Honestly, the answer to both of these works as one short-answer:

In general, he's a lot more relaxed these days. He also feels rather lost, because this place has not given him any sense of purpose--well, until the egg turned up. He's not used to not having a purpose. However, he has mostly kept away from the politics, and frankly being able to do so has been a huge relief, considering it got him killed. As for roles... being a healer has helped a little, because it reminds him of his wife, and the turtle egg is already helping him so much because, well, somewhere to channel all the paternal feelings he never got to indulge in. Overall, I think he's starting to come to terms with it all. Not filling the role of Princeps feels odd, but a little freeing, too.

As far as trauma handling, the power nerf event was a big turning point. He was left with a lot of time on his hands, and he'd been using his crafting to keep himself from having to sleep too much or dream at all (something I hadn't realized until the event happened).
