TEST DRIVE MEME - TU SHANSHU EDITION!
Itching to try out writing a character? Then rev up your engines, grab your accounts, and slam your way into this meme! Here is a venue for you to try out whatever character there might be tickling your fancy, from fandom to OC, for as few as one and as many as MANY. Seriously, there's no limit.

How do you partake in this fantastic congregation of character testing? Why, by following these simple steps:
→ Comment with the journal of a character you want to test; put their name and canon in the subject line for added sparkles.
    → Tag around with everyone!
→ Profit like you live on a the back of a turtle!
→ Maybe even RESERVE so you CAN live on the back of a turtle!
But wait, there's more! For the low, low price of $9,999.99, you can even use one of our handy prompts when you tag someone. You could even pick one with a Random Number Generator to help decide which prompt to go with!
  1. Haggling Over Something in the Marketplace!
Maybe someone else saw the exact same shiny thing you did at the exact same moment! However shall this be resolved? Remember: blood is extremely hard to scrub off of turtle shell!

  2. Dramatic Chase Sequence!
You're running away from something! It could be anything, from a rampaging kirin to a gaggle of overly enthusiastic children! One way or another, you can't stop, and much like a katamari ball, you feel obligated to grab everyone in your path along the way to keep them out of danger! Or perhaps you're more the sort to try and knock them into it as a distraction...?

  3. Where There's A Will, There's A...?
The Life and Dreaming Planes have been merged, and sometimes what start out as wishful thinking becomes lured into reality. That slick new motorcycle or pile of kingly treasure you were just daydreaming about? Surprise! Though it may only stay for a short while before it disappears again, so make it count. Hopefully you're not the type to daydream about terrible things befalling people you don't like...

  4. SECRET UNDERCOVER MODE ACTIVATE!
The three major kedan families all have their own agendas, and you've chosen to entangle yourselves with one (or more!) of them. Are you hoping to shift the balance of power? Gain some favours? Perhaps you're on a mission to bring a criminal to justice, or maybe you just want to get the cream of the crop from the black market.

  5. WILDCARD!
Go nuts. Suddenly your character is fighting dragons! Good God, they've found the Millennium Falcon drifting in the ocean! Do you really feel the need to polish every paving stone in the Earth Sector? Please note, Wildcard options can also be what you can choose to do if you aren't yet comfortable in the Tu Shanshu setting, and would prefer a more 'dear-mun'-esque experience. Please specify in your post!

"Alright, consider this an explanation round."

A beat. For a moment he considers letting the coin be real but Asher let's it slide. Stealing has never been his thing. Well, not unless it's part of the contract and he's being paid to do it. Honestly, stabbing things is more his scene.

"Nothing to be gained but knowledge." He nods to the other players who, trusting Asher as leader of this mess agree. He's the ringleader of the whole game after all. It surprises him that no one seems to know it. Across the table, Asher slides an upturned cup to Hawke. Beneath it, the man will find 5 dice.

"And some coin. And maybe a hangover." The others might not know it but Hawke can tell. He watched them play enough to know that Asher is completely in charge of this table. After being friends with Varric and Isabela he can sort of tell this kind of thing.

When Hawke takes the cup he lifts it off the board to check the other man's boast. After a moment Hawke nods his head.

"All right, now we know that you can count."

Another chuckle. Asher can tell already that this stranger and him are going to get along just fine. "That comes after this round ends," he adds.

When Hawke lifts the cup, Asher nods to him. "Rule one, don't show or tell anyone what's under your cup. That's for your eyes only."
iwannabeadragon: (Damn I'm awesome)

[personal profile] iwannabeadragon 2015-05-31 09:25 am (UTC)(link)
Hawke nods again, lowering the cup onto the dice again. He continues to smirk already enjoying himself. "Now that might be a small problem. Never could keep my mouth shut for long."

The cup slides back to Asher. So far the rules seem simple enough. He might actually be better at this than he is at Wicked Grace. "Guess I'll just have to see how things work out."
dogwhodefies: (well that's just cute)

"Hold onto those," he says with a smirk. "I've got my own, as does everyone else in the game."

Gosh this is fun. Asher likes showing people new things and gambling is high on his list of things to share. "Now, remember what you've got, note that there are five dice in each cup at present and four players in the game."

For each part of the list or action, Asher motions with his hands to aid his explanations. There's nothing overdone in his movements, but his enthusiasm and desire to put on a good show can't go without notice. "Now you pick a number and take a guess as to how many of that dice are on the board. For example, before you sat down I stated there would be five fives. Five of the dice on the board are a five."

His gaze turns to the woman at his side who regards him with amusement. "The count can only raise from here. If the lovely creature to my right wishes to raise the bet, she must state sixes. Otherwise, if she thinks I'm full of shit, she's welcome to call my bluff."

This game sounds more and more interesting the more Asher explains it. He might be awful at cards, at least in comparison to some of his friends, but this sounds like a game right up his alley. He pulls his cup right back to him. "I think I've wrapped my head around it."

Hawke snorts in his own amusement as Asher begins to flirt with the woman. He thinks he's going to fit right in with this group.

With a sort of lazy confidence, Hawke leans back in his chair and grins. "All right who's ready to lose some money?"

Asher barks out a laugh and slaps a hand on the table. "There's a little more to it, but I guess we'll deal with that when we get there."

Grinning like a fiend, he looks from Hawke to the man at his left before looking once more to the woman. There's a pause, and then she shakes her head. No sir, she will not raise today. "You lie," she says.

Asher rubs his jaw and sets a hand atop his cup. "A liar, am I? Well, I might be just that at times, but... hopefully not today."

He looks to Hawke. "My friend, now we turn our cups over and if there are five fives upon the table, the purse is mine. Or would be, were this not a test run."

In most cases, the bet would start at ones or twos rather than skipping straight to fives.

Hawke watches the whole thing in grand amusement. This might be the most fun he's had in some time. After spending the last several months on the run trying to give the Chantry a chase they'll never forget, it feels good to just sit at a table with complete strangers and play a game.

"Well then, come on don't hold out on the lady. Let's see what you've got," he says with a grin and shoots the woman a playful wink.

This is exactly the kind of environment that Hawke loves, if not thrives. The only thing that could make it better would be the presence of his friends. Seeing how all of them have been scattered to the winds that seems unlikely these days.

The more Hawke speaks, the more Asher wonders if they're secretly related. He doesn't even know the other man's name but he sure as hell likes him. Perhaps, depending on how this round plays out, he'll introduce himself. Or buy a round of drinks, if things go well. Or both. Likely both. ...Hopefully both.

Asher lifts his cup to reveals five die, two of them fives. The man grins. It's a good start. The man to his left lifts his cup next and reveals another five, taking Asher to three. It's down to Hawke and the woman.

"Two more and I win," he says, more than a little pleased.

After this Asher's very likely to see Hawke around again. With a fine crowd like this it's all but certain that he'll be making several visits back to this tavern. He'd very much like to get to know this fellow with the fine beard. Hawke feels like the two of them have a lot in common.

With the reveal of the other man's dice Hawke's grin grows. His eyes flick back to the woman across from him, a teasing glint in them. "You show us yours and I'll show them mine."

She laughs and reveals her dice. One more five sits on the table. Hawke whistles. "Looks like we're coming down to the wire."

Finally it's Hawkes turn. He looks around the table and begins lifting his cup agonizingly slowly, playing up the moment as much as he can. When the dice are finally revealed a three, two fours, a two, and a pair of snake eyes sit on the table.

"Damn," Hawke says and looks back to Asher. "Honestly I was hoping you'd win. If you spent all your good luck on the practice round it'd make the game just that much easier for me to win."

He plays it cool, though Asher is well on alert and eager to see what the final dice read. It's not in his favour. Of course it bloody well isn't. Still, he frowns a little and then shakes his head, chuckling as he does.

"You can't win them all," he shrugs. "Though there is some skill involved, a lot of this game falls to luck."

Asher grins and glances about the table. "Shall we play a round for real then?"
iwannabeadragon: (Would I lie to you?)

[personal profile] iwannabeadragon 2015-06-04 05:44 pm (UTC)(link)
"Now that's what I like to hear. Luck and I go together like milk and honey."

Hawke cants his head to the side for a moment, looking thoughtful before continuing with a shrug of his own. "Well, if the milk had gone bad and the honey was stale anyway."

His luck is awful. Hawke knows that better than anyone else. Yet here he is, continuing to push his luck every chance he gets. With a flourish, Hawke sets his cup over his dice again and grins.

Hawke's words earn a chuckle, and Asher scoops up both his cup and dice and readies them for a shake up. Two coins hit the table, the man's bet set in place before he slams the cup down, effectively trapping the shuffled dice beneath it. He'll wait for everyone else to follow suit before he sneaks a peak.

"The more you speak, stranger, the more I wonder if we're related."

"If you knew me you'd be desperately hoping that you aren't," Hawke retorts, his smile faltering to smirk. While perhaps not a sore subject for him, watching his family die around him one by one certainly left its mark on the man.

He won't like that train of thought dampen his mood, especially amongst people he doesn't know. "Still, take enough money from me and you'll likely be seeing enough of me that people might suppose we are."

As he speaks Hawke shakes his cup with the dice inside. After slamming them back on the table Hawke tosses two gold pieces to match Asher's bet and sets his elbow onto the table, grinning confidently.
