[Nothing but absolute disbelief is on Korra's face and she's thankful Toph can't see that.]

No, we never did. [Trying to come up with a good way to explain any of this was really pushing Korra's brain to the limit.]

But this place, this turtle really, exists between life, death, and dreams. Many different people from different worlds show up here. Or at least that's what they fed me when I first got here.

[She scratches her head knowing that this would probably sound weird to her.]

[No, but Toph can feel Korra's shock. And the fact she at least believed what she was saying. Which was generally enough for her. But... wow.

The toes of one foot absently tapped on the ground, not doing much damage at all, more an absent tick than anything. Bending was just too natural for her, at least when it came to earth. Metal was trickier, but she was getting there.

Then she smirked, showing yes. She realized it meant one of her best friends was dead just so this girl could be alive, but... no hard feelings.]

Do I get to know your name, or are you too high and mighty to tell the greatest earth bender what the next avatar's name is?

[Nope, she can't hold a laugh in at Toph's question. Greatest Earthbender wasn't exactly a modest title either.]

You got me. I'm Korra of the Southern Water Tribe. Nice to actually meet you Toph, I never even imagined it could happen since-

Well let's just say what you and the others did really left a big impression on the world. [There was no way she wanted to pelt Toph with facts about the future. That felt way too unfair and cruel.]

[Laughter meant she had an advantage. Modest? Toph Beifong? HA! She just grinned wider, arms remaining relaxed at her sides and head just slightly hanging as she listened attentively to everything.]

Big impression, huh? I like the sound of that. It's nice to meet you too, Korra. [Just as she didn't pelt Korra for facts about what happens after she dies. Wouldn't be fair, really. She wasn't there yet.]

[Even though Korra's been granted the title of earthbending master by the White Lotus, it really didn't feel like it now that she was seeing the real deal in person. Still she found Toph to be adorable as a teenager.] What was the last thing you remember doing before finding yourself here?

[Some, like Tarrlok, didn’t remember things after a certain point in their life. And it was an excellent excuse to hear what stories Toph may have been in the middle of. Because garbled down versions, even from Tenzin, weren’t going to be anything like the real thing.]

Aang was off to fight the Fire Lord. Ozai. [To be clear which fire lord, since Korra was from after her. And it was vague enough.]

[Korra knows better than to mess with a Beifong, she’s been on the receiving end of that mistake.]

Wow really!? [A quick cough to clear her throat and simply pretend she wasn’t excited just then.] I mean: Oh, so the Battle of Wulong Forest. [All Korra had were historical texts to go off of.]

Time is pretty much stopped until you return, or so they tell us, so you won’t miss anything. [And Korra would give everything to see how that fight actually happened.]

Oh, and don’t worry if you can’t read anything in the city. The kedan language isn’t easy to learn.
