It takes a second for Mal to catch himself, skidding forward a few paces, but eventually, he comes to a stop. Once that's accomplished, he throws a quick look behind him, but given the general lack of a disturbance in his wake (except for the one he caused himself), it doesn't appear that the pursuer is still there.

Anyway, he's got bigger fish to fry, like talking to the person he just ran into. "Well, there's a sight I didn't go lookin' to see."
