TEST DRIVE MEME - TU SHANSHU EDITION!

Itching to try out writing a character? Then rev up your engines, grab your accounts, and slam your way into this meme! Here is a venue for you to try out whatever character there might be tickling your fancy, from fandom to OC, for as few as one and as many as MANY. Seriously, there's no limit.

How do you partake in this fantastic congregation of character testing? Why, by following these simple steps:

1. Comment with the journal of a character you want to test; put their name and canon in the subject line for added sparkles.
2. Tag around with everyone!
3. Profit like you live on a the back of a turtle!
4. Maybe even reserve so you CAN live on the back of a turtle!

But wait, there's more! For the low, low price of $9,999.99, you can even use one of our handy prompts when you tag someone. You could even pick one with a Random Number Generator to help decide which prompt to go with!

1. A Chance Meeting at the Turtle's Head.
   Remember, being here causes a great sense of-- well, shall we say inner peace.
2. Haggling Over Something in the Marketplace!
   Maybe someone else saw the exact same shiny thing you did at the exact same moment! However shall this be resolved? Remember: blood is extremely hard to scrub off of turtleshell!
3. Have Met Before? Because I Could've Sworn I've Seen You In My Dreams.
   Have you wandered into the realm of Dreaming via an archway in Keeliai? Here, everything is shaped to your character's individual mind. Dreams can be shared between characters and will result in a meshing of minds. These dreams can be positive or negative, depending on your character.
4. Will You Be Mine(d)?
   Exploring the turtleside may lead into old, abandoned mines with very old relics to be unearthed beneath the earth. Erm, shell. But be careful! Aggressive, rodent-like creatures are known to hide deep in these mines and they fear only one thing: The swan-lizard-like creatures known as swizards.
5. Walking in a Winter Wonderland
   Tu Vishan's entered colder waters and snow now abounds all over the turtle. Are you out enjoying the cold? Maybe trying on some extra warm layers of clothing? Building a snow turtle for the kids to play with? Then this option's for you!
6. WILDCARD!
   Go nuts. Suddenly your character is fighting dragons! Good God, they've found the Millennium Falcon drifting in the ocean! Do you really feel the need to polish every paving stone in the Earth Sector? Please note, Wildcard options are also what you can choose to do if you aren't yet comfortable in the Tu Shanshu setting and would prefer a more 'dear-mun' esque experience. Please specify in your post!

[Okay, it was cold. Not as cold as Moscow back when he called there home, but close enough. Still, he was dressed only in his usual all-black, all leather outfit as he explored the turtle, sticking out from the snow like a sore thumb.

Every so often he mutters "door" under his breath...

[Can't blame a guy for trying indeed. Apollo's done a sweep of the turtle from the air, soaking in the sunlight as he occasionally tries to call up a Door again, but, well, that's not exactly working.

It doesn't take him long before he spots Midnighter down on the ground, all black amidst the snow, and he lowers himself to hover over the snow, smiling fondly.]

You look a little cold.

[Smiles a bit when he sees Apollo land. It's easier to be stuck on a giant magical turtle when you're with your husband.]

I've been colder.

Anything?

[So much easier. Though the whole giant turtle thing is kind of neat in a novel 'never seen this before' way. (It's better than a giant shitball in space, or a giant monster, etc.) He touches down in the snow, and it starts to melt around his legs as he steps closer and slides an arm over his shoulders, putting off warmth.]

Mm, nothing yet. It is indeed a giant turtle and there is indeed a barrier around it. Nothing but water on all sides as far as I can tell.

[Mmmm warm. Midnighter wraps his arms around Apollo and gives him a kiss.]

Fantastic. This was exactly how I wanted to spend my Christmas.

[Apollo is pretty amenable to kisses. He kisses him back, happy to press close. Who says you can't take a minute out of recon once in a while?]

What, you're not excited about the Christmas turtle cruise in the middle of backwater nowhere? [Teasing, of course, because let's be real, he's not thrilled with this either.]

[He might be jealous you can recon as much as you can.]

Can't say I am. Unless this lady emperor's some kind of despot... [Because overthrowing despot's is his hobby.]

[All he has to do is ask and hubby will take him for a fly around the turtle.]

She might be, we don't know for sure yet. I mean she is trafficking people from other universes here to use as soldiers.

I've heard rumors everyone here might be clones, so maybe not.

Great. Things keep getting better. Okay, she's amassing an army of clones, then, that's still not a sign of a benevolent ruler. [Husband is on board with the whole 'take down the Emperor' thing. Turtle vacation is bullshit.]

And taking over the US was our smartest move. Look, you know I'm as for killing dictators as anyone, but... something's not right. It... it's not adding up. So hold off on vaporizing her for now.

[So maybe she's not a door, but she still 'poofs' in front of her father apparently out of nowhere. To be completely honest he had seen him on the other side of the street (hard to miss all that black outfit surrounded by snow), the teleporting in front of him is mostly done for a show because that's how she rolls.]

Do I have to quote Einsten's definition of insanity at you? It didn't work the first time, did it?

[She tilts his head] So, what now? I can teleport anywhere outside this goddam thing, and the doors won't open for me either.

[Laughs at that.] You know Apollo's going to go through with that threat to wash your mouth out with soap if you keep that shit up, right?

Now we wait for Angie to figure out we're missing, since Jack's reaction would probably be to throw a party. And in the meantime figure out what the fuck is going on here.

Maybe if you say it enough, it'll actually happen.

[Busted. Apollo is sitting at a nearby table, his newly bought art supplies spread out across it. He looks up from arranging his paint brushes with a smile.]

You have to admit, this isn't the worst vacation we've ever had.

A guy can hope, can't he?

No, the worst vacation we ever had was that time you dragged me to Lance Bass' memorial concert and I was stuck listening to every fucking boy band in existence for two days.

[Worst for him, anyway. He glances back at his husband and notices the art supplies.]

Jesus wept, Apollo, you certainly didn't waste any time.

And yet afterward you never once bitched about my Doris Day movie marathons. I consider that a win. [He then proceeds to hum a few bars of Secret Love because he can.]

Why should I? If we have to wait around here for He-Who-Shall-Not-Be-Named to make his move, we might as well be comfortable. [Despite warnings Apollo couldn't care less about saying the name. But the reference is too perfect to pass up using and he isn't looking to anger the locals on his first day.]

Because I was already in hell. [Really, Apollo? Really? Why is he married to you again?]

[Apollo looks up at him with mock hurt.] I thought those wee great bonding experiences. Cosmo told me as much. [He enjoys needling Midnighter like this so much.]

I don't know. [He shrugs.] It doesn't seem likely. But on the other hand, everyone in this place seems to believe it. There might be some merit to it.

Note to self: destroy Cosmo when we get home.

I've been uneasy since we got here. And... I can't put my finger on why.

You do realize I share that subscription with Angie and Shen, right?

[Apollo's expression takes a turn for the serious. As unconcerned as he may be about the situation, he trusts Midnighter's instincts.] You think maybe there's something we're not being told?

Never said anything about the subscription.

[Returns the look.] When is anyone ever truthful about how fucked up their society is?

[He considers this briefly.] Point taken. It would only be to their benefit to downplay the situation and give the rest of us a fighting hope.

So I guess the big question is whether or not they expect us to succeed in this war of theirs.

This thing, the way they're talking about it... They're making it sound like "god." This isn't a political squabble they want swept under the rug.
