GAME ITINERARY | MARCH 2017

Hello chelonauts, here is a fresh new itinerary post! Previous months can be found under this tag.

Here's what we've got lined up for March 2017:

Weather

As Tu Vishan moves, angling farther to the south than he has been, and the world turns, the weather finally begins to lighten. Grey clouds still remain in the sky, naturally, but there are more and more sunbreaks, and the rains that fall are light, not torrential. The temperature remains cool, warming slightly out of being downright chilly most of the month. It's promising both for the hydroponics and for the efforts to salvage something of a crop after the hurricane.

Toward the end of the month, there are a number of unusually brilliant rainbows, which the members of the Ban Om will quickly claim is clear proof that the Great Turtle is pleased with how things are going in the city. If you think that's a little bit of a stretch of association, you're not the only one.

Kedan/Foreigner Relations

Between the recovery from the hurricane and the increased business brought to many merchants thanks to the influx of Foreigners, opinions are remaining fairly positive, despite the obligatory outliers. However, for some kedan this goes above and beyond, and certain people can be found being especially nice to many of the Foreigners. There's no evident reason why yet.

Conversely, it may sometimes be possible to see small groups of kedan arguing quietly in public spaces, but if anyone asks them about it or approaches, they're given no answer or the subject is immediately changed.

Local Events

THE INFLUX PERSISTS...

The turn into March doesn't have much effect on the advent of visiting Foreigners; they're still coming, weaving in and out of the world like the Dreaming that brought them. By the eleventh of the month, however, the last of them will have returned to their homes, and the city will have receded into its usual, less-busy state of carefully balanced peculiarity.

In the wake of the mass departure of Foreigners, however, the Dreaming immediately appears to calm, almost cease to act on the Life plane entirely. Items stop coming and going, and those who study the Dreaming find it to be less responsive for the remainder of the month. Strangely, it seems that people may be experience fewer dreams while sleeping, too, although this is much harder to quantify. On the whole, there's little concern about this - the Dreaming shifts and changes often, and this is just another vagary. Some few kedan express worry at the abrupt halt, but they're willing to wait and see what happens in the coming months before passing judgement.

Following the last of the Foreigner's departure on the 11th, the instances of Dreaming oddities actually appear to settle down, with fewer random objects disappearing, and less "glitch" moments in people's perceptions. The coincidental timing with the extraneous Foreigners' disappearances is basically impossible to miss, and some kedan make the joke that the Dreaming managed to tire itself out! It sounds silly on the surface, but there may be something to it.

Log Note: 4th Wall will not have a mod-posted event log.

LET IT GROW, LET IT GROW

With preparations for the hydroponics and greenhouse expansions almost complete, the assembly and construction of grow towers and the facilities that will hold them is finally underway in full force. While the greenhouse expansion is primarily outside the city, there is still a wide call for volunteers to assist with the operation. Hydroponics facilities are going up both within the city walls and beyond them, and there are grow hubs in several sectors that need help with just about everything.

As perishable food, particularly fresh vegetables, have been in short supply recently, there is a huge need for help with these projects, and while participation is not mandatory, those who are asked to assist and refuse may get the cold shoulder from some kedan. Those who do participate may even be able to get smaller hydroponics systems for their households, although not without paying a moderate cost.

Log Note: Let it Grow will have a mod-posted event log.

NPCs & Families

There are movements among the various family groups and the loose Council, but nothing really concrete. All that lingers is a general sense of unsettlement among the governmental body, no matter that they continue to attempt to present a united front.

There have been rumours of occasional smaller, private meetings among the Council though nothing concrete has really gotten out. But Rosyn, Usayi and Kyde are definitely not meeting out of any particular camaraderie.

KUHIE & KIUEU
The Ban Om siblings are proving themselves to be proficient in the art of the PR spin game, and are managing to attribute even the seemingly most random things to Tu Vishan's benevolence. The thing is? It's working, and the number of kedan which have "joined" their temple has been increasing every month. There's been a few incidents of people getting a little too overzealous, to the point where they want to keep meditating at the Turtle's Head and not go home at all, but Kuhie and Kiueu are quick to inform everyone that such behaviour isn't what the Ban Om advocate, and not what the Great Turtle would want. With the limited amount of produce that's available, the temple members can sometimes be found in the garden beside the temple, using it as a sort of bartering market in trading to help share the remaining fresh food between them.

KYDE
Kyde has been out and about, much to the detriment of his already loose schedule. He’ll be talking animatedly with Foreigners and Kedan alike about changes they’d like to see in the city and how current establishments can be improved.

The middle of the month will see him back on schedule with lessons at the college when his superiors explain, very patiently, that no, you cannot just keep running amok as you please. There may also be a significant decrease in the number of explosions that may or may not have to do with receiving a bill for all the property damage.

MILYN
The Cherrywood Healer has elected to extend her stay out in the abandoned fishing village near the shell's edge through March, except it's seeming a little less abandoned these days with approximately two dozen kedan there. They range across all ages and genders, and they're staying in a handful of the least-ruined buildings. Most go about daily business as much as they're able without the stable power grid and conveniences of Keeliai, and the kedan kids are definitely treating this like a fun camping trip.

If asked, the kedan will shrug and say that the Healer offered volunteers for this project of hers a nice sum of juulan for participating, and all they had to do was live in this old village for a few weeks. Easy!

ODYNI
With the bulk of the repairs being finished up, Odyni will be going around to Foreigner housing and businesses to remind them that the free repair cost tokens do have an expiry, and that the Merchant's Guild will only honour them for a limited time to make sure that people aren't taking advantage of this generosity by creating damages themselves. If that sounds pointed, she'll just shrug and say that it's not an unknown possibility, and that the Guild is covering its interests from potential abuse from Foreigner OR kedan sources.

ROSYN
While Rosyn continues to be visible, she is somewhat busier this month in private meetings. These sometimes occur at the Shaded Lantern, but she can be seen visiting some of the other major businesses all over the city. There doesn't appear to be a pattern to it. Her general air of irritation doesn't quite abate until the latter half of the month, although she's rarely short when in the presence of a Foreigner - the opposite in fact. Foreigners are often the only people she's entirely pleasant with.

Those Foreigners who have friends and family present during the influx of temporary Foreigners may note that they're observed by either Rosyn or her staff, always from a distance and never appearing to really hide the fact of their observation. They'll even happily chat with anyone who confronts them, although they won't be able to explain why they're watching that person - apparently, none of the staff know why they're supposed to do so, either, and will direct them to Rosyn.

USAYI
It seems like it may pain him, but Usayi is seen on several independent occasions being nice, with no influence of alcohol or blackmail. If approached pointlessly he'll still snap like it was any other day, naturally, but he's more willing to hear people out.

He is, however, spending significantly more time in his shop than he has been for some weeks. Apart from the tailoring, he doesn't seem to be involved in as much this month, with so much of the hurricane cleanup progressing well.. Perhaps he's taking a well-deserved break.

Economy

The Economy, while not doing well, is at least not doing well consistently. The influx of Foreigners has certainly seen a bit of a boost, but most perishables are at an all-time high. The fishing industry seems to be doing much better as the Turtle sails into warmer waters, however, although a good portion of the catch is smoked or otherwise processed to last longer and bridge the gap in provisions. There is a hope that the ramp up in hydroponics will help ease the limited availability of fresh vegetables in particular.

Crime

Gang activity seems to have leveled out this month what with the finishing touches being put on repairs after the hurricane. The looting, however, has left many Kedan a bit suspicious of their neighbors as there are some who used the increase in gang activity as a cover for their own furtive operations.

Crime just doesn’t doesn’t pay, kids.

Technology

The random flatulence fluctuations of the Dreaming has caused occasional blips in signal with the newer devices. Occasionally one may only pick up static for an hour or two before returning to working normally.

The ramp up in hydroponic growing facilities and the expansion of the greenhouses has helped drive some minor technological improvements in food production. Advances in automation are focused on heavily, as maintaining the balance of water, light, and nutrients can be tricky at this large a scale. All in all, there's a small boost to manufacturing in the city.

International

KIN'NAL

In the wake of the Kin'nal departing from Keeliai entirely, there's something of a vacuum. There's no immediate replacement for them and for the service positions many held. With all of the other tumult of the past month, their absence hasn't much been noticed, but now many of the tasks that they got done are falling by the wayside. Things like street cleaning and minor repairs are simply not getting done in certain areas, especially in the Sky Sector where many had been occupying empty Foreigner housing. Other tasks are similarly going untended, and it may come to people's attention that they were getting rather spoiled and need to reassign those tasks before it gets out of hand.

OOC Information

4TH WALL WRAP UP

As a reminder, 4th Wall will wrap up on March 11, the last day of the event and the day when the fourth-wall characters will ICly disappear from the city.

After that point, posting access will be maintained for any guest characters up until March 20th, to allow any threads still being played out to finish up. However, we do request that no 4th wall characters tag any posts dated March 12th and onward, as ICly their characters would have left the city by that point.

So that's our outline for the month of March! If you have any questions about these happenings, please use the Questions comment below. Otherwise, this post is free space for monthly OOC plotting.
