TEST DRIVE MEME - TU SHANSHU EDITION!
Itching to try out writing a character? Then rev up your engines, grab your accounts, and slam your way into this meme! Here is a venue for you to try out whatever character there might be tickling your fancy, from fandom to OC, for as few as one and as many as MANY. Seriously, there's no limit.

How do you partake in this fantastic congregation of character testing? Why, by following these simple steps:

→ Comment with the journal of a character you want to test; put their name and canon in the subject line for added sparkles.
→ Tag around with everyone!
→ Profit like you live on a the back of a turtle!
→ Maybe even RESERVE so you CAN live on the back of a turtle!

But wait, there's more! For the low, low price of $9,999.99, you can even use one of our handy prompts when you tag someone. You could even pick one with a Random Number Generator to help decide which prompt to go with!
  1. Haggling Over Something in the Marketplace!
Maybe someone else saw the exact same shiny thing you did at the exact same moment! However shall this be resolved? Remember: blood is extremely hard to scrub off of turtle shell!

  2. Dramatic Chase Sequence!
You're running away from something! It could be anything, from a rampaging kirin to a gaggle of overly enthusiastic children! One way or another, you can't stop, and much like a katamari ball, you feel obligated to grab everyone in your path along the way to keep them out of danger! Or perhaps you're more the sort to try and knock them into it as a distraction...?

  3. Where There's A Will, There's A...?
The Life and Dreaming Planes have been merged, and sometimes what starts out as wishful thinking becomes lured into reality. That slick new motorcycle or pile of kingly treasure you were just daydreaming about? Surprise! It's just appeared in front of you. Though, it may only stay for a short while before it disappears again, so make it count. Hopefully you're not the type to daydream about terrible things befalling people you don't like...

  4. SECRET UNDERCOVER MODE ACTIVATE!
The three major kedan families all have their own agendas, and you've chosen to entangle yourselves with one (or more!) of them. Are you hoping to shift the balance of power? Gain some favours? Perhaps you're on a mission to bring a criminal to justice, or maybe you just want to get the cream of the crop from the black market. Maybe you haven't been hired by them at all, but are using their name for your own goals... as long as no one discovers the lie!

  5. Wait... you want my what now?!
The kedan are a curious folk, and the Foreigners are entertainment in conveniently arriving packages, especially when they come along with unique items that the kedan might not have seen before. Maybe it's your cellphone... or maybe it's your knickers! How badly do you want to keep your stuff from some overeager native shapeshifters who want to buy, bribe, or burglarize it right off your person?

  6. Sea prunes, get your sea prunes right here!
Life in Keeliai can take a little getting used to: the chickens have scales, the cows have feathers, and the fruits come in more colour and pattern combinations than your average tye-dye shirt. Not to mention that meal you just ordered from the food vendor? Has arrived on the plate, and you're pretty sure you just saw it move.

  7. Everybody needs a little darkness...
The Great Enemy may have been defeated over two years ago, and people are even willing to speak Malicant's name aloud now, but there remains a taint in the city never fully purged. Those who consider Malicant a dark god whose end was unjust are the cultists of Keeliai, and they aren't always so easy to identify as one might think. Sometimes their presence is felt in the growing urge to give into one's darker instincts, especially in such a foreign place...

  8. Illicit substances, anyone?
Every city has its vices, and Keeliai is no different. Perhaps you actively sought it out, or perhaps an opportunistic dealer saw you as a potential customer needing a free sample, but you're now in possession of a packet of Lucid, an emotion-enhancing drug. Interested in finding out what happens when you crush that colourful crystal and ingest it?

  9. Incoming!
Tu Vishan's latest landfall stop has brought an unwelcome problem to its residents: enormous, toothy creatures who look more like pterosaurs than most people are comfortable with! With a twenty-foot wingspan, these aren't exactly harmless local wildlife, and they have a nasty habit of swooping down on targets both Foreigner and kedan! How are you going to fend them off, or help someone who might have been injured by the latest dive bombing??

  10. WILDCARD!
Go nuts. Suddenly your character is fighting dragons! Good God, they've found the Millennium Falcon drifting in the ocean! Do you really feel the need to polish every paving stone in the Earth Sector? Anything goes!

"I would have hated to see it go to waste simply because I found myself unable to eat it." And if it could go to someone who could use the food more than herself, then she didn't consider it a waste of money.

"Hardly but it doesn't mean I cannot spare a few today," she said with a smile as she looked at Bisi.

Inara was surprised to see someone approach her and it was clear he was nervous. It didn't seem to be an act but she wouldn't laugh at him even if she thought it was rather cute.

She gave him time to speak when he was ready, only looking over at him as they walked. When he blurted out his warning, she smiled gratefully. She was able to pick out the gist of what he was saying as she gave a nod.

"I am aware. They have been following me just after I arrived in the market," she said with a soft laugh. "But, thank you for telling me. You have my appreciation."

"It seems some things never change." The same kind of food could be found at pretty much every major space port.

"We have not been introduced yet though, have we?" Inara had a feeling he was rather interesting. He had some familiar traits which reminded her of someone else. Dashing, charming, and with a sense of reckless adventure.

There seemed to be no getting away from some things even in another world.

Lately no one got Kevas' name unless he felt like giving it. He liked to keep a low profile until he got his plans rolling, and since he currently had no plans beyond learning about this strange new place, keeping a low profile was his utmost goal for now.

"Maybe I just really like my knittin'." Except he didn't know a thing about knitting. No reason to give anymore straight answers about himself than he already had.

"Can't say I be knowin' too much about da mons here myself," Kevas went on with a shrug. "Ain't been here to long neither."

"Oh..." Well so much for helping her. Now Zachariah felt a little silly suddenly blurting things at her like that. He lowered his gaze and began scratching the back of his neck.

"Do you want any help then?" Maybe Zachariah could talk to her stalker and get them to leave. That was a very optimistic thought on his end though. Talking to her was hard enough for him. Getting a pickpocket to leave someone alone was likely well beyond him.

But where talking failed Zachariah felt confident he could knock some sense into them. He just really wanted to avoid violence.

Bisi smiled. Such attitudes were rare where she was from. This woman reminded Bisi of the Lotus.

"You're unable to eat?"

"It appeared out of nowhere," said Fenris. He hadn't relaxed the grip on his sword, but he also hadn't taken a threatening step toward her yet. "Right before you did. If you truly aren't a demon, what are you doing here? I thought only demons populated the Fade."

He knew only demons populated the Fade. If she wasn't a demon, then she was a trapped mage, and that was hardly any better.

Then again, no matter what she was, it didn't explain the throngs of people surrounding them. Nor did it explain how tangible and real everything felt.

A healer. That should have helped, but it didn't. Apparently, even healers weren't above turning themselves into abominations.

"Yes," Fenris says, his tone a little harder. "It attracts demons. Anyone who uses it is at risk of possession, but everyone believes themselves above temptation - especially those who keep slaves to fuel their blood rituals."

It's a lot to accept, he realises, for someone to whom magic has never had a relationship with demons. Perhaps he's being too harsh. The standards for that have changed drastically enough that Fenris is sure he could spend a lifetime trying to reclaim his footing. "I imagine your world is different," he says quietly. "You're fortunate, if so."
handonheart: (chaotic evil)

[personal profile] handonheart 2016-01-26 11:24 pm (UTC)(link)
With a little consideration, Fenris agreed. No one believed Thedas was the extent of the world, but few people returned from trying to chart beyond Thedas's borders. It was possible he and Isabela had ended up somewhere completely different, but Fenris couldn't for the life of him imagine how. Not even magic could help cross vast distances in the blink of an eye.

It didn't explain the magically-appearing Tevinter wine, either.

"Who else is here?" he asked. If something malicious and powerful was at work, he found it hard to believe Hawke hadn't been dragged right into the middle of it, and Isabela sounded like she'd been in this strange place long enough to put more pieces together than Fenris had.
handonheart: (I enjoy these talks)

[personal profile] handonheart 2016-01-26 11:48 pm (UTC)(link)
[I give you plenty of credit, Fenris wants to say. Especially where your creativity is concerned.

As much as he would love to be stranded in an unfamiliar city with anyone other than Anders, however, he can't pretend the familiarity isn't welcome. Nor can he pretend it's within his ability to fix whatever went wrong and get back to Kirkwall on his own. He needs a mage's help, and he'd prefer one he knows over the remote possibility he'll find another - and another might turn out to be worse. Beggars, unfortunately, can't be choosers.]

If you've found time to play with cats, I take it you know where we are.

[Alright, he can't be completely civil.]

Can you get us back?

"Anders. That's another thing that puzzles me."

She thought for a moment. "Do you remember Anders doing anything... let's call it noteworthy in Kirkwall?"

"I believe we will be alright. It's merely a curious child hoping to get to know someone who is foreign," Inara assured him as she offered her arm for him to take so he could walk with her.

"Accompany around the market? Perhaps having an escort will discourage any followers," she suggested kindly. She didn't want to send him into a confrontation with anyone who most likely didn't mean any harm. She could fight her own battles anyway.

[personal profile] zhengmian 2016-01-27 12:26 am (UTC)(link)
"Only at the moment. I admit I wasn't hungry enough to take a chance as much as I thought I was," Inara said with a soft, kind laugh.

"May I know your name?" she asked as she approached, bending down slightly so they were more at eye level. "I am Inara, it's a pleasure to meet you."

"I assure you, sir," Valdis said, arching a brow, "I did not appear out of nowhere, and I am most certainly not a demon."

In fact, she was somewhat offended that he would suggest such a thing. This Fade thing though, it sounded similar to the Dreaming if things randomly appeared there, minus the demons. She gestured to the bottles with one hand, keeping her body language neutral.

"May I?"

If she looked at his face she might almost see the smoke about to pour from Zachariah's ears when she offered her to him. He knew he was supposed to do the gentlemanly thing and take it, but it had been nearly a decade since another human being even shook his hand. The sheer anxiety nearly made him start running for the hills.

"S-sure, I mean, if...if you want. Not uh, not real sure I'm great company though."

But he did it. With the most nervous of smiles Zachariah took her arm. His face felt like it was about to burst into flames at any moment.

Demons and blood rituals. That explains his relative wariness for magic, if such things are commonplace. Raine doesn't look outright horrified, but she presses her lips together, and her eyes drop for a moment. "Yes," she says. It sounds, as she goes on, like she's lecturing. "My world is different. Our magic comes from the manipulation of mana, the energy that every living thing and every part of the world itself carries. Those with some measure of elven blood can sense it, and manipulate it, and thereby use a variety of artes. There are risks associated with magic, certainly, but none so drastic as possession; mostly, those which exist are created by people simply being people. Overuse, or discrimination, or destruction."

She sighs, considering that this is likely more than Fenris wanted or needed to know. "I've found little worse than that which people can do to each other, when they believe they are justified," she concludes. That, apparently, goes for both his world and hers-- slaves for blood rituals. Honestly. That's on par with exspheres.

"Is possession very common, then, in your world?"

The named stopped him cold although none of it was let show on his face. The cigarette in his mouth was drawn from, jets of smoke leaving his mouth in a rush.

"John Zatara's girl?"

There wasn't any doubt of it in John's mind and where this conversation could go next. Warn her that when she was older never to take home some member of a punk band? Don't fall for any pretty words he might tell her? No. None of that would be said now, not when he knew how things would go, had to go. At least for his version of her that was now his past.

"I ask because I met a stage magician named that once. You have his look."
hellboundheart: (drink to end the day)

[personal profile] hellboundheart 2016-01-27 08:43 am (UTC)(link)
Should she care to, John's soul was still the property of Hell. He'd damned an innocent to Hell and that was unforgivable. Yet sigils and wards wove within that, trying to change it from second to second. Nothing about John Constantine was ever clear. Where was the fun in that?

While some men might have been taken in by her manner, by her beauty, John was not. Not yet anyway. He'd bedded a succubus and sometimes it was hard to compare. In his experience, a pretty face often meant a deadly creature behind it.

"Queen of dogs, eh?"

So he hadn't been too off with the bitch comment, but he wasn't about to bring that back up. It wasn't out of fear but more that he saw no reason to poke that hound with a pointed stick any further.

"John Constantine. Can't claim I have some fancy title. Just me."
hellboundheart: (no respect for the crown)

[personal profile] hellboundheart 2016-01-27 08:55 am (UTC)(link)
"I would have guessed more Adh-Sidhe than Sidhe. Those royal folk usually have their heads so far up their arses that they don't know anything other than their own problems."

The faerie folk weren't ones John often liked to muck about with. They had been called the 'Peri' from the word 'peril' for a reason. His nose wrinkled at the word 'incubus', a low chuff of laughter that softened it following.

"Don't be putting the incubus or succubus down, mate. Got a few good friends among them that sometimes remember to send me cards on the hols."

John gave Erskine a smile, not a kind one but a smile all the same. His dark eyes remained cool and studying, looking for that oh so subtle in that might let him pry up the armor on a weak spot to attack later if needed. Humans would have registered all the charm and none of the world weary danger Constantine could represent. Everyone loved the man who regularly brought the drinks, didn't they? Or convinced the pub owners that the drinks were paid for.

"A sorcerer. That man, Shudder, have you on his payroll or bound?"

A dangerous question maybe. But it was better than answering the question on angels, wasn't it?

He's impressed. He's impressed and he doesn't even try to hide it. If he's honest, Jay expected her to back down but there she is, keeping pace with him. The girl earns a side-ward look, his amusement clear as he does so.

"Now that is some chewy, gooey, weird whatever the fuck that was, right there!" Jay exclaims, triumphantly and takes another bite. Through a thankfully smaller mouthful, he continues. "Interesting is an understatement."

[personal profile] jayotic 2016-01-27 09:15 am (UTC)(link)
Having someone else step in wasn't something Jay expected to happen. Grip still firm but certainly not damaging, his eyes flicker from the young kedan to Zachariah. "That's right, kiddo. Now I don't want to fight you or anything, but it's two on one by the look of it."

Riah and Jay vs the world. Jay grins a little broader and looks back to the kid. "Now I'm gonna count to three." His free hand raises, fingers set to mark the count down.

"One... Two..." Before Jay can get any further, the youth starts to struggle and Jay lets him go enough for the kedan to wriggle free. The boy runs, and Jay lets him. The glasses however, fall to the ground with a thud. If they're broken, Jay might have a few more things to say about the situation.

Even after the kedan fled Zachariah's body felt keyed up and ready for a fight. He sucked in a deep breath, pushing the sudden feeling of adrenaline back down. Simply and innocent as the confrontation was, it drove his anxiety through the roof. Being in the crowded market didn't help things either.

"At least nobody got hurt," Zachariah said, his voice barely louder than a mumble. He stooped to recover the glasses then frowned. A long crack ran through the right lens after hitting the ground.

"Um...I think it cracked. Sorry," he continued as he offered up the glasses to Jay. He even felt guilty for the split in the lens.

She, too, momentarily froze, although her expression was slightly more obvious: brows raised, eyes wide, and lips notably parted mid-word in surprise.

John Zatara's girl.

The first thought her mind allowed itself. John. Not Giovanni.

"I...haven't heard anyone call him that in a long time. Call me that." Not since...well, it was certainly rare enough that she had to think back. Quite possibly since she was very young. Even the Justice League generally referred to him as either Giovanni or Zatara. Never John. "You know my dad?"

That was the other thing, although it may or may not have been more noteworthy on his part. Know. Present tense. In her time, the famous magician was still alive. Something which, thanks to her years spent meeting people--most notably one Bruce Wayne--from alternate universes...she knew might not always be the case.

Though being compared to a dog was almost as insulting as being compared to a demon, she kept the edge from her voice.

"Dogs," she replied, arching a brow, "Are pets who rely on humans. Hounds are self sufficient."

She didn't expect most people to distinguish between the two, but nonetheless, there were many differences between pet dogs and Hellhounds. For instance, most pet dogs couldn't kill you by tearing out your soul.

"It's a pleasure, Sir Constantine," she continued, putting on a smile, "How are you liking Keeliai? I trust the Hotel is meeting your needs?"
