"If I did harm anyone, as I've already told your friend Valdis here, I'd deserve any punishment you saw fit to mete out," Devin said evenly, lowering his hands but keeping them visible. "Your apology is unnecessary, as is the threat. I've been subject to the brutality of my species, too. Repeatedly, and long before I learned to defend myself."

He wasn't after sympathy, but he knew it was difficult to believe that he killed his own. Regardless, he was still a monster, even if he hunted other monsters.
