But Gene, definitely. It would be an easy choice, even if he'd be really unhappy about making it. He just doesn't have as many opportunities to use the suit for important stuff in Keeliai as he did back home, so he's (slightly) grown out of the "I must be IRON MAN to DO GOOD and SAVE THE WORLD" mentality. He'd feel useless and hate it, but he's confident that there are enough other powerful foreigners to handle things.

And if they got to go home and keep their memories, still Gene, even assuming he could never make another suit. After going to so much trouble to work things out and make it home together, he would not be backing out, even for the suit. He'd just demote himself to armory support for Pepper and Rhodey, and devote his energies to something else big and important. Like FTL travel.
