[Tony is grocery shopping in the market - a chore that he still hates. First of all, he has a limited amount of money to shop with, a situation that is completely alien to him. Second of all, he has to pick out food which he knows he'll later have to cook. Just the thought is exhausting.
He does a double-take when he sees the cat. Last time he checked, cats weren't native wildlife here. When the cat speaks, he does a triple-take. Possibly even a quadruple-take.]
[ There is another black cat nearby. Well, kitten. It has an adorable red bandanna around its neck and it is sitting under a stall a few feet away while it watches the struggle. While she speaks vocally, his only option is to poke around at peoples' heads in the timeless Realm of the Dead. Have fun with that. ]
It helps if you jump up on the tables first. They definitely notice that.

[ Jack's pretty good at spotting lost, even in the new bustle of the marketplaces in the city. The fact that this older man is wearing a very sharp looking suit amid the largely Asian-analogous clothing habits of the kedan doesn't lend itself to blending in well. ]

[ The tone is light and friendly, but Jack scoops the seeming-fruit from Leo's hand before the man can do much with it. ]
They bite on the way down, so, might be better to try something that doesn't get so offended at being eaten.

Groceries aren't impossible, but the minute she's gone looking for clothes so that she isn't wearing the same thing every day...

[Kedan are shouting angrily as Abel tears through the crowded street, bumping into anybody that gets in his way and not even sparing a breath for any sort of apology. The more perceptive people can notice that Abel's feet are not quite touching the ground and are instead hitting a strange dark flame that are keeping him aloft and allowing him greater speed.
...Nobody really needs to be all that perceptive to notice that Abel's being chased by an angry kedan with a large knife, shouting something about him being a thief. This chase as far as he's concerned, has gone on long enough and Abel uses his magic to quickly yank himself to the side and into a small alleyway so that he can wait out the kedan's search for him and he can finally continue his investigation of this place.]
[Skulduggery happens to be in the alley for an entirely different reason.
A reason that ceases to be important when Cain comes barging in, narrowly avoiding an angry kedan who goes on to tear the marketplace apart looking for him.]
[ This certainly puts the tiny town of Deadwood to shame, and even Jane's forays into the larger cities has nothing on the vast, exotic sprawl of Keeliai. But it was strange, because there was a clear dichotomy between things that she could relate too-- the open air markets and shopkeepers, the partially completed tram line that was not so much different from the railways now spanning the great West. But there were also things that she didn't know what to make of, including the unicorn-type creature pulling carts instead of regular horses, or the fact that some of the people -- kedan, she recalled being told -- wore features that had surely never been put on God's green Earth.
Presently, she was leaning against the side of one of the market stalls, the wide brim of her hat shading her eyes as she watched two kedan with firearms strapped to their belts move through the crowd. Other kedan parted for them with wary glances, and that was enough to capture Jane's attention. Troublemakers were troublemakers, no matter what the city backdrop. ]
[The two kedan with firearms strapped to their belts moved through the crowd, examining the faces of those they passed, looking for a thief. They had very little information to go on; only that the thief was a Foreigner, and that the Foreigner was wearing a hat. A vague description though it was, the Snakes had been looking for a reason to send the Foreigners a message, and weren't overly concerned with whether they caught someone who was actually the culprit, or merely an innocent bystander.
[Okay, this? This is chaos. Chuck's worked at the Buy More during Black Friday openings, and this is chaos. How does anyone even find anything in the marketplace? Not to mention that everything looks strange and the kedan are looking at him funny and he's not sure what's food.
The Intersect, annoyingly, isn't a whole lot of help here.]
[ This poor kid looks completely out of his depth, which probably makes him a Foreigner. Cain's been getting into the habit of at least meeting all the Foreigners he comes across for his own peace of mind, not to mention compiling as much information as he can on everyone.
He comes up behind Chuck, follows his line of sight, then laughs. ]

[So far as Arno had been able to tell, the best way to get on with life here was to build connections. He was FAR on the sidelines right now, would stay there for a while, but it was a living.

Luck had still held out so far, at least as far as jumping went, even if the seeking...took a little work.

Granted, this is a crowd unlike any she's ever been in before, but it's not so different from Tokyo or Hong Kong or a thousand other places she'd trailed her father to, or Carrington. Just the people are different, and a little weird, and some of them might be blue.

Aside the vague 'welcome information', if one wants to call it that, Arno's not gotten a lot of note about natives to the area or anything, but the dove is...what? What?
It's the mention of corruption that draws him closer. As much as he could do without corruption, and without people ranting and raving about correcting it, and bringing order to the world or...spores, in this case, he is stopping and studying the creature a minute, blinking very hard.]

Still, the time she's spent alone does begin to tell, and Aqua takes refuge in a quieter corner of the market, away from the main hustle and bustle. She's taken to simply watching the myriad shapes and forms of the inhabitants here for now, far more diverse than any other world she's been to.]

[Being in a city on the back of a turtle might be a new experience for Cole, but he was adaptable and pretty quickly he had learned that despite the differences, it really was quite the same as home. Just like at home, he was doing his best to survive without too much trouble, but fate didn't really like him and was doing his best to make his life hell.
Right now though, Cole was in the marketplace arguing with a merchant about the price of some sort of food he was selling. The merchant was getting upset, but Cole seemed pretty calm despite the frustrated kedan in his face.]
You and I both know that this is overpriced and I know for a fact there's a kedan further down the street who sells this for a third of the price.
[ Chris hasn't been listening long, but he's seen enough to realize what's happening and catches on quickly enough. She frowned as one of the said Kedan began to hassle one of the merchants and contemplated interfering.
Be careful, Kit, Regulus cautioned sleepily.
"I'm usually careful," Lucina replied quietly, though audibly if anyone was close enough to hear.

but after getting settled in the Metal Sector and having a night of getting drunk because what logic is there in being on a Giant Turtle, seriously, on top of everything else, the good Professor is doing some resource hunting. he may be in the marketplace, he may be in the black marketplace trying to find something a bit more difficult to get.
but really, an old man in a coat warrants only so much attention. right?
he may also be critically eyeing some of the local 'technology', already thinking of ways to improve it. the quality of life here is...dated, to say the least, and there's already a number of ways he can see that things could be made more efficient, and therefore even the poor could have such an easier time of it.
heck, he may even be trying to talk with one of those folks, getting an idea of what they need most.]

Well, long story short: the back of a turtle. Things happen, man. Fortunately it seems to be a really big turtle, with lots of cool stuff to look at/touch/poke at. He's already been yelled at by five different merchants. This place is awesome.
Basically he's just wandering around, as you do as a blissfully unaware fourteen-year-old completely alone in a strange place. What's the worst that could happen, right?]
[ We won't say what the worst that could happen is, because that's just asking for trouble. But something that isn't the worst thing that could happen would be getting bowled over by a fifteen-year-old kid making a really tight corner on an odd-looking set of rollerblades. ]

This city of Keeliai is similar to Cambulac, yet markedly different; while some of the trappings are similar, in Cambulac there had never been anybody sprouting feathers from their skin. These 'kedan', as they are called, seem to be an adaptable people. The Latin would no doubt compose some artful language to describe them.
But that doesn't help Jingim, wearing what are obviously regal robes and trying his damnedest not to look lost. The son of the great Khan does not ogle like some tourist! ...even if that's what he is. So he strides regally through the market, trying not to look alarmed or impressed by anything. He succeeds mostly in looking a bit confused and bewildered, actually. But nobody burst his bubble.
[Some people have a manner about them, a certain regal bearing that causes people, even unconsciously, to make way for them as they walk. A self-assuredness, a certainty in one's own importance, that others react to on a purely instinctual level.
Tony, being the sheltered, spoiled, socially maladroit rich kid that he is, is immune to such people.
Which is why he almost plows right into the dude in the fancy robes while he's trying to remember what that weird fruit that Gene asked for looks like.]
Whoah! [Tony makes a course correction at the last second, and gives Mister Right of Way the stink-eye. Then he does a double-take, and his annoyance fades almost immediately when he realizes how bewildered - not to mention out of place - the guy looks.]

The more perceptive people can notice that Abel's feet are not quite touching the ground and are instead hitting a strange dark flame that are keeping him aloft and allowing him greater speed.
...Nobody really needs to be all that perceptive to notice that Abel's being chased by an angry kedan with a large knife, shouting something about him being a thief. This chase as far as he's concerned, has gone on long enough and Abel uses his magic to quickly yank himself to the side and into a small alleyway so that he can wait out the kedan's search for him and he can finally continue his investigation of this place.]

[Being in a city on the back of a turtle might be a new experience for Cole, but he was adaptable and pretty quickly he had learned that despite the differences, it really was quite the same as home. Just like at home, he was doing his best to survive without too much trouble, but fate didn't really like him and was doing his best to make his life hell.

This city of Keeliai is similar to Cambulac, yet markedly different; while some of the trappings are similar, in Cambulac there had never been anybody sprouting feathers from their skin. These 'kedan', as they are called, seem to be an adaptable people. The Latin would no doubt compose some artful language to describe them.
But that doesn't help Jingim, wearing what are obviously regal robes and trying his damnedest not to look lost. The son of the great Khan does not ogle like some tourist! ...even if that's what he is. So he strides regally through the market, trying not to look alarmed or impressed by anything. He succeeds mostly in looking a bit confused and bewildered, actually. But nobody burst his bubble.
