonekiller: (Lightsaber Flip)

[personal profile] clonekiller 2016-02-26 04:52 am (UTC)(link)
Starkiller nods. Even though his lightning was fueled by rage and anger, it could just as easily backfire if he allowed himself to feel anything else. He'd learned that as a child, trying his best to emulate Master Koon's Electric Judgement technique.

"Even being able to absorb and redirect lightning means that your body's tuned to it. It's just your mind you need to figure out. I don't know you, so I don't know what's causing your turmoil, but if you can figure it out, I might be able to help you anyway. I...kind of feel like I need to try, anyway."

Starkiller takes a deep breath. He's never actually had to explain the Force before.

"It's...it's like the life force that's in everything. It surrounds us, and connects the people who can feel it to everything. It's kind of hard to explain."

Starkiller instead does the only think he can think of, which is to reach a hand out to a cluster of the dead creatures, and he lifts them with the Force, holding them in place several feet off of the ground, before lowering them again with a flick of his wrist.
lordhotman: (moar srs time)

[personal profile] lordhotman 2016-02-26 05:02 am (UTC)(link)
Zuko watched with amazement as the bodies were lifted from the ground. He'd seen people use powers like this before, but it never ceased to amaze him. This guy seems pretty powerful to be able to lift that many bodies of large monsters at once though. He then frowned thoughtfully for a few moments, before making his decision.

"If you can teach me how, I'd like to learn."

To find inner peace is something he's always wanted. And while he's made great strides, he still wasn't there.

"But I want to make one thing clear. I don't want to use anger for anything."
clonekiller: (Smirk)

[personal profile] clonekiller 2016-02-26 05:12 am (UTC)(link)
Starkiller nods, smiling. He has a feeling he's either going to like this guy, or kill him in frustration. He's honestly hoping for the former.

"I'll do what I can, but I've never taught anyone anything, so we'll both be flying blind."

Then, he starts thinking.

"Hmm. Your skill with fire's like nothing I've ever seen, so maybe trying to teach you lightning the way I know it won't work. There's other things I can teach you. Ways of focusing yourself that might get you where you need to be, without anger of the Dark Side."
