Please specify in your post!

[Even though the bolt doesn't make contact, the man is sufficiently startled by it that he stumbles backward, staggering against the wall and only just catching himself. He seems to be not entirely control of his own limbs, awkward and frail.]

[He breaks off as he gets a look at Alcuin and is suddenly unsure whether to address this person as monsieur or mademoiselle. This is enough to stop him being petulant.]

I am afraid it can get very crowded around here, but it is less active at night at least. Are your quarters nearby?

[He doesn't look well, after all. Or at least, he doesn't look like he wants to be anywhere near the place.]
