GAME ITINERARY | OCTOBER 2016

Hello chelonauts, here is a fresh new itinerary post! Previous months can be found under this tag.

Here's what we've got lined up for October:

Weather

Even though the turtle's moving once more, and no longer stuck in the cooler portions of the world, there's still some crispness in the air with the onset of autumn. There are a smattering of cool rains through the early parts of the month, which turn to a dryer chill as Tu Vishan changes direction and approaches land. Those who have been on the turtle for more than a year will probably appreciate the lighter fall weather, but even the kedan who chart weather patterns across Konryu for a hobby will ponder that this seems warmer than average given that they just left Evidet, where it was snowy most of the year.

Kedan/Foreigner Relations

Kedan and Foreigner relations remain cordial for the time being. The Police Force’s transparency (and for someone like Usayi to be willing to work with the Foreigners) has restored some good will. Things have settled down for now and only those that have always grumbled continue to do so.

Tensions with regards to the Cultists remain high, however. Concerns about Dust (and it's far more potent counterpart Red Mist) are still at the forefront of everyone’s mind, and even Foreigners not involved with the investigations may find Kedan stopping them in the streets and asking about how things are progressing.

Local Events

ONE POT, TWO POT

Red pot, blue pot! One good thing about the wet, temperate weather pattern throughout the month, is that it's making a perfect conditions for gathering a particular type of clay that's used to make a lot of the pottery vessels in Keeliai. It's gathered in large, keg-like barrels and hauled back to the city, where the many artisans of the Earth Sector spend days making them into every conceivable shape: bowls and plates, vases and pitchers, decorative stands and lantern holders. Once dried and cured, these unfinished pieces will be set out on long tables that line many of the Earth Sector streets, free to be taken by anyone.

It's customary to take a ware, paint it yourself and return it to the maker to be glazed and fired, and then pick it up with a couple juulan for a tip. Although this is intended primarily as an easy way to replace oft-broken and chipped housewares, this is also the livelihood of many Earth Sector artists.

Many kedan will encourage the Foreigners to participate, whether they need the resulting pottery or not. Gatherings of kedan will take place in many places: cafes, parks when the weather cooperates, even those with generously roomed houses. Painting and decorating the pottery is as much a social event as a practical one, and with paint supplied free, there's little reason not to try it out.

Log Note: The potting event will not have a mod-posted event log.

LANDFALL - OCT 20

The next landfall event will begin on Oct 20th, but will have some lead-up things happening. There will be a separate OOC post detailing landfall happenings going up approximately a week beforehand.

Log Note: The landfall will have a mod-posted event log.

NPCs & Families

Things continue to be going as smoothly as can be expected, considering the differences in personality between the new city mediaries. Their agendas are, for the most part, still a mystery to the Foreigners... and in some cases, even to their fellow kedan.

MILYN
The Cherrywood Healer is making an uncharacteristic move this month, and calling for an ultimatum: either someone formally accuse her of a crime, or she's innocent of them, full stop. The hardline stance even has some of the kedan doing a double take, especially given Milyn's typically flighty behaviour, and more than a few have speculated that putting forward this stipulation must not have originally been her idea.

AROYAN
Aroyan is mostly absent this month, and rumours floating around are that he's come down with a fairly serious illness that's keeping him homebound. If Foreigners need standard things requiring input from the Merchant's Guild, they can be directed through his proxy, a young woman named Odyni, but anything needing a senior partner's approval, like securing loans for a new business, or purchasing property, will need to wait until Aroyan returns to work.

USAYI
Pursuing his previously stated goal of unity and rebuilding, for every endeavor Usayi gets involved in, he at least makes an effort to reach out and include one or more Foreigners. This extends to organizing hunting and fishing parties when they're on land -- there's genuine effort to get Foreigners and kedan working together, no matter that Usayi looks like he's swallowed half a lemon every time he makes the effort.

He's also been heard to grumble about Kyde, but that seems to be more a general thing than any specific grievance.

Generally this month, if there's a cause that involves the betterment of the city, Usayi will be there, encouraging people to work together and putting his own hands to the task just as well.

ooc: if your character would be involved with this, feel free to assume Usayi has approached them with moderately bad grace; if you'd like something more specific, go ahead and pm [personal profile] ironpeace for details and/or threading.

ROSYN
Rosyn continues to make herself available throughout the month, spending a fair amount of time in the Courtyard of Public Opinion and the Sky Sector when not running her business in the Fire Sector. She’s not currying favor, but doing what she always does: paying attention. At the sight of continued public protests or outcry in the streets, Rosyn or one of her more trusted employees can often be found observing on the sidelines. A few times she even intervenes with a cutting remark that alternately produces red cheeks or snickering from the assembled kedan. The new construction project is of particular interest to her, although no one really seems to know why.

Her office hours remain open to all, though visitors may occasionally receive gentle ribbing from her staff before being shown in, which may or may not be a form of screening Rosyn actively employs. She treats Foreigners and kedan largely with the same blunt, straightforward manner regardless of station in these meetings, and perhaps even moreso with her fellow council members.

KYDE
Kyde is a busy little bee this month and he’s looking to replicate the process of creating the highly unstable Red Mist. The loud blasts from his laboratory and the grumbling of anyone he’s roped into assisting him would indicate that much at least.

When not in the lab, he can be found aimlessly wandering the halls of the college with massive bags under his eyes and muttering about ‘something missing’. When he mistakes a flask of a strong base for his tea and nearly drinks it, he opts to take a vacation a week before landfall.

This ‘vacation’ will probably involve heckling Foreigners, or joining Usayi on one of his fishing ventures.

KUHIE & KIUEU
The Zealous Siblings are in high demand this month, as they're capitalizing on the recent activity with the cultists, claiming that the cultists would have far less of a foothold, and therefore less able to orchestrate such attacks, if the faith in the Great Turtles was stronger. As a result, the construction project of their new temple which was begun the previous month is still going strong. If anything, they're getting a few extra volunteers this month, and they're still welcoming any Foreigner who wants a bit of extra cash.

OOC: If you are interested in your character participating, please drop a comment on this post OR send a PM to [personal profile] irondawn

Economy

The economy isn’t terrible, despite the lack of trade. Prices on perishables are up, what with winter fast approaching and the mediocre harvest in September. Luxury goods and raw materials are also fairly pricey this month. The smarter merchants are making a killing at the moment, and by the middle of the month, there’s a fair bit of grumbling about price gouging.

The prospect of landfall sees prices dip back down to something reasonable though.

Crime

The cultists have been settling down to a dull roar this month, but their previous attacks have done their job in the responses to them. Most of the edginess this month can be directly traced back to the cultists and the rumors of their plans. Some are spotted, here and there, and in fact some Foreigners managed to track some more of them down recently, which has the cultists increasing their subtlety efforts.

All the same, the general lack of activity from them has the feeling of the stillness before a strong wind, not genuine peace, and most of the kedan are of the same opinion. If they're quiet, it's for a reason.

Reflecting the cultist task force and the correspondingly increased police activity, many of the gangs will also be lying low this month, reducing their obvious actions. Crime is, sort of, down, though those groups are still noticeably present.

Technology

This month has the College in an excited tizzy, as they make the announcement that they're close to finalizing a design for the new mobile communication devices with the help of both Foreigner input and the technology from Hatal. Once they've done a final round of test, naming in determining the range and clarity of signal (there are some things which seem to interrupt them -- for example, the fire fountains tend to short them out completely) but they're aiming for a public live demonstration as soon as they're ready.

So that's our outline for the month of October! If you have any questions about these happenings, please use the Questions comment below. Otherwise, this post is free space for monthly OOC plotting.
