Test Drive - June 2014

TEST DRIVE MEME - TU SHANSHU EDITION!
Itching to try out writing a character? Then rev up your engines, grab your accounts, and slam your way into this meme! Here is a venue for you to try out whatever character there might be tickling your fancy, from fandom to OC, for as few as one and as many as MANY. Seriously, there's no limit.

How do you partake in this fantastic congregation of character testing? Why, by following these simple steps:
    → Comment with the journal of a character you want to test; put their name and canon in the subject line for added sparkles.
    → Tag around with everyone!
    → Profit like you live on a the back of a turtle!
    → Maybe even RESERVE so you CAN live on the back of a turtle!
But wait, there's more! For the low, low price of $9,999.99, you can even use one of our handy prompts when you tag someone. You could even pick one with a Random Number Generator to help decide which prompt to go with!
  1. A Chance Meeting at the Turtle's Head.
    Remember, being here causes a great sense of-- well, shall we say inner peace.

  2. Haggling Over Something in the Marketplace!
    Maybe someone else saw the exact same shiny thing you did at the exact same moment! However shall this be resolved? Remember: blood is extremely hard to scrub off of turtle shell!

  3. Have Met Before? Because I Could've Sworn I've Seen You In My Dreams.
    Have you wandered into the realm of Dreaming via an archway in Keeliai? Here, everything is shaped to your character's individual mind. Dreams can be shared between characters and will result in a meshing of minds. These dreams can be positive or negative, depending on your character.

  4. Dramatic Chase Sequence!
    You're running away from something! It could be anything, from a rampaging kirin to a gaggle of overly enthusiastic children, or even one of the newest editions to Keeliai's menagerie, an incredibly affectionate turtle the size of a minivan! One way or another, you can't stop, and much like a katamari ball, you feel obligated to grab everyone in your path along the way to keep them out of danger! Or perhaps you're more the sort to try and knock them into it as a distraction...?

  5. Who You Gonna Call?
    Malicant has been messing with some bad juju and is trying to figure out how to use the magic which links souls to bodies. You might find yourself a little "inconveniently discorporated" for a while but they'll get you set back to rights... right?

  6. WILDCARD!
    Go nuts. Suddenly your character is fighting dragons! Good God, they've found the Millennium Falcon drifting in the ocean! Do you really feel the need to polish every paving stone in the Earth Sector? Please note, Wildcard options are also what you can choose to do if you aren't yet comfortable in the Tu Shanshu setting and would prefer a more 'dear-mun' esque experience. Please specify in your post!

Harry Osborn | Amazing Spider-Man | ota

[personal profile] thinkbigger 2014-06-25 05:49 pm (UTC)(link)
1.
[It took some time for Harry to arrive at the turtle's head, even with the help of some kedan and a cart that seemed to crawl along only vaguely faster than he might have been able to walk had he been willing to exhaust himself. He gave them a thanks and slipped them a few juulan as he might with any professional driver before beginning the walk up the stairs towards the area he has heard brings both calm and, if one is lucky, the chance for answers.]

2.
[There was no mistaking the design. Even if it wasn't exactly the small bombs they had designed at OsCorp, the orange color and split shell couldn't have been developed elsewhere. Anything belonging to OsCorp now belonged to him and Harry didn't much like that someone else was looking at the item. He made his way through the crowd to approach both the vendor and potential buyer with the smallest, most polite of smiles.]

That's a complicated piece of technology. Even dangerous, if you don't know how to use it.

3.
[Harry remembered exploring the ruins and then being here with nothing in between. He stood in the lobby of the OsCorp building, KARI speaking overhead in a strange way that made her somehow impossible to understand. He frowned at the empty room, somehow less grandiose without the workers scurrying on their respective ways, to and fro.

For once, instead of moving deeper into the tower, the CEO walked toward the glass doors at its exit, wanting to see what was outside and how he may have come to be in this place. It wasn't home, he knew that much, but it was too close for comfort and he wanted to get away from it.]

6. -- MAKE SOMETHING UP

[personal profile] acroarachnid 2014-06-26 06:19 pm (UTC)(link)
[ The voice didn't register as quick as it probably should have. One, because Peter had his back turned to Harry as he focused on the bombs. Those things occasionally managed to pop up into his nightmares, and he was not happy about seeing them here. Two, this was a younger and... well, not as hardened version of Harry than he was used to. Turning to look at who was talking to him, Pete's eyes widened - there were Osborn features, but he otherwise looked different.

Man, did he hate alternate realities.

He quickly wiped the look off his face and tried to replace it with a grin.
]

I'm good with complicated. [ No, he wasn't. ] And the danger's why I wanna get it out of here as soon as possible.

thinkbigger: (oscorp)

[personal profile] thinkbigger 2014-06-28 05:08 am (UTC)(link)
Most people wouldn't know what it is. [He mused, watching the other man with absolutely no sign of familiarity crossing his features.] You must be particularly attentive.

[Or something else. Harry never believed in the saying 'great minds think alike' and he believed in coincidence even less. The orange bombs - his bombs - being here meant that some piece of his world had come with him to this place and he didn't like the idea that the man at the counter had any more familiarity with them than Harry himself did.

In true Osborn fashion, none of that contempt or disappointment showed. Instead, the young CEO reached out a hand in introduction.]
Harry Osborn.

[personal profile] acroarachnid 2014-07-01 05:50 am (UTC)(link)
I've seen a few of these already. [ And Harry's answer settled everything in Peter's mind - despite the differences in appearance (no weird hairstyle, for one), this was Harry Osborn. A Harry Osborn. Maybe he would be lucky and it would be a friendly one.

He almost laughed and took Harry's hand in his own.
]

Figured as much. Guessing you either don't know me where you come from or I look different. Peter Parker.
thinkbigger: (just harry)

[personal profile] thinkbigger 2014-07-11 04:41 am (UTC)(link)
[Harry's hand tightened on the man's at his introduction.] I know a Peter Parker, but I imagine the image extends beyond the one man.

[He dropped his hand with a mild look of irritation on his face before returning his attention to the explosive. Whoever this man was, this was clearly some kind of joke or ploy and Harry wasn't keen on dealing with it.]

[personal profile] acroarachnid 2014-07-11 04:59 am (UTC)(link)
Harry- seriously? [ Peter actually laughed at that point and leaned in and around to get a better look at Harry's face, now that he had decided to turn away. Invading personal space much? Probably, but this was his best friend from a parallel universe. ]

Yeah, I might not be the Pete you know, but I'm still kinda like him. Let me see how much matches up - he's from Forest Hills, no parents, raised by his aunt and uncle? Am I getting warmer? [ Harry might want to stop him, though, cause he could probably keep going. ]
thinkbigger: (i think you have no idea)

[personal profile] thinkbigger 2014-07-11 05:08 am (UTC)(link)
[Harry lifted his arm to try to stop the man from his uncomfortable proximity, taking a half-step back in the process. The young CEO looked at him again with a remarkably similar expression of irritation, if slightly more severe.]

Am I supposed to be impressed that you know about a journalistic photographer I went to school with years ago? [Not knowing who this man was, Harry was much more inclined to downplay his friendship with Peter. It was amazing how easily the friends of an Osborn could become a target. His expression evened and he adopted a shallow smile as he shifted his gaze to the seller.] How much for the orange device?

[personal profile] acroarachnid 2014-07-12 08:04 am (UTC)(link)
[ Well, that wasn't a look Peter was used to at all... Geeze. Peter blinked and then frowned, drawing back to respect the desire for distance, even if kind of hurt. ]

Not really. It's not like it was ever easy to impress you. [ Peter looked to the merchant and then the orange bomb; he really couldn't let Harry get his hands on that, could he? ]
thinkbigger: (just harry)

[personal profile] thinkbigger 2014-07-12 02:48 pm (UTC)(link)
[The seller looked from Harry to the alleged Peter and back again before offering a price, obviously hesitant to sell the item without the other man's official declaration of disinterest. And so Harry looked at him again, wondering who the man was and doubting that the OsCorp property would be safe in the hands of this potential lunatic.]

If you're Peter Parker, then you should know why you came to visit me after so many years. [He lifted an eyebrow expectantly.]

I also wonder how it is that you know about this- [He waved an idle hand to sweep across the orange ball.] -when its uses have been strictly experimental within OsCorp's Research and Development department.

[personal profile] acroarachnid 2014-07-13 08:21 am (UTC)(link)
[ Visiting him after so many years? Well, that explained a difference to Peter between their two universes, apart from Harry's different appearance and the difference in age. Had they not gone to college together? His brow furrowed as he tried to piece together why they might have not spoken and what would have broken the silence. It was only a guess on his part, once he remembered that the way Harry was speaking about the Goblin tech, both previously and just now- he spoke like someone who had more intimate knowledge of the company and its work.

Was he in charge? Would that mean Norman wasn't around? It was a risky guess on Peter's part, but if anything would prompt him to talk to Harry after years of silence, it would be that.
]

Again- different version of me, but it's because your father passed away, isn't it? [ To lose your parents... Well, that was a pain they shared.

He frowned at the mention of the device they were both interested in.
]

Harry, I'm pushing close to thirty- and I've seen a lot more. Those things? They've terrorized New York a lot. I'd rather see it dismantled than loose around here. [ But, eyeing the merchant, he lifted his hand and waved off any interest he might have. If Harry was going to trust him or not was up to him, and the least Peter could do was trust this version of Harry. ]

thinkbigger: (like a male model and peter)

[personal profile] thinkbigger 2014-07-13 09:01 pm (UTC)(link)
[Harry gave Peter a neutral look. Someone who didn't know him so well might find it impossible to read, but his friend would recognize is as both surprise and acceptance of the answer; Peter was right.

He returned his gaze to the seller and pulled out the necessary juulan to buy the item. Once it was his, he checked the item to ensure it couldn't be accidentally discharged - a form of built-in safety - and then slid the bulky item into one of the pockets of his leather jacket. It was uncomfortable, but he preferred the subtle gesture of claiming it with the alleged Peter here.]

I'll take care of it. [Harry answered finally, looking to the other man again. Whether that meant dismantling it or simply holding onto it was, of course, unclear. But the man's words had struck Harry's interest.] What do you mean a 'different version of you?'

[personal profile] acroarachnid 2014-07-21 09:18 pm (UTC)(link)
[ This still nagged at Peter a little, but he had to trust that Harry, this version of Harry would be different and not give in to anything like the Harry he knew might have. Maybe with different universes, things were different enough that he wouldn't have to worry. Could he be that lucky?

Peter realized, though, that he was talking about the parallel universe thing pretty damn casually, but if anything should be questioned, he could always chalk it up to work with Horizon in the past.
]

As I'm guessing you can kind of tell from this place [ He gestured with his hands to indicate the world all around them. ] there are a lot of different worlds out there. Some of them are parallel universes, places where you can find other versions of yourself and people you know. Just- different.

[ He let out a small sigh and reached up to run a hand back through his hair. ]

I'm guessing the Peter Parker you're used to is younger and not as good looking, huh? [ Humor helped, didn't it? ]
thinkbigger: (just harry)

[personal profile] thinkbigger 2014-07-23 05:04 am (UTC)(link)
[Harry reached out to pick up and consider another item, though it barely held his interest for more than a passing second. Then he gave a subtle nod to the man, encouraging the Peter to walk with him and continue around the market instead of occupying the kedan's space and risk damaging his profit margin.]

No. He's terrible to look at. [It was said with a smile and a hint of a laugh, a joke that his own Peter would have appreciated.] If you're the same Peter Parker, then tell me about your Harry Osborn.

[personal profile] acroarachnid 2014-07-27 05:24 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Peter followed along, eyeing other things along the market to keep from staring at Harry. He seemed so different, and yet so familiar. He wasn't sure how used he would get to this sort of thing no matter how many times it happened in his life. Considering the Harry he knew was off in hiding with his son, though, it was... nice to see some version of him again. ]

Oh, he's a great guy. Terrible hair like his dad, but he manages to be charming. We met in college. He- ah... [ A moment of hesitation, where he scratched at his cheek trying to figure out the proper way to phrase it. ]

He had some trouble, ended up having to go off to Europe for a while, but he came back good. Owned a nice cafe for a while. We don't talk much anymore, but he's trying to focus on his kid. [ One of his kids. He didn't want to bring up little Normie, because that would eventually bring up Liz and big Normie. ]

Luke Skywalker | Star Wars

[personal profile] last_ofthe_jedi 2014-07-04 06:26 am (UTC)(link)
1;

It seemed natural that Luke would find his way out here eventually. He'd heard about the peaceful and calming attributes of the turtle's head and decided to get acquainted with the route sooner rather than later. It took the better part of the day to get here but if the destination was even more serene than the journey, it'd be well worth it.

He's been sitting on the ground (or rather, some several meters from the stairs landing, wherever on the turtle that might be exactly) cross-legged for over an hour now, silently keeping to himself. If observed he may seem to be in a trance-like state but he's perfectly aware of everything about him.

2;

In the city and on the streets where he's surrounded by people Luke prefers to wear his cloak to keep out of sight. Not that he's necessarily trying to hide from anyone, he just likes to remain out of mind until he's needed. It's a Jedi thing.

He's been watching a vendor suspiciously out of the corner of his eye for a minute now, watched as the man dropped a couple juulans into his pocket from the pile his current customer just dropped onto the counter. He then pretends to count them and looks up angrily, shouting that he's two juulans short.

Luke steps quickly forward, arriving with barely a sound. His presence likely isn't even noticed by the customer until he speaks, waving his hand at the merchant in a particular way. "You were paid in full."

The merchant awkwardly repeats him, eyes suddenly dull and thoughtless. "I was paid in full."

"Thank you for your business."

The merchant absently repeats him again and then impatiently urges the customer on their way, seeming to have suddenly snapped out of it without ever realizing what happened.

6;

The Wood Sector is exactly the kind of place Luke would call home were he ever given the opportunity to choose. Living on bases and spaceships for the past few years has made him truly appreciate the outdoors and the fresh air.

This spot in particular, a wooded area out a ways from the main streets is where Luke has been spending much of his time practicing and training. If he's going to be a warrior for these people then he needs to be ready. He can be found swinging his glowing green lightsaber at an invisible adversary or levitating logs, rocks, and whatever else he can find around him in wide orbits, practicing his control.

Wan had just been about to argue with the merchant because he counted his money and he knew he'd paid the man enough and, in fact, had caught the slip of the man's hand. He just hadn't been able to tell how many of the coins the merchant had taken out of the pile until the count happened. Wan had lived the life of a thief long enough in his own lion turtle city to know those tricks.

But the newcomer made the expected argument unnecessary. Somehow.

Wan shuffled away from the merchant a few steps before turning to seek out the interloper, "How'd you do that?"
last_ofthe_jedi: (esb: tell me about it)

[personal profile] last_ofthe_jedi 2014-07-04 08:03 am (UTC)(link)
Around here Luke's been slow to trust people, and with good reason. He knows there are spies everywhere. Sometimes he lets people in on his secrets but typically not random strangers on the street.

He smiles at Wan good-naturedly, though, and shrugs. "I just gave him a suggestion. Thankfully he took it." By which he means that merchant is weak-minded as all get out but he won't say that out loud, especially while they're still anywhere near the vendor's booth.
raavashing: (upset: This is not where it ends)

[personal profile] raavashing 2014-07-04 08:06 am (UTC)(link)
"You did more than that," Wan insisted, though thankfully lowering his voice as he did so. "He wasn't himself when he said what you told him to say. You waved your hand and you did something to him when you did that."
last_ofthe_jedi: (esb: going to figure this out)

[personal profile] last_ofthe_jedi 2014-07-04 08:13 am (UTC)(link)
It's plain to see that this guy isn't going to just let it drop so Luke begins to guide him away from the vendor with a hand on his arm, glancing in various directions before speaking again.

"I can influence the thoughts and actions of the easily influenced. Not by much but enough to be occasionally useful." Luke nods back in the direction of the booth to indicate one such occasion. He still doesn't quite feel comfortable getting into the specifics of his powers so for now he settles on the 'mildly psychic tendencies' approach.
raavashing: (upset: Where the water meets the sky)

[personal profile] raavashing 2014-07-04 08:31 am (UTC)(link)
Wan allowed himself to guided but rolled his arm out of Luke's grip once they were far enough way to not be heard by the merchant. When it was explained, Wan actually felt a little mixed on it. On the one hand, the man hadn't been allowed to act on his own thoughts. On the other, the man had been out to cheat Wan out of two very hard earned coins.

And it wasn't like Wan was above stealing. But that wasn't the same as forcing someone else to think differently. It wasn't the same as actually convincing them. And that was what decided Wan's response, "You shouldn't do that. Not for something like this. Maybe to get someone out of being unfairly punished or keep them from being banished from the city, but not over some coins. I saw him take the money. I could have convinced him to not cheat me."
last_ofthe_jedi: (anh: o rly)

[personal profile] last_ofthe_jedi 2014-07-04 08:40 am (UTC)(link)
Luke does understand where he's coming from, and he's thought the same thing many times before, but it's a complicated issue and people are often too stupid or stubborn for their own good and arguing with them often just ends up going on circles... or worse.

"Why resort to a tactic that would likely end in argument, possibly violence, when there's a peaceful solution available?"
raavashing: (upset: A wonderful part)

[personal profile] raavashing 2014-07-04 08:46 am (UTC)(link)
"It wouldn't end up in violence. An argument doesn't have to escalate like that," he returned stubbornly. "Peace should be obtained without coercion. Through compromise. Forcing your will on another like that is wrong. I can understand it in some situations. But this was just a dishonest merchant. I could handle that, even if it did start as argument."
last_ofthe_jedi: (esb: playful)

[personal profile] last_ofthe_jedi 2014-07-04 08:54 am (UTC)(link)
Again, Luke seems to be expecting this response. He turns partially away from Wan. "Peace isn't that simple."

Luke would know all about that, having just come from a decades-long struggle to regain peace. Many people died, families were torn apart, entire planets were utterly destroyed. There are people he loved that he'll never see again... for peace. Peace often doesn't mean what people think it means, though that's not easy to explain.

He then turns back to face Wan, looking somewhat carelessly amused. He's been through this discussion a million times. "You would still be arguing with him right now."
raavashing: (Neutral: And you know that I would lie)

[personal profile] raavashing 2014-07-04 09:03 am (UTC)(link)
Oh if only Luke knew he was talking to the man whose soul was literally bonded to the Spirit of Light and Peace. Wan was well aware that peace wasn't that simple. He was deeply, painfully aware of it. He'd lost everyone he thought of as family at the hands of others who he still called friends because they could not come to a peaceful solution before the embodiment of Darkness and Chaos pushed things too far.

"Probably," he said with a dismissive shrug, "But that would be both his choice and my choice. There is give and take without subverting another's will for something so petty. It's just money. In the end if it's that important to him that he might seek violence against me for arguing, then it's not worth holding onto. And it's my choice to walk away or not. But the fact is you didn't give me a chance to even try and change his mind."
last_ofthe_jedi: (esb: tell me about it)

[personal profile] last_ofthe_jedi 2014-07-04 04:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Luke's grown past the point of dividing things into 'petty' and 'important'. It's all the same to him and he had been doing the guy a favor. Oh well, not everyone is always going to be grateful for his help, and some are even going to find it wrong. It's sometimes the fate of a Jedi to aid without thanks or recognition. It's also the burden of a Jedi to carry such a power, learn how to use it, and then be criticized or even feared by those who don't understand it.

Even as Wan is still talking Luke looks away, seems to be thinking about something else. This is why he usually doesn't tell people of his powers. They often think he has too much. If Wan only knew what else he could do... Then he smiles at Wan, nods to him, and turns to walk away. "Enjoy your day."
raavashing: (smile: I will carry you with me)

[personal profile] raavashing 2014-07-04 04:47 pm (UTC)(link)
"You could at least apologize!" Wan called out in frustration, but he didn't expect whoever that guy was to do so. From what Wan could see, all he cared about was feeling like he was in the right. The man clearly had expected Wan to be thankful for the 'help'. And at one point in his life, Wan probably would have. That was a while ago, another lifetime practically.

After another moment, Wan took a deep breath and the anger that had been building drained out of him. Quickly, gently, like it had never existed at all. What was done, was done and in this case, he didn't expect he'd be able to change the man's mind about how he used his power. There was no use holding onto the emotion.

Instead he turned his attention back to what he'd been planning to do with the eight loaves of bread he'd just bought: break them up and feed them to the few birds brave enough to gather at the edge of the market. He didn't even care that it might look strange for him to sit down right there and start passing out the newly-made crumbs to the animals. And he didn't notice the odd looks the Kedan gave him as they walked by. He was just a happy foreigner happily throwing his food away.
