TEST DRIVE MEME - TU SHANSHU EDITION!

Itching to try out writing a character? Then rev up your engines, grab your accounts, and slam your way into this meme! Here is a venue for you to try out whatever character there might be tickling your fancy, from fandom to OC, for as few as one and as many as MANY. Seriously, there's no limit.

How do you partake in this fantastic congregation of character testing? Why, by following these simple steps:

→ Comment with the journal of a character you want to test; put their name and canon in the subject line for added sparkles.
→ Tag around with everyone!
→ Profit like you live on a the back of a turtle!
→ Maybe even RESERVE so you CAN live on the back of a turtle!

But wait, there's more! For the low, low price of $9,999.99, you can even use one of our handy prompts when you tag someone. You could even pick one with a Random Number Generator to help decide which prompt to go with!
  1. Haggling Over Something in the Marketplace!
Maybe someone else saw the exact same shiny thing you did at the exact same moment! However shall this be resolved? Remember: blood is extremely hard to scrub off of turtle shell!

  2. Dramatic Chase Sequence!
You're running away from something! It could be anything, from a rampaging kirin to a gaggle of overly enthusiastic children! One way or another, you can't stop, and much like a katamari ball, you feel obligated to grab everyone in your path along the way to keep them out of danger! Or perhaps you're more the sort to try and knock them into it as a distraction...?

  3. Where There's A Will, There's A...?
The Life and Dreaming Planes have been merged, and sometimes what starts out as wishful thinking becomes lured into reality. That slick new motorcycle or pile of kingly treasure you were just daydreaming about? Surprise! It's just appeared in front of you. Though, it may only stay for a short while before it disappears again, so make it count. Hopefully you're not the type to daydream about terrible things befalling people you don't like...

  4. SECRET UNDERCOVER MODE ACTIVATE!
The three major kedan families all have their own agendas, and you've chosen to entangle yourselves with one (or more!) of them. Are you hoping to shift the balance of power? Gain some favours? Perhaps you're on a mission to bring a criminal to justice, or maybe you just want to get the cream of the crop from the black market. Maybe you haven't been hired by them at all, but are using their name for your own goals... as long as no one discovers the lie!

  5. Wait... you want my what now?!
The kedan are a curious folk, and the Foreigners are entertainment in conveniently arriving packages, especially when they come along with unique items that the kedan might not have seen before. Maybe it's your cellphone... or maybe it's your knickers! How badly do you want to keep your stuff from some overeager native shapeshifters who want to buy, bribe, or burglarize it right off your person?

  6. Sea prunes, get your sea prunes right here!
Life in Keeliai can take a little getting used to: the chickens have scales, the cows have feathers, and the fruits come in more colour and pattern combinations than your average tye-dye shirt. Not to mention that meal you just ordered from the food vendor? Has arrived on the plate, and you're pretty sure you just saw it move.

  7. Everybody needs a little darkness...
The Great Enemy may have been defeated over two years ago, and people are even willing to speak Malicant's name aloud now, but there remains a taint in the city never fully purged. Those who consider Malicant a dark god whose end was unjust are the cultists of Keeliai, and they aren't always so easy to identify as one might think. Sometimes their presence is felt in the growing urge to give into one's darker instincts, especially in such a foreign place...

  8. Illicit substances, anyone?
Every city has its vices, and Keeliai is no different. Perhaps you actively sought it out, or perhaps an opportunistic dealer saw you as a potential customer needing a free sample, but you're now in possession of a packet of Lucid, an emotion-enhancing drug. Interested in finding out what happens when you crush that colourful crystal and ingest it?

  9. Incoming!
Tu Vishan's latest landfall stop has brought an unwelcome problem to its residents: enormous, toothy creatures who look more like pterosaurs than most people are comfortable with! With a twenty-foot wingspan, these aren't exactly harmless local wildlife, and they have a nasty habit of swooping down on targets both Foreigner and kedan! How are you going to fend them off, or help someone who might have been injured by the latest dive bombing??

  10. WILDCARD!
Go nuts. Suddenly your character is fighting dragons! Good God, they've found the Millennium Falcon drifting in the ocean! Do you really feel the uncontrollable urge to polish every paving stone in the Earth Sector? Anything goes!

[Yessss, ear scratches. The best.]

She's small for a human, and she wears a ribbon in her hair! And her voice is the nicest voice.

[Guess who's biased in favor of his person.]

I would tell you what she smells like, but I guess that wouldn't help you.

[Humans have terrible noses, he's learned. That's okay: Missile has a top-notch nose! He can smell for all of them!]

I was a ghost once!! But I'm alive now!

What a mean person! I'd cut up anyone who tried to hurt Aya-tan.

[ He has, actually. The good thing with being a soldier was that you could carry a weapon around and no one would ask why. ]

Aya-tan is the most important, I love him very much! He's really cool!

[ He picks the dog up. It means he has to stop scratching but now they have a mission! He'll continue scratching later. ]

He's got clothes like mine and white curls and sometimes I think his hat's been glued to his head!

Missile isn't even a human, to be careful around, and he's allowed to speak all he likes in his native language to animals. And so, he switches to another lg, knowing everything will be translated, anyway, and now he could talk without thinking much. And more comfortably.]

Ribbon, huh? Gotcha. I'm gonna try and help you find your precious Lady.

Oh, I see. Maybe I can undertand you oh so easily coz I was a ghost- but not a Ghost - for a short while 'fore I got foolishly kidnapped here. Still no bloody idea how that one happened. I only know Krowell-sama's gonna have trouble sleeping again, and that's the last thing I want to happen... he's my equivalent of your miss Kamilla, see?

Oh, I don't think they're that bad. I mean yeah, there's lots of...what do they call us...Foreigners here? But I'd bet every time someone new shows up, the natives are just trying to get a feel for who we are, or something like that.

[He shhrugs. Maybe it was Ezio's memories, but Desmond just couldn't bring himself to hate thieves and pickpockets.]

Not that I'm saying you shouldn't be careful, but I don't think there's any real harm meant. I just wonder if they aren't bringing their loot somewhere, like...I wonder if they're organized or not. You can't be a thief in a city this big without competition, and the only way to deal with that is to make sure everyone's on the same team.
undercherryblossoms: (like I've said above)

[personal profile] undercherryblossoms 2016-05-08 04:08 pm (UTC)(link)
"You may be right."

Because people had to organise themselves, to form groups of some kind- in order to simply survive. If even his king and friend, a human incarnation of angel of death, could not simply survive on his own, then who ever could? In any world.

"I wonder how many criminal guilds exist in this city."
shirley_templar: (Surveillance)

[personal profile] shirley_templar 2016-05-09 03:40 am (UTC)(link)
"I've got a bit of experience with this sorta stuff. Spent a lot of time making friends with people nobody notices."

Of course, Desmond doesn't mention that it was all in the Animus. He had a hard time, sometimes, separating himself from the memories he had experienced. Even with as long as it had been since he'd wrapped up his sessions with Connor's memories, he was still feeling the after effects of being in the Animus for so long.

"That's a good question. A city this size's gotta have at least one big one, if not a couple of smaller ones. Thieves, mercenaries, whatever. Guess it just depends on what's against the law."

[personal profile] undercherryblossoms 2016-05-09 08:29 am (UTC)(link)
"I suppose so."

After a moment, "If I may ask, what did this particular thief attempt to steal from you?"
shirley_templar: (Gauntlet)

[personal profile] shirley_templar 2016-05-09 04:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Desmond has a feeling that he's likely going to run afoul of at least one of the criminal organizations soon, though he doesn't know which one. It was only a matter of time before word of both his physical prowess, and the bracer he wore got around. He holds up his left arm for Yukikaze to see. The Eagle's head emblem is plain on the side Desmond shows.

"Oh, this thing? It's a bracer. An old family heirloom, really. Worthless to most people, but dangerous if it fell into the wrong hands."
undercherryblossoms: (pic#10134561)

[personal profile] undercherryblossoms 2016-05-09 04:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah, a heirloom. That explains why it seemed so important to the man. Yukikaze can symphatise. He still keeps a couple photographs sewn into his uniform, photos that he shouldn't keep, because they could potentially get himself and his beloved king executed. Oh, well. Nobody knew about them anyway.

Peers closely. "An eagle. For wisdom, strength, pride, omnipotence, or heavenly victory?"
shirley_templar: (Looking)

[personal profile] shirley_templar 2016-05-09 06:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Desmond rubs a hand over the emblem, feeling...probably for the first time ever, a small swell of pride in what it represented.

"Freedom mostly, and wisdom. There's a saying that's been with my family for a long time. When I first heard it, I thought it was supposed to be take literally. 'Nothing is true, everything is pemitted,' it's supposed to make a person think, I guess. Like...freedom without wisdom isn't really freedom at all, or something like that."

Desmond remembers Ezio's conversation with Sofia Sartor on the subject, where he dissected the true meaning of the phrase. How it was meant to evoke thought, rather than be followed like a true creed.
undercherryblossoms: (like I've said above)

[personal profile] undercherryblossoms 2016-05-09 06:31 pm (UTC)(link)
"I see. That sounds really wise. Wisdom needed to find the true freedom, and not just an illusion of it. Or perhaps, the freedom needed to find such a wisdom. To seek it on one's own, instead of accepting one that's given to you on a silver platter, perhaps?"

Freedom. Freedom was a precious thing. Yukikaze probably began to be completely free the day his king became truly free (and exiled), which was only fitting. But he hasn't really realised, till thinking on it just now, just how much freedom meant to him.

"Either way, a good motto to have, I'd think."
shirley_templar: (Drinking)

[personal profile] shirley_templar 2016-05-09 06:47 pm (UTC)(link)
"I heard it broken down once. Like...if nothing is true, then why believe anything at all, and if everything is permitted, what's to stop someone from just doing whatever they want? The answer's wisdom. Knowing better, you know? Having the freedom, and the wisdom to do the right thing with it."

Desmond's experiences with Altaïr, Ezio, and Connor had taught him that much. Even his own experiences, running away from the Assassin's Compound when he was younger, and living on his own had taught him that. All his bid for freedom had won him was imprisonment by Abstergo, his fate as an Assassin catching up to hiim.

"But yeah. It's the reason my family's been around so long. I've got ancestors traced back as far as the Crusades, as far as I know."

[Although Keeliai is a bustling city at times, it's rare to see people running at a full sprint. It usually means something is wrong, and Pepper pays attention when things need righting. Which is why she takes off after the pair.

She knows the city pretty well by now and takes a shortcut through an alley; what she lacks in freerunning skills she makes up for in tenacity and a vivid mental map. Emerging back onto the street just behind the thief, Pepper manages to grab at their shirt to slow them down, sliding a bit as she changes direction again and barely stays upright. The redhead is grinning as she turns - the race is on!]
shirley_templar: (Hooded)

[personal profile] shirley_templar 2016-05-09 07:52 pm (UTC)(link)
[Desmond hadn't exactly been expecting that anyone would join him on what had, apparently, turned into a merry chase. Instead, he just nods at the young readhead as he catches up to her, thankful for the help.

Spotting a few stacked crates just ahead of him, Desmond lets his instincts take over, and he bounces up the crates, grabbing onto a low-hanging bar, sending him into full-on parkour mode, leaping and bouncing on whatever he could get any traction on. Being out of the regular foot traffic helped to increase his pace, putting Desmond just behind his quarry, about 10 feet or so off of the ground.

He's hoping that Pepper will catch onto what he's doing, as Desmond leaps forward, sailing through the air to land about 6 feet ahead of the thief. As he flies through the air, Desmond's hood flips up onto his head, putting his face into what might be a very familiar profile. After he lands, he smiles at the thief, raising his arms up as if to say "Who, me?", while waiting for Pepper to catch up to them, cutting off the thief's route of escape.
]
lasergrenades: (Hiya!)

[personal profile] lasergrenades 2016-05-09 08:15 pm (UTC)(link)
[It's no fun just watching chases - participating is the only proper way to engage in law enforcement in Pepper's mind. The particular frame of mind isn't necessarily ideal for a teenager, but that's never stopped her before.

If Pepper hadn't seen parkour of the kind that Desmond is employing before in Keeliai, she might be so inclined to gape that she'd trip over her own feet or run into someone else. As it is, she's a little surprised by the sudden vertical detour he's taken, but it becomes obvious enough what he's planning after a moment.

She skids to a halt just behind the thief, ready to nab them if he or she decides to reverse course.]

Morning, [she says, breathing hard but still smiling.]

"My apologies, but I do not think I'm familiar with the concept of 'Crusades' in my country - or rather, in the world I have come from."

Naturally, he's curious now.

"What are said 'crusades'? A war?"

Just a guess, but somehow it sounds like it could be something of a kind. Somehow, the man of eagle hairloom looked like somebody who wouldn't be completely in a war - and they were talking of his ancestors, after all.
shirley_templar: (Heh)

[personal profile] shirley_templar 2016-05-09 08:28 pm (UTC)(link)
[The thief, seeing he's been caught, simply hangs his head, fumbling with the Hidden Blade bracer in his hands. The fumbling has the unfortunate side-effect of triggering the release mechanism, which causes the blade to quickly and fully extend, frightening the thief so bad that he drops the bracer and runs away, fearful of what he's just found.

Desmond strides toward the now discarded bracer, picking it up to dust if off, and offering Pepper a brief salute for her help.
]

Just another day in the big city, right? Thanks for the help back there.

[Desmond straps the bracer back on his left arm, and lowers his hood.]

Can't wait for this little run-in to come back and bite me in the ass.
shirley_templar: (Let me explain you a thing)

[personal profile] shirley_templar 2016-05-09 08:35 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oh, it was a war, a long time ago. The Christians of northern Europe, trying to convert the Muslims of the Ottoman Empire. It was a pretty bloody affair, and no one's exactly sure why it even got started."

Desmond thinks of Altaïr, the Turkish Assassin that was one of his earliest ancestors, and how the Assassin's had become embroiled in the Crusades only because the Templars had chosen to back the church.

"My ancestor Altaïr was involved, but we don't know exactly what he did, other than that he was a Muslim at that time."
lasergrenades: (Oh hi there)

[personal profile] lasergrenades 2016-05-09 08:35 pm (UTC)(link)
[Unlike the thief, Pepper doesn't startle at the release of the blade, watching largely unconcerned as he runs away; if Desmond isn't going to continue to chase him, she doesn't seem much need either. If he hasn't learned his lesson he'll be caught again, hopefully not by the Snakes.]

You're welcome. Where'd you get that thing? [Two friends of hers have one, although neither have explained why.]

I don't see why it would, unless you mean letting it get stolen in the first place. That happen often?
shirley_templar: (Gauntlet)

[personal profile] shirley_templar 2016-05-09 08:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh this? A friend of mine gave it to me. It belonged to an ancestor of mine, Ezio Auditore.

[Desmond flexes his wrist back, testing the Hidden Blade to make sure it still worked. At Pepper's question, Desmond shakes his head.]

No. I'm just worried that whatever criminal gangs are around here are gonna catch wind that there's a badass with a springloaded knife attached to his wrist is running around. Kinda defeats the whole "remain unseen" thing. I never was very good at stealth.
lasergrenades: (Maybe you just caught him on a bad day)

[personal profile] lasergrenades 2016-05-09 08:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Huh. [Ancestor, eh? Like Shay's Templar ring. Interesting.

She tilts her head, smiling almost apologetically at him.]

Hate to break it to you, but you're hardly the only badass around here. Not even the only one with a weapon like that. You haven't been in Keeliai long, have you? [The redhead holds out a hand.] I'm Pepper, by the way. Are you supposed to be some kind of spy or something?
shirley_templar: (Let me explain you a thing)

[personal profile] shirley_templar 2016-05-09 09:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Desmond Miles, and...yeah, something like that. [He pauses for a few seconds. By the sound of it, there are other Assassins here, though they could easily be Templars who kept their Hidden Blades, like Haytham had. There was also the fact that Desmond himself had fought for so long to reject his heritage, and not even acknowledge who he was, or where he'd come from.] I'm an Assassin.

[He takes the offered hand and shakes it.]

One of the others here wouldn't be named Kenway, would they by any chance?

[Desmond knew it was a long shot, but if it was either Haytham or Connor, he could get some questions answered that had been on his mind.]
lasergrenades: (Disbelief)

[personal profile] lasergrenades 2016-05-09 09:29 pm (UTC)(link)
[Deadpan:] An Assassin. [...what. Cue some mild gaping.] So that's what the two of them do back home? Geez, I mean, I knew it had to be something serious, like total secret society stuff, but Assassins? That... actually explains a lot. Not everything, but definitely a lot.

[Also apparently Desmond isn't nearly as cagey about his so-called occupation because wow had Arno and Shay tapdanced around it. Even drunk Shay hadn't explained (and she's also unaware that he's ostensibly switched sides in a centuries-long war).]

Uh, no. Their names are Arno Dorian and Shay Cormac. Unless Kenway is some kind of code-name, in which case I have no idea.
shirley_templar: (Glow)

[personal profile] shirley_templar 2016-05-09 09:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, we're usually not supposed to talk about it, with the whole "remain unseen, never do anything that would compromise the Order" thing, but things have changed, what with the whole "kidnapped by a giant turtle" thing.

[Desmond also taps his temple.]

I can also tell that I can trust you, since you're blue.

[The names Pepper mentions aren't even remotely familiar to Desmond, so he figures that they were just Assassins that Altaïr, Ezio, and Connor had never met.]

No, it's a family name. I'm familiar with Haytham and Connor Kenway, which is why I asked. Can't say I'm familiar with the other two guys though.
lasergrenades: (Arguing)

[personal profile] lasergrenades 2016-05-09 09:51 pm (UTC)(link)
That's what I said! [That argument hadn't held up with either Arno or Shay, although Arno had certainly alluded to it more than the Irishman.] Sorry - blue?

[Pepper hasn't heard of color-blindedness that makes things look blue, and also being color-blind has literally nothing to do with trust so...???]

Yeah, well, they're from a couple centuries ago in my timeline. Shay's from around the American Revolution and Arno is from the French Revolution. Lots of other big names to contend with for a place in history.
