Midwinter Masquerade Event!

MIDWINTER MASQUERADE OOC INFO

Midday, there is a knock at the door of your character’s suite. Those at home will find a kedan messenger with a square envelope in hand. Those not at home will find the same envelope left at their door. Inside the envelope, an invitation in elegant script reads the following in your character's native language:

Favrielle no Eglantine cordially invites you to join her in bidding farewell to the Winter and welcoming the new year at the Midwinter Masquerade on the Longest Night, December 21st.

The text goes on to indicate that this invitation is for your character and a companion of their choosing. It continues to explain that this is a formal event in which proper attire can be acquired from a number of designers and seamstresses in the Earth sector (a list has been included), and kindly requests a response should they plan to attend.

That’s right, everybody, the end of the year is approaching and Favrielle plans to send it off in style.

The Midwinter Masquerade is a yearly event held by the Night Court of Terre d’Ange on the Longest Night. The hours leading up to midnight are full of dancing, fine food and drink, and revelry, and at midnight all attendees will be treated to the traditional pageant representing the end of the old year and the start of the new.

For this event, formal masquerade wear is strongly encouraged and Favrielle has made arrangements with her contacts in the Earth sector so that formal costumes may be acquired at low cost to the foreigners. Your characters may seek out a seamstress, or Favrielle herself to have a costume designed, and then either she or one of her contacts will see out the construction and fittings of the garment. This process will also include the design of masks, shoes, and any other related accessories. When it comes to the clothing for this event, an elegant blend of formal wear and costume is what will be encouraged, as creatively as it can be done for the character in question.

At the event, your character can expect to find food and drink available to them, and while a drink called joie will be circulating around by servers, there will also be non-alcoholic drinks provided for any underage attendees. This event will be organized and set up to be appropriate for attendees of all ages.

And now, the part I am most looking forward to.

The following portion concerns any who are interested in some involvement in the event itself.

The Midwinter Masquerade has a pageant, with two characters played by attendees.

The first is the Winter Queen, who represents of course the Winter season, but also the year that has passed. She enters at the start of the event, masked so that no one may discern her identity, and remains so until midnight.

At midnight, the Sun Prince arrives, golden spear in hand, to herald in the end of Winter and the new year. It is at this point that everyone unmasks and toasts to the new year.

The roles of Sun Prince and Winter Queen are cast by the hostess. ICly, this is not something that your characters volunteer for, but are asked. To be the Sun Prince and the Winter Queen is to be given a great honor in Terre d’Ange and should be treated as such.

OOCly, I am looking for volunteers. This will not require more than a couple threads on the part of the Winter Queen, and one for the Sun Prince. Beyond that your characters would be free to mingle (in their own masquerade garb) during the event itself.

Traditionally a woman is cast for the Winter Queen and a man for the Sun Prince, however I am keeping an open mind on the matter so if you would be interested in volunteering your character to play a Winter King or a Sun Princess, that’s great as well! Additionally, I’m also open to the idea of people volunteering in pairs, which their characters would know about ICly or not, but I make no guarantees.

So, I think that covers the basics for now. There will be a great deal more information in the log post itself when the event happens.

EDIT: APPARENTLY IT SHOULD BE MENTIONED THAT LIKE, the pageant includes the Sun Prince giving the Winter Queen a ring. Because it's based on a myth or something that I...need to drag up still but yes.

Is there a specific theme/type of mask that will be provided for the event, or is it pretty much a free for all?

With regard to the Winter Queen (or potentially King) since they come in at the start do they have to stay in that costume for the whole ball, or do they just need to put in an appearance and then they can get changed into their regular costume?

I figure that's how it works but the "masked until the end of the night" is throwing me off a little?

Liz would be interested in a tuxedo or any other kind of classy suit. And she'd probably ask about getting a custom suit to fit Hellboy's... unique figure.

How about a plague doctor for Hawke. As for Logan, he'd want something simple if he has to wear a costume. Something he can escape as soon as he can. Probably a tux and mask.

And Hancock? Hancock does what he wants.

Charles could go to one of the suggested seamstresses and take their recommendation for a costume/mask.

It would have to be something fairly simple, given the state of his back and incorporate his cane. Is it safe to assume that something like white tie with a demi mask would be acceptable?

Kara would be wondering whether "formal attire" means "human formal attire" or "your native formal attire" because although there isn't much difference really it would determine whether I put her in something she would be comfortable in, or if I put her in something she will look gorgeous in but wouldn't pick out for herself. C:

Still at a bit of a loss as to what exactly to have Zatanna wear. I do have plenty of ideas for formal wear to fall back on, if I can't think of just the right costume. But it never hurts to ask for a few extra opinions.

The only stipulation is, obviously, that it should be something age-appropriate. AND NO PUFFY PRINCESS DRESSES, GDI BATDAD
