TEST DRIVE MEME - TU SHANSHU EDITION!
Itching to try out writing a character? Then rev up your engines, grab your accounts, and slam your way into this meme! Here is a venue for you to try out whatever character there might be tickling your fancy, from fandom to OC, for as few as one and as many as MANY. Seriously, there's no limit.

How do you partake in this fantastic congregation of character testing? Why, by following these simple steps:

→ Comment with the journal of a character you want to test; put their name and canon in the subject line for added sparkles.
→ Tag around with everyone!
→ Profit like you live on a the back of a turtle!
→ Maybe even RESERVE so you CAN live on the back of a turtle!

But wait, there's more! For the low, low price of $9,999.99, you can even use one of our handy prompts when you tag someone. You could even pick one with a Random Number Generator to help decide which prompt to go with!
  1. Haggling Over Something in the Marketplace!
Maybe someone else saw the exact same shiny thing you did at the exact same moment! However shall this be resolved? Remember: blood is extremely hard to scrub off of turtle shell!

  2. Dramatic Chase Sequence!
You're running away from something! It could be anything, from a rampaging kirin to a gaggle of overly enthusiastic children! One way or another, you can't stop, and much like a katamari ball, you feel obligated to grab everyone in your path along the way to keep them out of danger! Or perhaps you're more the sort to try and knock them into it as a distraction...?

  3. Where There's A Will, There's A...?
The Life and Dreaming Planes have been merged, and sometimes what starts out as wishful thinking becomes lured into reality. That slick new motorcycle or pile of kingly treasure you were just daydreaming about? Surprise! It's just appeared in front of you. Though, it may only stay for a short while before it disappears again, so make it count. Hopefully you're not the type to daydream about terrible things befalling people you don't like...

  4. SECRET UNDERCOVER MODE ACTIVATE!
The three major kedan families all have their own agendas, and you've chosen to entangle yourselves with one (or more!) of them. Are you hoping to shift the balance of power? Gain some favours? Perhaps you're on a mission to bring a criminal to justice, or maybe you just want to get the cream of the crop from the black market. Maybe you haven't been hired by them at all, but are using their name for your own goals... as long as no one discovers the lie!

  5. Wait... you want my what now?!
The kedan are a curious folk, and the Foreigners are entertainment in conveniently arriving packages, especially when they come along with unique items that the kedan might not have seen before. Maybe it's your cellphone... or maybe it's your knickers! How badly do you want to keep your stuff from some overeager native shapeshifters who want to buy, bribe, or burglarize it right off your person?

  6. Sea prunes, get your sea prunes right here!
Life in Keeliai can take a little getting used to: the chickens have scales, the cows have feathers, and the fruits come in more colour and pattern combinations than your average tye-dye shirt. Not to mention that meal you just ordered from the food vendor? Has arrived on the plate, and you're pretty sure you just saw it move.

  7. Everybody needs a little darkness...
The Great Enemy may have been defeated over two years ago, and people are even willing to speak Malicant's name aloud now, but there remains a taint in the city never fully purged. Those who consider Malicant a dark god whose end was unjust are the cultists of Keeliai, and they aren't always so easy to identify as one might think. Sometimes their presence is felt in the growing urge to give into one's darker instincts, especially in such a foreign place...

  8. Illicit substances, anyone?
Every city has its vices, and Keeliai is no different. Perhaps you actively sought it out, or perhaps an opportunistic dealer saw you as a potential customer needing a free sample, but you're now in possession of a packet of Lucid, an emotion-enhancing drug. Interested in finding out what happens when you crush that colourful crystal and ingest it?

  9. Incoming!
Tu Vishan's latest landfall stop has brought an unwelcome problem to its residents: enormous, toothy creatures who look more like pterosaurs than most people are comfortable with! With a twenty-foot wingspan, these aren't exactly harmless local wildlife, and they have a nasty habit of swooping down on targets both Foreigner and kedan! How are you going to fend them off, or help someone who might have been injured by the latest dive bombing??

  10. WILDCARD!
Go nuts. Suddenly your character is fighting dragons! Good God, they've found the Millennium Falcon drifting in the ocean! Do you really feel the need to polish every paving stone in the Earth Sector? Anything goes!

"They don't usually go for the way obvious marks like that," a voice called to him from behind. "I'm almost surprised they went for you. Pockets like that...it practically screams 'trap'."

The voice was female. And young. Eighteen, at most, though with a certain tone that implied she was very familiar with the neighborhood. If he were to turn around, he would see dark black hair, blues eyes...and both an oversized sweater and pants that lacked visible pockets of any kind. (Definitely familiar with the neighborhood.)

She wasn't looking at him right then, but scanning the area until she found what she was looking for. Three little street urchins with extremely guilty looks on their faces. Rather than yell or shout for help, however, she bent down and motioned with a finger for them to come over. They hesitated at first, but their leader--a boy no more than twelve--eventually stepped forward.

One hand raised, and with a flick of her wrist, a coin appeared. She looked rather pleased with herself, offering it to them...but the leader simply crossed his arms and sent her an unimpressed look right back. Rolling her eyes, she pulled out her other hand, which had two more coins in it. One for each of them. Satisfied, the boys each accepted their gift before running back off into the crowd.

"Then again..." Almost like an afterthought, the young woman straightened her posture, dusting off her hands as she turned back to him. "Many of the locals in this area are pretty good at sniffing out New Arrivals. If I didn't know any better, I'd almost call it magic."

John did turn in a slow and easy sort of way as if he weren't keeping an eye on those around him at all. With the things he was seeing, it was a lot like being at the Souq. The special one that was usually held under bridges.

He tipped a brow as she performed her trick for them. Weird, this place. Magic seemed to be as commonplace here as some of the techno devices he saw others with. A world where they ran side-by-side had seemed impossible to him. Was she a magician? Damned if John knew right off, but her sleight-of-hand was damn good. Might have the good makings of a pickpocket there.

"Those kids find those coins gone to be flowers instead tomorrow, I'll have to keep my lighter close. They seem good at remembering a face. Then again, they're unlikely to remember my mug instead of yours. You seem more their age."

Kids. Why did it have to be a kid? John had no particular liking for younger crowd, not after Newcastle.

"Good variation on the Four Coin Flourish. Least that's what it looked like you used. Hard to tell when I was trying more to keep my things on me."

I was when I first got here.

A thought she mostly kept to herself; over the years, it had become an experiential lesson that, whenever someone tried bringing up her age--particularly how young she was--they were trying to goad her. She wasn't about to let some new (old) guy have the satisfaction.

"Miser's Dream, actually. One of the first tricks my dad ever taught me, back when I was really little. Just a little less flourish in the lead-up." She raised and eyebrow at him, almost willing to forgive the age comment for that alone. "I'm impressed. Most people know the tricks, but not what they're called. Although...your mug and lighter can rest easy: those were real coins I gave them. Scout's honor."

"Brilliant. Hadn't seen it done that well in a long time."

Reminded him of someone but John didn't think deeply on it. Pickpockets and street magicians were a dime a few dozen. People were fascinated by what they didn't think could be explained. Same as how people blamed the devil when something went wrong in their lives.

"Good on you then. Rather not have a crowd of tiny thugs laying in wait for me next time. Now who might you be? John Constantine's my name," he said lightly, looking down at the girl.

He didn't offer his hand, but who would after seeing that slick bit of sleight of hand? John's watch might not be the best, but he liked it on his wrist.

...okay, there was a slight chance he could've just been patronizing her, but she didn't care. Her eyes shone at the compliment, and she gave a smile of both pride and nostalgia. How could she not?

"Zatanna Zatara." In lieu of a handshake, since one was never offered to her, she glanced back over her shoulder, jerking a thumb in the general direction of the Center of the city. "I run the Welcome Center here. So if you're as new as I suspect you are--considering I haven't seen you around before now--feel free to stop by with any questions. Or not. Completely up to you."

The named stopped him cold although none of it was let show on his face. The cigarette in his mouth was drawn from, jets of smoke leaving his mouth in a rush.

"John Zatara's girl?"

There wasn't any doubt of it in John's mind and where this conversation could go next. Warn her that when she was older never to take home some member of a punk band? Don't fall for any pretty words he might tell her? No. None of that would be said now, not when he knew how things would go, had to go. At least for his version of her that was now his past.

"I ask because I met a stage magician named that once. You have his look."

She, too, momentarily froze, although her expression was slightly more obvious: brows raised, eyes wide, and lips notably parted mid-word in surprise.

John Zatara's girl.

The first thought her mind allowed itself. John. Not Giovanni.

"I...haven't heard anyone call him that in a long time. Call me that." Not since...well, it was certainly rare enough that she had to think back. Quite possibly since she was very young. Even the Justice League generally referred to him as either Giovanni or Zatara. Never John. "You know my dad?"

That was the other thing, although it may or may not have been more noteworthy on his part. Know. Present tense. In her time, the famous magician was still alive. Something which, thanks to her years spent meeting people--most notably one Bruce Wayne--from alternate universes...she knew might not always be the case.

When one verbally sniped with a magician on the level of Zatara, they got to be on a first name basis whether said magician liked it or not.

"Sorry about that, luv," he said in a rare apology. John hadn't meant to startle her, didn't know what was going on in her world or if she was even from his. No need to meddle where he most assuredly did not want to. "Didn't know him, no. Always wanted to catch his act. See if he really could guess anyone's name right off or fork over two hundred."

One of those posters for his show laid in the Mill today. John just didn't mention that the show he had been talking about had happened in 1938. Best to change the subject now that he was over his initial surprise.

"Welcome Center? You run it yourself? Most be quite the thing for a girl your age."

...no, of course not.

"It's fine. Don't worry about it. I just...wasn't expecting you to be from the same world as me. Or at least a parallel world. Considering how many... " She trailed off, however, realizing she was starting to ramble. After a second's pause, she shook her head. "Never mind."

No point in weighing all of that on the guy when they'd only just met. Especially if his familiarity with her father--or some version of her father--really was due to Zatara's celebrity status. After all, they'd only just met; what reason did he have to lie to her about that?

Taking full advantage of the change in subject, she shrugged. "Not my idea. Not originally. It was started a few years back by this business woman who thought it might help new arrivals to have a place to go to with questions. When she left, my boyfriend...well, ex-boyfriend now, I guess..." She made a face. Nose scrunched up, like she was either still not sure about the label, or simply unhappy with it. "...inherited it from her. And when he up and disappeared on me late last year, it reverted to me."
