Test Drive Meme | June 2015

TEST DRIVE MEME - TU SHANSHU EDITION!
Itching to try out writing a character? Then rev up your engines, grab your accounts, and slam your way into this meme! Here is a venue for you to try out whatever character there might be tickling your fancy, from fandom to OC, for as few as one and as many as MANY. Seriously, there's no limit.

How do you partake in this fantastic congregation of character testing? Why, by following these simple steps:
→ Comment with the journal of a character you want to test; put their name and canon in the subject line for added sparkles.
    → Tag around with everyone!
→ Profit like you live on a the back of a turtle!
→ Maybe even RESERVE so you CAN live on the back of a turtle!
But wait, there's more! For the low, low price of $9,999.99, you can even use one of our handy prompts when you tag someone. You could even pick one with a Random Number Generator to help decide which prompt to go with!
  1. Haggling Over Something in the Marketplace!
Maybe someone else saw the exact same shiny thing you did at the exact same moment! However shall this be resolved? Remember: blood is extremely hard to scrub off of turtle shell!

  2. Dramatic Chase Sequence!
You're running away from something! It could be anything, from a rampaging kirin to a gaggle of overly enthusiastic children! One way or another, you can't stop, and much like a katamari ball, you feel obligated to grab everyone in your path along the way to keep them out of danger! Or perhaps you're more the sort to try and knock them into it as a distraction...?

  3. Where There's A Will, There's A...?
The Life and Dreaming Planes have been merged, and sometimes what start out as wishful thinking becomes lured into reality. That slick new motorcycle or pile of kingly treasure you were just daydreaming about? Surprise! Though it may only stay for a short while before it disappears again, so make it count. Hopefully you're not the type to daydream about terrible things befalling people you don't like...

  4. SECRET UNDERCOVER MODE ACTIVATE!
The three major kedan families all have their own agendas, and you've chosen to entangle yourselves with one (or more!) of them. Are you hoping to shift the balance of power? Gain some favours? Perhaps you're on a mission to bring a criminal to justice, or maybe you just want to get the cream of the crop from the black market.

  5. WILDCARD!
Go nuts. Suddenly your character is fighting dragons! Good God, they've found the Millennium Falcon drifting in the ocean! Do you really feel the need to polish every paving stone in the Earth Sector? Please note, Wildcard options can also be what you can choose to do if you aren't yet comfortable in the Tu Shanshu setting, and would prefer a more 'dear-mun'-esque experience. Please specify in your post!

2 - She couldn't tell you how it happened. Couldn't tell you what started it. The wrong placement of a foot, the flutter of a ribbon at the wrong moment?

All she can tell you is that the kirin suddenly rolled its eyes, the white lolling into view, and reared, sending its startled handler stumbling back -- back, back, into a pile of baskets. Birds screech, go flying . . . and suddenly the area is a chaos of feathers and kedan yelps and the wild keen of the kirin.

She only has time to take two steps back -- one, two -- and the kirin surges, its startlement escalated into a froth of alarm. She doesn't think, can't think -- just whirls, twists, darting through kedan and stalls with the creature after her.

It's not her day. Not at all.

5 - There's a girl (woman?) kneeling at the turtle head -- a lone, straight-backed figure staring out at the water, her skirt fanned around her. A breeze stirs her hair and the ribbons at her heck, fluttering against . . . what appears to be a gem, embedded into her back.

She is also blue. Very blue. Both her skin and hair are rich with the color, nearly as deep as the water beyond.

As the kirin begins to chase her down an alley, suddenly a wall of glittering ice springs into existence from one building wall to the other, blocking the creature's path. A second forms behind it, trapping it in like a corral and cutting off its pursuit. A white-haired teen lands near Lapis, holding his hands up to calm her. "Hey, are you okay?"

The kedan reach the outer ice wall and, seeing the kirin trapped, hurry to find ropes and its tack to get it back under control.

"Worst thing you can do is run from them," Jack says ruefully, offering Lapis a wry grin, because he knows she couldn't have known that. "Makes them more excited, or something. I guess they like the chase, since they spend most of their days pulling carts."

Run. The thought presses into her brain. Run. Her insides twist into a knot of dread, the hoofbeats pounding behind her, each strike of the foot against the earth like an impact in her own mind.

Fly. She needs to fly, but there's no space; she can't get enough room . . .

Then, suddenly, the boy landing in front of her, hands outstretched.

Lapis gasps, startles like a kirin herself, eyes enormous, feet scrambling to twist, to stop. She only just manages not to run into him headlong, sliding and skidding, poised and braced in the dust like a bird just a moment before flight. For a moment his words are just a scatter, nonsensical; she takes a moment to parse them, sort through them into any semblance of meaning.

Safe?

. . . Is she safe?

She twists back over her shoulder to stare at the ice wall and the kirin rearing in agitation behind it. Her eyes whisk back to Jack, still wide, questioning, as though silently asking him to affirm before standing down red alert.

It had been quite a while since Jack had gotten a reaction like that, and his glibness fades immediately into concern for the girl -- the very, very blue girl -- and her fear.

"Are you all right?" he asks again. "I'm Jack... what's your name?"

(It's fine -- welcome back!)

Safe.

Briefly she closes her eyes, letting the fear drain out of her body in a small shudder. Without even considering it, her arms draw around herself.

"I'm all right." Her eyes come open again, as deep a blue as the rest of her. "My name is Lapis. Lapis Lazuli. Thank you."
wintershepherd: (kind)

ty! and gah, Lapis is so cute

"Lapis Lazuli," he repeated. "Like the gemstone? That's pretty. And you're welcome, but any of us Foreigners would have helped you out. We try to look after one another here. Did you just arrive?"
oceantier: (to wish)

Thank you! <3 I'm loving playing her.

She stares at him a long moment at the first question, eyes wide and serious. It's fully possible to wonder if she didn't understand the question or hadn't quite heard him -- before abruptly, she blinks. "Like my gem. Yes."

"I just came. One of . . ." Hesitation. "The men? said that this wasn't Earth."

Her features somber a little, something else seeping into them like a quiet grief. "He said we couldn't go home. We are . . . trapped here?"

Jack wasn't sure what to make of the possessive clarification, but he filed that away in the back of his mind for the moment. "Okay."

In the background, the kedan was roped and led away, and the alleyway became infinitely quieter. Jack left the ice barriers standing for the moment, sensing that this girl might need a few more minutes of privacy, or at least peace and quiet.

"The natives here are called kedan," he explained. "As for not going home, that's a little more complicated. We can't control when we leave, anymore than you could that we arrive. But time, it's completely frozen in our world's while we're here. We go back to the exact moment we left, so... nothing's happening without you, all right?"
