Itching to try out writing a character? Then rev up your engines, grab your accounts, and slam your way into this meme! Here is a venue for you to try out whatever character there might be tickling your fancy, from fandom to OC, for as few as one and as many as MANY. Seriously, there's no limit.
How do you partake in this fantastic congregation of character testing? Why, by following these simple steps:
→ Comment with the journal of a character you want to test; put their name and canon in the subject line for added sparkles. → Tag around with everyone! → Profit like you live on a the back of a turtle! → Maybe even RESERVE so you CAN live on the back of a turtle! But wait, there's more! For the low, low price of $9,999.99, you can even use one of our handy prompts when you tag someone. You could even pick one with a Random Number Generator to help decide which prompt to go with!
- Haggling Over Something in the Marketplace!
Maybe someone else saw the exact same shiny thing you did at the exact same moment! However shall this be resolved? Remember: blood is extremely hard to scrub off of turtle shell!
- Dramatic Chase Sequence!
You're running away from something! It could be anything, from a rampaging kirin to a gaggle of overly enthusiastic children! One way or another, you can't stop, and much like a katamari ball, you feel obligated to grab everyone in your path along the way to keep them out of danger! Or perhaps you're more the sort to try and knock them into it as a distraction...?
- Where There's A Will, There's A...?
The Life and Dreaming Planes have been merged, and sometimes what starts out as wishful thinking becomes lured into reality. That slick new motorcycle or pile of kingly treasure you were just daydreaming about? Surprise! It's just appeared in front of you. Though, it may only stay for a short while before it disappears again, so make it count. Hopefully you're not the type to daydream about terrible things befalling people you don't like...
- SECRET UNDERCOVER MODE ACTIVATE!
The three major kedan families all have their own agendas, and you've chosen to entangle yourselves with one (or more!) of them. Are you hoping to shift the balance of power? Gain some favours? Perhaps you're on a mission to bring a criminal to justice, or maybe you just want to get the cream of the crop from the black market. Maybe you haven't been hired by them at all, but are using their name for your own goals... as long as no one discovers the lie!
- Wait... you want my what now?!
The kedan are a curious folk, and the Foreigners are entertainment in conveniently arriving packages, especially when they come along with unique items that the kedan might not have seen before. Maybe it's your cellphone... or maybe it's your knickers! How badly do you want to keep your stuff from some overeager native shapeshifters who want to buy, bribe, or burglarize it right off your person?
- Sea prunes, get your sea prunes right here!
Life in Keeliai can take a little getting used to: the chickens have scales, the cows have feathers, and the fruits come in more colour and pattern combinations than your average tye-dye shirt. Not to mention that meal you just ordered from the food vendor? Has arrived on the plate, and you're pretty sure you just saw it move.
- Everybody needs a little darkness...
The Great Enemy may have been defeated over two years ago, and people are even willing to speak Malicant's name aloud now, but there remains a taint in the city never fully purged. Those who consider Malicant a dark god whose end was unjust are the cultists of Keeliai, and they aren't always so easy to identify as one might think. Sometimes their presence is felt in the growing urge to give into one's darker instincts, especially in such a foreign place...
- Illicit substances, anyone?
Every city has its vices, and Keeliai is no different. Perhaps you actively sought it out, or perhaps an opportunistic dealer saw you as a potential customer needing a free sample, but you're now in possession of a packet of Lucid, an emotion-enhancing drug. Interested in finding out what happens when you crush that colourful crystal and ingest it?
- Incoming!
Tu Vishan's latest landfall stop has brought an unwelcome problem to its residents: enormous, toothy creatures who look more like pterosaurs than most people are comfortable with! With a twenty-foot wingspan, these aren't exactly harmless local wildlife, and they have a nasty habit of swooping down on targets both Foreigner and kedan! How are you going to fend them off, or help someone who might have been injured by the latest dive bombing??
(Please note: This scenario isn't applicable to becoming game canon if you choose to app your character, as an alien pterosaur attack is a major event.)
- WILDCARD!
Go nuts. Suddenly your character is fighting dragons! Good God, they've found the Millennium Falcon drifting in the ocean! Do you really feel the uncontrollable urge to polish every paving stone in the Earth Sector? Anything goes!

graves ( hustle cat )
[ so you were just minding your own business, maybe seated on a park bench or at an outdoor cafe.. reading the paper, or else someone left the paper there before you arrived. either way, suddenly there's a patter, and a black cat has jumped up next to said paper. with bright, surprisingly stunning mismatched eyes, he stares at you for a few moments before slinking closer, glancing down at the text in apparent interest.
ah... is he reading it..??? ]
( b )
[ this is a nice little cafe, isn't it? nice and sunny, and the pastries are to die for. .. ok but seriously where did this new cat come from? it looks like he just wandered in at some point during the morning rush, and now he's sunning in the window like he belongs there. still, for a cat, he's paying an awful lot of attention to the people working there and the various customers. his ears keep flicking back and forth as he listens to the conversations going on in the store.
.. well.. honestly, he's probably not the strangest thing you've ever seen here.. right? ]
( c )
[ there's a slender man in what appears to be his late thirties or early forties just inside the alley you're about to pass. he's slumped sideways a little against the wall, a cane hooked over the arm that's currently crossed over his chest. he looks like he might be having trouble breathing, or perhaps he's dizzy.
still, when he glances up, it's probably a little difficult not to do a double-take. he has the most stunning, jewel-bright heterochromia.. and it's might just be a little familiar, if you've encountered a certain black cat at any point in the last day or two.
he manages a small, slightly strained smile-- an obvious and vain attempt to pretend he's fine. er.. maybe he needs a doctor or something? ]
c! 0u0
But something catches their eye, this time - some movement - and they look. A particular thin, gaunt frame that they never thought they'd see again meets their eyes...and so do those eyes, one blue, one gold.]
G...Graves...?
no subject
he straightens with a little effort, attempting to look more presentable. he certainly doesn't want to worry someone he knows. ]
Good afternoon, Avery. [ he hesitates, stepping out of the alley, the hand not holding his cane brushing his sweater down. ] --At least, I presume that you are Avery, and not a sibling or an otherworld-almost-double.
no subject
[Avery's beginning to tremble; it's a little much, seeing your boss and mentor acting perfectly fine after they were a Rust statue.] Are...are you okay? You look like you're hurt!
no subject
[ the length of the hair, the frame, even the skin-tone is slightly off. avery's eyes are still very familiar, at least.
but.. ah. yes. about that. ] I.. [ his fingers tighten over the head of the cane. ] I'm certain I'll manage, Avery. You needn't be concerned.
no subject
But when Graves tries to give them the brush-off, their eyes harden.] No. No way. You're coming back to the cafe with me and telling me what the hell is going on! Last time I saw you, Nacht had turned you into a Rust statue in an alley! You're not getting rid of me that easy!
[They sound angry, but frightened, too, and there are tears in their eyes. What the hell is going on?]
no subject
[ a mild, feline blink follows that outburst, and graves' brows arch. ]
And it seems as if that isn't the only thing. Oh dear. [ he hesitates, then reaches to gently brush a knuckle beneath avery's eye, mouth quirking up faintly. ] As you can see, I am not a statue of rust. However.. [ he trails off uncertainly, hand drawing back. ] I fear that Nacht is still at the center of my troubles.
no subject
Then they shake their head, trying to dispel the tears.] You can tell me at the cafe. All about Nacht and the rest of it, and why you're hurt, or...whatever. I can't work Hayes' fancy machine, but I can still make regular coffee. Only cat we have now is Mochi, though...I've been looking for the Countess, but I haven't found her.
no subject
The cafe. [ between the mention of mochi and dracula, it isn't hard to sort out just which cafe avery means. ] You mean my cafe? Good heavens, what is it doing here of all places? [ and where is his countess, if the cafe itself--and presumably his apartment--is here? concern twists his mouth into a small frown. ] Lead the way. --Have you been leaving food out for her, just in case?
no subject
I've been leaving food out, just in case. None of the other cats have shown up. I only found Mochi last week, but the food hadn't been touched and he didn't look like he'd been on the streets.
no subject
still, hearing that the food hasn't been touched brings his attention back to the present. he lifts fingers to touch his lips as they walk, worried. .. she wouldn't just wander off. but then, being away from him for what sounds like weeks would have been difficult for her, and she's already so old-- ]
I can only pray that wherever she is, she's safe and dry and well-fed. [ the idea of losing dracula is often in the back of his mind, but.. it's difficult, so very difficult. she's managed to get him through some of the worst times in his life. ]
no subject
I bet she is, if she's here. The people here are really nice. And I told them to bring any cats they find to me, so if she's found, she'll be brought to the cafe. Apparently sometimes things come through the Dreaming plane...I think that's what happened to Mochi. Some kedan children were trying to play with him.
no subject
[ he hesitates, frowning thoughtfully as he stares down the street. ] I'm uncertain how to say this, Avery, but the you that I know is quite clearly a young man. He's perhaps a bit taller, his hair is shorter, even his skin-tone is different.
[ and that's certainly not all. he's not entirely sure that he wants to address it, though, all things considered. he's still not certain what it is going on between he and the other avery, anyway, and the notion that there's anything at all leaves him a bit flustered. ]
no subject
Nope. Nope. That last part.]
Wh-- you're serious? But...I'm me. And I like having my hair long, and...
[Yep. Definitely unnerved.]
no subject
Avery, that another 'you' exists elsewhere makes you no less yourself. You are still Avery Grey. [ a pause, mouth quirking up faintly. ] You are still my employee and friend. At least, I hope that still stands true.
B- aww yis
Well, hey there. I haven't seen you before. Did Avery bring you today? They didn't say anything about it.
[He wanders over to the window, crouching down and offering the back of his hand for the cat to sniff or ignore. At least he's well accustomed to dealing with the contrary nature of those of the feline bent. ]
points to eyes, points to u
well.. he's apparently friendly? at least, when it suits him. ]
this has made my day, no lie
Well, nice to meet you, too. I'm Adrien.
[Because talking to cats like they're people is a normal way to behave. Yep. ]
stretches out across this tdm seductively
he lets the teenager scratch his ears for several moments, then sits back on his haunches, tail sweeping neatly around his paws as he peers up at him. ]
Hello, Adrien. My name is Graves.
excellent B)
But this is new. He's used to Plagg talking, but Plagg isn't a real cat and this one looks like he is. Adrien jumps back with a startle yelp. Has he finally gone crazy? Or is this just another part of being the black cat chosen that Plagg decided not to mention. Can he talk to cats now?? Is that a thing?? ]
Uh... You just-
Hello, Graves?
[He's talking to a cat. He is talking to a cat ]
no subject
Don't be alarmed. It's simply easier for me to maintain this form these days.
[ it's one way to keep the rust from spreading too quickly. of course, it's been quite sluggish anyway, at least since arriving here, but there's no need to take unnecessary risks until he has a more permanent solution. .. if one is to be had at all, that is. ]
I'm a human, actually, and the owner of this cafe. [ technically. there's still some timeline issues that need sorting out. ] Just a moment-- [ he rises to his feet and hops down from the windowsill-- and between one moment and the next, the cat is replaced by a tall, slender man leaning on a cane. he offers a small smile, mismatched eyes warm in his face. ] --Is this better?
no subject
You- But I thought Avery owned the cafe?
[Yes, Adrien, this is the thing to focus on, good job. ]
I- sorry. That was rude. I never even thought the owner would be...a talking cat person.
no subject
[ he pulls out a chair, seating himself neatly and hooking his cane over the edge of the table. crossing one knee over the other, he laces his fingers loosely together in his lap. ]
A timeline issue, shall we say? And property rules for.. my kind.. are rather different where the two of us hail from. I'm quite pleased with their management here, though. [ particularly given that graves himself is in no shape to take a terribly active role at the moment. ] Unfortunately, Avery appears to be the only one of my employees present.
no subject
[Sure, Adrien, believe that one if it makes you feel better. He gives a small, almost sad smile at that.]
You never can tell who the Dreaming will bring here. Maybe they'll all show up, maybe none of them will. It's almost impossible to guess.
[He brightens, though. He likes Avery, they gave him a good job and he's genuinely enjoying learning the ropes. Adrien's father would throw a fit if he knew his son was working in a cafe of all place, but Adrien doesn't care. It's good here. ]
Avery's done really great work with this place, though. They've been a pretty good boss, I promise.
