Wine? We've got wine. And a church.

Good evening, Tu Shanshu!

Box and I have been plotting something for a bit now, and have indeed hashed this out and brought it through the appropriate channels. A few of you might have heard mutters about it from my end – or, really, mostly my textually sobbing about Gilgamesh being his usual, troublesome self. However, we can now present it to you all as powers are back online.

In either case, this is a two-step process. The first bit of news is that Kotomine Kirei, resident priest, will be setting up a church in the Earth Sector. The second bit of news that ties into it is that he will not be solely offering up church services, and you have Gilgamesh to thank for that. Or condemn. As you do.

Gilgamesh, who actually belongs in the Fire Sector, will take up his usual habit of hanging around, and will be “improving” upon said services by offering black market wine (well, temporarily - he'll just make the luxury item a little more plentiful again with his "help"). Yes, what I am saying is that the church will also serve as a front for Gilgamesh’s illicit distributions, as so graciously provided by his Gate of Babylon (see: Encyclopedia of Tangible Human Knowledge). However, the term “offering up” is a bit of a falsity. Gilgamesh will not accept anything less than a good chunk of change or an object of interest. These objects have been specified in a post I’ll link you all to later. Fear not. If you’re wondering about his stock and the quality, it is reasonable to say that you don’t have to worry about him running out and that this wine is not his best wine, but it is probably better than any wine you’d usually purchase for yourself. He keeps all the best stuff, naturally. Don’t ask him to be too generous.

However, like with everything else about Gilgamesh, there are about a million asterisks presented with this distribution. Due to Gilgamesh’s nature, you cannot assume the first trade with him. He is a fickle, petty, and ill-tempered tyrant. There is a very good chance that you will not get wine if you talk to him incorrectly, are somehow blacklisted by prior interactions (just ask me and I can tell you if your character is or not – you could always have someone else get it for them, but don’t let him figure that one out), catch him on a day he doesn’t feel like distributing, or is just in a plain horrible mood. Similarly, if you don’t offer him enough, you notably will not get anything.

So, let’s break it down:

I. Gilgamesh will accept a good sum of money or an object of interest. His wine does not come cheap, but it is certifiably some good stuff. You’ll get it by the bottle. You better hope you know how to make yourself a wine key if you don’t have one.

II. Gilgamesh can and will refuse people at the drop of a hat. He is, again, a petty, fickle, and ill-tempered tyrant. Please check in with me on plurk ([plurk.com profile] immortowl), private message this journal, or flag me down on the specialized contact post (which also contains what he’d want) if you are planning on trying to get a hold of wine from him. Due to his nature, it is necessary to at least have some kind of interaction revolving around the subject of gathering wine from him. It does not have to be a log, but I am willing to have logs for days. It can just be quick action spam, if you’d prefer! He will not answer public messages or even slightly encrypted ones. You will have to privately contact him. In person. There are a few ways to do this that don’t involve knocking on his door at the Fire Suites (and I wouldn’t recommend that one – and part of it is because he’s not there often). That being said, only the first trade requires it! The following ones do not. All you will need to do is check-in with me to gather if anything has changed, if his mood is terrible, etc. from that point on.

III. We need a volunteer to discover this business. It is very likely that Gilgamesh planted a bottle or two in the existing black market in order to get interest going. If you would like your character to figure out where this came from, you’re more than welcome to sign yourself up! We can hash out specifics.

IV. Obviously, knowledge of this business can be spread ICly or assumed. Neither will advertise it nor confirm it publicly (again), so you have to be a little persistent. Your best bet is to just kind of follow the trail and go to the church. If you want the best bet of them all, talk to Kirei first. It is usually not best to contact Gilgamesh first. Always go through the priest first, is my general recommendation. If you want to give your characters a rough time, though, you’re welcome to throw them at Gilgamesh directly.

V. Even with the rations lifting on the 20th, Gilgamesh will still opt to sell his stows on the dl. Just in case things make a repeat. Mostly because he doesn’t want people busting down his door all the time when they feel like they want better wine, too, if I’m going to be exceptionally honest. He sells when he pleases.

VI. Also, again, I’m going to point you guys to his opt-out post on the off-chance you missed it. Gilgamesh, as you suspect, not a nice person – or a good one, for that matter. If you, at any point, would like wine from him and don’t want to interact with him (very understandable!), I am more than happy to work something out with you all. We can arrange it so someone else can pick it up, for example. I've endless work-arounds.

Congratulations on surviving this text wall, and thank you!

Costigan has black market ties already, would actually want to go to real church, and would be happy to try to pursue this lead.

That said, he will ICly be inclined to share things like this with other characters who may respond negatively, so I'm fine assuming he somehow missed this if you don't want it to be found out for more than a month. (I don't want to create a situation where I'm either being OOC or ruining your plot, you know?)

No problem!

I'm.. not entirely sure I understand what you're saying? Sorry. Costigan could definitely be involved with it lasting for months, but he would probably report it to the police at some point (and then they could choose to ignore it or to do something about it, which would be up to the MODs). Would you be okay with that as one of the potential consequences? Or we could chat more about other ideas and stuff too?

Harry will, of course, be your ally in this endeavour, Gilgamesh. He can also hook you up with tobacco in exchange for wine.

No apologies necessary—do what you need to do! I look forward to their association breeding interesting things.

... what if Robin ends up keeping an eye on it so that, if dangerous stuff starts coming out, he can (try to) shut it down?

Shh.
