TEST DRIVE MEME - TU SHANSHU EDITION!
Itching to try out writing a character? Then rev up your engines, grab your accounts, and slam your way into this meme! Here is a venue for you to try out whatever character there might be tickling your fancy, from fandom to OC, for as few as one and as many as MANY. Seriously, there's no limit.

How do you partake in this fantastic congregation of character testing? Why, by following these simple steps:

→ Comment with the journal of a character you want to test; put their name and canon in the subject line for added sparkles.
→ Tag around with everyone!
→ Profit like you live on a the back of a turtle!
→ Maybe even RESERVE so you CAN live on the back of a turtle!

But wait, there's more! For the low, low price of $9,999.99, you can even use one of our handy prompts when you tag someone. You could even pick one with a Random Number Generator to help decide which prompt to go with!
  1. Haggling Over Something in the Marketplace!
Maybe someone else saw the exact same shiny thing you did at the exact same moment! However shall this be resolved? Remember: blood is extremely hard to scrub off of turtle shell!

  2. Dramatic Chase Sequence!
You're running away from something! It could be anything, from a rampaging kirin to a gaggle of overly enthusiastic children! One way or another, you can't stop, and much like a katamari ball, you feel obligated to grab everyone in your path along the way to keep them out of danger! Or perhaps you're more the sort to try and knock them into it as a distraction...?

  3. Where There's A Will, There's A...?
The Life and Dreaming Planes have been merged, and sometimes what starts out as wishful thinking becomes lured into reality. That slick new motorcycle or pile of kingly treasure you were just daydreaming about? Surprise! It's just appeared in front of you. Though, it may only stay for a short while before it disappears again, so make it count. Hopefully you're not the type to daydream about terrible things befalling people you don't like...

  4. SECRET UNDERCOVER MODE ACTIVATE!
The three major kedan families all have their own agendas, and you've chosen to entangle yourselves with one (or more!) of them. Are you hoping to shift the balance of power? Gain some favours? Perhaps you're on a mission to bring a criminal to justice, or maybe you just want to get the cream of the crop from the black market. Maybe you haven't been hired by them at all, but are using their name for your own goals... as long as no one discovers the lie!

  5. Wait... you want my what now?!
The kedan are a curious folk, and the Foreigners are entertainment in conveniently arriving packages, especially when they come along with unique items that the kedan might not have seen before. Maybe it's your cellphone... or maybe it's your knickers! How badly do you want to keep your stuff from some overeager native shapeshifters who want to buy, bribe, or burglarize it right off your person?

  6. Sea prunes, get your sea prunes right here!
Life in Keeliai can take a little getting used to: the chickens have scales, the cows have feathers, and the fruits come in more colour and pattern combinations than your average tye-dye shirt. Not to mention that meal you just ordered from the food vendor? Has arrived on the plate, and you're pretty sure you just saw it move.

  7. Everybody needs a little darkness...
The Great Enemy may have been defeated over two years ago, and people are even willing to speak Malicant's name aloud now, but there remains a taint in the city never fully purged. Those who consider Malicant a dark god whose end was unjust are the cultists of Keeliai, and they aren't always so easy to identify as one might think. Sometimes their presence is felt in the growing urge to give into one's darker instincts, especially in such a foreign place...

  8. Illicit substances, anyone?
Every city has its vices, and Keeliai is no different. Perhaps you actively sought it out, or perhaps an opportunistic dealer saw you as a potential customer needing a free sample, but you're now in possession of a packet of Lucid, an emotion-enhancing drug. Interested in finding out what happens when you crush that colourful crystal and ingest it?

  9. Incoming!
Tu Vishan's latest landfall stop has brought an unwelcome problem to its residents: enormous, toothy creatures who look more like pterosaurs than most people are comfortable with! With a twenty-foot wingspan, these aren't exactly harmless local wildlife, and they have a nasty habit of swooping down on targets both Foreigner and kedan! How are you going to fend them off, or help someone who might have been injured by the latest dive bombing??

  10. WILDCARD!
Go nuts. Suddenly your character is fighting dragons! Good God, they've found the Millennium Falcon drifting in the ocean! Do you really feel the need to polish every paving stone in the Earth Sector? Anything goes!

He's not entirely used to being ... mostly visible to everyone. It's handy, at least. Don't have to play dodge everyone.

Zaveid turns with a grin. Has he heard an accent like that before? Probably. Recently? Depends on the definition. "There's that saying about old dogs and tricks. Not to mention it's just satisfying, doing what you're good at."

... He probably could, though. The wind tells him a lot, he could probably piece together the prickleboar school style.

Balthier watched him a moment longer. Ever the loyal hounds, these brothers.

"Larsa yet lives. You entrusted his safety and your identity to your brother on your deathbed."

The stare returned.

"To be honest, I can't tell if it was an act of forgiveness or a last ditch effort at vengeance. Whatever the case, Basch Fon Ronsenburg is a dead man, as far as most of Ivalice is concerned. Well played, your honour."

Gabranth wonders at that: at what could have possibly transpired between them, for Basch to have agreed such a task... But, although briefly, his wondering is overpowered by his relief that Larsa might at last be safe.

"I had thought..."

The words slip past his lips before he can think to stop them. He cuts himself short, furrowing his brow again, and sighs deeply.

"So I am dead, and Basch yet lives." Try as he might, he can't quite keep his lip from curling at the thought. "And Vayne lies fallen... I suppose, then, it was worth it in the end."

"Last I checked, there was also a saying about willows an' oaks in the breeze," Meidhbhín smiled. "Take a new challenge as an adventure, lad, not something t'be suffered through."

He laughs. Zaveid would end up getting wind things quoted at him. "Ol' Zaveid is plenty flexible~"

There's.. a tiny hint of a smirk on his face every time she calls him 'lad'. Doesn't feel quite right to be another seraph, so its either how she treats everyone, or she's something else. Seraphs don't age after they hit the peak of their power, he's.. been like this for a while now.

"Oh?" His voice grows into a lazy drawl. "Is a pretty lady offering to go on an adventure with me?"

Old though he might be, sometimes it's less about actual accumulated time and more about maturity. That and Meidhbhín was a mother, once, and it's hard to shake the behaviour even centuries later.

The offhand compliment gets a bit of a wry quirk to her mouth, but she glances at the Jagaiz Rings for a moment before shaking her head. She doesn't want that kind of attention drawn to her, not in a place like this.

"Perhaps another time," she answered. "That seems a romp f'more sunflowers than ivys, I think."

What he wanted, yes - up until very recently. Up until he met his sister, a woman he barely remembered, and everything he'd wanted his history to be slipped from his grasp. Once rediscovering his own past stopped mattering to Fenris, the memories which slipped uninvited into his mind stopped bothering him, and there hadn't been anything left with which to hold Hawke at arm's length.

Hawke didn't remember it. That conversation, that admission, or anything that came after it.

"My sister," he said. "Varania. She contacted me several days ago, asking for a meeting. Do you remember that? Do you remember that it was a trap?"

[personal profile] on_the_books 2016-02-10 01:42 am (UTC)(link)
[When one considers that the concept of death is as old as time itself, you'd think that The Accountant had seen it all, in terms of food. He's eaten just about every animal that can be eaten as food both raw and cooked, and sometimes both at the same time (he's a hedonist, what can he say?), but when he's handed his plate of...whatever it was, he honestly hesitates.]

Now, I like to consider myself an authority on the great divide that is cooked versus uncooked, but...I'm not entirely sure that...whatever this is was cooked thoroughly enough, wouldn't you agree?

[The vendor argues with him that all is at it should be (which he can't help but doubt...just a little. He simply shrugs and digs in, with a gusto that contradicts his trepidation only moments before. Gaping is absolutely allowed, for as long as he spent in the shadows, The Accountant doesn't mind being the center of attention, now that some of the pressure to meet his quota is off of his shoulders.]

Meidhbhín doesn't seem surprised by the plant child's appearance, but fixes the overly curious kedan with a stern frown. Wrapped in a rust-red cloak, her thick brogue when she speaks manages to convey even more reproach, making more than a few of the kedan shrink backward.

"Leave th' poor lass alone, she's obviously a person, not for decoration."

A dark-haired woman in a rust-red cloak bends down to lift the small child up and settles them comfortably onto her hip, smiling a little at Gabranth's attempts to make himself less interesting to the curious kedan. She clucks her tongue at the attempt, before speaking with a distinctive brogue

"Telling them no is th' same as waving a pennant around and saying 'here, I've something t'hide. It's not very effective, lad," she advises. "Besides, they're awfully cute, for wee ones."

Let's avoid thinking of a situation where Zaveid would be acting mature. They usually aren't good situations.

He's half expecting that to have been a pun, only when he thinks on it, it sounds like a personality commentary. She doesn't like the spotlight?

"Adventure can be found anywhere. Shall the wind help the ivy find some?" It.. would be less ridiculous sounding if he wasn't still mumbly-drawl sounding.

(Such is the life of the seraphim.)

While he could have just been following along with the metaphor, the implied reference to himself combined with what Meidhbhín had felt -- air, the breeze -- led her to shake her head. While not another faerie, she didn't know enough about him to understand what exactly she might be getting into. Her walls were going back up.

"Ivy can be an unexpectedly cruel plant," she said, more than a touch of bitterness in her words, aimed at herself. "Even sometimes chokin th' life out of th' rest of the garden. You should have your fun if you wish, lad. I don't mind cheerin' for you, from here."

For the most part Gabranth manages to keep his expression neutral, but he can't help but frown a bit when the woman calls him lad. Something in her accent casts his memory back to the Drabwurld, but it isn't one he can precisely place, which makes him frown even more.

"They already know I have something to hide," he says, doing his best not to sound as exasperated as he feels. "But how would you suggest I discourage them?"

"No. But I can't really say that I'm surprised." That came out sardonically, but a sardonic Garrett had never really used with Fenris. With Fenris he'd always been teasing flirtatious--sometimes challenging, yes. But not faintly bitter. Fenris had enough bitterness for the both of them.

Though Garrett didn't let on, there was a part of him that was increasingly unsure. What was the point in a demon pretending something had happened when it hadn't? If there was a sense in it, Garrett couldn't see what it was. That was dangerous, when it came to demons.

"What's your point?" he asked finally, his eyes still narrowed.

Meidhbhín doesn't know what she said that's making him frown so, and wonders if he merely doesn't like children. Or perhaps he's merely touchy about whatever he's hiding.

"You could try being nice t'them," she allowed a private smile. She shifted the kedan child a little to free up a hand, and with a bit of magic, produced a large, rainbow-shimmer bubble that drifted in the air. It was far more resilient than a regular bubble, able to bounce and roll across the ground without popping. The kedan child squealed in delight, and she set them down, and the whole gaggle soon were on their way, chasing it down the street.

"You weren't surprised then, either." For all Hawke was unsure, Fenris's resolve firmed; the sardonic tone of voice wasn't enough to throw him, only to startle him. If Hawke was saying whatever came to mind without his usual consideration, he was either angry enough to attack, or confused enough to listen. Fenris's response would be the same either way.

He didn't move, didn't reach for either his sword or Hawke, though his overwhelming desire to be doing something nearly made him step forward. "I killed Danarius there," he said. "My sister sold me out for a chance to become his apprentice. The day after, when you came to visit me, we talked about that night from three years ago. It's little wonder you don't remember that, if you don't remember the meeting. What do you remember?"

"Or strangle the tree even as the tree supports it." Zaveid agrees, because, well, that was something that ivy did. "Nature is nature."

And then, like it had never gone anywhere, the drawl is back. "With a pretty lady cheering me on from the side lines, no chance in hell Zaveid'll make a fool of himself in there~"

So he winks and turns back to animatedly talking about weapon options.

"A version of you is dead, and a version of Basch yet lives," Balthier corrected, watching Gabranth quietly. "Your path may take an entirely different turn."

He shrugged, reclining again in his seat. "What was it you had thought?" The little slip hadn't gotten by the pirate. He felt some sympathy for the Judge - he wasn't completely heartless. But Balthier's sympathies could only go so far to a man had dug much of his own hole.

Though don't we all? was the unwanted thought that intruded so neatly into his brain. Balthier shoved it back. He'd mastered the art of repression a long time ago.

Gabranth is silent at first, reluctant to acknowledge the truth in Balthier's words, and his gaze drifts downwards once more.

"I suppose it already has."

Does that make it meaningless to find solace in the knowledge that Larsa is safe, and Vayne is dead? If that only holds true for one version of them... He doesn't know what to think.

He doesn't know how best to answer Balthier's question, either. There's so much to explain, and just the thought of it makes him feel wearier than he has in weeks.

"Almost a full two years on from my arrival in the Drabwurld..." Gabranth trails off for just a moment, pressing his lips into a thin line before he continues. "Lord Larsa arrived there as well, snared by the same forces which had taken me from Ridorana."

For all that they were still, their surroundings had an air of action, and they were being given a wide berth. Even a step could've sparked something ugly, so it was a good thing Fenris didn't step. In Garrett's state of confusion, given the circumstances, he wouldn't have risked holding back against a demon.

Three years?

"Three months," he said tightly. "That night was three months ago." But he'd grant that it had felt like three years. Maybe that was why the demon thought otherwise. It was just that this place didn't look like the Fade ...

But there were some similarities in how it felt. Similarities. Not the same. Just enough differences to make him pause instead of attacking. He was letting Fenris--the demon--talk, just because he was unsure. Stupid. Dangerous. Had to make some distance, if that was possible hereabouts.

Without another word Garrett turned to walk away, deliberately presenting his back. If he was attacked, at least he'd know for sure.

Fenris fell silent. Three months? No. Whatever this place was, however they'd been dragged here, something must not have gone according to plan. Either that, or someone had deliberately erased Hawke's memories of the intervening years.

What would be the point in that?

He didn't want to let Hawke leave, but Fenris knew better than anyone what tricks a fickle memory could play on your emotions. Hawke let Fenris leave, that night three years ago, and Fenris had been grateful for that. Shouldn't he return the favour now? He had no doubt they'd find each other again when they needed to, especially if this place was some undiscovered corner of the Fade.

... No. It took Fenris three years to realise it, but walking away from Hawke had been a mistake.

Decision made, Fenris shook his head and took a single step forward. "Wait. I'm not a demon, Hawke. I'm sorry there isn't anything I can say to convince you, but I won't leave you either. Someone's toying with us, with your memory. I won't let them get away with it."

Despite his conscious effort to be level-headed, his eyes burned with the same anger audible in his voice. Magic, as always. Evidently it wouldn't rest until it had taken everything from him.

"I thought you might be new," Erskine says with a nod. "I like to keep an eye on the network, and I haven't seen you in the Hotel--though I suppose that doesn't necessarily mean anything." Many of the Foreigners have taken to living in the Sky Sector in the past few months, after all, and Erskine does tend to hide when he isn't working. "There are several of us around. Not as many as there were. Maybe more than I know about, if they haven't passed through the Hotel."

He falls quiet for a moment, considering. His natural inclination these days is to retreat, to avoid any social interactions that aren't over the network or with people he already knows and trusts. Then again, he's already put himself out there this far.

"Have you been to the Welcome Center, then? Found a place to live and all that?"

Now that there is space around her, she turns to the woman, tilting her head.

"Thank you, but I think they might actually have been after my decorations." She lets go of her ear to curl the fingers around the other wrist, just below what looks like a twig growing out of her hand. "Sylvari don't make good decorations."

But at least Meidhbhín doesn't seem to be surprised by her, even though she talks like no one Viliandre's met in her life.
