TEST DRIVE MEME - TU SHANSHU EDITION!

Itching to try out writing a character? Then rev up your engines, grab your accounts, and slam your way into this meme! Here is a venue for you to try out whatever character there might be tickling your fancy, from fandom to OC, for as few as one and as many as MANY. Seriously, there's no limit.

How do you partake in this fantastic congregation of character testing? Why, by following these simple steps:

→ Comment with the journal of a character you want to test; put their name and canon in the subject line for added sparkles.
→ Tag around with everyone!
→ Profit like you live on a the back of a turtle!
→ Maybe even RESERVE so you CAN live on the back of a turtle!

But wait, there's more! For the low, low price of $9,999.99, you can even use one of our handy prompts when you tag someone. You could even pick one with a Random Number Generator to help decide which prompt to go with!
  1. Haggling Over Something in the Marketplace!
Maybe someone else saw the exact same shiny thing you did at the exact same moment! However shall this be resolved? Remember: blood is extremely hard to scrub off of turtle shell!

  2. Dramatic Chase Sequence!
You're running away from something! It could be anything, from a rampaging kirin to a gaggle of overly enthusiastic children! One way or another, you can't stop, and much like a katamari ball, you feel obligated to grab everyone in your path along the way to keep them out of danger! Or perhaps you're more the sort to try and knock them into it as a distraction...?

  3. Where There's A Will, There's A...?
The Life and Dreaming Planes have been merged, and sometimes what starts out as wishful thinking becomes lured into reality. That slick new motorcycle or pile of kingly treasure you were just daydreaming about? Surprise! It's just appeared in front of you. Though, it may only stay for a short while before it disappears again, so make it count. Hopefully you're not the type to daydream about terrible things befalling people you don't like...

  4. SECRET UNDERCOVER MODE ACTIVATE!
The three major kedan families all have their own agendas, and you've chosen to entangle yourselves with one (or more!) of them. Are you hoping to shift the balance of power? Gain some favours? Perhaps you're on a mission to bring a criminal to justice, or maybe you just want to get the cream of the crop from the black market. Maybe you haven't been hired by them at all, but are using their name for your own goals... as long as no one discovers the lie!

  5. Wait... you want my what now?!
The kedan are a curious folk, and the Foreigners are entertainment in conveniently arriving packages, especially when they come along with unique items that the kedan might not have seen before. Maybe it's your cellphone... or maybe it's your knickers! How badly do you want to keep your stuff from some overeager native shapeshifters who want to buy, bribe, or burglarize it right off your person?

  6. Sea prunes, get your sea prunes right here!
Life in Keeliai can take a little getting used to: the chickens have scales, the cows have feathers, and the fruits come in more colour and pattern combinations than your average tye-dye shirt. Not to mention that meal you just ordered from the food vendor? Has arrived on the plate, and you're pretty sure you just saw it move.

  7. Everybody needs a little darkness...
The Great Enemy may have been defeated over two years ago, and people are even willing to speak Malicant's name aloud now, but there remains a taint in the city never fully purged. Those who consider Malicant a dark god whose end was unjust are the cultists of Keeliai, and they aren't always so easy to identify as one might think. Sometimes their presence is felt in the growing urge to give into one's darker instincts, especially in such a foreign place...

  8. Illicit substances, anyone?
Every city has its vices, and Keeliai is no different. Perhaps you actively sought it out, or perhaps an opportunistic dealer saw you as a potential customer needing a free sample, but you're now in possession of a packet of Lucid, an emotion-enhancing drug. Interested in finding out what happens when you crush that colourful crystal and ingest it?

  9. Incoming!
Tu Vishan's latest landfall stop has brought an unwelcome problem to its residents: enormous, toothy creatures who look more like pterosaurs than most people are comfortable with! With a twenty-foot wingspan, these aren't exactly harmless local wildlife, and they have a nasty habit of swooping down on targets both Foreigner and kedan! How are you going to fend them off, or help someone who might have been injured by the latest dive bombing??

(Please note: This scenario isn't applicable to becoming game canon if you choose to app your character, as an alien pterosaur attack is a major event.)

  10. WILDCARD!
Go nuts. Suddenly your character is fighting dragons! Good God, they've found the Millennium Falcon drifting in the ocean! Do you really feel the uncontrollable urge to polish every paving stone in the Earth Sector? Anything goes!

He's ticking them off on his fingers, Alex.

"Only half?" She asks, amused. Honestly, she likes working with those she's working with. But some days, she wants to throttle them as well.

"Mmm, your expertise will still be valuable, if you choose to offer it." She shrugs. "You could teach at the dojo, if you wished."

2! please forgive me my Mo is so rusty

[personal profile] pandapanov 2016-08-08 01:09 am (UTC)(link)
Mo is still trying to get used to this place - he's still not really sure where he is and that can absolutely never be good - and wandering the streets may not be the smartest idea. But it's also a good way to observe people.

A small crowd of children is always enough to attract a little attention, but this one of particular interest because of who is standing in the middle of it.

"And here I thought you didn't like kids, Alex," Mo Panov says with a grin as he approaches the spook and his gaggle of followers.

"Don't test me, coach," Alex says with a smile. "Can't you just use some of your crazy shrink magic on them for a minute, or are you just going to let me suffer?"

"How many times do I have to tell you it's not magic?"

There is something highly amusing about Alex Conklin being overcome by kids, but Mo takes pity on him after a few more moments to just savor the image. He comes to a half-crouch so he's more at eye-level with the kids.

"Who wants to see Alex use his fake foot?" Mo asks the gathered children, winking up at Conklin.

"You asked for crazy shrink magic, this is what you get."

The children seem thrilled by the idea of seeing the strange boot in action, and they move far enough away that Mo can squeeze between them and offer Conklin his arm.

"Shall we? Our audience awaits," he says with far more seriousness than he can possibly mean.

Pamela Landy | The Bourne Series (movies)

[personal profile] needsrest 2016-08-08 11:50 pm (UTC)(link)
[Dealers Choice]

She doesn't appear to be particularly amused by the sights and sounds, but neither does she come across as particularly intimidated, even knowing that everything that is happening around her and happening to her is so very far from possible.

It's interesting in some ways (the different languages stick out - she wondered just how many dialects of it existed, probably more than any language back in her world with how her luck has been going), downright irritating in others (she had begun to take to carrying as little money or items on her person as possible when walking through the markets - the constant hassling always ended with something of hers missing in action), but it wasn't anything that couldn't be handled once she was aware of it and the longer she had remained within this place, the easier it became to shrug certain small things off.

Of course that didn't necessarily mean everything was as simply handled. There were a few things that even the "bold" Pamela Landy could tell were best to avoid at all costs, unless they were unavoidable. This world was just dangerous as in her own, but in different ways. It was very much like comparing an apple to a tomato. They were both fruits and both could be red in color or even green, but nothing else really even came close to matching.

She kept walking forward still, allowing her eyes to carefully scan the distance and with her posture as straight and tall as she could make it. No different than when she walked within the agency. A woman on the the way somewhere and not about to labeled as "timid" - she had a purpose, a mission if someone with an overactive imagination was allowed to describe it.

Truly? It was the best way to give her message of "do not bother me" or rather the only one that had a shot at working.

The woman tucked a lose strand of light hair as she walked. Of course now was the time when she was aware that there was no briefing or meeting to attend, no reason to actually rush - there hadn't been for some time now and it was still very...unsettling.

Marie Kreutz l The Bourne Series (movies)

[personal profile] reluctantaccessory 2016-08-09 12:30 am (UTC)(link)
[Dealer's Choice]

Marie could liken, once she was able to ignore the obvious differences, the market to any of the dozens she had spent long hours shopping at in the past. The vendors weren't much different in their behaviors. Some were pushy and willing to rip off the innocent or uninformed with broken bits of junk or random mixes of herbs that did nothing but make one's skin peel or make it itch like poison oak would. Others were much more pleasant to deal with.

The smells mixed with the sounds of children or adults shouting the names of items and prices (or what she believed were those things - the language end of things was still a bit tricky sometimes, though she was lucky that she wasn't entirely without help on a good day). But, she understood this type of life. It was simple. You woke up, you did the daily shopping, you went home and put things away before going to work (or you didn't - there was a long period where she instead "goofed off" after her daily chores and work was not an option), and perhaps picked up a few things on the way home or just took a long walk before going home. Perhaps tonight she would stop by one of the many food stalls, she was woefully behind on trying the local cuisine.

Of course, there were a number of things that she had made mental notes to avoid. Most of those things looked plenty alive when served on plates. Other things smelt "funny" even disgusting enough to make her cast iron stomach turn. There were also a handful of items that she had made similar notes about. The only thing she wished she could figure out how to avoid entirely were the locals who always found a way to flock around her and root through her pockets and bag when she had begun to let her guard slip some.

Though, it was not as much of a shock to her as it was to others, she had been "attacked" more than once in her own world in a like way. It usually took a few sharp words, sometimes a couple of threats from the "scary one" that had been guarding from a distance, and other times she had to give in and let something of her own go to appease the group. It always ended up depending on a few things.

The young woman sighed contently and flipped some of her long blonde hair behind her tattooed shoulder as she kept wandering carrying her now battered blue bag. She had some time to kill, her shopping hadn't taken nearly as long as it would have a short time ago. Or perhaps she just got lucky and didn't need much today. She herself roll her shoulders a few times as they got stiff and she allowed a very bright, though close lipped smile to form.

"Well, this could be worse."

Brigid's nose is, unsuprisingly, in a book. This one is about the language and what others have done with translating it. Well, she's never been into the Asian languages and that means learning a whole new alphabet. She plans on finding out if there's some nursery school or something she can attend in order to learn the language - written if nothing else.

When she fails to move around someone, she actually looks up from the book. "Oh, I'm terribly sorry. I wasn't watching where I was going." From her? It's actually sincere.

"Hmm." She's not going to ask how that happened. That's rude and she doubts he wants to recount what the hell happened anyway. So, instead, Heather sips her juice, and studies her companion, thoughtfully. "You should stop by the guild. We might be able to give you something better." Or regrow his limb, whichever. Heather doesn't question some of the magic around the guild.

"Maybe." He studies Heather in turn. "Truth be told, I'm used to this bastard thing - changing it might do more harm than good." Yes, it is a pain in the ass - and foot - but he's had it for half his life now. Too serious of an upgrade would throw him off, and he can't afford that.

"Couldn't hurt to try, darling." She says with a very Gallic shrug. She probably should be getting back. But she's enjoying the conversation. "If you ever change your mind, feel free to stop by." She waves in the direction of the guild.

"So, what do you plan on doing with your time here on the turtle?"

Meanwhile, there's a tiny stringbean of a Gem trotting along with the air that she expects others to get out of her way. And it works with some people.

Not this human, apparently.

Physics wins out - the woman's bigger, so Peridot stumbles backwards and lands flat on her solid-light butt. "Hey! What's the big idea?"

Her hair makes her maybe as tall as Pam's chest. Maybe.

There's a sigh from nearby, and a man about Marie's age is shaking his head, a little exasperated.

"Why? Why would you ever say that? Yes, it could be worse, but don't you know better than to tempt fate?"
