TEST DRIVE MEME - TU SHANSHU EDITION!
Itching to try out writing a character? Then rev up your engines, grab your accounts, and slam your way into this meme! Here is a venue for you to try out whatever character there might be tickling your fancy, from fandom to OC, for as few as one and as many as MANY. Seriously, there's no limit.

How do you partake in this fantastic congregation of character testing? Why, by following these simple steps:
→ Comment with the journal of a character you want to test; put their name and canon in the subject line for added sparkles.
    → Tag around with everyone!
→ Profit like you live on a the back of a turtle!
→ Maybe even RESERVE so you CAN live on the back of a turtle!
But wait, there's more! For the low, low price of $9,999.99, you can even use one of our handy prompts when you tag someone. You could even pick one with a Random Number Generator to help decide which prompt to go with!
  1. Haggling Over Something in the Marketplace!
Maybe someone else saw the exact same shiny thing you did at the exact same moment! However shall this be resolved? Remember: blood is extremely hard to scrub off of turtle shell!

  2. Dramatic Chase Sequence!
You're running away from something! It could be anything, from a rampaging kirin to a gaggle of overly enthusiastic children! One way or another, you can't stop, and much like a katamari ball, you feel obligated to grab everyone in your path along the way to keep them out of danger! Or perhaps you're more the sort to try and knock them into it as a distraction...?

  3. Where There's A Will, There's A...?
The Life and Dreaming Planes have been merged, and sometimes what start out as wishful thinking becomes lured into reality. That slick new motorcycle or pile of kingly treasure you were just daydreaming about? Surprise! Though it may only stay for a short while before it disappears again, so make it count. Hopefully you're not the type to daydream about terrible things befalling people you don't like...

  4. SECRET UNDERCOVER MODE ACTIVATE!
The three major kedan families all have their own agendas, and you've chosen to entangle yourselves with one (or more!) of them. Are you hoping to shift the balance of power? Gain some favours? Perhaps you're on a mission to bring a criminal to justice, or maybe you just want to get the cream of the crop from the black market.

  5. WILDCARD!
Go nuts. Suddenly your character is fighting dragons! Good God, they've found the Millennium Falcon drifting in the ocean! Do you really feel the need to polish every paving stone in the Earth Sector? Please note, Wildcard options can also be what you can choose to do if you aren't yet comfortable in the Tu Shanshu setting, and would prefer a more 'dear-mun'-esque experience. Please specify in your post!

What put me there.

[Duh. Irvine takes another step back. She isn't following. That's probably because she has someone behind him, someone he can't see, and the thought makes him break out in sweat. His back prickles wildly.

[He's not used to being this close to a target and not having one of the others nearby to back him up. He can't help it--his gaze darts from one side to the other to check his surroundings, taking his attention away from the sorceress for some precious seconds.]
inkulcation: (really?)

[personal profile] inkulcation 2015-07-27 10:30 am (UTC)(link)
[Her eyes narrow. She's never met him before. Let alone sent him to another world. Therefore, either her future self has been up to something which she'd really love to know about, or there's a serious case of mistaken identity. The former is an annoyance; the latter, practically an insult.]

[Either way, he's increasingly unstable, still has a shotgun pointed at her, and killing him outright would probably be frowned upon by enough people to make it not worthwhile. When he looks away from her China moves.]

[She lunges. Can't reach the tattoos on her legs right now, so normal speed will have to do. She comes in low, brushing the marks on her knuckles into red-glowing life as she does. Her goal's to shove the barrel of the gun up with one hand, follow up with the other with a brute-force punch to the gut that ought at least loosen his grip.]

[Irvine realises what he's done a little too late, his gaze snapping back to the sorceress--but he's surprised when she lunges at him instead of using magic. That's what he thinks at first, anyway, as he jerks back--then he catches sight of the tattoos on her knuckles.]

Crap--!

[He uses the momentum of her shove to toss Exeter, spinning end-over-end, into the air--don't ever try that at home, kids--while he shoves his other hand forward at his waist, gathering with blue and green light. He only gets the Protect spell half up before her fist collides with it and makes it shatter into shards of blue light, but hey, it works. Sends him stumbling back with the blunt force, his wrist and forearm twinging hard, but he always knows where his gun is, always, and Exeter falls into his good hand right on the trajectory he sent it. He spins it to adjust his grip and translates that smoothly to point and fire at the sorceress--hoping he has the chance. She's fast.]

inkulcation: (you're an idiot.)

[personal profile] inkulcation 2015-07-28 06:22 am (UTC)(link)
[Again, the idiosyncratic reaction. Like she is confirming his expectations, but they're the wrong expectations. China doesn't particularly care if this stranger hates her or fears her or whatever else -- she has done what she has done, after all, and denies nothing of who and what she is -- but she's certainly not going to take someone else's deeds on her, too.]

[The light is interesting. Not immediately identifiable as a discipline she knows of, but not impossible for a sorcerer, either. China puts that aside as she realizes he's about to have his gun in hand again, and there's really only one possible following action. She snaps her forearms together, lining up the sigils there with magic-borne precision, and the yellow dome of her force field catches the shotgun blast.]

[It actually pushes her back.]

[The fact that she means to incapacitate, not murder, is what drives her next motion, the almost habitual tap of the tattoos on her upper arms before she flings her hands wide, tossing a wave of blue energy with the motion. She strides after it and him, purposeful, hands curling into loose fists.]

[She primes the sigils on her palms with the gesture as a precautionary measure, the faintest of radiance leaking out. Pain is also incapacitating.]

[Irvine doesn't really expect the shotgun blast to hold, but it still makes panic surge in his gut. If he had a sniper rifle ... she would just block that too. She blocked it before.

[But the blast is strong enough to give him time, and he presses his fingers to his forehead, opens the link between him and Carbuncle. Once upon a time it would have taken over ten seconds for Carbuncle's presence to sink in, go from not quite there to definitely there. These days it takes a blink, the GF's power rushing through him until he feels, for just a moment, as ghost-like as the GFs probably do when they're hibernating in his mind.

[He flings his hand to the ground in front of him and the ground drops away where he points. Carbuncle bounds out of the perfectly-formed hole with the garnet on its head already flashing, and the sorceress's wave of magic slams into the convex green barrier of the Reflect spell. Blue energy skates past either side but where it hits full-on, it bounces back right at the sorceress. Hah! Can't shatter a GF's cast, can yah?

[Carbuncle, bless that shy green bunny, dives back into its hole before it dissolves back into Irvine's brain. For a split-second Irvine's instinct is to take the opportunity and run--he has no backup, he has no idea where he even is. But if this really is the sorceress from earlier time, or followed him in some guise ... he might not get another chance. And if he ignores this one, what if he's condemning the others to being trapped? For all he knows he's the only one who made it this far, and she's keeping them from joining him.

[Quistis. Zell. Squall. Rinoa. Sefie.

[Green light flares in a circle around him and power surges down his arm, and he flings the Meltdown at her. It'll hurt. Probably wouldn't kill, not someone like her, but it'll hurt, and make her body brittle, and it means if he can land a shot it might be enough to kill her proper. If it hits. If either of them do.

[He's really glad the street's already cleared, though. Fake or not, the sorceress was right, at least about him. He couldn't have killed bystanders who looked like confused people.]

[The green rabbit is an excellent distraction. China is by now reasonably sure he's no sorcerer, but she's still markedly off her guard, bemused first by the summoned creature and then by its magical work, when her own magic comes bouncing back at her. It flings her back -- she regains her balance without going all the way to the ground only by dint of being quite practiced -- and she has time to marvel, distantly, at how this has escalated. This is her new counter-example the next time Skulduggery suggests she attempt to be more helpful in her everyday life.]

[And the stranger is doing something else. By now quite put out, China goes for the tattoos on her thighs in what proves to be possibly the best timing she's had all day. When green light flares into a truly massive laser, China blurs.]

[Toward him, of course, this is now not a conflict that can be solved by running. If it ever had been. She's out of the path of the Meltdown and reaching for him, his outstretched arm, incongruously not outright striking; the only indication something else worrisome might be in the offing is the glow of the symbols on her palms.]

[Cold, precise:]
I am not what you think.

[Holy--Haste spell! Haste spell!

[Irvine spins away with a yelp, backing up against a building nearby and aiming his shotgun at her again, automatically pumping it so it self-loads, leaving no shells behind. He's about to shoot when it registers that she spoke. He's about to shoot anyway when it registers what she said.]

No?

[Crap. His voice is shaking.]

You're a sorceress.

[Okay so there are good sorceresses around ... theoretically ... but a chick who looks like that and just happens to be lurking around somewhere he walked into from the time whammy he was in the middle of? Nuh-uh. No way.

[And yet he hesitates. She looks so much like Matron, and now she's forced him to think, and damn it, he hesitates.]
inkulcation: (i can't have heard you right)

[She really would much rather terrify people on purpose, thank you. But the fact she's getting reasonable conversation out of him again stills her, leaves her hands hovering steady right where they are.]

[Sorceress. It means something more to him. It must. Beyond an unnecessarily gendered term for a magic-user. China tests this.]

A mage.

[Accuracy or no, disassociate herself from that and rationality enters the realm of possibility again.]

Tell me. What is a sorceress, to you?
reconjunction: (b&w sniper)

[personal profile] reconjunction 2015-07-28 09:07 am (UTC)(link)
A pretty lady with awesome taste in revealing clothing and terrible taste in tattoos and accessories, who uses magic and 'love me' spells. What's it to you?

[Totally a legitimate question, right? Except Irvine shouldn't be talking. He is, but he shouldn't. He should be killing the sorceress. Only, the sorceress is talking to him. Not just talking at him, rambling about time and SeeD and that other crap, but acting like she expects an answer before she kills him.

[She could've taken him, just then, and she didn't.

[... Crap, don't tell him she's picked him to replace Seifer as her knight.]

Just in case you're in the market for a new knight, I'm not interested.
inkulcation: (you don't say)

[personal profile] inkulcation 2015-07-28 09:33 am (UTC)(link)
[He's both insulted and complimented her fashion sense in one sentence. China may have to be insulted anyway, given the mistaken identity problem. Her eyes narrow a little. Unfortunately, with the exception of terrible taste, she does match that description. Broadly.]

[...and then he loses her again.]

A knight? What possible use could I have for a knight?

[...granted, she does have a fondness for attractive men kneeling at her feet, but in the long-term? Knights are definitely more trouble than they're worth.]
reconjunction: (insecure)

[personal profile] reconjunction 2015-07-28 09:55 am (UTC)(link)
I don't know.

[It was just a ... thing. Irvine had thought it was popular culture thing, with that old movie about the sorceress and the knight, but then Seifer had joined the sorceress, and ... and Irvine really didn't like to think about what uses she might have had for him beyond commanding her army. Really didn't. He was pretty sure he was the only one to think it, too, so he very purposefully didn't mention that part to the others.]

It's just a thing, I guess. Kinda like the junction between the sorceress and the people. Adel didn't have one, but she was kinda beefy. Maybe she had it all internal, and external, already.

[Irvine realises Exeter's barrel is lowering and he lifts it again, takes more care in keeping it levelled. His hands are trembling, and he's suddenly glad for the wall at his back.]

If you're not the sorceress, and I'm not sayin' I believe you aren't, where am I and why did you attack me?
inkulcation: (don't think i didn't see that)

[personal profile] inkulcation 2015-07-28 10:13 am (UTC)(link)
Just a thing, you guess.

[China repeats this thoughtfully, though it's the sort of slow cadence that's used to play an idea back to someone, let them hear just how foolish it sounds coming from someone else. She is not possessed of an exceptionally high opinion of his intelligence right now.]

[And he has the gun up again. Does he never stop? China moves her hands just a little, where she can shove her arms together again quickly if need be. Speaks, when she does, witheringly.]

The city Keeliai, in the world called Konryu. Is leveling a shotgun at a person in a crowded street an acceptable behavior, where you're from?

[Her pale eyes flick, briefly, to his hands. Hm.]
reconjunction: (grin)

[personal profile] reconjunction 2015-07-28 10:25 am (UTC)(link)
[Where you're from. Irvine lets out a laugh, unwillingly, and then he can't stop. He manages not to bow in, even manages not to drop Exeter's barrels, but his shoulders shake and he really needs that wall to keep upright.]

Yeah. So long as you're in military uniform or have the credentials, anyway. Shooting people in the street while in a military uniform, now, that's legal too. But I got outta that country. Too much tyranny for my taste.

[First Deling, then the sorceress. Way too much tyranny.]

But I didn't shoot you. And I'm not the one who attacked first.

[He hasn't really internalised the first part of her answer, yet. The unfamiliar words almost go int one ear and out the other. Almost.]
inkulcation: (you're adorable)

[personal profile] inkulcation 2015-07-28 10:43 am (UTC)(link)
[Annoyance flickers in her expression -- hardly a new thing, given what she was doing about two minutes ago -- but afterward smooths out into pleasant blankness.]

What a charming place to live.

[She wonders, idly, how much of it is still standing.]

You most certainly did shoot me. But I suppose the concession can be made that you acted second. [China shrugs, making of it an elegant, languorous gesture which moves her hands away, lifts her open palms up. It's a concession of a different sort, more or less. A smile turns up the corners of her mouth.] If it's any consolation, murder in the streets is generally frowned upon here.

[Read: she really wasn't planning to kill him.]
reconjunction: (hmm)

[personal profile] reconjunction 2015-07-28 10:51 am (UTC)(link)
That doesn't stop the people who really want to give it their best shot.

[Read: He has no reason to think that she cares enough about public opinion not to. But his hands are shaking badly now, and Irvine isn't sure he can keep Exeter up. He lowers it slowly, to avoid it going off, but he keeps one hand resting on its chassis, ready to use magic if he has to. Carbuncle's Reflect should still be up, anyways. Hopefully that would give him a few seconds.

[He still doesn't trust her. She's too beautiful, too graceful, too aware of her motions. It's a lot like how the sorceress moved.]

Another world? You mean like ... another planet?
inkulcation: (i know what i'm doing)

[personal profile] inkulcation 2015-07-29 10:34 am (UTC)(link)
[The repercussions are really not worth giving it her best shot. China doesn't bother clarifying that, though, only smiles. He's alive, isn't he? That says enough.] Of course it doesn't.

[But the gun is down, even if China judges that's at least half due to his shaking hands rather than any real desire to cease hostilities. Still, it's the results that matter. Look, they're being positively civil now. Isn't that nice. She drops her hands to her sides, careless, shifts her posture to something calculatedly nonchalant.]

Not quite. One world can contain many planets. But it's certainly as foreign, and as difficult to traverse.

I'm sure you have several appropriately skeptical questions on the topic.
reconjunction: (hmm)

[personal profile] reconjunction 2015-07-29 10:52 am (UTC)(link)
Ohh ...

[For a moment it seems like he's just going to stare blankly, but then he shakes his head and motions vaguely at her and their surroundings.]

You mean universes. I've heard of those.

[The things he'd heard while in Esthar. Things that were fascinating, but way, way beyond him, but which he'd asked about anyway if only to understand more about Sis's ability and what the sorceress meant to do with it. Something about strings and layers of reality. He rubs his head.]

Or, uh, dimensions? They kind of used the terms interchangeably.

[... All of which does not in the least bit preclude the possibility that he walked out of the time compression and into something else, or that this woman is really a sorceress. Just a different kind, and not exactly trustworthy.]

... Crap. Are there portals back?

[Still worth a try, right?]
inkulcation: (over there)

[personal profile] inkulcation 2015-07-30 09:54 am (UTC)(link)
Whatever you choose to call them. [Despite the smile, her cadence suggests she's a bit impatient.] A place distant from your home, inaccessible by any standard method of transportation. It's possible some of the natural laws you're accustomed to may be different. Such as the way magic works.

[That's said a little pointedly. Whatever China could do about interdimensional travel would require a teleporter and an Isthmus Anchor. This is not her doing and she really doesn't plan to accept the blame for it.]

There's no real control over who comes and goes. Supposedly, the spell that did control it is... malfunctioning. 'Eventually' is all anyone can promise.

[China's not all that broken up about that, it's just that she'd prefer to know and control such things herself.]

You were in the middle of something important.
