Console Upgrades & You!
Hey there, turtle-ites!
Further to the Satellite Event that ended on May 30th, we are here to bring up the matter of console upgrades as a result of the salvaged tech!
Yes, that's right! Turns out that the technology salvaged from the ARSHEPHELIOS satellite cluster has roots in biomechanical systems not unlike the consoles employed in each suite here in Keeliai. That means that the spare parts could technically be mated with the existing units -- resulting in an upgrade to its capabilities!
While we know there are more than sufficient numbers of technologically-minded characters hanging around which could pull this off, we come with two very important questions to be answered first!
Nature of the Upgrade
We'd like to know what you'd like to see as the successful upgrade that will be applied to consoles! Based on general feedback received since we've opened, we've narrowed down the options to three. These three options shall be explained below and, once you've read this post, we'd love it if y'all could post a comment and give us your thoughts on which you'd prefer. Consider it a vote of sorts! Right now we're looking at approving only one upgrade, but are open to the possibility of two, so if you could rank them in order of preference, that'd be great!
So, without further ado, here are the options we're considering:
Text Translations
All texts posts made after the upgrade install would be automatically translated to the language of the user reading it. This feature would be personalised for each user and linked to their unique ID/console ID and therefore would not work for someone reading the posts from an anon console; however, if they went to their suite and read it from their home console, it would be translated.
Limited Portability
Small devices created from the technology could be used to make posts, but not reply to them, from anywhere on the turtle. These posts could be audio, video, or text-based and would hold to the previous rules (no auto-translate, no anon). Each device would be tuned in to the particular console it was coded to. So character A could take their device to the turtlehead, post a video entry, and then return to their console and make replies from there (or by logging into a console cafe with their ID). Posts made with this that had action or suite/cafe-based responses would count towards AC.
IC inboxes
The tech salvaged could be mated with the infrastructure of the consoles in order to provide the equivalent of an IC inbox that permits video, audio, and text messauges with the previous rules (no auto-translate, limited anon for messages left from anon consoles). This would be considered an "extra" feature with a standing post to be made in each character's journal to facilitate it. Any interactions in the IC inboxes could influence CR in game, but could not be used for AC on the grounds that it falls outside the posting/tagging/centralised system of the game (tracking and visibility).
Proponents of the Upgrade
And this brings us to the who of upgrade-ville! The actual upgrade process will not be run as an event; rather, it will be handled as a handwave on the mod level with the option for individual characters that are involved to thread out any stage of the process with each other if they so choose. Now, for that? We need to know who will be involved!
Which means, it's VOLUNTEERS TIME! 8D
There are 250 suites in Keeliai and that means even one upgrade will require a lot of manpower to make it so, Number One. We're looking for ten characters per upgrade (up to a potential total of twenty if we approve two upgrades) to design, test, and install these upgrades. What's in it for them? Prestige! CR! Bragging rights! This will not be an NPC-sanctioned thing, so there will be no IC rewards for doing this. IN THE EVENT THAT WE GET MORE THAN THE NECESSARY NUMBER OF VOLUNTEERS, WE WILL DRAW NAMES OUT OF HATS. NOT LITERALLY. THERE WILL BE NO HATS HARMED IN THE MAKING OF THIS MINI PLOT.
There is a subheader specifically for volunteers in the comments of this post. If your character would be inclined to help, please fill out the following form and post it. On June 10th we will post a list of the characters that will be officially involved in the upgrades.
The last two questions of in the form will have some influence on the selection in order to avoid too much duplication of skillsets. Please feel free to mention anything you feel relevant to your character and the upgrade.

UPGRADE VOLUNTEERS
no subject
Preferred Contact:
Volunteered Character: Clara Oswald
Would they lead the effort or follow it? Follow as she's still new
What skills or motivation do they bring to the upgrade effort? Clara is always eager to help and prove herself and is very keen on learning more about this place she's been pulled to. She has exceptional computer skills that mostly seem to center around hacking and programming. So she could help hack the satellite for information, write up a program, and install it on devices.

Preferred Contact:
Volunteered Character: Dick Grayson (Robin)
Would they lead the effort or follow it? Follow
What skills or motivation do they bring to the upgrade effort?
Skills:
Strong hacking ability, experience with technology, tech skills.
Motivations
Learn how the consoles actually work, learn more about the native tech of Tu Vishan, improve functionality and communication to help bring the foreigners together.
no subject
Preferred Contact:
Volunteered Character: Spock
Would they lead the effort or follow it? He could do either. Follow, because he's quite new. Lead, because he has experience being in charge and directing large groups. Whichever is needed!
What skills or motivation do they bring to the upgrade effort? He's always interested in information, and the chance to gut systems and try to figure out why they're compatible with an alien satellite would be right up his alley. He's very familiar with advanced technology, and is always shown to be skilled with machines and computers in particular.

Preferred Contact:
Volunteered Character: Bruce Banner
Would they lead the effort or follow it? More inclined to follow. Coding is not his area of expertise, but if told what to do he'd be a quick pupil. He could lead in the sense that he's been actively working on the recovered satellite technology, and could alert others to its potential.
What skills or motivation do they bring to the upgrade effort? Bruce has already been working on every bit of the tech he can get his hands on. Like I said, mechanical engineering is not his field, per se, but he's decently experienced in it and tends to be very good at seeing potential applications even if he can't enact them himself. He knows what's possible, and he has ideas, he just in this instance doesn't necessarily have the know how to do it all himself. He is, however, very motivated in anything that seems like a lead about their circumstances to him, and the satellite is definitely a lead. If in the process he happens to stumble upon tech improvements that could be made, well, okay, he can divert his attention long enough to crank that out. So you have one workaholic science supergenius on the job. :|b

Preferred Contact: PM to this account
Volunteered Character: Leo Valdez
Would they lead the effort or follow it? Follow!
What skills or motivation do they bring to the upgrade effort? Being the Son of Hephaestus. OK no seriously Leo knows all the mechanics ever and is a pretty fast worker? He has mad computer and technical skillz too he is basically the demigod equivalent of an all-around tech guy.

Preferred Contact:
Volunteered Character: qilby!
Would they lead the effort or follow it? he could lead! but he's only a little more inclined to follow, for reasons.
What skills or motivation do they bring to the upgrade effort? scientific progress, thy name is qilby (and we're all sorry for your unfortunate name.) invention is kind of his bag, and he's even got loads of experience with this sort of stuff -- he created what was basically computers/the internet in his canon, using... plants, or something. it's weird.
and if he gets to tinker around with stuff that fell from space to make this happen, all the better. space and space-related things are also his bag.

Preferred Contact:
Volunteered Character: Jane Shepard
Would they lead the effort or follow it? She tends to be a leaderly type! Organizing people and ordering them about is kind of her MO. But she can also follow when necessary.
What skills or motivation do they bring to the upgrade effort? Combined with her knowledge of high-tech stuff and her omni-tool, which is capable of running scans on things, hacking and decrypting, and field repairs, Shepard is pretty techy! And she would be very motivated to do anything that would give the Foreign population as a whole more information about this place, and potentially improve their way of life.
Re: UPGRADE VOLUNTEERS
Preferred Contact: IM or Plurk
Volunteered Character: Pepper Potts
Would they lead the effort or follow it? Generally follow and work on organizational efforts.
What skills or motivation do they bring to the upgrade effort? Pepper works for Stark Industries, so there but for Stark goes she. Her skills are more managerial and organizational. She'd leave the brilliance to the techs, but she can whip up a work scheduled and organize teams like no one business.

Preferred Contact:
Volunteered Character: Damian Wayne
Would they lead the effort or follow it? Follow
secretly. What skills or motivation do they bring to the upgrade effort? Skills: Extremely good engineering skills, as well as months-collected knowledge about what he could have learned about the local technology.
Motivation: He's a bat. He has to try to get his hand into every pot. Also he's frustrated with seeing things he can improve but being unable to improve them.

Preferred Contact: Wuzzafuzzle on AIM or Plurk
Volunteered Character: Roy Harper
Would they lead the effort or follow it? He could definitely lead it, as mechanical engineering shit is like his favorite hobby ever and that's kind of what he is to his team in canon, but he can to following too if it's needed
What skills or motivation do they bring to the upgrade effort? just going to c/p some shit from app abilities because i'm a lazy shit, lololol: Not only is Roy familiar with a lot of advanced technology due to having spent a lot of time around devices from Q-Core, but he’s talented with computer hacking as well (apparently was in jail once for hacking Queen Industries main R&D hub??) Also, Roy is like the team driver. Anytime there’s a ship involved, Roy is piloting, and he’s even given really valid, helpful advice for managing systems on a starship he’s not the least bit familiar with. He’s also installed computer programs to the ship they took from Crux and has been seen doing maintenance to the ship. He also creates all of his own trick arrows and knick-knacks, so that’s a good indication of how handy he is.
Re: UPGRADE VOLUNTEERS
Preferred Contact:
Volunteered Character: Tim Drake
Would they lead the effort or follow it? Follow (He doesn't want to call a lot of attention to himself)
What skills or motivation do they bring to the upgrade effort? Tim is very techie, more than a bit of a hacker, and very interested in learning more about the technology behind the consoles. He'd jump at any excuse to play with them a bit.
no subject
Preferred Contact:
Volunteered Character: Wally West
Would they lead the effort or follow it? Follow
What skills or motivation do they bring to the upgrade effort? Wally's good at improvising with mechanical things. He's gave his teammates instructions for constructing an EMP device out of pieces of a medical imaging machine and he's worked on vehicles. He wouldn't be able to help with any software issues.
Sorry about the doublepost - apparently tablets like to be temperamental buggers. Also! Forgot to say, that if my being on hiatus puts me out of this, then it's all cool.
Re: UPGRADE VOLUNTEERS
Preferred Contact:
Volunteered Character: Stocking Anarchy
Would they lead the effort or follow it? Follow, she's lazy
What skills or motivation do they bring to the upgrade effort? She's competent enough with computers to work the technology into consoles provided she sees some use for herself in it (so mainly, she wants the bragging rights).
no subject
Preferred Contact:
Volunteered Character: Tony Stark
Would they lead the effort or follow it? He's inclined to lead unless there are people already leading. Then he's willing to follow, but still full of initiative? He has a lot of energy.
What skills or motivation do they bring to the upgrade effort? TECH. It's something that potentially helps the community and makes people safer, and Tony right now is itching to do that. He wants to be useful, and the fact he's a technical genius would be all the motivation he needs. He can program and build things like a boss, including creating his own AIs. :D And he would want to encourage people to do positive things for the community as a whole.
no subject
Preferred Contact:
Volunteered Character: Namorita
Would they lead the effort or follow it? Follow on the tech end, potentially lead on the "organizing everyone and beating down egos" one
What skills or motivation do they bring to the upgrade effort? She has an Atlantean education, which makes her familiar with technology much higher than that of the surface, plus a bit of engineering talent runs in the family, but mostly she's just smart, able to follow directions, and to get people to work together even if they're huge prima donna jerks Namor.
no subject
Preferred Contact:
Volunteered Character: The Archive
Would they lead the effort or follow it? Follow, but if she reeaaally needed she'd lead
What skills or motivation do they bring to the upgrade effort? Her intelligence over 9000! She knows circuitry and stuff, plus a lot of tools for problem solving anything she doesn't already know.
no subject
Preferred Contact: Still
Volunteered Character: Peter Parker
Would they lead the effort or follow it? Follow!
What skills or motivation do they bring to the upgrade effort? Putting together/tinkering around with machines is Peter's specialty (see: fabulous web-shooters)! Plus he would be seriously interested in learning anything and everything about the consoles that he can, and when better to do that than when he's installing things in them?
