+1 Exorcist
Hello all! I'm Rob, and I'll be bringing you John Constantine from the DCU TV series 'Constantine'. Since the tv series followed closer to the comics than the movie, those of you familiar with Hellblazer might recognize him more.
In short, John tends to be pushing into everyone's business or just making a general arse of himself. Things like rules or policies don't apply to him in his point of view.
John does have a Permissions Post over here since he will use hypnosis on a victim when it suits him. Feel free to pm his journal or pp me on plurk at 'camebefore' if you don't want to use the post. If a situation should arise where he needs to do such, I will pm or pp you ahead of time before such is tried. That said, John does have issues of his smoking or alcoholism that might be what some people don't want. Please let me know one way or another.

ShiveryShudder and one Solomon Wreath, who is a necromancer from the same canon. Despite all appearances, of the two of them Solomon is actually the more morally ambiguous.I've been loving our TDM thread and just wanted to know whether you'd like to take that as canon, with some wibbly-wobbly time shenanigans to account for the fog recently clearing. Or we can thread out anew, whichever is good for you!

He would share his stash of alcohol with Solomon then.
Yes! That would be perfect if we did. I need to add John's name to Midnight Hotel thing. I meant to do it last night and ended up forgetting.
I do have one question on the Hotel that I didn't see answered. Given that John is likely to overlay his own traps/wards onto the existing ones, does the Hotel naturally deactivate or override those that might hurt others that would break into John's room or what? I imagine Shudder wouldn't be too pleased to rescue a maid dangling from the ceiling in a Levitation Trap or find a 'visitor' to the Hotel glowing a bright green because they nosed around John's spaces.

As for the wards! The way the Hotel's wards work is that they're mostly passive. They don't actively stop violence from happening (because free will) but mostly they work by alerting Anton when emotions spike and he does a drive-by to see if a rule has been broken. (Yes, this does mean he occasionally gets called to a door because someone's getting jiggy behind it.)
So John's wards wouldn't be affected by the Hotel's wards unless they directly tried to do something overriding or reversing the Hotel's wards, which might be interesting to play with because so many of the Hotel's functions are defined by magic; plumbing, electricity, temperature control are all performed by the wards.
At this point Anton's reputation is big enough that it's unlikely someone would go into John's room without his permission -- esp since John's requesting to do his own linens so he can smoke. It means none of the staff have no business reason to clean his room and the gangs who frequent the Hotel have run up against Shudder enough that they wouldn't take the risk either.
That doesn't mean that John can't lay his own traps, of course, just that it's not likely they'd get set off. You're right that Anton wouldn't appreciate the ones that are harmful if they go off, though. XD He's the type who'd punish both sides if he felt it was warranted.
(If you'd like that to be a thing at all let me know! Mild floutings of the rule might be a punch for a punch or a temporary ban with a fine, or something equally mild but appropriate, rather than a blatant ban/deathstrike. Given landfall it's possible some idiot from Hatal might be a bit too curious for their own good, too.)

... Anton might end up called a few times. John isn't exactly careful about where he chooses to do things.
I can't think of anything John might do that would affect Anton's wards with that information. John's would be mostly for self-defense such as an ejection from his room, a levitation or a mirror one - person walks into the room and finds themselves walking back out.
I'd be up for it if you've got the time. If not, no worries! I just like to let whoever is in charge of a thing know if my char would tamper with something.

If John does decide to get a bit amorous outside a private room he'll find there's a ward that will probably make him regret it in some humiliating way. (Please, John, get amorous; Anton's referenced that ward in a couple of separate threads and I still haven't worked out exactly what it does, except that he needed to build it sometime in the decade after he built the Hotel, and that people generally don't test it again.)
The mirror ward is awesome and is the exact sort of thing Anton would love; pointed but non-lethal.
Thanks! I do appreciate it. The way Anton handles the Hotel is directly tied to how he controls the gist inside him, and he's a bit emotionally fragile these days. (Not that breaking the Hotel would break his control, or anything, but he runs on a very rigid moral code and if he makes exceptions in the Hotel it makes it harder for him to keep up with his internal balance.)
On the whole if John uses the understated wards you mention above I can't imagine he'd get punished more than bruise for bruise, so it's easy enough to work out.

Mirror is what John uses for the outside usually but given that he has no front door, it would work for his room. Probably levitation for his bed if that's okay?
no subject
That's fine! Anton would appreciate that John goes for the non-lethal variety. Would you like to do a thread where some dumbass from Hatal tries to get into John's room? It'd be an opportunity for John to see how the Hotel's wards work and what boundaries he can push, and other fun stuff.

I'm Makari; I play Raine Sage, who's a very curious healer with a passion for science and archaeology, and this lady, China Sorrows, who's from the Skulduggery Pleasant series. She's terrible.
...By terrible I mean manipulative and full of what's effectively love magic. (a permissions post for curiosity's sake, because I'd be interested to thread them at some point, if just for how badly it might go)
welcome aboard the turtle! c:

I'll hit it up in a bit! Can't wait to get started.

Oh, good, he'll fit right in here.I mean....We do have a fair bit of morally ambiguous, though.
And wonderful! I look forward to threading with you, via one character or another. c:

I mean. /cough
Hi! I'm JC, and I play this pretty boy who's been pestering you on the TDM. I loved the Constantine TV series (more for the perfection that was Matt, less for the writing) and I have a bunch of Hellblazer trades (mostly from Frusin's run) and I'm so excited to have a Constantine on the turtle I can't even gush hard enough.
I've really been enjoying our TDM thread--would you like to continue and/or take it as game canon?

The writing on it was kind of bad, but given that they were trying to follow the comics and couldn't bleep out every other word, it was a hard task. He appeared in other places before his own, and Hellblazer is pretty dark for network tv. The storylines in Frusin's run (and Manco's) were some of the better ones. I had kept hoping for more than seeing John in the Lux's background in 'Lucifer' with Carey writing.
I would love to keep it! John finds him interesting even if he isn't sure he's buying the whole Grand Mage part. They tend to look down on him a lot in his world since he's not the formal educated/practitioner sort.
no subject
Definitely a hard task yes, considering what I remember of the books I have. I was particularly enamored of the way they treated the chain smoking in the show, showing John holding cigarettes quite often without actually lighting up. Man now I want to dig out my books (and finally get around to reading the Lucifer I have). Project for tomorrow!
Excellent! I can't wait for them to learn more about each other, there's so much going on behind the scenes for both of them. It might not turn out to be friendship but it sure will be a thing /laughs (the Grand Mage part is actually one of the least evasive things he's told John, LOL. And in the SP world they wouldn't necessarily look down on him provided he didn't spill the beans about magic to mortals)

But yes, she transforms into a giant hound, and has other, more nefarious abilities. (Image courtesy of Erskine's player). Due to some of these abilities, she also has a permissions post here.
I am certain we shall get up to all sorts of shenanigans and welcome to the Turtle!!!

And complain about the dog hair on everything.
Thanks and glad to be here!

Though, most of her best CR began with murderous intent, so they will probably be fine in the end.
Ok, so I was going over things, getting ready for february, and I realized that, due to IC canon actions, I can't finagle our TDM thread into Canon. :(

I have to keep reminding myself I'm canonblind to Constantine, thanks to your TDM threads. He sounds like loads of fun to play and I'm looking forward to bouncing off him in the future!

I can't wait! John will be wtf at a skeleton but take it as a matter of fact once he realises no one else is flipping out.
no subject
Ahem. Hi! I'm Seal, I play IMAA Pepper Potts and I may or may not be a big fan of Constantine. Pepper has been collecting all of the potentially nefarious people on the turtle as friends, along with everyone else, so perhaps Constantine can get added to that list if she doesn't just annoy him to high heaven.

Who knows, maybe Constantine's attitude will be too much to overcome. Not that she won't try. We shall see!

While I've never watched the series for Firefly, I did see the movie. As far as Bakura goes, I did watch the first and maybe second series. Not the best person to run into as I recall. I'm trying to recruit in more DC/Marvel/Vertigo players.

Nice! I'm actually going to see Serenity in theater for their yearly re-run on Friday, although River is pre-Serenity in this game.
Bakura's mellowed (a little) since he's been in game about two years, but people are still fond of comparing him to a prickly cactus. I think he'll like John's give-no-fucks attitude though!

over half the OC roster of this game. ahem. First there's an immortal named Cain (
I look forward to playing with you, though!

Hi Rob I'm Hina. Aside from a certain travel-sized mistress of magic here, I also play Aya from the Green Lantern Animated Series and a 15-year-old ex war brat named Midii Une.
I never thought we'd actually get a Constantine in Tu and I was so thrilled when I saw you on the Test Drive. Zatanna might not know him (yet?), but I certainly do; I love the Hellblazer series, even though I have yet to read through them all. The problem with comics. Alas.
Welcome to the Turtle!
